tarmac when rumors spread about an active shooter. it started when some travelers heard loud noises and thought it was gunfire. they are investigating the source of the noise. flight operations were delayed. they were resumed after about 30 minutes as passengers had to be rescreened. a similar scene at jfk in new york, police rushed to the terminals after there were reports of shots fired. loved ones and neighbors are grieving for a toddler that was hit and killed by a car in west philadelphia. >> the little boy was visiting his grandmother on merion avenue last night. the child was on the sidewalk when he darted in between two parked cars andç out into open traffic. a woman driving her white chevy trailblazer apparently was unable to see the boy and to stop in time. the cousin told us the neighborhood has had problems with heavy traffic and kids playing close to the street.

>> there's a sign right there. it says drive careful, philly speed limit. there's a lot of children on the block. that don't mean nothing. a lot of people are flying up this block all the time. we have kids out here. it's dangerous. >> there is no indication that the driver was speeding. police said she's cooperating with the investigation of what they are calling an accident. it's 4:32 and 73 degrees outside. also in philadelphia, three people are recovering from a car accident in port richmond that may have involved street racing. the car went off the road near cumberland and richmond streets yesterday. two kids, 11 and 15 woodhaven road passengers. investigators said the other car involved did not stop. we spoke to a neighbor who told us this kind of thing happens all too often. >> we go fishing here all the time. that's a problem. a lot of racing here. cars have to stop this. really, really got to stop this. >> police officers are checking out the driver for possible

street racing and dui. no charges in the case. an off-duty trenton police officer shot and kill a man at a party saturday night. >> witnesses said he got into a dispute at the party in trenton and shot his own brother in the hand during a scuffle. authorities said that's when the off-duty officer grabbed the gun away, took out his own weapon and shot. a friend told us it didn't have to happen. >> mind frame. i'm going to aid my brother. you have a gun at the back of my brother's head. i have to stop that. i have to. >> his friends are demanding a full investigation. police have not identified the officer and they haven't commented on his job status. happening today, congressman and health experts will take questions from citizens concerning their drinking water contamination in montgomery county. congressman brendan boyle, pat meehan and michael fitzpatrick will co-host a panel discussion

at hatboro horsham high school. officials are testing the water from homes and wells in the area. a casino job fair that starts today at claridge hotel. tioga downs is doing the hiring. they are looking to fill a variety of full and part-time positions with experienced personnel. police in rehoboth beach are responding after social media went crazy over the arrest of a mom who left her kids home alone to go on a dinner run. she was arrested earlier this month when she left her children at their vacation rental to go pick up dinner. she was gone about 45 minutes. a witness called them after seeing a 9-year-old and 8-year-old running into the street after their dog. rehoboth pd offered up this response. the officers of the rehoboth beach police department wear the badge with pride as a symbol of justice with emphasis on moral and ethical decisionmaking. this case was no different.

there's no minimum age for legally leaving children home alone. the state says it will investigate reports of children 12 and under who are left alone. students at a local college are planning to pack their bags next year and head to rio in a ç history-making trip. take a look. this is video of the moment when from freshmen at cedar crest college in allentown found out they would be going to rio next fall. very excited. an estimated 150 of the 180 students from the freshman class will go to study and serve there. this is the school's first class that will goes so a group on the eight-day sophomore trip. the eagles regular season roster is shaping up with the deadline for final cuts coming up on sunday. >> right now it looks like jordan matthews, nelson agholor, josh huff, dorial green-beckham will be the receivers. they cut rueben randle and chris

the weekend which means it will be another hot afternoon. this morning, 70s to start with, into the 80s later this morning and near 90 degrees at 2:00 this afternoon. but the good news is, we'll see a little bit of northwesterly wind. dry air that will keep the humidity in check this day, kind of like what we had this weekend, too. 70 degrees in the suburbs. 78 at 10:00. then it's into the 80s this afternoon. the humidity dropping later today. it's going to make for a more comfortable day tomorrow. the lehigh valley, plenty of sunshine as well. 70 now. once the sun is up, it will be a quick warmup to near 80 degrees later this morning and into the 80s this afternoon. sunshine will be nice and bright, new jersey closer to the 90 degree mark for most of interior nj nng. 80 degrees at 10:00. those same northwesterly winds light enough to keep the humidity in check for new jersey. at the shore, 23450 the low 80s this afternoon. after starting in the 60s and heading into the 70s, by lunch time, 82 degrees and then it hangs in the low 80s.

florence at 70 degrees this morning. a quick warmup with lots of sunshine and humidity that will make it feel hotter this afternoon. the philadelphia area, 1:00, 88 degrees. near 90 degrees by midafternoon with the higher humidity, it will feel like 94. similar humidity conditions that we saw yesterday. but there's a nice change on the way. already seeing a forecast of northwesterly winds for today. that's dry air that's going to bring the humidity levels down, heading into tomorrow. for today, we could really use some rain coming down. not going to happen. scattered cloud at best, the next chance of widespread showers will come from this little bit of activity that's moving into the dakotas. that is a cold front that's going to arrive here on thursday. that will be our next chance of some serious showers in the area. but for today, mostly sunny. 91 degrees this afternoon. another day into the 90s today. and close to 90 tomorrow afternoon. tuesday, partly so mostly sunny skies. high of 89 after a cooler
