afternoon. there's a chance of late-day showers and thunderstorms. i'll show you when those are most likely to pop up. jessica boyington with your first alert traffic update. >> something major happening on the roads. we're starting things off on 95 around naamans road. two overturned vehicles involved in the southbound side. all lanes are not blocked which is definitely a good start to the morning. if you look over here once in a while, you'll see a car move through the area. one of the overturned vehicles into the center median. we have emergency crew on the scene there trying to get this under control. all the cars back on their feet and the northbound side is not having any problems or gaper delay because of this. again, this is 95 headed southbound around naamans road. moving towards delaware. if you're heading into the delaware area, you might see a problem or delay. all lanes are not closed. only the left lane is blocked.
>> thank you, jessica. 4:30. still summer. temperatures head into the 90s today. >> because of the dangerous heat, all philadelphia public and catholic schools will dismiss students at noon today, same is true for reading middle school students and students in camden and trenton. nbc 10's matt delucia is live outside ben franklin high school with more information on this. matt? >> it's already hot and humid. it's 4:30 in the morning. it was hot yesterday, too. especially in the afternoon. philadelphia schools stayed open anyway. district leaders made the decision to close schools early later on today at noon, before the temperatures go up into the 90s once again. students yesterday they left the classrooms a little warmer than they probably wanted to be. it was only day two of the school year for philadelphia. kids are still getting used to schedules and assignments only to deal with this heat on top of all that. some schools and classrooms have air conditioning while others, plenty of others do not. for that, there are fans blowing
on high speed but that only goes so far. we talked with some parents who complained to us wondering why the philly school district did not take this action to dismiss early yesterday and you have some parents who now have to change their plans to get their kids home early. somen are the happy about that. better to be safe than sweating. >> kids can't sit in classrooms when it's 85 in the classroom or 90 in the classroom. >> they'll be so happy, just the fact they don't have to carry those big book bags in some of the hotter rooms and walk up and down the flights of stairs. they'll be thrilled. >> reporter: especially in these multilevel school buildings, a lot of stairs to climb. in addition to the early dismissal at noon, all afterschoafte afterschool programs and sports are cancelled in the philadelphia district. the archdiocese and catholic schools will also be closing early today. a developing story we're
following. the search is on for whoever shot three people overnight in north philadelphia. >> three menç were riding bicycles when they were hit by bullets. nbc 10's deanna durante is live outside temple hospital where they are being treated. what can you tell us? >> it appears that all three victims were shot from behind. one man, a 44-year-old was shot in the back. police say they found him laying near 5th and erie. the other two shooting victims apparently were able to get away and go to a northbound home and call for police. all of this happened around 1:30 this morning, near 5th and erie. police say now they are looking to see if there is surveillance video in the area. all three vicks were alert and talking to investigate ares and they reported hearing shots from behind. each victim was shot once. again, they appear that that shooting happened from behind them. at this point, there are no suspects and no motives for the shooting. >> we know all three victims were on bicycles, riding their bikes south on 5th street when
the shots rang out and all three victims were struck one time. we know that the 17 and 18-year-old were together and are friends. when they got shot. the 44-year-old who was in close proximity to the teenagers who was also driving his bicycle south on 5th street was not with the teenagers. >> reporter: again, fwno motivation for the shootings at this point. investigators have identified a number of surveillance cameras in the area. they are in the process of trying to figure all of that out. if you saw anything or know anything about the shooting, philadelphia police want to hear from you. reporting live in north philadelphia, deanna durante, nbc 10 news. meanwhile, sentencing is scheduled for a key figure in former congressman chaka fattah's corruption case. thomas lindenfeld testified that he took out an illegal $1 million loan. to fund fattah's 2017 campaign
for mayor. in june, a jury convicted fattah in the federal racketeering case that centered on that loan. fattah faces sentencing in october. a lancaster county mother is charged with homicide in the death of her 2-month-old baby. jessica harper placed the infant in her bed to sleep and the baby woke up not breathing. the infant died in july at harper's fulton township home. a doctor warned her not to have the baby sleep in bed with her. she said she would do it anyway. police say this is the second baby death involving harper. she served jail time after a 2-month-old baby of hers died in 2011 from suffocation. a delaware county police officer shot on the job seven times earlier this summer is going back to work today. 25-year-old folcroft police officer chris dorman was shot in the neck, in the face and shoulder back in june. dorman's bulletproof vest stopped four bullets which officials say ultimately saved his life. the alleged shooter, donti
brooks island is charged with attempted murder. he's being held on $1 million bail. now to an nbc 10 exclusive. hundreds of stolen cemetery items have been recovered in atlantic county. police want to know who they belong to. hundreds of decorative railings and grave stone posts and more were stolen from cemeteries in mullica township, pleasantville and galloway township. a detective spotted the items outside a house owned by an antique dealer. he bought them from a man and a woman. police want to know if you had something taken from a loved ones grave. >> if they can recognize it, tell us where it belongs,ç whe it goes, we'd love to hear from you so we could put it back. >> investigators aren't yet naming the suspects but they say they are from galloway township and were likely stealing to feed drug adecks. today in washington, the house of representatives will hold a ceremony to mark the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

traffic. now we're watching 95 around naamans road. just around the area where pa and delaware run into each other. we're just about that point where we're seeing some pretty big delays. it looks like we may have all lanes blocked off on the southbound side where this accident scene is. involved in this accident scene right now. you can see emergency crew there on the scene, looks leak a few ambulances. looks like the overturned vehicles are here and they're also tieing things up partially on the northbound side as well. there's a left lane blocked over there. you can see one vehicle or so at a time moving through on the northbound side. and the southbound side for right now, maybe looks like a few cars at a time might be crawling by. all lanes are blocked as they have to get these vehicles back on their feet and all traffic back moving again. we'll have updates for you on 95 around naamans road when i come back. now your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> 20 minutes before 5:00. a live view looking from camden,
new jersey across the bow of the battleship "new jersey." we have seen a few showers move through this area just moments ago. those are light showers, less impressive than they were just about an hour ago. they were coming from the west, moving to the southeast at about 20 miles an hour. they're falling apart as they move into new jersey. there's a chance you'll see a few sprinkles this morning. there's still a possibility of a downpour at one point this afternoon. a thunderstorm is possible. most of the day, as you can see, we're not going to get rain. a few showers this morning right now. 81 degrees with partly sunny skies at 8:00. by noontime, 90 degrees. with the heat and humidity building this afternoon, we could see a pop-up shower or thunderstorm. during the late afternoon, low 90s for philadelphia. i'm expecting the temperature to peak just above the record of 94 degrees today. the suburbs will see sunshine, too, and there is a chance of some showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. but this morning, you'll be
drying out after the few sprinkles first thing. 79 now. 87 degrees at lnch time and into the upper 80s in between those showers to reach into the 90s today. for the lehigh valley, sunshine, a few clouds and a shower or two is possible but it also looks likely we're going into the 90s this afternoon. the high humidity in new jersey you'll feel it, less likely we'll see any afternoon showers once the few showers this morning and that should be it. then it's heat this afternoon. 92 degrees, will feel like it's closer to 100 degrees in new jersey. the jersey shore will see temperatures climb quickly topping out near 90 degrees this afternoon. 83 at 10:00. high humidity as we go into the afternoon hours. for delaware, may see a shower or thunderstorm later today. most of the day, just some steam heat. look at when the heat wave will break when i'm back in ten minutes. >> thank you. 4:42. closing the gap. >> new political polls show donald trump is chipping away at hillary clinton's lead in key

meantime, questions are coming up about what happened at a recent briefing with intelligence officials and donald trump's advisers. others who attended that meeting say there was tension between retired general michael flynn, unof trump's advisers and the officials who conducted the briefing. they tell nbc news that flynn repeatedly interrupted the briefers until new jersey governor chris christie who was there intervened. both christie and flynn denied that version of the events. we have an update now to a story we brought you yesterday. that's when we showed you this surveill'nce video from augu you see someone walking away with a menorah in a philadelphia somerton neighborhood. now look at the new surveillance video taken around 3:30 yesterday morning. a man returns the menorah. rabbi solomon isaackson called nbc 10 to tell us about it. >> he came early this morning at 6:00 in the morning to services and we found our menorah had been return. we're overjoyed and happy.
i'd like to thank the media, especially channel 10 who brought this out and without whose help this would not have been accomplished. >> rabbi isaackson says except for two broken bulbs on the menorah is fully intact and working. he says he holds no ill will to the person who took it. let's get you an update on a situation on 95, naamans road. >> this is headed towards delaware. >> we're seeing lane restrictions in both directions. heading into delaware or out of delaware you'll see a big problem either way. you can look on this side, there's a few cars moving through every once in a while. another overturned vehicle over here. it looks like a lot of people out for this accident scene. over here we have emergency vehicles as well. one lane trickling by on that side as well. north and southbound on 95 both see something delays in either direction because of this accident involving two overturned vehicles. especially with a lot of emergency personnel not on scene. not quite sure of injuries. as soon as that information
becomes available to us, we might be able to gauge a time when it will clear out of the way. a lot of time when there's major injuries on the scene, there's an accident investigation as well. that takes longer than normal with sensitive information. one lane trickling by in the north and southbound side. keep watching for the vine street expressway. we're closed this morning with construction in both directions. east and westbound on broad street and the schuylkill expressway. now your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> 11 minutes before 5:00. heading out right now. tracking a few scattered light showers. the mugginess you feel will be with us all day. the showers will be departing, at least to start with. record-breaking heat for philadelphia. the record has been on the books a long time since 1884. it's 94 degrees. we very well may tie that and possibly break that this afternoon. then tonight, later today, some isolated thunderstorms are a possibility. right now, 82 degrees with light showers in philadelphia.
low 80s for the lehigh valley. delaware near 80 degrees along with south jersey. heating up into the middle 90s this afternoon. right now, 79 degrees in west mount airy. northeast philadelphia, both airports in the low 80s to start with. the temperatures are indeed warmer this morning. the 80s are running up to 15 degrees warmer. mount holly is up by 15. 11 degrees warmer in atlantic city and warmer for wilmington, allentown, coatesville and philadelphia. the temperatures that are in the 80s right now are not going to last once that sun's up. the showers moving through right now won't last very long. there's more activity in western and central pennsylvania. that's a possibility as we go into this afternoon. the hour-by-hour forecast shows it will be pretty quiet at 1:30 this afternoon. later on, we'll watch for showers and possibly thunderstorms. that's 4:00 this afternoon, just moving towards the lehigh valley at that hour. by 5:30, allentown into berks
county, upper montgomery and bucks county could see some of the showers and thunderstorms. there's a possibility we have some of the storms again tomorrow arç the heat and humidity continue for saturday. look at those 90s. but the heat wave breaks for sunday. it's not just cooler weather coming in. it's much less humid air that will blow in on some nice breezes that will make all the difference. we have to get through today and tomorrow. since tomorrow is extreme heat, a beautiful day on sunday and even a bit cooler for monday. by tuesday, we're warming up, still pleasant tuesday afternoon. upper 80s wednesday. here comes another round of showers coming through the area that will clear out on thursday and finally we'll get a little bit of a fall preview for friday and saturday up to 76 degrees. next saturday, a chance of more much needed rainfall. >> all right, thank you, bill. nine minutes before 5:00 a.m. we're all aware of the five-second rule, drop a piece of food, pick it up and you can still eat it within five seconds an you're good.

night with an elementary school. the school didn't call the boy's parents to report he was absent that day. the parents of the 5-year-old say he's now traumatized and cries every time he sees a school bus. >> you would think school is the safest place to be and here i found out that they forgot about our little boy. >> you have traumatized a 5-year-old kindergartener. that could have been my son. >> the bus driver has been fired. school officials told parents they are installing new signs on buss to remind drivers to check their buses. new details this morning about the re-opening of the revel casino in atlantic city. developer glenn straub says the opening will be delayed by another six months over landscaping. straub went before the casino reinvestment authority yesterday to get final approval to re-open. he got the go-ahead on all the crucial items except landscaping plans. straub walked out of the
