this morning. showers not in store for us today. 73 degrees at 7:00. by 10:00, 82 degrees and it will be into the low 90s this afternoon. with the humidity coming down later today. so not quite as muggy as it was yesterday. 91 degrees in philadelphia. the suburbs, 90 and 90 in interior new jersey. while at the shore, mostly sunny skies and 86 degrees. upper 80s for the lehigh valley. delaware, 91 degrees this afternoon. i'll go through the forecasts hour by hour to show you how quickly it will warm up today when i'm back in just a couple minutes. first, let's see how the traffic is going. jessica boyington with your first alert traffic. >> thanks, bill. still watching the boulevard. one of our bigger stories of the morning. everything else seems to be moving along nicely. around ridge avenue there are water main repairs. two lanes lost, right-hand shoulder lost as well. one lane is getting by. that's headed southbound towards the schuylkill expressway area. that's where we typically see more problems and delays as well on the boulevard but later on in the morning. the next hour, hour and a half
when we start to see things pile up. other than that, one lane getting by. we still start to see these delays. northbound lanes not affected right now. just the southbound side again right around ridge avenue. so looking in for some construction from new jersey into delaware. over the delaware memorial bridge. the left lane is closed north and southbound. both directions are affected by that. there's an accident just reported out in abington, moreland road and easton road. >> philadelphia police are searching for whoever shot three teenagers overnight. >> they were shot in grays ferry. nbc 10's monique braxton is live at children's hospital of philadelphia where one of these teens was taken. monique, what are police telling you? >> i can tell you that all three teens are in stable condition this morning. and one 16-year-old shot in his lower back is recovering here at c.h.o.p. now, ourç cameras were at the scene shortly after the shooting with south detectives and officers from the 17th district, combing offer the scene here at
27th and tasker. it happened just after midnight. the three victims, ages 16 and 17 were shot in the leg or back. police took the 16 and 17-year-old shot in the leg over to presbyterian. we've also learned at least 12 shots were fired from semiautomatic weapons, either by two groups of people or two individuals. police don't know yet if the teens were the intended targets but police do cite the curfew. there's an 11 p.m. curfew for 16 and 17-year-olds. >> they were all under the age of 18. they should not have been out this late. shooting happened right after midnight. they should have been home, curfew. we don't have a motive for the shooting at this time. >> three parked cars were also hit by bullets. police have no clear description of the gunmen. they are reviewing private surveillance the city's realtime crime cameras in the area. we've also learned that even
though they believe semiautomatic weapons were used, there were no weapons recovered at the scene. in the next half hour, we're working to bring you details about the fine, the teenagers, as well as their parents face, because of the break in the curfew or violation of the curfew ordinance. live for now outside c.h.o.p., monique braxton, nbc 10 news. 5:33 and 73 degrees outside. loved ones and neighbors are grieving for a toddler who was hit and killed by a car in west philadelphia. >> the little boy was visiting his grandmother on meron avenue last night. he was just shy of 2 years old. his cousin said the child was on the sidewalk when he darted in between two parked cars and ran out into open traffic. a woman driving her white chevy trailblazer apparently was unable to see the boy and stop in time. the cousin told us the neighborhood has had problems with heavy traffic and kids playing close to the street. >> there's a sign right there that says drive careful, philly
speed limit. and there's a lot of churn on the block. that don't mean nothing. we get people flying up this block all the time. we have kids out here. it's dangerous. >> there is no indication the driver was speeding. police said she is cooperating with the investigation of what they're calling an accident. also in philadelphia, three people are recovering from a car accident in port richmond that may have involved street racing. the car went off the road near cumberland and richmond yesterday. police say two kids, 11 and 15 were passengers. investigators said another car involved at the scene did not stop. we spoke to a neighbor that said this kind of thing happens all too often. >> there's kids out here. we go fishing auhere all the ti. >> they are checking out the driver for possible street racing and dui. so far, no charges in the case. in mercer county, prosecutors say an off-duty trenton police officer shot and killed a man at a party on saturday night.
>> alfred toe died in a police-involved shooting. witnesses said he got into a dispute at a party in trenton and shot his own brother in the hand during a scuffle. that's when the off-duty officer grabbed the gun away, took out his own weapon and shot toe. a friend told us it didn't have to happen. >> mind frame. i'm going to aid my brother. i have to get you off my brother. you have a gun at the back of my brother's head. i have to stop that. i have to. >> toe's friends are demanding a full investigation. police have not identified the officer and they haven't commented on his job status. happening today, congressman and health experts will take questions from citizens concerned with their drinking water contamination in montgomery county. congressman brandon boyle, pat meehan and michael fitzpatrick will co-host a panel discussion at hatboro horsham high school. the concern is over chemicals that leaked into the water supply from the old naval air base nearby. officials are testing water from homes and wells in the area.
5:35 on this monday morning. a casino job fair starts today at the claridge hotel in atlantic city. the event runs today and tomorrow from 10:00 to 5:00. tioga downs in binghamton, new york is doing the hiring. they are looking to fill full and part-time positions with experienced personnel. police in rehoboth beach are responding after social media went crazy over the arrest of a mom who left her kids home alone to go on a dinner run. she was arrested earlier this month when she left her children at their vacation rental to go pick up dinner. she was gone about 45 minutes. a witness called them after seeing a 9-year-old boy and an 8-year-old girl running into the street after their dog. rehoboth pd offered up this response. the officers of the rehoboth beach police department wear the badge with pride as a symbol of justice with emphasis on moral and ethical decisionmaking. this case was no different. there's no minimum age for legally leaving children home alone in delaware.
the state says it will investigate reports of children 12 and under who are left alone. the eagles regular season roster is shaping up. and the deadline for making final cuts is coming up. it is this sunday. >> right now it looks like jordan matthews, nelsoning alore, josh huff, dorial green-beckham and paul turner will be the receivers on the final 53 man roster. rueben randle and chris gibbons were cut yesterday. sam bradford was impressive in saturday night's preseason win over the colts. he completed 85% of his passes and led four scoring drives. >> to execute the way we did, it was nice. i was really happy with the communication up front at the line of scrimmage. i thought our tempo in and out of the huddle was really good again, getting to the line quickly. overall, i thought the execution was great. it's obviously something we can build on moving forward. >> bradford and the birds are a perfect 3-0 in preseason.

with. philadelphia on the other hand is at 73 degrees. we should be in the 60s this time of year. a bit warm to start with and it's going to be another warm afternoon instead of lower 80s which is typical for the end of august. up to 90 degrees this afternoon. there's an important change, though. we will see northwesterly winds, though, not strong, just enough to bring the humidity down today. it won't be as high as it was yesterday. 68 degrees right now in the suburbs. 79 degrees at 10:00. then it's in the 80s starting at noontime today. into the lehigh valley, you'll see plenty of sunshine here, too. 84 degrees at lunch time. near 90 degrees this afternoon. it will feel like it's into the low 90s, just barely. that same northwesterly wind will bring the humidity down in the lehigh valley as well. for new jersey, plenty of sunshine. just a few scattered clouds this afternoon. an isolated shower is possible in interior new jersey. i think it will be hard to find. most areas stay dry today. 85 degrees at lunch time, by
2:00 this afternoon, near 90 degrees in new jersey. while at the shore, there are the 60s to start with, into the low 80s by 10:00 and low 80s is where it will stay as we go through the afternoon. those light northwesterly winds will bring the humidity down later today in delaware. 70 degrees to start with, still a bit muggy feeling at 10:00. by noontime will be in the middle 80s, upper 80s at 2:00 this afternoon. that's when we'll start to get the drier air coming into play. more comfortable weather ahead as well as wet weather, too. i'll take a look at both of those with the 10 day on 10 when i'm back in just a few minutes. 20 minutes before 6:00 right now. let's check your ride to work. we've been watching that problem on the roosevelt boulevard for a while now. >> traffic reporter jessica boyington is keeping an eye on that. how's it looking now? >> we are starting to see more cars headed out the door because it's later on in our morning commute. more delays behind the scene of a water mann repair headed southbound on the boulevard around ridge avenue. you can see only one lane
getting by. this may cause a problem later on. right now, the right lane blocked. the next lane over and the right-hand shoulder. it's not affecting the traffic on the northbound side. with construction crews in the area, we'll see delays later on if it stays out there. abington, watch for an accident reported in moreland road around easton road. no major delays but you'll be detoured through the scene. thorndale 1512 running a little late. other than that, everything else on time. and reaching out for the african-american vote. ahead, phone out where donald trump will be making his latest hit for that support.
a new jersey transit officer is being hailed as a hero this morning. >> check out this video just released yesterday. officer victor ortiz pulled a man out of the path of a speeding train near a junction friday morning. you can see him struggling with the man and pulled the man away seconds before the train enters the frame. officer ortiz is a 16-year member of the transit police.
officials say his actions are a reminder of the daily sacrifice from members of the force every time they put on their uniform. it's quarter to 6:00. mexican super star, songwriter and singer juan gabriel died yesterday. ♪ he was known for his love ba ballads. he was 66. donald trump will visit detroit on saturday to reach out to african-american voters. the republican presidential nominee plans to speak at a predominantly black church in the heart of that city. democrats and others have criticized trump for asking for african-american in front of mostly white audiences. cf1 o where donald trump stands on
immigration. last night he tweeted that he will speak about it wednesday in arizona. the head of the republican national committee, yesterday on "meet the press," outlined what he thinks trump will say. >> you won't have a pathway to citizenship with donald trump. that's off the table. there's no method by which someone is here illegally that will become a citizen and jump the line as hillary clinton wants to do. >> last week trump said that he could soften his stance on immigration, unto then he promised to deport an estimated 11 million people living in the u.s. illegally. yesterday, donald trump hosted a debate preparation meeting at his home in north jersey. sources said former fox news chairman roger ailes, former new york mayor rudy giuliani and new jersey governor chris christie were all there. the first presidential debate is schedule for september 26th. later in the day, governor christie was in northeast philadelphia for the city's gop annual clam bake. the governor urged people to boost voter turnout in november,
saying it could make a difference for the party candidates. hillary clinton's running mate will focus on pennsylvania for two days this week. tim kaine is scheduled for erie and lancaster tomorrow. on wednesday, he'll head to the lehigh valley. he'll attend an organizing event at the community center in bethlehem. colin kaepernick is speaking for the first time since his controversial decision to sit during the national anthem. he's defending his right not to stand during the anthem. people across the country are outraged. one fan even burned his jersey. kaepernick said he'll stay seated until he feels injustices in the united states have been corrected. >> i'm going to continue to stand with the people being oppressed. to me, this is something that has to change. when there's significant change and i feel that flag represents what it's supposed to represent and this country is representing people the way it's supposed to, i'll stand.
>> kaepernick's coach said his decision to sit during the anthem is, quote, his right as a citizen. now your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> 12 minutes before 6:00. the view from here at the nbc 10 studios, a few thin clouds. mainly in the clear. no sign of any showers. clear skies overnight has allowed the temperatures to drop into the 70s. clear skies during the day means another hazy, hot day today. the temperatures climbing into the low 90s in philadelphia. but the humidity will be coming down. you'll feel it later on. less humid this evening with mostly clear skies. the temperatures will be a bit lower than they were yesterday evening as well. right now, 70s and some 60s, south jersey is at 67 degrees. in philadelphia, 73 degrees. 69 in mt. laurel. 63 degrees at coilfield, 70 right now in florence and 70 degrees in robinsville. a warm start during the day and a hot afternoon.
but we're going to get a northwesterly wind. that's the beginning of a more comfortable air mass coming in, dry air flowing in, which will bring down the humidity lower today. you'll feel the difference, especially this afternoon. at noontime, 66% humidity. the temperatures back into the low 90s this afternoon. that number will be lower than it was yesterday and that drier air will be in place tomorrow morning. we could use some rain. doesn't look like we'll see any chance of rain until the end of the week. it's this system right in here that's producing showers and storms in min m s is in minneso scattered light showers in the dakotas. this has a ways to go. by the end of the week, come thursday, that's our best chance of seeing wet weather. for today, hot one. 91 degrees this afternoon. partly so mostly sunny skies. humidity dropping later today. that will make for a more comfortable and cooler tuesday. high of 88 degrees tuesday afternoon. upper 80s for wednesday and here come the showers and thunderstorms for thursday. at least a chance of showers and thunderstorms for most of the
area. high of 87 degrees on thursday and that's a cold front that's going to bring us that shower possibility and behind that cold front, cooler, drier, more comfortable air. and you'll really freel it friday and this weekend. some beautiful weather ahead. 83 degrees on saturday, a little bit warmer but low humidity again on sunday with a high of 85. a bit warmer into the workweek. 90 degrees tuesday and wednesday with plenty of sunshine into the end of the week. ladies? >> thanks, bill. it is ten minutes till 6:00. let's get a check on traffic and the roads. jessica has been keeping an eye on the roosevelt boulevard. >> the water main repair. jessica, do you have an update? >> big update. this is a delay shot approach the scene right now. the boulevard around fox street is backed up all the way past here, past wissahickon as well because of a water main repair happening around ridge avenue and on the southbound side. all of this traffic right here, one lane is getting by at the scene. by that scene right now, we are seeing major, major delays.
