new york. we're bargathering voter reacti to the presidential race. the concession call at about 2:30 this morning. this is an nbc news special report. here's matt lauer and savannah guthrie. >> good morning. from the nbc news election center in rockefeller plaza, this is an nbc news special report on what has been a stunning few hours in the political world and beyond. donald trump has been elected the next president of the united states. his victory coming early this morning after he won several key battleground states. >> early this morning, trump appeared with his family and his running mate, mike pence at a victory rally here in manhattan shortly after receiving a call from his opponent, hillary clinton, conceding the race. secretary clinton has not appeared in front of the cameras to concede publicly. she is expected to speak about

4 1/2 hours from now. we'll carry that for you live. >> let us get right to nbc national correspondent peter alexander who's been up all night watching this race unfold and then end. peter, good morning. >> matt and savannah, good morning. donald trump just wrapped up his remarks literally less than three hours ago. thises with a political earthquake, both seismic and sweeping this victory for donald trump. it was a dramatic night. inside trump tower there was euphoria, hugs and high fives as trump and his team watched the tally grow as he ultimately overwhelmed hillary clinton in this race. he really has become the great disrupter, riding a wave of support from white working class voters across large swaths of this country. many people who feel they have been left behind by the growth, following the great recession in this çcountry. donald trump last night in his remarks -- donald trump, a man who we should note has urged supporters to effectively say

lock her up, last night said americans owed hillary clinton a debt of gratitude and he also urged the country to come together. >> now it's time for america to bind the wounds of division. we have to get together. to all republicans and democrats and independents across this nation, i say, it is time for us to come together as one united people. >> new this morning, one other note, donald trump's favored mega phone through the course of the campaign was twitter. this morning he's changed his bion his twitter account, matt and savannah, it now reads president-elect. >> all right. peter, thank you. as for the clinton camp, you can only imagine collective devastation this morning as we await her concession speech, nbc's kristen welker just outside in democracy plaza. good morning to you. >> secretary clinton thought she

was poised to make history, instead she suffered a stinging defeat, one that stunned her supporters and sent shock waves all across the world. just recapping what happened last night. thousands of her supporters were gathered at the javid center right here in new york to are what they thought would be a historic celebration. when it came clear that clinton's path was narrowing, many supporters started crying, even leaving before the event was over. her campaign chairman addressed the crowd urging them to fight on but then just moments later, secretary clinton conceded to donald trump. we're still awaiting official reaction from the white house. this is clearly also a rebuke of president obama and his legacy. matt, savannah, back to you. let us turn to another of our sleepless crew here, chuck todd who watched the returns come in, what's been described as an earthquake. a map turned inside out. what do you make of it? >> this is rural america, working class whites essentially

revolting against the political establishment. they did it inside the republican party in nominating donald trump. and i think there was obviously a lot of skepticism in the entire political establishment that he could run a campaign like this and win a general election. but this revolution, you can almost call it, certainly a political revolution, look, it is sending -- it was sending a message that, hey, stop ignoring us, stop talking down to us. i think there's a lot of institutions in this country that have to look at these results and look at what happened and figure out -- >> not just look at the white house. look at the fact republicans end the evening with the white house, the house and the senate. >> it's quite the mandate for donald trump. he did this without the help of anybody. he did this on his own, which means he goes in there almost unshackled. >> well, it's going to be interesting what the relationship going forward is going to be between donald trump and paul ryan. he chastised ryan throughout the course of this campaign for not fully supporting him.

>> let's see if paul ryan stays speaker of the house by the way. >> nbc news will have updates all morning long. we'll have a special edition of "today," coming up. at 6:06 we continue the results and reaction, both to the presidential race and to our local races. we saw high voter turnout across our area at several philadelphia polling locations, the line went on for blocks. >> people told us theyç waited for hours in order to cast their ballots since election officials are still tallying votes, it could be a while before we see exactly how many people turned out at the polls. we saw similar lines in both delaware and new jersey. >> we know the results. and nbc 10's monique braxton is live at the trenton train station with reaction from some of those voters. monique, what are you hearing? >> good morning to you both. many commuters are learning about the outcome of the election when they're arriving here at the train station. most we've spoken to are upset or dismayed but one voter told us she's optimistic about the

president-elect. >> trump. >> we want a better america than we've had in years past. >> you're a trump supporter? >> did i support trump. >> why do you feel he'll be a good president? >> he's a good business person, i feel. some people debate that as well. i think he's not afraid to get in there and make america great again. we need someone to stand for us, be strong and i'm sorry, we need to be feared again. >> people who said they were not going to vote for trump may or may not have voted for him. it's just sad that you don't feel comfortable vocalizing who you support but then in anonymity you choose. it says a lot about the core values and the things that you stand for. >> that was monique braxton reporting from the trenton transportation center. breaking news this morning, a fire still burning at an old mill in wilmington. this is a live picture from skyforce 10 at riddle avenue and mill road.

the fire started around 2:30 this morning. you can see it continues to burn. the fire department telling us they expect the building to burn for hours. there are no reports of any injuries. we continue to monitor the situation. we'll have the latest developments for you as we get them on air and on the nbc 10 app. >> we have a lot to cover for you this morning. let's get you updated on the rain moving in with meteorologist bill henley. bill? >> firefighters are about to get help in wilmington. this is rain moving in, allentown, the suburbs and portions of delaware in northern new castle county. just some very light rain for newark. it's on the way to wilmington. and it is just starting to move in to philadelphia, too. norristown has light rain. springfield just getting a few rain drops right now. won't be much longer and that rain will be in center city. 52 degrees right now in the city. we will see clouds and rain. that rain will be falling at 8:00, 51 degrees and 55 degrees at 11:00 with showers continuing into the afternoon. and the rain is already falling in the lehigh valley, too. that's a cloudy view from

easton, 47 now. up to 53 degrees in spite of the clouds and the rain, the temperatures will be coming up but not to what we saw yesterday. afternoon high temperatures in the 50s for philadelphia, the suburbs, new jersey, 54 degrees in the lehigh valley. and 57 degrees with showers mainly on and off this afternoon for delaware. i'll break it down hour by hour when i'm back in less than ten minutes. first, jessica boyington has your first alert traffic. >> let's talk to jessica about what she's following. jessica? >> at the boulevard? >> yes, flashing lights behind me there from bill, tracy and vai, watching around broad street, a southbound accident scene. we are zoomed in on the accident scene right now. you can see the flashing lights. that's penndot crews, maybe tow trucks arriving to the scene. on the southbound side, one lane is getting by. it's crawling. that means it's traffic moving towards the schuylkill expressway. that's where we see most of the

traffic at this time of morning as well. kind of unfortunate timing there. we'll keep our eye on that for you. lower providence, watching for an accident on egypt road and crawford road and accident in new hanover on charlotte street and swamp pike. the blue route, no big problems or delays. 15 minutes southbound from the schuylkill to 95. when i come back, more updates on the boulevard. the most expensive senate race in history came down to the wire. >> we will break down the tight contest between pat toomey and katie mcginty. also, here's a look at the front pages in philadelphia. breaking news. a fire burning at an old mill in wilmington. skyforce 10 is live over the scene. this is riddle avenue and mill road. the fire department tells us they expect the building to burn for hours. no reports of any injuries. we'll have the latest developments for you on air as we get them, also on our nbc 10 app. >> about quarter past 6:00 a.m. it looks like -- i can't make out whether it's construction. there is certainly a problem on the boulevard. >> we'll find out. jessica boyington has you covered. jess? >> unfortunately it's an accident, vai and tracy. that's right on the southbound side of the boulevard around broad street. it's a little zoomed in right here. since it's still a little dark outside, it's difficult to see. a few vehicles involved there. it looks like we have penndot crews as well. one lane is squeezing by. you can see that on the southbound side. this is bad timing, right before the beginnings of rush hour.ç again, this is the boulevard

southbound right around broad street. we'll watch for those delays there. that's one of our biggest accidents to talk about. there are minor accidents in the area. lower providence, egypt road and crawford road there's an accident there. move over to new jersey, checking in with a better looking area right now. route 38 in morsetown, new jersey around nixon drive. just a few cars on the road. no big problems or delays. watch for an accident in hanover on charlotte street and swamp pike. >> 6:17. we're tracking rain moving in today and bill henley has an update on that. bill? >> it won't be much longer, you'll see rain drops falling on boathouse row, ben franklin boulevard. the parkway has been dry overnight. the rain is just starting in to parts of philadelphia, about to hit wilmington, too. and it's going to be light rainfall and it's going to be around for much of the day. that's going to keep things cool. rain falling right now. 47 degrees in the lehigh valley. low 50s for the suburbs. philadelphia is at 52 degrees and that 50 right now in

delaware, may come down a little bit as the rain starts moving in. you can see 40s this morning, harmony hills at 48 degrees. marshallton, 48 and 52 in wilmington. a cool day today. it will keep the entire delaware valley in the 50s today. and that includes southern delaware, too. showers just light sprinkles in the wilmington area. the steadier rain is just to the west. it's already moving in to the pennsylvania suburbs and the lehigh valley. this is the beginning of the rain that's going to be here through the day today. and then we'll be clearing out late tonight. see the scattered showers in western pennsylvania. that's what we'll see this evening. hour by hour forecast, 9:00, here comes the rain moving through the area during the day today. there will be some breaks in the precipitation. not an all-day rainfall. this is noontime. you see that next line of showers coming in for the afternoon and for the early evening hours. 6:00 this evening, look how it's drying out to the west. that's drying that will take us into tomorrow. for today, though, need your

map. trump won the must-win states of ohio, florida and north carolina and captured pennsylvania. a blue-leaning state that has not voted republican since 1988. we'll tail you live to new york for what's next for president-elect trump in just a minute. first, a check on your neighborhood forecast that has rain in it with bill henley. bill? >> the rain is moving quickly. i don't know how much light rain will help with the fire in wilmington. we're just starting to see the first rain drops in wilmington right now. that is light rain movinging into new castle county, delaware county, seeing a few scattered showers. we're getting light rain in philadelphia, too. the steadier rain in coatesville and king of prussia, abington, now seeing some of the light rain. that will stay with us for most of the morning. that will keep temperatures cool during the day today. it didn't get as cold overnight with temperatures right now in the 40s, well above freezing. below freezing at this time yesterday in the lehigh valley. you can see the clouds that have moved in and light rain falling 53 degrees in spite of the rain.

the temperatures will be warming up, just not that massive warmup that we saw yesterday. 56 degrees at noontime today. philadelphia, the suburbs, a little cooler this morning. here comes the rain. grab an umbrella and plan on the rain continuing well into the afternoon and possibly into the evening commute as well. i'll break these forecasts down hour by hour when i come back in less than ten minutes. first let's get a check on the commute. jessica boyington has your first alert traffic. >> thanks, bill, an accident scene on the boulevard on the southbound side. one lane of traffic is getting by right now. you can see them crawling by the scene. there's a few cars involved, looks like a tow truck, penndot crews as well. the right shoulder, the next lane over block. this traffic headed southbound is approaching the schuylkill expressway. we'll see delays there, especially at this time when rush hour is just beginning. all that traffic that moves towards the schuylkill. anyway, we typically see delays there as it is. burlington township in new jersey, there's an accident on

the new jersey turnpike headed northbound around the trenton area, exit 5, route 541. there's an another in white marsh, baron hill road and harts lane. i say it is time for us to come together as one united people. >> trump elected president. that's the headline shaking the world and putting the u.s. on a new course this morning. donald trump is the winner of decision 2016. >> nbc 10's matt delucia is live in new york city near trump tower. what's been the reaction from people you've encountered on the streets of manhattan? >> in the first couple of hours we saw donald trump supporters here on fifth avenue in front of trump tower very excited. take a look at what we saw. >> trump, baby, trump! trump, trump, trump, trump! woo!

>> you see the happy trump supporters, happy with their choice and america's choice. they stayed up late watching republican nominee donald trump become president-elect. and made his victory speech at the hilton in midtown manhattan. his crowd of supporters there with him. vice president-elect mike pence as well. trump says hillary clinton did call him earlier to concede. he congratulated clinton on a hard-fought campaign and what she's done for this country. listen to some of what he had to say about his plans for the job ahead. >> but to be really historic, we have to do a great job. and i promise you that i will not let you down. we will do a great job. we will do a great job. i look very much forward to being your president and hopefully at the end of two years or three years or four years or maybe even eight years,

you will say so many of you worked so hard for us be, but you will say that was something that you were really very proud to do. >> trump also talked about the importance of unifying the country right now. after the race was called, we spoke with some of those who supported trump's bid for the presidency and who are now happy it will become a reality. >> wonderful, fantastic. super exciting and weç couldn' be happier. >> from the very beginning when i was over at trump tower within he made the announcement, i told my cousin, he's going to win. people are not taking him seriously and he's going to win. and sure enough, tonight, he's the winner. >> back live here, trump tower in midtown manhattan, this is where it all began nearly a year and a half ago, june of last year. that's when donald trump announced his run and started his campaign. there's been a large nypd and

security presence here throughout the night. historic night, really. trump is the first person to win the presidency without ever holding elected office or serving in the armed forces. another point of note here, you can see this truck is trying to get through here, there were barricades on the other side here. hillary clinton's hotel is just a few blocks from where we are. looking at trump's twitter pages, the last tweet we saw was from 9:45 last night where he's posting a picture himself with mike pence and his family, saying they were watching the returns. the only other change was that he changed his title to president-elect of the united states. we'll see what happens next. for now live in midtown manhattan, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. >> thank you. one local race, because of the balance of power in the senate, the most expensive senate race in the country paid off for republican pat toomey. >> the lehigh valley native is heading back to washington for a second term. >> this was a tough campaign.

this was quite a battle. there was an all-time record amount of money spent against us. a lot of the ads were outright false. but you know, the voters were smart enough to figure it out. >> look, we're not going to stop fighting for the issues that we care about. as a mom, i'm going to be out there still fighting to make sure that every beautiful child has good schools, safe communities and a chance to succeed. >> toomey's re-election helps republicans keep control of the senate. now to the top race in the state of delaware. >> in the race for governor, democrat john carney beat out republican colin bonini. carney with 58% of the vote. new jersey voters decided two high-profile ballot questions. the first question was a measure to allow casinos at two locations in new jersey. the nos carried 78%. casino gambling will remain legal only in atlantic city.

>> the second ballot question in new jersey, whether the state should dedicate money from the recent gas tax increase to the state transportation system. yes, 54% and 46% voting no. landon dowdy is here with cnbc business news. >> hey there, vai, good morning. it means global market shock. u.s. markets poised to open sharply lower this morning. futures indicated the dow could fall as much as 800 points. the biggest loss ever in the dow's history, 777 points after congress rejected the government bailout bill in the fall of 2008. futures have since come well off of their lows as the presidential race was called. futures are now down about 400 points. overseas, there are lots of red arrows, europe is down but also off the lows of the day,ç asia

japan's stock market posting the biggest loss closing down 919 points or about 5%. u.s. dollar is lower versus other major currency such as the japanese yen and swiss frank. but those currencies are seen as safe haven investments. keep an eye on, the mexican peso. it's been viewed as a barometer of the market expectations of a trump win and the future of u.s. trade policy with its neighbors. gold, another safe haven investment rose as much as 5% early this morning as the results came in but has trimmed those gains. guys, with your cnbc business report, i'm landon dowdy. >> let's get you updated on the forecast and rain moving in with meteorologist bill henley. bill? >> it's not taking its time. it's sweeping right into the area. we're seeing steady rain from the lehigh valley into the suburbs. and now into delaware. it's moved into new castle county. that's light rain for wilmington and middletown is getting some

of that light rain. scattered showers for philadelphia at this time. won't be long that the rain that's in west chester will quickly move into delaware county, philadelphia, and into new jersey, too. you can see a few rain drops are starting to fall in salem county and gloucester county as everybody will see the rainfall today. we're not going to get heavy rain. it will be a steady light rain for much of the day. you can see an isolated moderate shower way to our west. that will skip past us. it won't be an all-day rainfall. you'll want to keep your umbrella with you all day because it will be with us, a possibility into the late afternoon hours. 52 degrees right now in philadelphia. the rain starting will drop the temperature a little bit. not significantly. 51 degrees at 8:00. the cool weather stays with us right on through the afternoon hours. 55 degrees with rain at noontime and then we'll get more showery, scattered showers into the afternoon for 2:00 and 4:00. suburbs already seeing that light rain, 50 degrees, holding at 50 at 8:00. the rain this morning will

continue into the afternoon. 54 degrees at lunch time for the suburbs and 54 degrees right on through the afternoon, thanks to those clouds. the lehigh valley, this is an area that first saw the rain, did drop the temperatures into the 40s. even there you will see the temperatures climb into the lower 50s for the afternoon. and new jersey, largely rain-free right now. that, too, will change. the clouds increasing and a steady rain this morning. into the afternoon hours, we'll still get showers, possibly into the evening, too, for the new jersey interior areas. the shore you'll also see those showers arrive, a little bit delay by later this morning. the rain will be coming down at the jersey shore. for delaware, the rain moves into wilmington and it will be a steady rain this morning. 57 degrees at lunch time and not much warmer than that this afternoon. be stuck in the 50s today. there is sunshine in our future. i have a look at that with the 10 day on 10 when i'm back in just a few minutes. >> speaking of sunshine with the sunrise and a little bit more light, we can see a little better with the problem

we are breaking news we're following. a four-alarm fire burning at old mill in wilmington. skyforce 10 live over the scene at riddle avenue and mill road. the fire started about 2:30 this morning. it's been burning for just over four hours now. the fire department telling us they expect the building to burn for hours. bill henley is forecasting rain. that may come a little too late.

would be delivered to his house and then connected. he says he didn't realize the new phone was in a bag he carried out of the store. he later lost the bag. verizon told him he still had to pay off the remaining balance on the lost phone and he says he did pay. >> the company calling me, calling me. i says, yes, i'm sorry. i pay $600 for the phone. >> reporter: a verizon rep assured him once he paid for the phone he would receive no more bills. he even got the confirmation e-mail in spanish saying his balance is zero. weeks later he received a bill for $492. >> they called me three or four times to collect the money. >> reporter: he tried contacting verizon himself but was told he wasn't in had the klein the database. that's when he contacted nbc 10 responds. we reached out to verizon. they told us they'd look into the issue. a few days later, he received a call saying he owed nothing. verizon told us they're glad his
