welcome to n"nbc 10 news today." i'm vai sikahema. >> i'm tracy davidson. i checked the nbc 10 weather app. it's 1 degree here krystal klei. i know you're tracking rain and snow for super bowl sunday. tell us what the philadelphia area will get today. >> we warned that you it would be cold there, right? it's a big difference for us. we're talking rain more than snow. but this morning, we're around freezing. nothing is falling in our area yet though. we have the cloudy conditions and not too far to the west, we see white snow trying to make it to the ground. not a lot yet is doing so. but it's going to as we progress later into the morning. then this starts to make it to us. all of that rain you see, especially the areas in yellow, orange, red, that's heavy rain. it's going to pump our direction. it's going to turn pretty much our entire region over to rainy conditions this afternoon and two tonight. meaning as you drive for the super bowl parties, you'll have to take it kind of slow and have
the wipers on full blast. temperaturewise, we're around freezing for the most part. 34 in atlantic city. 32 in philadelphia. we're at 30 in reading and allentown. this is good that we're already close to freezing as we see that temperature rise the next few hours, that will push us above freezing and help with us seeing rain instead of snow and ice. mostly in the north and west neighborhoods, we have a morning concern. we have snow approaching the area. from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 in the afternoon, temperatures are still close to freezing. particularly in the upper portions of the suburbs and the lehigh valley and berks county. may get slick and icy on roadways. and when the rain comes to an end kocoming up. >> krystal, thank you. today is the day. it's here. we're a little more than 12 hours away from the eagles going for super bowl glory.

to eagles fans who have been flocking here to mall of america. we're expecting more to arrive in the next few hours or so. the vegas odd makers, they do not like the birds. they've got tom brady and the patriots by 4 1/2 points. we've been talking to fans all week from all over the country. they are clearly behind the eagles from coast to coast. we caught up with fans from iowa and texas, both of them birds fans who say they believe in the eagles. take a listen. >> back in the '80s randall cunningham and buddy ryan defense, just philly strong. >> just one ring and i'll be happy. put everybody in their place. we've been underdogs all i'm not even lying. >> by the way, both those guys from iowa and texas have never been to philadelphia. they say after the super bowl they're going to visit the city of brotherly love for the first time. by the way the mall of america, as more fans come over, they're putting up brand new displays. they have a locker room display
with the wentz and ertz jerseys. it's going to be an incredible game. we're going to see tons of fans flocking here as an indoor tailgate because it's so cold outside. >> and fans flood this place. the last few days, fans have just been everywhere. this has been a sea of green. a lot of people are already here. there are a lot of people who are still cutting it close leaving this morning heading for minneapolis. >> borns is there. an early wakeup call for people headed to minneapolis. there are two flights at 7:00 a.m., a third flight at 8:00 a.m. this morning. staff at the airport doing their
part to pump up some of the passengers as they head out this morning. the fans that are going, they are already eagles energized. >> eagl-a-g-l-e-e-a-g-l-e-s, ea! >> reporter: it's never too early for an eagles chant in the middle of the airport. that's how pumped fans are for the super bowl tonight. everyone is showing up in eagles green. there's no secret about what they're doing or what the birds are going to do when they get there tonight. >> i was there in '04 in jacksonville against new england as you all know. we did not win. but we will today. we definitely will win today. >> reporter: look at that commitment there. you can see some green hair as people start making their way through security this morning. all right. a lot of people are traveling to the super bowl today. but we talked to a family of 12, that's right, 12 people representing three different generations from one family.

good morning. let's talk about the snow and rain time. i'm krystal klei. we're starting out around 10:00 a.m. to noon with mostly the north and west neighborhoods seeing snow, possibly ice/slush mixture falling. it's the morning hours, getting outrunning errands in the neighborhoods, take it easy as you're driving. by noon through 4:00 p.m., rain spreads. we're talking through the rest of the viewing area, as well as into the north and west neighborhoods. so turning over to rain in those locations which will help to melt down slick spots. as you head to the parties, also
take it slow and as i've been saying, windshield wipers at full blast. as you head home, hopefully it exits the area. still wet roadways out there. let's take a look at the planner as we start our day. if you have plans before you get ready for the game, 8:00 a.m., around freezing in philadelphia. but we get to 40 around noontime. we should make it to mid-40s for highs. even though the rain is moving through, winds are coming from the south. that allows us to warm up more so than we would yesterday. in the suburbs, 36 at your lunchtime and around the mid-30s at noontime in the lehigh valley. it's again going to lead to snow falling. it turns over to rain by 4:00. for delaware, new jersey, the shore, temperatures quickly into the mid-40s with a rainy forecast this afternoon. we'll be right back.

as you head out the door today. this is an active weather forecast for us. a lot of people will be headed out the door. the rain jacket, maybe something warmer. it is cold this morning. right around freezing. make sure the umbrella is on hand. it gets heavy afternoon into early evening. of course, you should have chips and dip and everything that's green if you're going to be out today. otherwise, you're going to get kicked out of store. you got to wear green today. radar and satellite, this is the wide view we have. there's so much going on here. yesterday, we mentioned first the snow will approach us. then a lot of moisture from the southwest is going to pump our direction. it's going to turn into offshore low. that is going to drive in the heavy rain for this afternoon. let's run through the hour by hour model for us here. we start with the morning hours. this is when we have some concerns north and west. as we were mentioning, snow starts about 10:00 a.m. the models seem consistent on
that. been returns on radar, but not making it to the surface yechlt around 10:00, 11:00, aim, we head to berks county. overnight, we were below freezing. yesterday below freezing. we're going to be cold. through lunchtime, that snow dips into parts of bucks, montgomery, chester county. philadelphia could see a few flakes approaching the noon hour. quickly, with the south wind, we pump it up into the 40s. then everything turns over into rain. by 2:00, 3:00, that should pull out to lehigh and berks county. be wary of slippery spots in the northernmost edge of the viewing zone. about the time you'd driving to the party, take caution, use the wipers and drive responsibly as you go out today. mid to upper 40s further to the
south. we stick with the 40s through 8:00 when the heaviest rain on this model presses through. by around 11:00 p.m. or so, looks like the rain will be exiting. this is about the time i expect the game to wrap up. wet roadways even if you don't have to see the rain coming down are still likely. still a slick drive out there. through tomorrow morning, now we're dry. but because temperatures have fallen below freezing, there could be slippery spots since we're getting so much rain. so just want to run through this again. berks county, even the suburbs, about 10:00 a.m. through 3:00 is when you may see slipperiness on cold roads. take it easy. hey, in minneapolis, if you're curious what our friends are dealing with. 4 degrees around kickoff time this

kickoff to super bowl lii. call to the hall. the eagles are celebrating two of their biggest names now enshrined in the pro football hall of fame. >> last chance. fans had a few more opportunities to get on a flight to see their beloved eagles in the big game. as we've been talking about, just be here for the big celebration. maybe not even get into the game. i'm tracy davidson at mall of america. >> i'm vai sikahema 6:30 on this sunday morning. seems like that nfc championship game was a month or two ago. we're tracking rain and a bit of snow for super bowl sunday. you could run into slippery spots if you're headed out the door, to stock up on gameday essentials. krystal klei is tracking it all for us. >> you're right. this is an active day for our weather. unfortunately, it's on a day when so many people will be out and about. let's look at radar and
satellite. we've got a fairly quiet picture. what was the return on radar an hour or two ago was not making it to the ground. but it shows us that the atmosphere is cold enough to support snow currently. there's a little more that's barely to the west trying to make its way to us. this morning, there's a chance in the north and west neighborhoods of light snow. the better chance, that comes for rain in the afternoon, right on into the evening. at times, look at this. that yellow, orange, red near atlanta, it's heavy rain that is falling and moving our direction. we are looking at a wet forecast coming this afternoon. temperatures up against the freezing line. 30 in allentown and reading. 32 in philadelphia. this is a good thing. because we're going to go up some. we have south wind and it pumps in warmer air. we're going to push above freezing. that's why the focus is mostly rain instead of snow across the region. look at the trend here.
we're into the mid-40s this afternoon. but for the north and west neighborhoods during the morning hours when some of that snow falls, it could be a little slippery. coming up in a few minutes, here. people are going to be cold waiting in line to get into that stadium for super bowl sunday. it's here. >> it's hard to believe it's actually here. eagles fans have been waiting for this day for 13 years. 2005 is the last time they were at the big game. they're hoping that it ends with a big win against the new england patriots. the birds, they had a light day of work yesterday. they took buses to u.s. bank wh not. the owner was there. he's hoping to lift of the lombardi trophy tonight while the confetti falls on the winning team. >> now we're hours away from super bowl lii. we're down to hours. >> it's amazing. here are the two starting quarterbacks and what they will be thinking as they step on to the field tonight. >> i know at that moment, it

good morning. first alert meteorologist krystal klei here. if you're heading out, grabbing the final ingredients for the awesome snacks you're making for the game tonight, about 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 this afternoon, the lehigh valley and berks county and pennsylvania suburbs, upper box into chester county, a snow/ice mix before it turns over to rain. as that falls on to cold roads, even if it has turned to rain early on, you could get the slippery or icy spots. we want to give you that heads
up. there's a winter weather advisory in effect. into this evening, it's just rain. temperatures will be in the 40s. some of the heavier rain comes in by 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. so prep for heavy rain as you're driving, meaning just take it slow. by end of game at 11:00 p.m., most of the rain will fizzle out and still be above freezing. in the suburbs, down to 36 degrees by end of game. and really close to the freezing mark for the lehigh valley, berks. we're weary of slippery spots, especially in the early afternoon much even into the evening. the rain ebds by 11:00 p.m. could see a lingering shower south jersey delaware to the shore. the heaviest rain falls around the time you head to the parties. notice all temperatures are well above freezing in the 40s this afternoon. we'll talk more about what to expect. extended into your workweek, coming up with the ten-day on

sunday. in addition to that breaking news, we're keeping close track of the first alert neighborhood weather. meteorologist krystal klei is watching for a soggy super bowl sunday. fill us in, krystal. >> that's right. we've got a lot going on for a super bowl sunday in terms of the weather. take a look at the view. cloudy picture. much different from the quiet and is up i puck turf yesterday. this is why. snow is approaching the area. the focus is down to the southwest. that area of heavy rain is moving our direction. it's going to move perds of hea rain by this afternoon. take a look at the high temperatures today. the good news is because it's a south wind we're dealing with right now, temperatures are going above freezing. 44 for the high in philly. 43 in south jersey. look at the lehigh valley. look at these areas, rain/snow mix mixture is possible. you may run into slick or slippery spots. giving you that warning if you're headed to the grocery
store. to 10:00 a.m., the light snow falling over berks county, lehigh valley and the poconos. look at the temperatures here. we're already too warm to support snow farther south but we may see the flakes and icier spots in those north and west neighborhoods. this is right through 11:30 in the morning. rain approaching philadelphia. could we start with a few flakes in philly, yes. everything will melt as it makes it to surface. the only problem is, we were below freezing last night and yesterday. the roads are cold. that's why you may run into issues. here's the good news. the south wind pumps the temperatures up in the afternoon. that rain line starts to wedge farther to the north. by 2:00 to 3:00. the turnover to rain even in the lehigh valley and berks county. 5:00, you're headed to the game. there are periods of heavy rain passing through. this does continue right through 8:00 p.m. the heaviest rain starts to exit between 9:00 and 11:00 at night. we should start to dry out. but get cold again into your monday morning.
so slippery spots again possible with refreeze that we experience with that rain. again, the heaviest rain hits right about the time that people will be driving to parties. snow potential. it's looking like it will be maybe a tenth of an inch at best over upper bucks and montgomery county. half an inch to an inch possible in lehigh valley and berks. 3 inches into the poconos. that rain pushes in later in the day to the lehigh valley and berks. that will melt down and slush down any of the3/4 of an inch t an inch of rain. farther south, half an inch of rain. aside from delaware where the amounts may be higher. it does mean there will be ponding on roadways. drive responsibly today and tonight on the way home. a look at the ten-day on 10. 44 for us today. rocking the green. 46 tomorrow. the morning we could see slick spots. still on that roller coaster. 40s tuesday to wednesday with rain returning. then the cooldown. may see a mix thursday morning and we'll repeat that chance again come next weekend. we'll be right back. right now.
