officers arrest a son and authorities charge him with killing his parents. the couple was found dead in their home in west deptford. we will tell you about the next mo of in this investigation. it will be pretty busy at the jersey shore this weekend as we head into the final few weekends of the summer season. we will have a look at what's going on. and the weather, it's pretty perfect for a summer shore weekend. this, though, is a look at boathouse row in philadelphia. it will be hot and summer -- and sunny today, but there will be less humidity.
good morning and welcome to nbc 10 news today, i'm lauren mayk. it's 5:30 on this saturday morning. let's get right to meteorologist krystal klei with our nbc 10 first alert neighborhood weather. >> those temperatures not bad as we kick off our saturday morning chlgt 74 in philadelphia, we have upper 60s as well right now in parts of the pennsylvania suburbs it's 69 degrees, 70 new jersey and mid 60s in the lehigh valley and 69 that temperature to kick off in delaware. you see we have got dark live cameras, the sun not up yet but once it is up it's not going to stop. we are looking at a sunny day through today, through your sunday as well. if you want to check out how much sunshine we have going on your seven-day forecast at the bottom of your screen for your neighborhood. 91 in philadelphia this afternoon the forecast high temperature, yesterday we saw the lower 90s. in the suburbs 89 degrees, just barely under that and actually
very consistent here around 90 new jersey, 89 lehigh valley as well as delaware. seeing temperatures all similar across the map meaning you can't really escape the heat unless you go to the shore where high temperatures should sit more close to the low mid 80s. radar and satellite shows us no clouds, no rain to track to kick off your saturday morning. that will be the same throughout the rest of your day as well and as we move forward that chance of rain doesn't move in until about mid next workweek. we will get to that in a bit. right now here is a look at good news for us. this is your 24 hour dew point change. higher dew points means more moisture, means it's more humid. yesterday compared to today all in the negatives meaning we are seeing a change, a drop in your dew point, a drop in the moisture. that means it's not going to be as humid outside. so while it will still be hot it's not going to feel quite as sticky. that may make a return, though. we will talk more about higher humidity, chances of storm in the forecast, all of that coming up in just a bit. let's take a look at this
weekend, another nice weekend ahead. the jersey shore is looking to do a brisk business as the summer season winds down. the boardwalk was already busy last night. >> it's a great atmosphere. a lot of people, family, kids, there's rides, we did the rides. >> vendors and visitors in atlantic city are thankful for the start of another sunny weekend. when it gets too hot people can just head for the water. many shore lifeguards are back at school so beach patrol says you may see some changes in the next couple of weeks. >> as we get tighter obviously we will increase some restrictions. >> as the atlantic city lifeguards packed up for the night our crews saw more people headed into the water. a patrolman on an atv tried to warn them of the danger, especially with a high rip current risk this weekend. autopsies are scheduled today for a gloucester county couple found murdered inside their home allegedly by their own son. a relative discovered the bodies of edward and rosemarie coles of
west department forward. police arrested ryan coles who the relative said was also in the home. nbc 10 was there as investigators collected evidence. authorities charged ryan with the death of his parents. he was taken to a hospital for evaluation before going to jail. investigators are working to find a motive in this case. this evening a candlelight vigil will be held for t two-year-old jamile: prosecutors say tracochie shoved his girlfriend after an argument over groceries then attacked the toddler. a woman is charged with first degree murder in the death of a delaware state university student. a neighbor in the community of bear showed us photos of police arresting cheryl jennings on wednesday. they say the morning of july 9th
she fired into the car of 19-year-old malcolm evans. the aspiring doctor was on his way to work. police say there is no known association between evans and jennings. his family spoke about what it's been like these past few weeks without an arrest. >> wondering who and why someone would commit such an unspeakable crime against such an amazing young man. >> police are still investigating so they are not releasing a possible motive in this case right now. a first degree furd charge does imply that this was not random, that police believe jennings intended to shoot the victim. police in montgomery county want your help. the man was wearing a phillies hat and black ban dan nguyen he held up the pnc bank yesterday. faculty at pennsylvania's 14
state universities could hit the pickett line in a few weeks, the faculty members will vote whether or not to strike beginning on september 7th. the impact would trickle down to all 14 universities including cookstown and west chester university. the union working without a contract for 14 months says the state isn't negotiating fairly. the state system of higher education blames contract delays on financial strains. classes begin on monday. a.m. tracks said a nearly $2.5 billion loan will allow them to boost seating on the northeast corridor by 40%. vice president joe biden announced the loan in wilmington yesterday and talked about how the money will be used. >> this is not just to improve the train sets, you have to improve the train stations, you have to improve the safety mechanisms, you have to improve the track, you have to improve the whole array of things that are necessary to make it work. >> vice president biden was a frequent amtrak required during
his more than 30 years in the u.s. senate commuting daily between his wilmington home and washington, d.c. a passenger thanks two officers for saving his life during the rush hour commute. he met with his heroes yesterday after they came to his rescue at 30th street station. the accept at that officers found the unresponsive man on a market frankfurt line train thursday afternoon, the officers performed cpr until the man regained his pulse. he was treated and released from a hospital. it's not clear what caused him to have a am he had cal emergency. a new driver's license center is open in norristown promising faster better service. the new high tech driver's license center had its grand opening yesterday. the center promises to focus on customer service through new innovation, state officials say long lines and waits will become a thing of the past. growing fears of the zika

weekend is here, we are looking at a forecast today that certainly allows for you to get outdoors, you have to remember to stay hydrated, use the sunscreen. i know you are used to this, but it is going to be hot again today. 74 where we're starting out this morning in philadelphia, 76 your temperature 8:00 a.m., as we move along we move into the lower 80s then the upper 80s by your lunch hour. 87 degrees. doesn't stop there as we move into the afternoon your forecast high temperature peaks in the low 90s about 4:00 p.m., 90 that temperature. winds only around 5 to 10 miles
per hour throughout today. a little more breezy and you get to the shore, 76 the temperature for your day, 75 at 8:00 a.m. then we are at 80 by 10:00 a.m. don't see a lot of warming after that. as you get into your afternoon about 82 right on through 2:00. temperature drops off by 4:00 p.m. you see there. if you look at your fave-day forecast for philadelphia and the shore you see that the shore is where the relief is at. 91 saturday, just 83 saturday in the shore. then you see the same situation on your sunday. upper 80s for us in philadelphia to lower 90s monday, tuesday, wednesday. we do warm up a bit along the shore, mid 80s by the early part of your next workweek there with mostly sunny conditions aside from wednesday. we will talk a little more about your wednesday looking at that possibility of showers and the details as we move on to that ten day forecast for you in philadelphia. all of that's coming up in just a bit. today philadelphia firefighters and paramedics will
help get kids ready for the new school year. they will hand out more than 100 backpacks to elementary school students at johan boxing school. bernard hoskins is expected to help give out those school supplies. the philadelphia black mcdonald's operators association will host a backpack give away today. younger students can receive a backpack at seven area mcdonald's restaurants beginning at noon. today upper class men will move into their dorm rooms at rowan university in glass borrow. from 8:00 to 6:00 this evening the students will unpack and get to know their classmates. it's also move in day for returning student at west chester university. fall classes there begin on monday morning. the newest saibt joe students are settling in on hawk hill, their move in started yesterday and continues today. it's a lot of work. more than 1250 freshmen make up the class of 2020. they head to class for the first time on monday. ahead in sports this morning

it's quarter to 6:00 on this saturday morning. a new wildfire is threatening homes in central california. the so-called range fire has burned more than 550 acres so far. officials are recommending homeowners evacuate the area. there are no reports of any injuries. in tennessee people are remembering a police officer who died in the line of duty. hundreds gathered for a candlelight vigil in honor of officer kenny motes. he was responding to a domestic disturbance on thursday when a man shot him. now to more of our decision 2016 coverage. a former aide for governor chris

"meet the press." it comes your way tomorrow morning at 10:30 right here on nbc 10. there are new developments in the fight against zika. the fda wants all american blood banks to begin screening for the virus. testing is already under way in puerto rico and parts of florida where there have been zika outbreaks. officials say the move will ensure safe blood is available for all americans needing a transfusion. this comes as the cdc has announced the first case of a person without any zika symptoms unknowingly transmitting the virus to a sexual partner in the u.s. whirlpool is recalling 15,000 microwaves because they could catch fire. the company says the microwave hood combinations were sold between january of 2014 and april of this year. it's received five reports of the fires. if you own one of these microwaves, stop using it, unplug it and then contact whirlpool for a repair. back to school shopping is in full swing here in our area
and across the country. according to the national retail federation the average family plans to spend $673 this year, more than 200 bucks will be used for clothing, new shoes and in many case new uniforms. the kids like getting those new outfits but many say they aren't quite ready to head back to school. >> i want summer to last forever. >> it's been stressful, i guess. i don't really want to go back. >> the retail report also says 46% of parents said they plan to shop online this year. that's up from last school year. and this weekend you can shop for a cause at macy's. the annual charity event started yesterday and runs through tomorrow. customers get 25% off most purchases with a $5 donation to the march of dimes. more than seven decades after his death in world war ii is u.s. marine will get the
burial honors he earned in battle. private first class george trafr was killed in the south pacific in 1943. yesterday his remains were returned home. they were recovered in a mass grave and brought home by the group history flight. a police motorcade escorted the coffin. his funeral will be held tomorrow. this woman in texas is a link to history. she recently found letters from a soldier killed in world war ii in an old shed. it took her a week to track down the soldier's family with only a handful of nieces and nephews still alive. the letters and photos and keepsakes were priceless artifacts, rich in history. >> it shows freedom and hope and love and family. >> thank you so much for finding me. >> the soldier's nephew says he will get together with the cousins to go through all of his uncle's items. we will start off by taking
a look at those temperatures along the jersey shore this morning. some temperatures in low mid 70s. cape may courthouse 71 degrees, cape may point at 74 for the current temperature. upper township 75 degrees, ocean city 74 and you see for the most part those numbers similar along the shore, mid upper 70s. farther inland you move into the upper 60s for those current temperatures this morning. we shift over to parts of the delaware neighborhoods, dover at 68, same for middletown and we are looking at mostly upper 60s as we move through delaware. so a little bit lower in parts of delaware this morning, although we do see a few low 70s as well to kick off your morning. not tracking rain, not as humid, either. clouds well to our west, rain way off to our west. in our area we are looking at those clear conditions meaning that today it's going to be a sunny forecast for us to mostly sun kree, maybe a few spot clouds into the afternoon but overall should not be affecting
us. and that continues as we move through the next few days. saturday, today, we are at 91 degrees, 89 on your sunday in philadelphia and 92 monday. pretty consistent numbers there. for the suburbs same deal, although we are looking at the upper 80s to the lower 90s by monday, notice no chance of rain in this forecast. calling for very isolated shower possible near parts of the suburbs to the lehigh valley monday but that's an isolated potential. upper 80s, saturday, sunday, 87 in the lehigh valley. new jersey 90 your saturday, 89 your sunday, the shore obviously a little lower here, though. saturday at 83, sunday at 81 and then 86 for that temperature as we move into your monday. there is the bump up op your monday, that's also when we will start to see humidity bump up a bit more as well. in delaware 89 your saturday, sunday is low 90s by your monday. looking now at your tropical satellite view, so this isq#4 radar this is satellite view, this helps us look at clouds and
where the systems are moving. we have been talk being some tropical systems that may develop into tropical storms or even hurricanes. not looking super likely at this point. right now what we are tracking is that system that is to the southeast of florida, the low pressure center you see there, this system is actually still very disorganized, it's weakened a tad over the last couple of days. still has the potential, though, to move along and strengthen as it moves over the gulf. we also are still looking at that disturbance that's well off to the east of the coast and that also not looking like it's very organized at this point. these are some possible paths for that system that may clip parts of florida, it could strengthen over the gulf but if you notice right now models all over the place on this and it is very disorganized meaning at this point it's not a huge threat but nonetheless it's still going to bring rain and thunderstorms to those areas. we are still talking about keeping an eye on it for the storms it will pull in. looking at those low to mid 90s
