right now at 11. sharing their grief. tonight, a small town is saying good-bye to the 26 people it lost inside a texas church. i'm jacqueline london. >> i'm jim rosenfield. this vigil honored the victims who range in age from 77 years old to the unborn. >> now investigators are revealing that a mistake by the military helped the accused shooter get his gun. >> nbc10 denise nakano is following all the latest developments from the breaking news center. >> records show the gunman should have never been able to legally own the gun he used in the church massacre. and tonight we have learned that an air force officer failed to put his domestic violence court file into a data base that would have barred him from buying weapons. >> reporter: a vigil to remember

the victim of the texas church mess massacre. about half killed were children. the youngest just 18 months old. another only i've. witnesses are horrified by what they saw. >> one of the vilkts came running from inside. and came running across the street. and he was running like this. he had blood all over his arms and face. >> reporter: in just minute. he lost three generations. including his son and his wife car la. gunned down while they prayed. >> this video showing a previous service inside the church. a tiny room barely a place o hide. the churches pastor and his wife lost their wife too. >> she was surrounded yesterday by her church family that she lofed fiercely. >> reporter: there are the

stories of the people who tried to stop the gunman. >> we were chasing him until the shooter lost control. of the vehicle. >> reporter: he was found dead inside ending his own life. in a town where no one locks their doors, population about 700. the loss is staggering. >> a few of us that are left behind lost tragically yesterday. >> the sheriff says nearly everyone who was at the church was either hurt or killed. half of the 20 people wounded remain in critical condition. >> local churches tell nbc10 that made security a much bigger priority. ever since the shooting at a charleston church in 2015. it can be a difficult balance between being welcoming and making parishioners feel secure. >> i pray that we don't get to that type of place and have to be metal detecters.

walk away with his money in 30 seconds. he decided to fight back. >> when he shot the gun. it made me angry. it's like i get into like a rage. like when you have an angry dog. >> reporter: that thief fired his gun. but missed. a photo shows a bullet on the store ground. they wrestled before the robber ran out the front door. the restaurant has been there since 204 and never had any issue. it's now been robbed twice in the last six months. >> he's not going to shock me or make me scared or have a phobia. he makes me feel stronger. >> they don't believe both of the robberies are connected. the gunman yesterday he walked inside this shop around 8:48. heft wearing a great hooded sweatshirt. also that spider man mask. he remains on the run tonight. in the hee high valley.

candles and flowers fill this home in allen town. after a mother of four was shot and killed with her kids just feet away. she was shot and killed outside her home early sunday morning. police arrested and charged her boyfriend with her death. the victim 17 year-old daughter was also shot. she is recovering in the hospital. new information tonight on a popular philadelphia rapper going back to jail. today a judge sentenced meek mill to two to four years in prison for violating probation. this stems from a decade old gun and drug case. robert williams failed a drug test and didn't follow the court order that restricted travel. his lawyer says he will appeal the sentence. new details on the child porn scandal surrounding a local leader. after weeks of pressure, phillip are has resigned from the board of commissioners. >> tonight. more disturbing allegations have come to light. nbc10 brandon hudson is live

now new at 11. a crash involving a police officer is bringing traffic to a standstill. on route 2 in new ark. over the scene just moments ago. the officer was taken to the hospital but is expected to be okay. we are working to find out what caused the crash. >> investigators say the body of a woman found in cob croak last week was a missing art student. now police are trying to find out who killed her. 21 year-old johnson was found face down in cobs creek near spruce street friday. she had been strangled. it doesn't appear the body had been there very long. >> the woman akdsed of killing a businessman sobbed as she faced a judge today. prosecutors say 33 year-old killed 64 year-old michael mcnew. after he ended their relationship. mcnew was found shot to death in his home. back in august. authorities say morse staged a break in to try to cover up the crime. then buried his cell phone and

maybe even parts of the lee high valley. and we get rain akrsz the area. we get heier rain in south jersey and delaware the snow changes to rain. look it keeps going on wednesday. highs will struggle to make the 50s. and by wednesday afternoon, the rain kind of fades away. and then thursday we get the sunshine back. look at the morning lows on thursday. they'll be even colder on friday morning, and saturday morning. it is going to be quite chilly to end the week. 52 tomorrow. we could see rain in the afternoon. and snow showers. 53 for your wednesday. we could see a shower in the morning. maybe lingering into the afternoon across south jersey and delaware. 55 on thursday. 48 on friday. that morning we'll soo 38 in philadelphia. saturday 47. we could hit the freezing mark. saturday morning in philadelphia. and 54 on sunday.
