we're following breaking news of an explosion near an new jersey transit station. blast happened while a bomb squad was trying to disarm the device. >> we're getting information about what this means for you if you travel to and from new york. >> this comes after an explosion over the weekend in new york city that left more than two dozen people hurt. this morning, five people are being questioned in that blast. >> nbc 10 breaking news. 6:00 a.m., 76 degrees outside. good morning. this is "nbc 10 news today." i'm tracy davidson. >> i'm pamela osborne. we'll get to those stories in just a moment. first, let's get your neighborhood forecast with meteorologist bill henley and bill, it's a little bit rainy out there. >> showers, thunderstorms, heavy downpours. in fact, the rain is still
coming down and is on the move. now moving into some of the suburbs, into chester county and montgomery county, coatesville, the heaviest rainfall is just to the north of coatesville. look at the heavy downpours m e moving through lionville and west vincent. the heavier cell is producing rainfall at almost 3. >>s an hour, an inch and a third for the coatesville area. those showers extending into bucks county as well. thunderstorms have settled down. lightning associated with it and heavier downpours as these showers move into northern kent county on the way to smyrna. occasional showers, thunderstorms, and temperatures in the 70s. 76 degrees right now in philadelphia. not much of a warmup today but where you're going to get much-needed rainfall for each of the areas. 75 this afternoon with some breaks of sunshine possible in the lehigh valley. rain and potential for heavy rain for delaware and into south jersey. a look at the forecast hour by
hour for these areas when i come back in a few minutes. first, jessica boyington has a busy morning on a monday. >> we're watching specifically for mass transit delays,ç majo mass transit delights this morning. new jersey transit northeast corridor and new jersey coastline service has -- was supposed to resume around the 5:30 morning or so. matt delucia is at the trenton train station right now watching the trenton board saying all still delayed or cancellations in place. so major delays there this morning. and amtrak also suspended around elizabeth station as well for the acela express and northeast regional service. earlier this morning they were cross-honoring tickets for path and new jersey transit buses as well. either way before you head out the door, especially heading up north, you'll see some of the delays. there's also an accident reported in limerick on north township line road and tangle
wood drive. i'll check in with more cameras when i'm back in the next ten minutes. what you're looking at there is brand new video of an explosion at new jersey transit in elizabeth, new jersey. a device exploded overnight as police were trying to disarm it and this morning, that investigation could impact your commute. >> nbc 10's matt delucia is live at the trenton station where trains are running but they're not going all the way north to new york. matt, take us through what happened. >> right. tracy and pam, we did just get new information from our nbc news sources in new york that tell us that the fbi is at an address in elizabeth, new jersey, not far from where that explosion happened near the train station. no word yet if that's connected at all. we'll talk to you about the travel issues that people have been experiencing here. the good news is we have been seeing more buses hear. you see some of the new jersey transit buses, service on the northeast corridor started
trickling back at around 5:30 for new jersey transit. police in elizabeth, that is where all of this is centered, this investigation, about an hour north of here. they found a backpack that was placed in a garbage can near the train station there. five explosive devices were in there. one was detonated when a police robot moved in. that happened around 8:30 and travel has been impacted ever since. people were stuck on amtrak and new jersey transit trains for several hours. i spoke with a woman here this morning who's been stuck for several hours. she said at one point there were more than 100 people waiting inside the station here. >> overwhelmed but i'm trying to keep myself happy and in good spirits. we're just out here laughing, so there will be no type of rioting and anger. we're keeping ourselves happen i, cracking jokes and stuff like that so we can stay happy with the situation. >> and fortunately she got out of here a little while ago.
we have seen quite a few buses. i just checked the departures and arrival board a few minutes ago. i do still see delays and cancellations up there. we have not seen a train head to new york as of yet. we have seen the river line going to and from camden but that's pretty much it. new jersey transit bus as jessica has been mentioning this morning, they are honoring rail tickets. that is an alternate means of transportation that you can use but new jersey transit, they are saying that if you are going to take that option, prepare for overcrowding and some delays. so beç alert and aware of thats you head out this morning. live in trenton, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. 6:05. another development. the fbi says a traffic stop on the verrazano bridge that happened last night is part of the investigation into the saturday night bombing in new york city. federal agents and new york police stopped a vehicle of interest on bridge last night.
>> investigators are questioning five people. no one has been charged with a crime. also, the city has heightened security in manhattan and at the airports, train stations and bus terminals as well. you're looking at video of the explosion in lower manhattan. more than two dozen people were hurt. the bomb squad found and removed a second device several blocks away. authorities said the same man was seen on surveillance video at both locations. also, old style flip phones were found with the devices. stay with nbc 10 news for continuing coverage of the investigation into these explosions on air and online with the nbc 10 app and nbc10.com. now to decision 2016. hillary clinton is making her way back to philadelphia today and her push for pennsylvania. nbc 10's monique braxton is live at temple university where clinton will try to convince millennials that she's the right person to be commander in chief. monique? >> that's right, tracy. the democrats are concerned about the outcome of recent
polls, especially in swing states like pennsylvania. and you socan see that the setu is taking place outside minton hall. today, secretary clinton will be here to court millennials. a national quinnipiac poll shows a slide in voters that are younger than 35. in august, clinton had 38% of that vote with a 24-point lead. now it's 31% with a 5-point lead over donald trump. president obama captured 60% of the under 30 vote in the national electorate. last week, the president urged young voters to support clinton when he was here in philadelphia. he was telling them, you don't tweet in your vote. clinton's campaign tells us she

right now. look at these downpours. this is the rain we have desperately needed and still going into the pocono mountains this morning. and there's more on the way from the south. that's a thunderstorm that's rolling into kent county and now southern new castle county in delaware. those storms are going to be on and off during the day and with those storms will come periods of heavy rainfall. that's what we're seeing in the hartley area right now, pushing towards smyrna at this hour. hour by hour forecast shows 9:00 this morning, look at the rain spreading through delaware, south jersey and into the suburbs. wilmington, philadelphia, trenton finally getting rain. still some showers in the lehigh valley. into the lunch time hour, that steadier rain is in new jersey and philadelphia. though it's starring to taper off in new castle county and a break in some of the suburbs. another line of showers moving through the lehigh valley. by late this afternoon, scattered showers still in the area. but the steadier, heavier rainfall more likely this morning. it's likely to keep our temperatures from going anywhere.
76 degrees right now. philadelphia, low 70s for the lehigh valley and the suburbs with the rain. and in south jersey, 73 degrees right now. not looking for a big warmup. it will be close to 80 degrees this afternoon. pemberton is 73 and 73 for lumberton and florence. a cool start and a dreary day but we finally get rainfall. 70s for philadelphia, the chance of showers continuing into the afternoon. occasional thunderstorms this morning in the suburbs. heavy downpours at times and late-day breaks of sunshine possible. for the lehigh valley, mostly cloudy skies, occasional showers and a chance of a few more thunderstorms. you'll be in for heavy downpours in delaware and into interior new jersey. even at the shore you'll get pretty good rainfall and a threat of thunderstorms right into the late afternoon hours. each of the areas will stay in the 70s today. there's warmer and drier weather ahead. i've got the 10 day on 10 when i come back in just a few minutes. all right, thank you.
as bill mentioned you may be battling rain on the roadway this morning as you head to work. nbc 10 first alert traffic reporter jessica boyington joining us live this morning. >> jessica is watching 202. what are you seeing there? >> we're watching roadways that are slippery and wet this morning. you can see reduced visibility, too, even with our camera. every once in a while you can look here and see rain move by the camera lens or at least trickle off the front of it. definitely you can see actually when cars move by, rain actually missing out fromç underneath t cars as well. roads are wet. that can create potentially dangerous and slow conditions this morning. give yourself extra time before you head out the door. that would be my suggestion to you, right before the beginning of rush hour begins as well. also, again, this is right around route 29. that drive time hasn't moved yet. seven minutes from 29 to the schuylkill. speeds into the 60s. there's an accident as well in northeast philadelphia at the boulevard. earlier we had two lanes blocked in the outer drive. all lanes are blocked.

this. the fbi is now going through a home in elizabeth, again, this is a live picture from the scene. heavily armed fbi agents are on the second floor of a building. now, this is near the train station in elizabeth where one of the explosive devices was detonated within a bomb squad was called after several devices were found. they tried to detonate the first one. that's when it went off overnight. because of that, amtrak's northeast corridor trains will run on a modified schedule. new jersey transit that were shut down overnight resumed early this morning slowly. new york city officials have tightened security after several devices were found or detonated around the region since saturday. we have live team coverage of this investigation and the impact on your commute ahead at 6:30. time now is 6:17 on your monday morning as we mentioned because of that breaking news, there are modifications to the traffic schedule there. there are also things we're watching here in our area.

the next ten. now your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> 18 minutes after 6:00. a dreary start. beef seen heavy downpours move through the lehigh valley. showers and thunderstorms this morning and clouds for cape may. the rain is on the way to cape may. so far it is dry. that's a temporary situation. the rain we so desperately needed is reallyç filling in ts morning. look at the heavier downpours. that line of showers, moving through allentown and into portions of the suburbs. those are heavy downpours with thunderstorms in kent county and delaware. they're on the move, moving at 20 miles an hour. it will bring it to collins beach at 6:35 this morning. showers, thunderstorms and all combined to give us impressive rain totals by noontime. more than half an inch in west chest chester. we could top an inch by 7:00 this evening and philadelphia. parts of new jersey, we'll see those amounts increase as we go into the late afternoon hours as well. a rainy day today, on and off showers and thunderstorms, 77

coatesville west, pikeland seeing heavy downpours. trooper right now, phoenixville getting some of the heavy rain. rainfall coming down at more than an inch an hour. those storms will be on the move. there could be localized flooding. the light rain started to move into philadelphia. see some scattered showers. as far as thunderstorms, those are dying down right now in delaware but still heavy downpours in the dover area and in towards smyrna, falling at a rate of an inch and a third an hour and farther to the south, more storms that will be moving in during the day today. stand by. it will be a dreary day today and heavy downpours are possible to keep temperatures in the 70s. 76 degrees right now in philadelphia. 77 degrees this afternoon. occasional showers and thunderstorms and periods of heavy rainfall for new jersey and delaware with middle 70s and it could see a late day break of sunshine in the lehigh valley. at the shore, occasional showers
and thunderstorms, 73 degrees this afternoon with periods of heavy rain. i'll go through the forecast hour by hour when i come back in just a few minutes. first, jessica boyington has your first alert traffic. >> bill, we are listening to rain even here in our studios here at nbc 10 over in bala cynwyd. i decided to look for a camera in our area. moving past our studio on the schuylkill expressway, city avenue, big delays, clearly wet roads. traffic moving slow for this morning. 20 minutes westbound from the vine street expressway to the blue route. pretty much looks the same going the opposite direction, eastbound by the scene with the heavy rain combination and morning rush hour volume. we're see something pretty big delays. also paying attention to mass transit, service has resumed for new jersey transit but still expect some pretty major delays there. through trenton and headed up to new york as well. also for amtrak, they're running on a modified schedule, seeing delays. still cross-honoring tickets for
private carriers, path and new jersey transit buses as well. tracy and pamela. 6:31. we're following breaking news of an explosion in elizabeth, new jersey near an new jersey transit station. this is the new piece right now, fbi agents are going through a home in elizabeth near that train station. here's a live picture from the scene. here's what we know. heavily armed fbi agents are on the second floor of this building. the first floor is a chicken restaurant. this is the third bombing investigation since saturday in new jersey and new york. nbc's katherine creag has more. >> we have police vehicles, emergency vehicles all around us, the sheriff passing by us right here. at one point we were actually quite close to all of those police vehicles over there. we have been pushed back a little bit. imagine, there was a backpack containing five pipe bombs and one of them went off when a police robot was taking a look at it. [ explosion ]
it was loud. it actually made police officers jump when they heard it. the elizabeth mayor says theç bomb squad robot was cutting into the device when it exploded. this happened just before 1:00 this the morning. two men digging through a garbage can through the front door of a popular bar right here near the nv transit station in elizabeth saw wires and pipes. we are told they left that back path and went immediately to a police station and the mayor talked about again what happen when the police robot was looking at the device. >> there were multiple devices inside that backpack. one of those devices was being cut in order to disarm it and as you all heard the explosion occurred. >> extremely concerned for the residents of the community but more importantly, extremely concern for every in the state and the country where somebody can just go and drop a backpack into a garbage can that has multiple explosives in it with no timers and then you have to wonder how many people could
have been hurt. >> again, a very loud explosion. the blast that happened just hours ago here, the second one in new jersey since saturday morning when a pipe bomb was found during a 5k run in sea side park. the fbi, you you the sheriff's department, city and state police all involved in this investigation. and those two men who found the backpack with five pipe bombs in it, they are sti being questioned but the police don't believe they are connected with what happened here. >> at 6:34, our live team coverage continues. >> nbc 10's matt delucia is live at the trenton train station where commuters heading to new york are trying to figure out how they're going to get there. matt? >> right. the good news is we haven't seen more buses but we haven't seen any trains heading to new york, even though new jersey transit said that service should start trickling back around 5:30 this morning. people were stuck here at the
train station for several hours. people were also stuck on amtrak and new jersey transit trains for several hours overnight. i just spoke with a woman here. she's been stuck for several hours. she said at one point there were more than 100 people waiting inside the station here in trenton. people were stuck on amtrak and new jersey trains, some even reversed course along tracks to drop passengers off at other stations to take other forms of transportation to get on buses, things of that sort, or to take taxis. as of right now, new jersey transit says they are operating on a normal weekday schedule. amtrak says that it is on a modified schedule. you do need to check before you go. take another live look here in trenton. you see some of the buss that are making their way to some of the northern destinations here in new jersey. you can hear from the horns, some tensions are still a little high around here. i did talk with one stranded traveler here this morning who said that cab drivers at one

being shot eight times during a weekend rampage. a gunman ambushed philadelphia police sergeant sylvia young in her patrol car friday night. she was one of six people shot in west philadelphia. also wounded in the rampage was university of pennsylvania officer eddie miller. he went home from the hospital yesterday, after a visit from some eagles players. but for the family of sara silah, there is heartbreak. she was killed when investigators say nicholas glenn shot her and her boyfriend as they sat in a car. >> we got somebody shot in the car. >> unbelievable. to lost her life like this. >> one of glenn's former friends told nbc 10 he saw warning signs saying the gunman told family members, quote, he was going crazy. a rambling note left behind showed a hatred for police. officers shot and killed glenn when he fired at police following the rampage.
now your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> 6:38. if you're heading out right now, we have rain moving into philadelphia. this is a view from camden. tracking showers and thunderstorms in the area. we could be in for more periods of heavy rainfall. we've already seen this for parts of the area this morning. scattered showers into the late afternoon and early evening hours will still be with us. for now, thunderstorms with heavy downpours and the suburbs. that line is slowly moving into philadelphia. the rainfall coming down at a rate of almost 3 inches an hour in delaware county. look at the heavy rain as it extends into lower montgomery and bucks countys. chester county still getting some of the heavy downpours, too, into the coatesville area. the heavy rainfall should taper off this afternoon. this morning, you have to deal with if you're hitting the roads in coatesville and downingtown. south jersey started off with light scattered showers. moderate showers in vineland. look at the heavy downpours moving into delaware.
those showers and thunderstorms coming in from the south, expecting them to linger into kent county, across the delaware bay and move into south jersey during the day today. we have wet weather. we need it, too. we'll see the showers on and off in philadelphia today. look what it does to the temperatures. 76 degrees right now. they're not going to budge as we go into the afternoon hours. the suburbs, 68 degrees. very low 70s with occasional showers and thunderstorms. might see a late day break of sunshine. and the lehigh valley has already had heavy downpours. more showers and a chance of some thunderstorms but during the afternoon, those clouds will start to thin out in the lehigh valley. for new jersey, wet weather is moving in. occasional showers and thunderstorms and periods of heavy rainfall possible. new jersey could pick up more than an inch of rain in parts of new jersey and at the shore as well. 75 degrees right now. the thunderstorm threat will extend into the afternoon at the shore. with temperat]rds in the 70s now, staying in the 70s for

it's quarter to 7:00. we continue to follow breaking news. a lot to cover. right now fbi agents are going through a home in elizabeth, north jersey. this is near the train station where the bombs were found. this is a live picture from the scene. heavily armed fbi agents are on the second floor of this building. the first floor is a chicken
restaurant. now, this is near where the train station, elizabeth train station, where several explosive devices were found. overnight one of them was detonated by police. because of that, amtrak's northeast corridor trains will run on a modified schedule today because of that device and other devices that were found, again, this is near the train station in elizabeth. new jersey transit trains were shut down overnight. they were scheduled to resume around 5:30 but our nbc 10 crew in trenton said they have not seen any trains there and officials have tightened security. this is the third bomb investigation since saturday. investigators are looking at an attack at a minnesota mall as a possible act of terrorism. a young somali man dressed as a private security guard went into the mall in st. cloud on saturday and allegedly stabbed nine people. the suspect mentioned allah and asked victims if they were
muslim before stabbing them. an off-duty police officer shot the man. the mayor described watching the surveillance video. >> as the suspect was lunging at him with the knife, not only did he fire, the suspect went down, he came back up on three different occasions. >> isis released a statement claiming that the attacker was a so-called soldier of isis. right now there's no evidence to verify that. all of the victims are expected to be okay. one vir's attempt to end her wireless data plan didn't stop the bills from coming. our nbc 10 responds and telemundo responds got to the bottom of this. >> reporter: sheç spends most her time at home on disability. >> that was a waste of money. i don't need internet.
they said if i want to cancel the internet i need to cancel everything. i said, okay. >> reporter: that day she paid $747 to buy out the ipad and end the monthly data plan. 30 days later she was charged $151 for another month's data and ipad plan. >> they sent me a bill. they continue sending me a bill and calling me. >> reporter: she she's she contacted t-mobile. an employee said she no longer had an account and couldn't help her. that's when she contacted nbc 10 responds. we got in touch with t-mobile. the company told us this would look into the matter. that same night, she says she received a phone call from a t-mobile rep who apologize and told her she had a zero balance. >> i'm so happy. >> reporter: good. give me a fist bump. in a statement, t-mobile told us the issue was resolved. out of respect for the customer's privacy they cannot provide further details. if you have a consumer

>> a rainy start, showers and thunderstorms racing into the area. look at this cloudy view from center city. rain drops on the lens there. you can see the rain drops falling in king of prussia and for bala cynwyd. this is here at the nbc 10 studios. that's a rainy scene. as far as king of prussia is concern, about the same. showers and heavy downpours moving through first thing this morning. more on the way. we haven't seen activity like this in a long time. we are getting heavy downpours, especially with thunderstorms moving through kent county. just clearing smyrna right now. they're on the move. expected in stow creek. you can see that by 7:30, 8:00 this morning. look at the rainfall rate. it's falling at a rate of almost 3 inches an hour. we cowl get a quick 1 to 2 inches out of these storms as they roll through the area. the radar shows the estimated radar shows the heaviest
rainfall has been in chester conte and into reading and allentown this morning. the lehigh valley will likely get more showers and thunderstorms and so will philadelphia. those showers and thunderstorms stay with us this afternoon. 70s for most of the area. could see breaks of sunshine first thing thisç morning befo more rain develops in new jersey. and the rainfall totals, widespread rainfall could see more than an inch of rain in philadelphia. look at west chester, about an inch and a third there. those lighter amounts, that may change later this afternoon and this evening as more rainfall is in store for south jersey. the 10 day on 10, looking stormy, 77 degrees this afternoon, occasional showers and thunderstorms. then it's into the 80s tomorrow. a lingering shower is possible tomorrow, especially in the morning in philadelphia or at the shore during the day. then we're drying out for wednesday which happens to be the last day of summer. 86 degrees, autumn arrives on thursday. you wouldn't know it by looking at the temperature. 86 degrees. the first full day of fall, 87
degrees, the high temperature. cooler weather arrives this weekend. 83 on saturday. then 70s for sunday and monday. another round of showers, a bit warmer on tuesday with showers moving through the area. that's a cold front that will cool things down next wednesday with partly sunny skies. >> all right, bill, thanks. nine minutes before 7:00. let's get you to work on this monday morning with a check of 95. >> nbc 10 first alert traffic reporter jessica boyington joining us now. looks like there's a little trouble there. >> right. a little trouble. we're seeing a lot of volume just because it's early in the morning and we're watching rain come down. a bunch of things happening, 95 southbound around cottman avenue. it looks like one, two, three vehicles are involved. also, there's backup behind there where vehicles are being stuck behind these cars and having to merge back into traffic like this guy over here. that's creating quite a dangerous situation. he's stopped here for a minute, some cars got stuck behind him.
now he left the scene. they're probably getting police there soon and hopefully to the correct side, the southbound side so we can have this traffic diverted around the area safely. we're seeing through the work zone, pretty big delays earlier. the drive time on 95 at this point from woodhaven road up towards center city, it's typically a 12-minute trip or so. last time i checked it was 27 or 28 minutes. adding 15 to your morning commute. i'll be back in five minutes. next, we'll run down this morning's headlines and the breaking news. weekend bombings hit new york and new jersey. we'll give you the latest on how a blast in north jersey is making it tough for commuters to get to work this morning. and decision 2016, hillary clinton makes her way back to philadelphia. today she's trying to get the millennials fired up.

lawsuits filed on behalf of the victims are targeting the developer and architect, contractors and the salvation army which ran a thrift shop out of the building. the construction contractor and excavator operator are both serving time in prison for manslaughter convictions. the other trial is bridgegate, opening statements are scheduled in the case. kelly and baroni are charged with conspiracy to create traffic jams in ft. lee. they say they closed traffic lanes to punish that city's mayor. the trial is expected to last six weeks. good morning, everyone. jessica boyington with a check on the messy roads this morning. barely can see this accident scene on 95 any more with the rain coming down. you can see the flashing lights. there is an accident scene over into the left-hand lane blocking that. we're at 39 minutes southbound from woodhaven road to the vine
