we are live with the latest on the investigation. you have to start getting your hands dirty if you fill up the tank in new jersey. what could force drivers to pump their own gas. and a look at the center city skyline, off to a chilly start, and winds make it feel colder. good morning. welcome back to nbc10 today. i am rosemary connors. 5:30 this saturday morning. thanks for being with us. let's get to the forecast with meteorologist krystal klei tracking the cold start on this saturday. >> we can't catch a break. had the rain and winds, now we continue with winds for our saturday. today while we look at temperatures in the 40s, it is windy and going to continue to see winds pick up strength for the afternoon which means they stay chilly throughout most of the day today. into sunday, also a cool day. temperatures should be lower than this afternoon. the good news, winds shouldn't
be as strong on sunday. then look at the extended forecast, some on, off rain chances, pretty consistent moving through the work week. tuck the umbrella in the car, leave it there throughout the work week conditions. we'll get to that in a minute. right now, talk about feels like conditions. feeling like the 30s across the map, except for the poconos, mount pocono, 23 degrees. 37 for philadelphia. atlantic city also at 34 degrees for feels like conditions. as for radar and satellite, the wider view shows that we have scattered clouds, light snow moving in parts of new york. we stay on the dry side for the forecast couple days before on and off chances move in. we will track your saturday and sunday, look at the weekend forecast throughout your neighborhood. details coming in a few minutes. >> see you then. thanks, krystal. a mother calls on her son's
killers to do the right thing, turn themselves into police. she spoke at a vigil for her murdered 14-year-old son. monique braxton is live at police headquarters with more on where the case stands and what happened at the vigil, monique? >> reporter: hi, rosemary. homicide detectives are searching for two gunmen seen running from the northeast corridor where ian wilsey was last alive. he was shot several times. our camera was rolling at an emotional vigil, his grieving mother kelly was among the mourners at the vigil. she spoke about her son, a freshman at northeast high school. >> smiled a lot, very well liked, played football and sports, loves rap music. >> reporter: monday night he was shot in the chest.
investigators say he was walking with a friend about ten blocks from his home, just a block from roosevelt boulevard. someone tried to rob him according to investigators and when wilsey ran, the gunman opened fire. investigators tell us they spent the past few days retracing the steps, talking to business people in the area and reviewing surveillance video. we will stay on top of the investigation. live outside police headquarters, monique braxton, nbc10 news. >> thanks for that. nbc10 is learning about a spring of murders relate will to a war from rival gangs. >> you hit? >> no. >> okay, is there anybody else in the car with you? >> my aunt and my three-year-old son. >> that's a 911 call nbc10 obtained from a shootout on the expressway in august.
five were shot, one killed and several charged. investigators believe that is connected to two other homicides. first happened outside hamilton mall black friday morning. wednesday in a housing complex next to the mall. the prosecutor office is leading a huge taskforce including local and state authorities and the fbi. we will keep you posted on that. one person is recovering after being hit by a trolley in springfield, delaware county. sky force 10 was over the scene at 8:30. two people were walking the tracks near route 102. one was hit by the trolley and taken to the hospital, expected to survive. the other wasn't hurt. neither was anybody on the trolley. to the lehigh valley. fire victims are salvaging what they can from a burned mess. yesterday went back to their homes after flames gutted more
than a half dozen row homes thursday night. look at the video of the fire. flames destroying six of the houses. fire, smoke, water damaged two other homes. nobody was hurt but again, victims lost all their belongings. they tell us it could have been worse. >> main thing is we made it out, nobody died, nobody got hurt. of course it hurt, you have a lot of personal belongings there. >> american red cross is helping the victims, most don't have a home for the holidays so the red cross is helping them find someplace to stay. the push to raise new jersey minimum wage could lead to drivers pumping their own gas in the garden state. activists behind the move to raise minimum wage to $15. the lieutenant governor says it could force gas stations to cut hourly jobs and could lead to self service at the pump. minimum wage issue likely to be on the ballot in new jersey next
fall. sounds like a strange combo. food and flu. the food bank is teaming up to give 45,000 pounds of food and free flu shots. a tractor-trailer full of food will be at winslow school number 3 today from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. anybody 17 and older can get the free flu shot. a week of mourning coming to a close as cubans prepare for the final farewell for fidel castro this weekend. in our area, a busy weekend for activities. where the parades and other activities are happening through the day.
welcome back. starting with wind speeds coming in from the northwest, not terribly strong, 10 to 15 miles per hour. we will see these pick up going into the afternoon. winds closer to 10 to 20 miles per hour and gusts higher than that. gusts up to 30 miles per hour. means it will feel cooler than it is outside. we're getting used to it. here's the philadelphia forecast. the planner showing us we move along with a mix of sun and clouds. starting in the low 40s. don't climb much. noon, 43 degrees. afternoon up to 49 degrees. that's it. also there you go with winds picking up 17 miles per hour by this afternoon. areas like new jersey much of the same. lower 40s to start. by noon, 47 degrees. also making it to upper 40s in
the afternoon with clouds and sunshine mix. winds starting to pick up later in the day. now we're looking at delaware. notice a theme. we start out mild temperature wise. feels like conditions are lower because of winds which continue to gain steam up to close to 20 miles per hour by lunchtime. that's when we are in the upper 40s. wouldn't be surprised to see a few spots in the lower 50s for forecast high temperatures. but feeling like the mid 40s for delaware, feeling like the low 40s for areas like philadelphia and new jersey. that's your saturday. sunday is different. winds start to die down. we will talk about the rest of your weekend in a few minutes. today in montgomery county, nor is town police teaming up to give away 100 christmas trees to families in need. the event from 9:00 until 4:00 at the police department on airy street. families are invited for hot chocolate and cookies and kids can select a tree to take home.

cuba is getting ready for the final farewell. he will be buried in santiago. he died at the age of 90. back here in the u.s., in south carolina jury deliberations continue in the trial of a police officer accused of shooting an unarmed man. yesterday the judge asked the judge for more time after they said they were deadlocked reaching a verdict. the former officer is charged in the death of walter scott, who is african-american. slager shot scott five times in the back as he ran from a traffic stop. the incident was caught on camera. so far the jury put in 16 hours
of deliberations. the stabbing of a professor at university of southern california is not a random act of violence. they believe it was result of a personal dispute between the teacher and one of his students. the student is now under arrest. it happened near a science building yesterday afternoon. unemployment shrinks, bonuses grow, and some jobs won't go to mexico. we look at those stories and more from this past week in business news. >> reporter: surprise drop in unemployment rate, fell to 4.6%. lowest level in nine years. the economy added 178,000 new jobs roughly in line with estimates. however, more than 400,000 people left the work force. carrier says it is moving fewer jobs to mexico after reaching a deal with president-elect trump. carrier plans to keep about a thousand jobs at a heating equipment plant in indianapolis

you're going to notice it as you step out the door. here are current temperature readings in the pennsylvania suburbs. you see the nines, that's an error reported. most of the suburbs are in the lower 40s to kickoff the morning. warrenton, 41. new jersey temperatures also very similar. pitman, 41. robinville, 42 degrees. those numbers aren't bad, calculate in that the winds are up, it feels like mid to low 30s outside, then it starts to feel chilly as you step out the door. radar and satellite shows scattered clouds lingering through the forecast. going to be a mix of partly cloudy to mostly sunny conditions. that means on and off clouds moving throughout. you'll notice a cloud sun mix
today and into sunday. future wind gusts, 2:00. notice winds picking up. gusts around 30 to 35 miles per hour possible. this particular model keeps us at 29. winds start to dip this evening, 15 to 20 miles per hour gusts. by 8:00, if you have plans outdoors, you're going to notice a chilliness. turn on the gloves or thicker coat. as we go overnight, winds die down sunday into the afternoon. by tomorrow, 8 miles per hour winds. tomorrow is looking better than today even though tomorrow's temperatures are cooler officially. here's the look. 49 in philadelphia. 47 sunday. most of us in the 40s. 45 for the lehigh valley. some delaware beach points into wilmington are around 50 degrees.
