guilty on all accounts. a jury happened down guilty verdict on all 33 federal charges. the self-declared white supremacist admitted to killing 9 black church members in june of last year. prosecutors say roof was trying to start a race war. tonight one of the shooting survivors spoke out. >> i wasn't expecting anything less. i knew it was going to be guilty, guilty, guilty completely. >> the same jury will decide next month whether roof will get the death penalty or spend the rest of his life in prison. today gun violence survivors took to capitol hill to demand change. among them, a man from philadelphia who was hurt in the pulse massacre. angel santiago was shot in the leg when a gunman opened fire six months ago this week.
49 people were killed. today santiago and 80 others met in washington, d.c. the group included those impacted by the sandy hook shooting. >> it's empowering. it's an honor. and we feel like when we're united our voice is stronger so we can be heard and have some positive change. >> santiago says he wants to make it clear that they are not against the second amendment but want sensible fires. caught stealing $7.98 worth of food from a wawa. he's a life guard and he had a $78,000 a year salary in the process. tonight those who protested and served philadelphia were treated to a holiday party. the celebration for law enforcement took place in old city. it included special appearances from santa and his elves along
with former eagles player vince batali. a galaxy far, far away is once again coming to a theater near you. >> yeah, it's opening night for the much anticipated movie, "road one." fans of prussia didn't let the cold weather let it keep them going. >> on a group effort to steal the plans for the star. turning to this. bitter cold in camden tonight. a live look right now where the temperatures are below 20 degrees. the wind chill in the single digits. dozens of people don't have a place to stay braving the freezing cold. they're waiting for the shelter to open. budget constraints don't allow shemt terse to open until 7:00
at night. >> we made it clear that there's no staff for it. >> there should be someplace open 24 hours. i mean, what do he this do all night? >> for those who couldn't get a spot, the facility does work with other shelters to find a place for everyone to spend the night. >> meteorologist sheena parveen is backtracking the extreme cold and the snow coming for your weekend. sheena? >> tomorrow morning, chill temperatures in the single digits. here's what it feels like. 4 degrees in mount holly, coatsville probably a minus 1. wilmington feeling like 2 degrees. 14 degrees below skeer. actual temperatures near 23 degrees. by tomorrow morning we're not going to see too much of a difference here. still feeling like single digits and through the afternoon finally a little bit of relief but it will still be cold.
here's 8:00 a.m. here's the future feels like. mostly single digits out there and tomorrow afternoon rebounding to feel closer to 20 degrees. yes, still going to be very cold but at least not as brutal as the morning hours will be. then we go into the weekend. we're talking about the first alert for snow and wintry mix. this will be throughout the area saturday morning. lehigh valley you'll see this a little bit longer. the main time frame will be 11:00 p.m. friday through early saturday morning. what we do expect the on start of accumulating snow and that will be causing slippery roads. so if you have to be on the road early saturday because this is all going to rain. it will be very early. here's what it looks like now as we go into early saturday morning on future weather. 2:00 a.m. saturday.
into the poconos, lehigh valley, berks county. temperatures well below freezing. anything falling will be snow. then we go into 6:30 saturday morning. rain throughout parts of new jersey and delaware. the pink in new castle county, philadelphia, up into parts of burlington county would be an icy mix starting to challenge. warming with more of southwest winds. we have mid 20s. even our pennsylvania suburbs. 8:00 in the morning when people are starting to wake up, you'll already see the icing you're seeing now into the lehigh valley and berks county. still snowing in the poconos. by 11:30 all the temperatures warming enough to have only rain around. then we go into sunday. temperatures much milder and areas into the 60s. some could end briefly as snow for part of the area.

in tv news, i read that a a spinoff of the show "how i met your mother" is in the works called "how i met your father." [ light laughter ] in the first episode, the mom starts telling the story and the kids go, "yeah, dad already told us this." [ laughter and applause ] it took forever, by the way. some news for pet owners. veterinarians are warning people to be careful with alcohol they spill on the floor because there's been an increase in the number of drunk dogs. [ laughter ] >> "jimmy fallon stood there." >> jimmy: "yeah, jimmy stood over there." did you ever do live theater or anything? >> i started my career in live theater, actually. i was in kindergarten, and -- [ laughter ] >> jimmy: well, we all, yeah, of course. >> it was a good show. my school was called -- was named after rosa parks, you know, the -- >> jimmy: sure. >> great civil rights activist. and we -- i don't know why they -- but she found out about it. we were in massachusetts. she lived down in the south, and she actually came up. she was 70-something years old, and she came up to -- because she felt honored. she came to visit the school, and so we put on a little performance for her, and i was a lion. my -- what i had to do was run up to the front of the stage and roar and get off stage.
and it was going to be good. but my mane fell off. i had a mane. [ audience aws ] and it was at a -- like, my very first artistic, like, crisis, as a performer. and i felt like, "do i go back and pick up the mane? do i just go ahead and roar? will they know what i am if i don't have a mane?" like, wha -- >> jimmy: you just, like, an orange dude, yeah. >> yeah. [ roars ] >> jimmy: you're wearing a a onesie, yeah. >> yeah. >> jimmy: exactly, yeah. >> and so i went back, picked it up. i did the roar. i got off stage. and afterwards, rosa parks, like, patted me on the head and smiled at me. >> jimmy: no. >> which was pretty amazing. and then -- >> jimmy: really? >> so i've been, since then, my whole career has been trying to recapture that feeling of approval, and that's what i'm looking for. so it's not just about, like, being on "saturday night live." it's kind of about working through some early childhood trauma.
