jiet now on "nbc 10 news today," let's make it official. today the electoral college will officially cast its ballots nationwide. no time to waste. if you still have to go to the post office to send that holiday gift to your loved ones, today is the day to do it. unofficially over. the eagles loss their fifth straight and they're now out of playoff contention. "nbc 10 news" starts now. just after 5:30. good morning and welcome to "nbc 10 news today" this monday morning. i'm tracy davidson. >> and i'm katy zachry. thanks for joining us. let's get to meteorologist krystal klei. >> it's cold to start out in the morning. yesterday it was a totally different story. 50s, 60s on the map. not going to see that today. in fact, you're not going to see that at any point in today's
forecast. temperatures mostly in the 20s, some of us holding tight to the low 30s. 31 degrees vineland, atlantic city. philadelphia at 29 and alan town at 23. trenton right now at 26. mount pocono at 13 degrees. that's the actual temperature. look at the feels like conditions. they're improving slightly in areas like mount pocono now at 4. that meanings the winds have weakened just a bit. overall it's cold out there. 19 now when it feels like in philadelphia and in wilmington. 18 in coatsville and mount holly. notice where the winds are lighter. winds make a difference. they start to pick up. we feel colder than it truly is. radar and satellite for us. what we have is the rain sitting down to the now southeast of us. that line passed yesterday. and if we look farther to the west there's nothing heading our direction. we're going to stay on the dry side of things for at least several days after what was a very wet weekend. current winds talking about,
picking up at 15. 14 in allentown. looking at breezy conditions this morning. the winds should weaken a tad. light to breezy throughout the rest of monday. still very cold. temperatures do not rise much because of that cold front passage that has been funneling in cool air. in the days to come the numbers start to bounce back up though. in a few minutes we'll start to track that change and move through the next several days. all of that coming up in a bit. go to jessica boyington with traffic. >> 26 at pen rose avenue. no problems or delays moving through the intersection. a few cars heading out the door. backup, just a normal intersection and traffic. checking with the rest of the bridges, ben franklin bridge looks great. if you're moving over the walt whitman bridge clear there as well. hazardous roads on norristown and noble street and washington street. >> jessica, thanks for that update. we have breaking news now
we're firing. a fire at an assisted living facility in burlington county has forced dozens of people to evacuate the building. it broke out just within the last hour. the fire started in the basement utility room. they moved 70 people to another part of the building. there are so far no reports that anyone's been hurt. you can tap the "nbc 10" app and stay with us for updates throughout the morning. 5:34. 21 degrees outside. starting this morning electoral college voters will cast their ballots for their state's presidential choice. we could see some voters going in another direction. >> "nbc 10's" matt delucia is live for us. matt breaking it down and telling us how likely it is to happen. >> reporter: right. katy and tracy, even though hillary clinton won the popular vote, it is the electoral vote that counts. there have been a push by some to get electors not to vote the way they are supposed to. this is what the pennsylvania electors can expect to find today in harrisburg.
protesters calling on them to not vote for donald trump. things like this expected to play out around the country. today is the day the 538 electors will meet to cast their vote for president and vice president. donald trump needs 270 votes to win. the nbc news count has him with a 306 to 232 electoral vote lead over democratic challenger hillary clinton. more than three dozen electors would have to vote for someone else. that is not likely to happen and if it did, it would certainly be historic. president-elect donald trump taking on those trying to encourage knows so-called faceless electors. he tweeted this, if my many supporters acted and threatened people like those who lost the election are doing, they would be skornd and called terrible names. you might be asking yourselves if this has ever happened before. there have been faceless electors as they're called. last time there were more than two in one election was in 1832.
there needed to be 36 for this one. faceless voters to keep donald trump out of the white house. that is an extremely tall order. so it is not expected to happen. live in the digital operations center, matt delucia, "nbc 10 news." u.s. senators are calling for a special bipartisan panel to investigate cyber attacks. >> we're going to find out what the russians are doing to our political system, what others might do to our political system. >> we need to get to the bottom of this and find out what was done. >> intelligence sources have told nbc news u.s. officials believe that russian president vladimir putin is personally involved with trying to influence the u.s. elections. the cia concluded it was done to help mr. trump. >> more than half of americans are concerned. 55% say they are significantly bothered by the news that
hackers in connection with a foreign government to influence the election. casey? >> well, you don't need us to tell you this, but it is the monday before christmas, traditionally the busiest shipping day of the year for packages and other parcels. today is expected to be the busiest mailing day of the year. the postal service says this year could be even busier than last year. it's 5:45. we are following breaking news now. a fire at an assisted wlifg facility in burlington county has forced 70 people to evacuate. the fire broke out on north church street in moorestown. first responders helped move people who were living there to another part of the building. there are no reports yet that anyone has been hurt. you can tap the "nbc 10" app and stay with us throughout the morning for updates. new this morning, an arson investigation is focused on a house fire in camden county where a person was hurt last night. the fire broke out on cross feed road. medics took the victims to the hospital. we're still looking for updates including the person's condition. 5:46. keeping kids safe from lead poisoning in philadelphia. mayor jim kenney will break down the city's plan. the "nbc 10" investigator conducted two investigations into the city's lead problem. the investigators found that
philadelphia has one of the toughest lead laws in the country but that no one has been enforcing it. >> starting today in camden you can enjoy free meter parking through january 2nd. the annual freebie is a courtesy to try to encourage shopping and visits to camden. it's been a month since an 8-year-old philadelphia girl died in a hit-and-run crash. last night loved ones and neighbors in overbrook said prayers and released balloons. >> her family and friends held a vigil. the man police later tracked down and arrested in case will appear in court this week. her family said this is all so tough to take, especially with the holidays. >> i just want to thank you all for coming and showing support. she will always be missed. never be forgotten. >> paul woodland faces charges
of homicide by vehicle and involuntary manslaughter. 5:47. today is the deadline to sign up for health care for next year. the deadline was extended after a record number of people signed up for obamacare on thursday which was the original deadline. president-elect donald trump and the republican congress have vowed to repeal and replace the 2010 health care law. twhiel is the season of giving, the one thing you don't want to get is the flu. >> no. please, no. many school districts around the nation are seeing an yup particular in flu cases. in north carolina a whole school district shut down thursday and friday because of outbreaks of strep, pneumonia, and the flu. this month's flu cases are slightly up nationwide. the latest numbers show only 40% of adults have been vaccinated so far this season. doctors say fear of the needle should not stop you from getting protected. >> a lot of people didn't get vaccinated last year so a lot of
people double dipped. they got sick for a couple of weeks, then they got a little bit better, then they got sick again. >> last year the cdc estimates the flu vaccine protected 5 million people. that's roughly the population of the atlanta metro area. just about ten minutes before 6:00. let's get you out the door. if you enjoyed the warmer temperatures yesterday, you will not feel them this morning. >> we're back to normal, right? >> yeah, where we should be. kwo we're not going to feel those temperatures. yesterday in delaware they were in the mid 60s by the time we went off the morning show. those temperatures were very unseasonable. now we're back to more calm forecast, dry. we're not tracking rain and starting out chilly. 28 degrees in the philadelphia area. west mount 28 and 29 the official at the airport. 28 in bustleton as well for philly neighborhoods.
switch over and look at new jersey neighborhoods. turnersville at 29. audubon at 28. so most of us in the upper 20s. stevenson, mid 20s. prince ton at 24. hope well township at 25. nice big wide view from our radar and satellite. the rain rolled through. that big cold front, it is long gone. well to the east of us now. so we're not tracking rain in our forecast today. we do see some clouds, the deep white that you see. we're going to continue with some clouds overhead. it's not going to be a completely sunny day but it will be a good mix of sun and clouds in the forecast especially as we get later in the day. as you look to the west, there's nothing heading in our direction so we're going to stay dry for several days. more mild forecasts to kick off this work week and right ahead of the holiday forecast. unfortunately the temperatures, they really don't warm up. 34 degrees that temperature in
center city. westchester you're at 30 by this afternoon. you might see some of these numbers and say, that's where we are in an hour or two. the morning temperatures will dip to their lowest and then we'll proceed in climbing back up to low to mid 30s. 30 in alan town, easton the same with the mix of cloud and sun throughout the lehigh valley. delaware, it's about the same. 33 degrees, voorhees, hamilton at 32. a little bit warmer. i say warmer, still only in the mid 30s for cape may. christmas forecast across neighborhoods, looking at temperatures that actually really aren't bad for christmas day. if you were itching for a white christmas, not looking very likely. we may see showers move through across the boards. 50 in philadelphia. 44 in the lehigh valley, 50 along some of our shore points. talk about that ten day on ten. mild conditions i mentioned, we start to warm the temperatures up. low 40s tuesday, mid 40s tuesday
