weekend forecast for new year's eve. conditions for the most part will be pretty nice. not that bad, in fact. around average for this time of year. upper 30s for the lehigh valley. partly cloudy skies, 44 degrees for philadelphia. partly to mostly cloudy skies and mostly cloudy skies right around midnight. partly cloudy skies for sunday, 45 degrees is your expected high temperature for the 35 suburbs and new jersey seeing mid to upper 40s. overall, a pretty mild stretch. your new year's eve forecast, at 8:00 p.m. we're seeing partly cloudy skies, temperatures in the upper 30s. upper 30s by 10:00 p.m. and mid 30s by midnight. with mostly cloudy skies. here's francesca with traffic. >> thanks. we're watching the schuylkill expressway over in center city. our camera at the vine street expressway. i apologize it's a little dirty but you can see the traffic is moving rather nicely. travel speeds under 50s and 60s in center city. we also took a look at 95 as well as the rest of the schuylkill expressway. problem free.
also, problem free are the majors over in new jersey. 295, the new jersey turnpike, as well as the 42 freeway, you won't run into any issues, problems or delays, northbound for the philadelphia area on the 4 freeway. and for the most part we're doing pretty good this morning. when i come back we'll look at the blue route and another look at 95. back to you. >> thanks, francesca. a man and woman shot in philadelphia are in the hospital this morning. nbc 10 was on the scene at boudinot and courtland streets in feltonville. police tell us that's where the victims were wounded while sitting in a minivan. we are working to find out their present condition. police at this time have made no arrests. six days after an elderly store owner in south philadelphia was killed a suspect is in jail charged with her murder. police arrested maurice green. they say he gunned down 81-year-old marie buck in her grocery store on christmas eve. green told police buck's grandson stole a necklace from him that was worth $5,000 to $10,000.
they said green went to the store expecting to see the grandson but he wasn't there. last night people filed into a funeral home for buck's viewing. we spoke to the victim's brother-in-law before the service. >> i feel relieved but glad they got him but i'm all torn up. it's a horrible way to die. >> nbc 10 has learned this is not maurice green's first encounter with police. he has been arrested more than a dozen sometimes since 2005 for drug and theft charges. pennsylvania wants a deal after paying a fraction of the nearly $2 million legal bill for the state's e-mail pornography investigation. the state is trying to negotiate a settlement with the law firm that looked into the scandal. convicted former attorney general kathleen kane called for a report related to the investigation her successor bruce beemer released the report last month. some of the sexually explicit e-mails led to the firing or resignation of state prosecutors and judges but beemer says no inappropriate e-mails corrupted the justice system.
in other news this morning, a bucks county man accused of cheating russian citizens out of high-end cars at his auto dealership in north jersey. investigators say sergey kapustin stole nearly $2 million from people overseas. the victims say they sent him large amounts of money for used cars but the vehicles were never shipped or they had already been sold. kapustin is now charged with wire fraud. in atlantic county loved ones and friends say they cannot wait for a 5-year-old girl and her great grandmother to return home after both of them were found alive in rural virginia. 71-year-old barbara briley and her great granddaughter la'myra were stranded for days when their holiday road trip took a dangerous turn. the two left their home in mays landing on christmas eve on their way to see relatives in income fcc. -- north carolina. a man found them wednesday on his property in virginia. locals say it's easy to wind up lost. both family members are in the hospital at this time but
they're okay. some relatives are now with them. we caught up with the boyfriend of one of those relatives and he shared with us what the little girl said about the frightening ordeal. >> they walked out to try to find help and couldn't find no one there. they had to say there. >> la'myra was a little scared but la'myra, she's a tough girl. she's very bright, you know what i mean, smart. she stayed with her grandmother. >> a facebook post yesterday the family said their prayers have been answered. well, it's 5:36 on this friday. hopefully your new year's eve plans are coming together. you have a few more hours, right. >> yeah. yeah. just a little bit. in our opinion, penn's landing is the place to be as nbc 10 will be broadcasting fireworks live from the blue cross river rink. nbc 10's pamela osbourne is live for a preview. >> good morning. this is going to be a huge celebration and this is going to be the best spot to see those fireworks from. the best part about this event

i'm first alert meteorologist erika martin. satellite and radar image partly cloudy skies. look just to the northwest, we could see light flurries moving in. a little lake effect influence for parts of the lehigh valley. otherwise locally it is dry. we have a high pressure system pretty much dominating the area and this is why conditions will remain dry at least until next week. i'll get to that in just a bit. otherwise, conditions right now are pretty mild for philadelphia seeing mainly 30s. bustleton 36 degrees, 35 for parkwood, fox chase 35, chestnut hill, 33 degrees. west mt. airy 34 and society hill currently at 35. one degree warmer at 36 degrees. lehigh valley, for the most part staying slightly above the freezing mark. war renceville at 3. redding 33. fleetwood below the mark at 31, 33 for nazareth and walnut port, white hall at 34 degrees. the westerly winds, not
northwesterly but still getting a little push which is why it looks like we will see some flurries for parts of the lehigh valley. likely north ham lehigh county starting right now and then pausing this around noon. notice we're starting to see light blues and some whites there. again, this is not going to be a whiteout but i want to mention that roads, some reports of black ice up there. keep in mind a little bit more slick up there just because temperatures are a little closer to the freezing mark. any liquid from yesterday of course will freeze over. tracking the light flurries for this afternoon. otherwise for the most part remaining high and dry. so tomorrow, temperatures the last saturday of the year, seeing mainly upper 30s to low 40s. redding 42 degrees. notice we're seeing partly cloudy skies. by tomorrow night we will see mostly cloudy skies and conditions again will be mainly in the low 40s. phoenixville, 41 is your expected high temperature. newtown 43 for you and overnight lows mainly in the 20s. philadelphia seeing pretty mild temperatures, 44, mt. airy 42.

>> the people behind us, they are against the project saying it would be built on sacred burial ground. the group wants to stop the lingo project at gills neck road in lewes, delaware. it was approved this month. the protesters believe the project will ruin water in the area and disrupt the sacred native american burial ground. they say this protest is just the beginning. >> we need to respect and cherish the native american culture and history of delaware. >> the sussex county council president responded to the protests saying native americans have never proved the land is a burial ground. 135 police officers across the country have died in the line of duty in 2016. that is the highest number of officer deaths in five years. according to the national law enforcement officers memorial fund, 64 officers were shot and killed, 21 were ambushed, the group says guns were responsible for the majority of the deaths. other officers lost their lives
due to traffic accidents or job related illnesses like heart attacks. six of the fallen officers were women. >> there is a growing disrespect for the rule of law in this country. i think numbers we're reporting today are evidence of that. >> texas has the highest number of officer deaths of any state this year with 17. in our region three officers died in pennsylvania, one of them at the greater correctional institute in montgomery county, two state troopers died in south jersey. no deaths in delaware. this morning a follow-up to a story we first told you about wednesday morning. an 8-year-old north jersey boy was kicked out of the cub scouts for being transgender. now the leader of another scout group is petitioning the regional cub scouts council to see if he can rejoin. joe maldanado was born a girl but identifies as a boy and attended scouts about a month before he was asked to leave. in a statement earlier this
month the new jersey council said its programs are for those who are identified as boys on their birth certificate. about a 5:45 this morning. one of the nation's largest food companies is sharing bounty with needy families in north jersey. >> goya foods donated $10,000 to the shelter in newark for the holidays. goya is the largest hispanic owned food supplier in the u.s. the contribution went to toys and clothing for kids who don't have a home but did have a christmas. >> football, basketball, got shoes. >> let me see those shoes. show those shoes. you like those shoes? >> yeah. >> it's a holiday but for them, it's a joyous occasion. >> goya will donate $10,000 a month to several family shelters and food pantries. all right. great news there. hopefully when we bring in erika martin, she has good news to share with us.
>> even better. >> on the weather front. all-important weekend forecast. >> this is like the most important weekend of the year here. of course last saturday, first sunday of the next year. it looks really good. the only thing, we have clouds but it will be dry. that's great. last week we saw cooler temperatures and now rosemary and katy, looks like we will see four days and overnight lows in the 30s. lot warmer there. live look outside however, penn's landing, this looks fun. i have yet to ice skate. i will get there probably this weekend. i'm a really good ice skater. you will see your local neighborhood forecast. partly cloudy skies rice rite now. your weekend forecast what you can expect on saturday and sunday. expected high temperature pretty much in the upper 30s to low 40s, jersey shore 42 for you. on sunday nicely, jersey shore and jersey seeing 50s, upper 40s for everybody else. now looks like a really nice
trend for a couple days. it's not going to be as chilly as the earlier models hinted at. your mummers new year's day parade outlook, temperatures will be pretty much in the 30s at 8:00 a.m. 46 at 2:00 p.m. southwesterly winds raging between 10, 15 miles per hour. a mix of sun and clouds, certainly pretty nice day. satellite and radar image picking up on partly cloudy skies. seeing mid and upper level clouds at most right now and we will get some lake effect flurries moving into parts of lehigh valley. otherwise, the pa suburbs seeing mainly 30s. exton 34, mall vern 34 for you, and milford township 33 degrees. so we have this easterly wind right now and notice that temperatures are pretty mild, lumberton at 34, robbinsville 34 and florence also seeing mid 30s. so as we take a look farther south at jersey shore, seeing slightly warmer temperatures, not that much.
upper township at 37, atlantic city 37 with cape may courthouse and cape may point at 39 degrees. your ten-day on ten, looks really good, especially to end this year. so temperatures are going to be in the mid 40s tomorrowp we have partly to mostly cloudy skies. fireworks should not be an issue as far as visibility is concerned. developing clouds, tracking showers on monday into tuesday and then also tracking some showers and possibly some snow later next week. that's for 2017. we'll save that for next year. temperatures will be a lot cooler by the end of next week. we're seeing low 30s by saturday and mid 30s by the following sunday. back to you. >> erika, thanks for that. about ten minutes before 6:00 on friday. we have a traffic alert to tell you about. >> we knew the smooth traffic was going to come to an end. francesco ruscio takes a look at what's happening on route 202. >> katy, rosemary, we are seeing a report of road closures due to an accident, nor risttown at

we use our phones for virtually everything. why not add paying parking meters to the list. drivers in wilmington could soon get to do that. the word after a new study shows old parking meters are costly to maintain. the study shows between 2013 and 2015, the city shelled out nearly $120,000 to keep up the
meters. a lot of times coins jam up the machines. wilmington's director of transportation says it's the goal for them, but a clear plan needs to be laid out first. in wisconsin people are hailing a surgeon for performing a two-part operation. the first procedure involved a little boy. take a look at his second act. the doctor performed surgery on the boy's favorite stuffed animal. the hospital says the staff often does this kind of thing to make sure a child feels comfortable about the surgery they're undergoing. when the boy woke up he got to share his recovery with his best friend. how sweet. >> very sweet. the famous mummers parade is this sunday. >> but a group of mummers women matched door to door to homeless and women's domestic violence shelters. the wives, daughters and nieces of some of the philadelphia mummers delivering hope to abused or less fortunate women. it's an idea born on pinterest to stuff a gently used
