[ laughter ] a huge political story here. according to "the washington post," the cia found that russia interfered in the election to help donald trump win the presidency. [ audience oohs ] experts say this is the biggest scandal america's faced for decades and the biggest scandal trump's faced since friday. [ laughter ] yeah. [ cheers and applause ] that's right. they're saying russia interfered with the election. of course, russia faced several obstacles in helping trump win, namely trump. [ laughter ] [ russian accent ] "like teaching bear to moonwalk, which i have done." of course, christmas is just a a couple of weeks away. oh, i love christmas. [ cheers and applause ] and experts say that one of this year's most popular children's toys for the
holidays is my little pony crystal empire castle. that's true. that's it right there if you want to see what it looks like. once again, this year's least popular toy is my little pony crystal meth rv. [ laughter ] i don't know why every year -- >> steve: every year, it's the least popular. [ applause ] >> jimmy: listen to this. the better business bureau just released a list of the top ten holiday scams to avoid. and get this. the list only cost me $200. [ laughter ] [ cheers and applause ] i didn't get it yet. i didn't get it yet, but i'm -- the guy told me meet him on the corner and he's gonna give it to me. [ laughter ] a little controversy here, you guys. little controversy. [ laughter ] little controversy here, guys. the -- the hallmark channel is coming under fire for having mostly white actors as the stars of their christmas movies. then hallmark said, "that's not true. none of the actors in our movies are stars."
[ laughter ] [ cheers and applause ] come on. i remember that -- i remember him. he played the guy. i remember. this is pretty amazing. apparently, an uber driver just set the company's record for longest ride by driving a a passenger 400 miles from virginia to brooklyn. afterwards, the driver said, "thanks for letting me share my life story. i feel like we really bonded." and the passenger said, "i'm sorry, did you say something? i was just listening --" [ applause ] some big sports news. the nfl just announced that there will be four regular season games in london next year. [ cheers ] people in london are psyched. in fact, one fan's already wearing her beer crown. and then -- she's very excited. [ laughter and applause ] "tailgate anyone?" and finally, this was very cute. a park in japan dressed up six penguins in santa claus outfits for an annual christmas march. take a look at this. don't tell them what the actual movie is about. anyway, have them write a short scene, one or two pages, with two characters talking to each other. and just give them the title "gold," and let their imagination do the rest. when they're done, just take a a photo of their script or scan it and e-mail it to firstname.lastname@example.org. we're going to choose our favorites and matthew and i will act them out on our show. it's going to be fun. [ cheers and applause ] ♪ bang! >> yeah, yeah. >> jimmy: heisenberg, ooh, yeah. congrats on that, buddy. >> thank you. >> jimmy: but this is filled with fun stories. but here's what a fun guy i think that you are. you did something really cool that i never heard of anyone doing before. is this your idea or did you get it from someone else? do you know what i'm talking about? >> oh, yeah, yeah. no, i did a three week tour for the book and every day i was in a new city and going through airports. and i would catch my -- my book would catch my eye in the window. >> jimmy: you're like, "who's that handsome man?" >> i'd go, "what? oh, that's right!" and so i just -- on a whim, i just went in and bought one. and then took the receipt and kept the receipt in here and i wrote, "hey, thanks for looking at my book. this is for you." something like that -- >> jimmy: yeah.
>> and it's free, and here, here's the receipt. and just take it, walk out with it. so -- and then i would buy it and then i would just slip it back on to the thing. >> jimmy: you wouldn't even tell the bookstore? >> no, i wouldn't tell anybody. i would just like -- so somewhere in airports or any other bookstore that i happen to go into -- >> jimmy: yeah. >> there is a -- there is a a copy, if it hasn't been taken already -- >> jimmy: yeah. >> of the book. >> jimmy: so here's one, here's from -- >> oh. >> jimmy: here's from kenna, this on twitter. she said, "found this on the shelf at love field airport, so amazing, can't wait. is this real, bryan cranston?" >> oh, yeah. >> jimmy: and that's -- that's the book and that's what you wrote -- >> yeah. >> jimmy: and i zoomed in on there. here we go, here. [ light laughter ] but no, i like hearing the fun stories, because it's odd jobs you had before you got into acting. and then acting stories and just -- he just kept -- it's just really great stories. one was that you used to marry people. you used to -- >> that's right. >> jimmy: officiate weddings? >> i was in -- after high school and before college, i spent a summer on catalina island, just working over there. and it's great and i befriended a guy named reverend bob, who is a minister with the universal life church. and one day, he came to me and he said, "you've got to help me out." "sure, what up?" and he goes, "i accidentally booked two weddings, same day, same time, different locations. you have to do one." and i thought, "bob, what are you talking about? i can't do that." and he goes, "no, you have to, you have to." "i can't do it." he goes, "it pays $175." "i'll do it." >> jimmy: i'll do it. yeah, exactly. [ laughter ] i'm there. where do i have to go? >> this is you know, in the late -- this is 1974, so $175 for a couple of hours. and so, he put the certificate
in, sent it off to the secretary of state, and i'm a a minister. and he said, "here, go to this address." and i went to the address, it was an airport, the van nuys airport back in l.a. and i met the wedding party. we got into a six-seater airplane and he said, "when we're over the hollywood sign, begin." now, the -- [ light laughter ] >> jimmy: i think it's cool. >> i'm in the front with the captain. >> jimmy: yeah. >> right? and the wedding party's behind me. and the roar of the engine was like -- [ mimicking engine noise ] so, i had to yell. it's like, "love each other!" >> jimmy: "what?" >> "yes! love each other, depend on the sanctity of love! >> jimmy: "i do!" >> "it will get you through!" >> jimmy: "thank you very much! so romantic!" >> "yes! in good times and in bad! in sickness and in health!" no one knows this song. this is going to be awful. i'm gonna put the mic out and no one's going to say anything. >> jimmy: now you sing! >> oh, my god. there's nothing. but -- >> jimmy: no, you sing. >> yeah, that was like my biggest fear. i was literally five words into the song and they just started to carry it and it took my breath away. it was amazing. >> jimmy: how fun is that? and then you went on tour with meghan trainor. >> yes. >> jimmy: was that your first tour? >> it was my first tour ever. >> jimmy: did you get the tour bus and all that stuff? >> yes. >> jimmy: see, i would be excited about the tour bus. >> that was the number one thing i was most excited about. it took me -- >> jimmy: wow, how cool, i'm in a tour bus. >> always -- >> jimmy: bunk beds. >> yeah. >> jimmy: i love it, yeah. >> it took me solid 30 minutes to choose my bunk. >> jimmy: oh, really? >> yeah. >> jimmy: yeah. how long was it out -- how long were you away from home? >> well, it was probably like four days but it felt like forever -- >> jimmy: yeah, exactly, but still -- >> in the best way. it was a little over a month, maybe two months or so. >> jimmy: that's tough to be away from your life, living out of a bus. >> yeah. >> jimmy: did you -- did you -- did you say goodbye to your parents and just go, "hey, i'll see you guys in a couple" -- >> well, my mom came with me, which was awesome. >> jimmy: that's the best. >> i would not have been able
to get through it without her. >> jimmy: how about dad? >> my dad stayed back. but he is so awesome. he does this thing where he'll send my mom and i off with a a handwritten card -- whether we're gone for two days, two months, two weeks whatever. and he got way ahead of himself and wrote out a card for every city on the tour so that i had a card to open before every show. [ audience aws ] right? >> jimmy: what a good dad! oh my gosh. will you adopt me? i want to talk about your movie, "the edge of seventeen." rave reviews. i want to say it's 94% on rotten tomatoes. i don't know if you look at those things. but we do. it's crushing. it's sad, but it's really funny. and it's -- yeah. tough being a teenager, being a a 17-year-old. you're in this with woody harrelson, plays your history teacher. >> yeah. >> jimmy: and i could just tell -- well, he's an easy guy to get along with. he's super fun. >> oh, my goodness. he -- honestly, thank god we developed such a natural banter between the two of us, because i really feel like that came through on screen. we had the best time together.
he kept me on my toes the entire time. >> jimmy: you could tell you guys liked each other, because it's such a great rapport you guys have. but you were telling me that you guys broke a lot. like when you were in the scenes and laugh. >> there was a -- yes. there was one specific scene where, for whatever reason, that day, i don't know if it had just all just caught up to us in that moment, but we -- i have never seen a human's face more red in my life, he was >> jimmy: just catch your breath. >> and i was laughing so hard. it was the best thing, but also the worst thing, because you're like, we are making no progress here. >> jimmy: yeah. >> but we're having fun. >> jimmy: sometimes you got a a case of the giggles.giggles. i mean, i wouldn't know anything about that.
