connors, it's 5:00 on this saturday, thanks for being with us. let's begin with that weather and meteorologist krystal klei, she's got a look at our inaction 10 first alert neighborhood forecast. >> good morning, everyone. this is what we're expecting this weekend, first off, still hot conditions. it's august, so this isn't a surprise, but there is some relief in sight. not for your saturday or your sunday, either. in fact, sunday it will be more humid as we are looking at potential for late day thunderstorms into the evening as well. so saturday looking a little dryer out there than your sunday. then here is the good news, once those storms move out as we move into that extendedxx forecast t temperatures start to drop as does the humidity. that's when things are going to start to feel more comfortable as we move into your next workweek. right now here are your temperatures this morning, 74 in philadelphia, 70 in parts of the pennsylvania suburbs, also seeing some of those upper mid 60s parts of new jersey into the
lehigh valley, delaware at 70 right now. clear skies for the most part so today is going to be a fairly nice day. if you want to get outdoors you just have to remember to be safe in the heat because those temperatures in the afternoon will be making their way into the 90s in some areas, philadelphia right at 90 for your forecast high temperature, upper 80s parts of the suburbs, new jersey as well as in the lehigh valley, delaware most consistent in those upper 80s, right around 88 to 89 degrees. notice our forecast for today includes partly sunny to mostly sunny conditions, can't rule out an isolated storm but it's not looking likely. that potential much better as we move into tomorrow. the forecast for your sunday, late day into the evening, we will talk more about that cold front, how it affects us with these storm potentials coming up in a few minutes. >> thanks, crystal. now to that breaking news, a man is fighting for his life this morning after police tell us he was stabbed inside a restaurant in the philadelphia's
neighborhood. monique, tell us what happened here. >> reporter: we've been here for just over a half hour and i can tell you that police have now cleared the scene, detectives have left. they've gone to the hospital to try to assess the situation. this is what i've been told by investigators on the scene, they say they were called to the blue mart neon following reports of a stabbing. they say they were able to go inside, to process the scene, interview witnesses and they are still not sure what caused the argument that proceeded the stabbing. i asked the investigators if they were able to find some sort of instrument or weapon and they say they are not sure what the victim was stabbed with, but they do know that according to one investigator, and i'm quoting that person, it does not look good. now, when we arrived we found people outside sweeping down the
sidewalk, clearing the scene, but we are not getting too much closer because there is still blood on the sidewalk and we've been told that the firefighters are on their way to completely clean the front of the scene. i did approach the owner of bleu mart knee and he told me that he had no comment at this time but once again the victim is fighting for his life in a local hospital. we will stay on top of this story and provide any updates that we get as soon as possible. live for now in old city, monique braxton, nbc 10 news. >> thanks for that, monique. more breaking newsing this time out of the lehigh valley. one person is dead and another seriously hurt in a crash that flipped a pickup truck on route 22. a fire official tells us two cars were involved in the crash just before midnight on airport road in hanover township. one victim was thrown from the pickup and trapped under the vehicle. state police have been detouring traffic around this scene so
keep that in mind. in philadelphia a woman was hit and killed by a car in west kensington overnight. it happened around 2:00 this morning at nasher street and lehigh avenue. the driver took off after the accident but police say they caught up with him. they are now investigating the crash as a possible dui. golden perfection, the world's fastest man, usain bolt, finished his olympic career with another gold medal. the win gave him the triple-triple, a perfect nine for nine in his races over three olympics. it was all about the relays last night, the u.s. women's team took gold in their 4x100 relay. the american men fell short but they are challenging the results, the u.s. men will come home without a medal after they were disqualified for passing the baton too early in their race, the team has filed an
appe appeal, we will find out more about that later this morning. the women's team faced a similar problem this week but their fortunes turned golden last night. english gardner gave the team the big lead leading to the victory. the women defended their olympic title with the second fastest time ever for this event. now to the alleged robbery involving u.s. olympic swimmer relief in sight a ryan lochte and three of his teammates. the incident has sparked an international controversy. mill gel almaguer reports from rio. >> reporter: ryan lochte breaking days of silence saying on instagram i want to apologize for my behavior last weekend, for not being more careful and candid in how i described the events of that early morning, his apology coming after police released security footage proving they say lochte and three other american swimmers were not victims of a robbery
but instead are vandals, damaging the gas station after a night of drinking. after facing an angry crowd in rio gunnar bentz and jack conger arrived back in the u.s., brazilian authorities clearing them to go home pause they never lied to officials. according to partial transcripts of their own sworn statements obtained by nbc news, conger said they had been drinking vodka and champagne before they stopped at a gas station where ryan pulled off a sign from the wall. conger admitted he and lochte urinated on the plants. bentz said the story ryan told the american press was different from what really happened. >> they could have avoided all this problem. what they need to do is tell the truth. i got drunk, i broke a few things and i got involved in the confusion. big deal. >> reporter: as for jimmy feigen, the fourth swimmer who police say fabricated parts of his story, he revised his
original statement thursday after agreeing to pay nearly $11,000 in restitution to a brazilian charity, his lawyer says his case is resolved. lochte could also face a fine, but will likely pay a much higher cost with his endorsement deal. >> a review committee has been set up to look at the actions the swimmers did while they were here in rio, they could face anything from probation to being kicked off the team. >> that was nbc olympic correspondent miguel almaguer reporting from rio. coming up, the zika virus prompts a travel warning right here in the u.s., why one of the best known tourist spots in the country is in the cross hairs of the zika fight. donald trump's america is secure. talking about trump's new tv ad, his first message of the general election is now running in pennsylvania and other battle ground states. if you haven't seen it yet we will show it to you and we will have details ahead.
good morning. looking at your radar and satellite map to begin because we have got a nice clear start to your saturday here. so not a lot going on in parts of delaware, new jersey and into pennsylvania at this point. that's going to change as we move into your sunday, especially when we should see a line of storms, thunderstorm development possible as we move late day into the night, that's with the cold front passage that is expected to affect our temperatures. you can see those temperatures at the bottom of your screen with that seven-day forecast for your neighborhood. philadelphia 8:00 a.m. clear conditions, about the mid 70s out there, we bump up into those mid 80s by your lunch hour. we should cap right around 90 degrees today. in the suburbs 58 a.m., 72, not a bad start, still going to feel a little higher humidity, not as bad as it's been in this past week, though. we do see those temperatures
again mid 80s by the afternoon as well. lehigh valley pretty similar, 70 at 8:00 a.m., by 4:00, 86 degrees. new jersey and delaware can't rule out an isolated shower, it's not looking likely. 86 at noon in delaware, mid 80s for new jersey in the afternoon. and then a little lower on your temperature along the jersey shore, so very nice day to head out to some of those shore locations. 8:00 a.m., 77 degrees, by noon, 82, clouds sun mix out there and still into those lower 80s as that temperature starts to drop off around 4:00 p.m. we're also going to stay mostly dry today with the potential for more storms tomorrow. that's something we will talk more detail about coming up in just a few minutes. >> thanks, crystal. switching young people from guns to games that's the goal of the peace games at gerard college. wayne ellington lost his father to gun violence in 2014.

the cdc is now warning pregnant women to avoid south beach, florida, over concerns about the zika virus. five cases of zika have been connected to mosquitos in the area. containing zika in south beach will be difficult as high-rise buildings and strong winds make it hard to spray the insecticide that kills the insects. in our area in montgomery county researchers are looking for volunteers as they work to find a screen for the zika virus. the study would be conducted this winter. would you volunteer? most folks we spoke to yesterday told us they would not be willing to have zika injected
into their body, even if it leads to a vaccine. >> i would prefer not to be a guinea pig. >> i don't think i would be willing to do that. that doesn't sound like something i would be interested in. >> i don't want the virus, i don't want to take that risk. yñinovio pharmaceut looking for who people to take part in the trial. you can apply online. also yesterday we talked to a local doctor about what you can do in the meantime to prevent zika until a vaccine is developed. >> these type of mosquitos tend to bite more during the day. longer clothes and i know that's hard when it's warm out, but use deet, you can use oil, lemon eucalyptus. >> the doctor also reminds homeowners to remove all standing water from their
kwlaryards. that is a breeding site for mosquitos. now to our decision 2016 coverage. republican presidential nominee donald trump is coming off a very busy friday. he was in louisiana during blood damage, he was in michigan urging african-american voters to vote for him. all of that came while trump's first tv ad of the general election started airing in battle ground states like pennsylvania. >> donald trump's america is secure. terrorists and dangerous criminals kept out. the borders secure. our family safe. change that makes america safe again. >> the ad focuses on immigration and national security drawing trump's contrasting views with hillary clinton. >> trump's friday began with a resignation, paul manafort announced he was stepping down as campaign chairman. manafort has come under fire in recent days for his previous work with pro russian politicians in ukraine. trump did visit louisiana, his
visit to the flood ravaged state includes several stops in and around baton rouge. his running mate mike pence joined him for the tour. the gop ticket visited homes, schools, and an emergency response command center all damaged by flood waters. hillary clinton called louisiana's governor to talk about relief efforts. in a facebook post the democratic nominee said her heart breaks for louisiana. clinton is urging people to reach out to the american red cross to help with that flood relief. president obama plans to visit baton rouge on tuesday. right now he's vacationing on martha's vineyard. the white house says the president is eager to get a firsthand look at the impact of the floods and to learn more about how the federal government can help the victims. a delaware county animal shelter is stepping up to help pets stranded without a home after the flooding in louisiana. nbc 10 was at the providence
animal shelter in media as a van arrived from baton rouge. the shelter raised money for the transport and is now taking in more than 30 dogs and cats. >> these disasters pets aren't allowed in the shelters that are housing people and the shelters down there that are already housing the homeless animals they got flooded. >> the next step in all of this is to get the pets veterinary care and help them get adopted to new permanent homes. >> kindergarten registration in philadelphia starts on monday. yeah, the summer is just about done. and the school district is pushing parents to take advantage of it. the district is hoping to avoid chaos when those five year olds head to class next month that's because thousands of kindergartners show up every year without being registered ahead of time. that causes headaches for school staff and families. >> you're going to spend a lot of time waiting, producing documents, not having a classroom already assigned for
your child. >> what advice would you have to other parents? >> just look around and, again, do your research. >> parents registering their children at elementary school need to bring id, your child's birth certificate, the child's record of vaccinations and two forms of proof of address. the first day of school is september 14th. let's begin by taking a look at your neighborhoods. right now those temperatures outside not bad, 74 degrees where we sit in philadelphia, 65 lehigh valley, lower there, as well as parts of the pennsylvania suburbs, 63. 75 in delaware and 73 the jersey shore, low 70s as we move inland through south jersey. temperatures to kick off your morning not too rough. drop down into the philadelphia neighborhoods here, park side at 68 and west mt. airy at 71 degrees. a little higher pens port at 76,
fox chase at 72 and bustleton at 71 degrees. again, these temperatures will be hot as we get into the afternoon. so we are not going to be hanging on to 70s and low 80s. that comes in a few more days, though. along the jersey shore some of the neighborhood temperatures also mostly low 70s. we have 73 ocean city and 71 at the cape may courthouse, a little higher, 76 at cape may port and dennis township 71 degrees. these temperatures on the shore a little lower, not talking upper 80s into 90s but we will still see them move into the low to mid 80s by this afternoon. what we see is that we are clear and dry for the most part to kick off your morning and through saturday a lot of us will remain on the dry side. it might still be a bit muggy out there, the humidity a little higher, not as bad as it's been in the past week, though. we're getting slight relief, that ups again on your sunday, dew points right back into those
70s which is when we know things are getting sticky outside. radar and satellite the wide view shows us why we will see the humidity increasing. we have a cold front that will bring us storm activity. right now well to our west but that will be heading our direction and as it does so that's when we start to see the chasb)tjt showers and thunderstorms in our own forecast. here is the feels like temperature for you as we go into the afternoon yellow the temperature red is the feels like temperature. expecting we should peak in philadelphia with the high around 90 and that peak feels like should get to about 94 degrees meaning it will still feel uncomfortable in the peak of your afternoon. severe thunderstorm risk not looking very likely for us. very low isolated potential today, that will increase as we go your sunday. but for today your neighborhood forecast, 90 in center city and 88 in somerton, lands detail 89 degrees, upper 80s for feels
