right now on "nbc 10 news today," a mob of teenage boys attacks people at random in center city leaving at least eight people hurt. coming up how an off-duty police officer tried to step in. plus protesters pack the streets in cities all across the country for another night of demonstrations against the election of donald trump as president. it is the battle of the birds. the eagles play the atlanta falcons at the linc today. they hope the home field advantage will help them break a two game losing streak on the road. nbc 10 news starts now. good morning, this is "nbc 10 news today," i'm rosemary connors. it's 5:30 on this sunday. another cold start to our morning. meteorologist krystal klei is tracking the frigid weather in our first alert neighborhood
forecast. >> just like yesterday morning, 30s all over the board again. and philadelphia right back to where we were yesterday at this time upper 30s. we're at 38 degrees. allentown barely above freezing at 34 degrees and 36 the temperature in dover. some of us still have dropped below that 32 degree line. vineland at 27 degrees outside. cooling here, we'll typically see that low just a bit after sunrise. meaning that we still have another hour here where temperatures may slip before they'll start to climb once the sun is up. chilly start to your day. but the good news is unlike yesterday, things will be warming better off in the afternoon. freeze warning in place, philadelphia, the i-95 corridor through zell wear and then rate up cape may county as well. these are areas that may not have seen a freezing temperature yet. so the warning is that it's probably going to happen through much of this zone by early this morning. if you have sensitive plants and of course pets bring them on in
if you haven't already done so. hopefully you did it last night. here's a look at radar and satellite clear conditions as well, just a few spotty clouds rolling on by. today should be another sunny one. but that doesn't last much longer. we're tracking chances of rain and we'll check in on those chances of rain before they may move through our area. >> thanks, krystal. three teenagers are under arrest and police are looking for more off a mob-style attack in center city. an off-duty police officer who tried to put a stop to the beatings is one of the injured victims. this all happened near 16th and walnut streets around 6:00 last night. a police source tells us the group of about 50 teenage boys moved down the block, picking out people at random and then attacking them. at least eight people were hurt. the off-duty officer tried to arrest several of the boys but the mob turned on him breaking the bone around his eye. witnesses who were shaken up after the incident spoke to us on camera but did not want their faces shown. >> it was unprovoked. they didn't say anything. and they just found themselves,
you know, getting beat up. it was scary. >> police will be looking at surveillance video to identify more boys from the group to arrest. this morning an accident in center city philadelphia leaves two women in critical condition. police say both were hit at 11th and market streets just before 2:30 this morning. investigators tell us the drivers did stay at the scene. there's no word of any charges in this case. this morning a suspect is in critical but stable condition following a police involved shooting in philadelphia. here's what we know. police tell us they were checking out a minivan at fourth and linley streets last night when a man got out of the van and took off running. police say they chased the suspect, who fell, got up, and then turned toward the officers with a gun. that's when one officer shot the suspect. that officer is on administrative leave while authorities investigate the case. villanova university is urging its campus community to come together after a student says she was attacked by a group of men yelling trump.
police tell nbc 10 that the assault happened in the septaness tunnels between west campus and main campus thursday night. there are few details on this incident but yesterday villanova released a statement saying that this racist behavior runs completely counter to the school's values. there's no word on any suspects but villanova insists anyone responsible will face serious consequences. the fbi continues to look into racist messages sent to black students at the university of pennsylvania. security experts traced the messages to oklahoma. and the university of oklahoma has suspended one of its students in connection with the case. using a text messaging app, someone or some people who identified themselves as trump's disciples and daddy trump sent 100 students at penn racist messages, and images of lynchings. president-elect trump graduated from penn's wharton school of business. penn alumni have started a change.org petition calling on mr. trump to break his silence
on the string of hate crimes following the election. they're urging him to make a statement denouncing all hate speech. so far it has received nearly 6,000 signatures. post-election protests are continuing across the country. you're looking at an anti-trump demonstration in portland, oregon, last night. police made at least two dozen arrests here. other protests in new york, miami, and las vegas have been mostly peaceful. in philadelphia, anti-trump protesters marched in center city for a fourth straight night. police escorted dozens of demonstrators last night, many of them held signs criticizing the president-elect. anti-trump protesters also took to the streets of bucks county last night. these photos show demonstrators marching. the presidential vote in bucks county was really split, 48% to 48% with clinton winning by just 2,000 votes. >> you're a bunch of liberal, communists -- >> at the sound of duelling
pro-tests between pro-trump and anti-trump supporters in easton. nbc 10 was at the roundabout where both sides made their voices heard from opposite sides of the street. trump supporters said the country should give the president-elect a chance. trump opponents promised to keep their protests going. a little bit later this morning on "meet the press" the trump transition will be the focus of discussion. moderator chuck todd will sit down with trump campaign manager kellyanne conway, and new jersey senator cory booker. it all comes your way at 10:30 right here on nbc 10. 5:36 right now on this sunday. is it a reason why she lost? we'll tell you who hillary clinton is blaming. for failing to win the white house. and will donald trump be a tweeting president? we're learning more about how he'll use social media once he takes office.
it's starting out just like yesterday, very cold beginning and looking at fair conditions. today we're going to be warmer than yesterday. yesterday we barely capped out in the low 50s. today, check it out by your lunch hour instead of 40s, mid 50s out there and we should warm up to right around the low 60s. high temperatures in philadelphia, sunny conditions willton. our entire region expected to stay clear today. 53 by lunch time. expecting temperatures to cap around the upper 50s through the suburbs and the lehigh valley. temperatures this morning, 34 degrees early on this morning. at eight look a.m. at 39 in delaware, new jersey and a little better off along the shore where we get the moderating effect from the water. the afternoon temperatures, already going to be in the mid 50s with a dry forecast throughout the rest of the day. dry through your sunday and some areas of your monday but we can't save the whole region.

a pulitzer prize winning columnist chased down a thief he discovered in his old city hotel room this weekend. "new york times" writer nicolas christophe says he left the door to his home unlocked when he went to get some coffee. when he came back he found a man standing next to his sleeping wife holding her purse. he said he threatened to throw coffee on the intruder and chased him to the lobby. christoph wrote on "the new york times" website with another people nearby and not wanting him to escape out the main door i jumped him and pinned him in a full nelson. police eventually arrested the intruder. hillary clinton says letters fbi director james comey released late in the campaign are part of the reason she lost the presidential election.
during a farewell conference call with donors yesterday, clinton said, quote, but our analysis is that comey's letter raising doubts that were groundless, baseless, stopped our momentum, end quote. late last month, comey sent a letter to congress saying the fbi was looking at new e-mails in clinton's case, but comey later said the bureau found no new evidence of any wrongdoing. president-elect donald trump is speaking out about how much he'll be tweeting once he's in the white house. mr. trump told "60 minutes" he's not signing off on social media. >> are you going to be tweet in and whatever you're upset about just put out there when you're president? >> it's a modern form of communication between facebook and twitter. and instagram. i have 28 million people. >> 28 million people. >> so you are going to tweet out? >> it's a great form of communication. >> the president-elect took to twitter several times since the election, including a tweet about recent protests against him.
people concerned about the trump presidency held a solidarity forum in old city philadelphia yesterday. organizers insist many minority groups are frightened about what could happen to them following the heated language of the campaign. the polling for new measures to protect minorities and immigrants. now your nbc 10 first alert weather. and we're beginning with a look at that temperature board compared to yesterday and things look pretty similar yet again. chilly start out there. a lot of 30s on the map. these are some of your pennsylvania suburb locations that we're looking at. uniondale 26 degrees checking in right now. westchester the same, 29 degrees. dropping below the 30s here. euclid township a little bit above at 36. and the numbers just keep going around the 20s to low 30s. you see areas at 35. elroy at 30 degrees. so, some of us have already begun that freezing point.
some of us very close to it but not officially there. regardless, step out the door early, you are going to notice that it is another cold start to kick off your sunday morning. radar and satellite, fair conditions out there right now. and those fair conditions really have, right now, most of the day. we are tracking just spotty clouds but otherwise plenty of sun for your sunday. actually, sunday looks way better than saturday when it comes to the afternoon temperatures. because we're going to be warmer than yesterday. we've shifted our flow. and as we mentioned yesterday. that means we're now pulling in winds from the west. when that happens you pull in warmer air so temperatures can bump up. really good news if you're heading to the eagles game. great conditions out there for the afternoon. still a little chilly if you're tail getting getting ready in the next couple hours to head out it will be cool. moving through 40s to about 50 degrees ahead of the game, and then by kickoff, 60s, 1:00 p.m. sunny as well. very nice. winds at 10 to 15 miles per hour coming out of the west. that helps with the warmth and
by the fourth quarter 58 degrees and still sunny conditions as well. so end of game looking very good. forecast for the rest of the neighborhoods, very similar. most of us close to 60 degrees. 61 in center city. lansdale 59 degrees, and doylestown right at 60. easton the same with at 60 degree forecast highs across the lehigh valley. looking in new jersey. look at the conditions here right around 60 degrees across the entire board. so easton township 61. ocean city at 60. rehoboth beach the same. and 59 for that temperature in smyrna. across the board also sunny conditions in today's forecast. so if you didn't get out yesterday, but you kind of were thinking about, today is the day to do it. it's going to be warmer than yesterday, so it won't hold you back quite as much. hour by hour forecast. dry conditions today. there's those clear conditions we've been talking about. that's through 6:30. planning dinner outside certainly going to be fine to do so. chilly overnight into monday, early morning but we remain clear.
then we start to pull in increasing clouds ahead of a coastal system that's going to clip right by it. it will move right over us or a little offshore from us. either way we'll get some rain but how much will depend on the track of the system through tomorrow. nonetheless, expecting scattered showers as we move overnight. 2:30 a.m. into tuesday. the rain really starts to push in. we'll continue to track the potential for rain as we come up. >> all right, thanks krystal. down the shore police and other first responders cheered officer josh when he walked into the gym in atlantic city high school yesterday. police and firefighters from all over the northeast are playing in a weekend basketball tournament to raise funds for him and his family. officer individualle was shot in the head in september when he and his partner interrupted an armed robbery. he was released from his rehabilitation program last week this is a picture of him leaving the program. two men face charges in the shooting. well, the drinks are on bruce springsteen. that's how the superstar rocker
thanked some bikers who found him stranded on the side of the road. here's the story. one of the bikers took this picture with the boss in new jersey on friday. the biker says he and his buddies pulled over to help a man whose motorcycle broke down. they had no clue it was springsteen until they got up close and saw him. the biker gave the boss a ride to a local bar where springsteen chatted with them for a little while before pick picking up the tab. nice. ten minutes until 6:00 on this monday. battle of the birds. the eagles gearing up for their showdown with the falcons at the linc. also, it was a good night for the flyers as they battled the minnesota wild. we'll have the highlights from the wells fargo center next in sports.
