road. back on track. happening today, septa's rail system returns to a regular rail system. and the sound of music, the philadelphia orchestra's two-day strike is over. a vote will be held on a new three-year contract tomorrow. nbc 10 news starts now. 5:30, 63 degrees outside. good morning, this is "nbc 10 news today." i'm tracy davidson. >> i'm vai sikahema. let's start with meteorologist krystal klei, the nbc 10 first alert neighborhood weather. you're keeping one eye on the caribbean with matthew and an eye here with the çfog. >> that's exactly right. it's been a busy forecast, we've seen day after day after fog, cloudy conditions. we're in the 60s right now this morning. take a look at the live camera shots. you'll see fog still hanging over the lehigh valley, parts of new jersey, very cloudy. the pennsylvania suburbs outside our studio, we're seeing those conditions as well. wind is not a big factor.
because we're starting out in the 60s with the likelihood of sunshine, we'll see a better warmup. visibility right now, not good. quarter mile, pottstown, allentown and a half mile, lancaster. three-quarter mile for mt. holly and just around three miles in parts of philadelphia. radar and satellite shows us this morning in parts of delaware where things have been is the rated by a ton of rain over the last week that we have seen a pocket of heavy rain. that's started to weaken. the flood concern not necessarily there for new jersey. we go to traffic now with francesca ruscio. >> we'll she you folks right now, road closures because of access flooding in new castle county on the eastbound and westbound side between airport road and commons boulevard. on top of these wet conditions for many of the areas in the delaware valley, watching for the heavy, dense fog that
kryastl has been mentioning all morning. it's still a tad early for traffic to appear on the secondary roads. let's take a look at the majors right now. here's a live shot of the blue route around ridge pike. you do see it is more traffic. there's more traffic on the roadways out there right now. we're working through the areas of heavy, dense fog. we take a look at the streetlights. route 42 at route 41. we are starting to see more traffic on the roadways right now. it's pretty hazardous, low beams, use caution and allow extra time. startingç today for your commute, septa regional rail riders can expect more trains. >> for the first time in three months, the train system is resuming its full travel schedule as sidelined rail cars come back online. monique braxton is live at the overbrook station with more on that. hi, monique. >> hey there. that is good news for a lot of the silver liner 5 regional riders. looking over my shoulder now,
you can see it is quiet here. we have had test trains go ba by. in july, thousands of passengers were forced to find alternative means of transportation when 120 trains were placed out of service. when a crack was noticed, septa switched to a weekend schedule. today it's back to a normal weekday schedule. only 50 of the repaired silver liner trains are back in the mix. while repairs have been under way, trains have been released from new jersey and maryland as well as amtrak. septa isn't back at full capacity with rail yet. they remind everyone, they will have fewer cars and may be forced to skip a few spots. a representative told us it will be a rough couple of weeks but it's kbong to get better. the silver lining here is, the transit agency says it hopes to
return 14 of the repaired cars, those original cars, back to the rails per week through november. in the meantime, septa is sharing a few tips for its silver liner 5 regional riders. those tips include check all the schedules for unexpected delays. also follow septa on twitter. if you know you want to get to work on the rails, septa is suggesting you not only try the returning silver liner cars but if you see amtrak, new jersey transit or a maryland car, they say hop on that, because there will be more of them on the track today than the silverç liner 5. live for now from overbrook, monique braxton, nbc 10 news. no memory of the accident. that's what the engineer of the nj transit train is saying about last week's crash. the 48-year-old engineer, thomas gallagher told ntsb investigate ares the new jersey transit was running six minutes late and going ten miles per hour as it approached the hoboken station.
one person was killed. and 114 others were hurt when the train smashed into the station thursday morning. we spoke with lawyers representing 19 victims in the amtrak 188 train derailment. they say the details are all too familiar. previously this operator, like the operator of amtrak 188 that derailed, has a loss of memory at the critical moments. >> investigators sacy a data recorder that was recovered from the wreck was not working at the time of the crash and they're still trying to get to the other one. two police cars are responding to a call when they crashed into each other in philadelphia's grays ferry neighborhood last night. the accident happened around 7:00 at 26th and tasker. the force of the impact sent one of the vehicles up on to the sidewalk. one officer was hurt but refused treatment. no one else was hurt. pennsylvania state police searched the property of michael horvath through the weekend,
horvath worked with 42-year-old holly grimm, grimm disappeared from her lower macungie home three years ago. grimm's neighbors want closure. >> every now and then i see a little bit of a story. >> you know, you wonder how something like that happens. you think somebody would see it. >> horvath was arraigned on dui charges one day before police began searching his property. the philadelphia orchestra strike is over. musicians and orchestra leadership reached a tentative deal on a three-year contract. that was yesterday afternoon. the contract includes salary increases every year. orchestra members staged a) walkout cancelling an opening night performance. the board will vote on the contract tomorrow. 5:36. members of the jewish community are celebrating rosh hashanah this morning. the congregation marked the jewish new year at services last night.
rosh hashanah began at sundown and concludes tuesday night. they eat traditional foods like apples dipped in honey. 5:37. get a free flu shot if you live in camden county at the bellmawr fire hall on lewis avenue from 3:30 to 6:30. the county is holding flu shot clinics at 16 locations throughout the month of october. now your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> back to a look at your first alert radar. still tracking the light showers. this is nothing to write home about. you see the light green patches, that's light rain and drizzle out there this morning. on top of that, we already have the fog. the rain just assisting with that. when you have more moisture in the air, much more easy to see fog hang over even after sunrise. what we're looking at right now, burlington, abington, spot showers mostly moving out of philadelphia into gloucester and winslow. the showers continue moving along to the east this morning. that's where they've been tracking is mostly from west to
east. we saw them pass through the suburbs, philadelphia and now into new jersey. we drop further on to the south. we have that pocket of heavier rain that led to issues in delaware because the ground is saturated from rain this past week there. i don't think it will lead to much flooding concern as it moves through parts of new jersey and out to the shore because we didn't see quite as high of rain totals over those locations. let's take a look at temperatures right now. not a bad start, if it wasn't for the rain and fog, it would be a good morning. 63 philadelphia, wilmington, dover as well. lancaster at 62. trenton, 60. atlantic city is sitting at 59 degrees. ñtoday, because we do expect a little more sunshine than we've been seeing for about a week, we should see temperatures in parts of our area, finally making their way into the 70s which will be a welcome change, i think, the sun and the 70s. here's a look at the forecast, 75 center city, somerton at 74. in the suburbs, lansdale at 73 degrees and also those low 70s for doylestown with the fog
hanging over throughout your morning hours. kutztown at 71. 72, that forecast temperature in allentown by this afternoon, pockets of sunshine available. in new jersey, 74 degrees, the forecast for trenton, light showers are moving through there this morning. atlantic city, 72, wilmington at 74 degrees. smyrna will be sitting at a temperature of 73. coming up, we'll talk more about hurricane matthew. we take a look at the extended forecast and the possibility of how it may affect us. krystal, thank you. see you then, monday morning for your commute, if you are heading to the airport, want to make sure you get there on time. >> let's check 95. francesca ruscio is watching that. >> we're opening up 95, our cameras around academy road. traffic so far looks pretty good. we're starting to see more cars on the roadways this morning. southbound traffic doing okay right now. foggy conditions, allow extra time and use caution in and out

>> shut up. >> he started the birther movement. >> you did. >> he says climate change is a hoax invented by china. >> it's pronounced china. >> alec baldwin played donald trump. now your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> forecast is starting out similar to what we saw this weekend. we have the clouds overhead. the fog at the surface and some spotty showers out there this morning. so your commute, not a beautiful one. grab the umbrella although it's not looking like it will be a soaker by any means2today. isolated showers at best. here's your radar and satellite view. the thick clouds hanging over now clipping our area and starting to push off a bit. that's because that storm system that held us under a wet pattern all last week has finally started to move. it's now to the north of us instead of the west of us. which is good news, because it's going to allow for later today,
finally a bit of sunshine in our forecast. i've been dying to say that for days. here's your radar and satellite. showing where the showers are moving through this morning. out of philadelphia into new jersey. we see this line of mostly light rain. we had a pocket of heavier rain that moved through delaware. that has since weakened that will continue to move along to the east. light showers possible in the new jersey. the showers are moving out of delaware. this is a live look in wilmington. you can see it is still dark outside. it's also still cloudy. the cloud win start to thin a tad and the fog has already begun to break apart over portions of delaware. temperatures in the 60s, 63 philadelphia and delaware. 60 for the pennsylvania suburbs and 59, the temperature along the jersey shore currently. temperatures are going to be bumping up to a bit more than they have because we expect breaks in clouds. there are the clouds, pretty thick coverage. notice we start to thin in a few
spot areas by lunch time. more so in the afternoon. still could see isolated showers. spot showers are possible, light at best and peaks of sunshine that you see on map here. that will continue as we move into your evening, partly cloudy, chances of rain returning to the forecast on your tuesday as well. that will be isolated and mostly along the shore into delaware. in philadelphia, though, this is what we're looking at. a mix of clouds and sun, pretty consistent over the next several days. notice we dip to about 69 by your wednesday after a high of 75 today. then our eyes on your weekend. into the nextç week. that's when models are iffy on how matthew may affect us. at this point, we'll go with slight chances of rain picking up into your saturday, sunday. again, depending on the track of matthew, we may need to adjust that forecast. >> ten minutes before 6:00 right now. let's get you to work. we've been talking about the fog.
there are a couple other issues to note as well. one, a road closure in new castle county. >> nbc 10 first alert traffic reporter francesca ruscio has more on that. tell us specifically where that is, francesca. >> vai and tracy, absolutely. we're looking at road close specifically along airport road between highway 37 and route 202. both on the eastbound and westbound side. how can you get around this? it looks like they will be closed for quite some time. you can take route 58 towards 95 for philadelphia or 295 for new jersey. again, road closures in new castle county. here in philadelphia, a live shot of the vine street expressway right around broad street. traffic looks pretty good in the greene. working through wet road conditions. krystal klei's report is affecting traffic this morning. the phillies 2016 season is history and so is ryan howard's time with the only team he has ever known. >> just the city as a whole,
