chase utley's aggressive attempt to break up a double play left ruben tejada with a broken leg and left utley with a two-game suspension. janelle burrell is live from citi field. >> reporter: good morning to you dick and mary. with that appeal pending chase utley could very well be playing here at citi field later tonight. if he does he can expect lots of boos and taunting from mets fans with the series now tied 1-1. >> tejada is down, the game is tied and now we check on tejada. >> it's the replay that has many mets fans cringing ruben tejada down after what many say was an ugly move by chase utley. >> an ugly way to take him out. that's all right. >> today we may see whether utley's two game suspension will be over turned. during
national league division series umpires ruled utley's slide legal but major league baseball disagreed issuing the suspension. >> i lost a pretty good player, a big piece of the puzzle i'm not happy. >> it has couples at odds. >> i hope the dodgers will take the rest of the series. >> this is going to motivate the mets. >> sunday the ground crews made final preps to citi field for what will be the mets ever playoff field at the facility. >> reporter: and mets issued a statement saying they believe the suspension is valid and that they want it to be upheld. meanwhile, the dodgers are supporting utley with his appeal. the game is scheduled to start right here tonight just

35,000 marchers will travel in celebration of italian-american contributions. >> thank you very much. new this morning, fire claims a life on staten island. crews were called in just before midnight to a six story building at the mariner harbor houses. the fire was in a 2nd floor apartment. a 37-year-old man was found unconscious and later pronounced dead at richmond university medical center. no word on a cause of the fire has been released. an investigation is underway into the death of a woman whose body was found in a queens park. it was discovered near golden street in flushing. police say the victim had multiple slash wounds. no word yet on her identity. no arrests so far. new information of an attempt ed ed abduction caught on camera in connecticut. 38-year-old twanda randall is under arrest for assaulting a
he was walking to school when the suspect pulled up and offered her a ride. she was sexual assaulted before jumping from the car. she was also charged with reckless endangerment. the search is on for a hit and run driver that left a new jersey college student fighting for her life. she was found on the side of 46 in clifton. hazel sanchez spoke to her friends. >> she's a great person. >> family friends of montclair state university student anna semioli are decembercember -- desperate to find answers, trying to find who hit 22-year-old semioli with their vehicle and left her critically injured on the side of the highway. >> it's not right what they did to her and left her there. it's not right. >> it happened just before midnight thursday. semioli was
valley road exit where vehicles frequently make pit stops for fast good or gas. >> semioli was supposed to meet up with people on campus that night. police found her car on school property. >> her car was there but she was found miles away from her car. it doesn't make sense. we know anna and we know that she wouldn't be walking at midnight on a highway. >> i feel like there could be something suspicious from this. it could be foul played. >> based on her injuries it's likely that semioli was hit by a large vehicle like an suv. she remains in a coma where she's surrounded by loved ones. >> we're hoping for a miracle and hoping this horrible mystery can get solved and justice will be served. >> police are urging any witnesses to come forward.
semioli's family is now offering a $10,000 cash reward for information leading to the arrest of the driver. in clifton new jersey, hazel sanchez, cbs 2 news. a bronx woman is sharing her story of survival as she recovering from a brutal attempted robbery in the bronx. surveillance cameras captured the attack by three men in the longwood section saturday morning. it happened on tipton avenue and east 131st street. the 60-year-old woman said she was returning home from a casino trip when she was put in a choke hold and someone tried to rip her purse from her arms. she doesn't want her identity revealed. >> how are you feeling? >> i'm not feeling good. my body hurts, my feet hand. -- my feet hurt. they broke man hands. they try to take my purse. i tried to say i don't have no money. >> no arrests have been made in the case. now to campaign 2016.
lead in the race for the republican presidential nomination. trump has the support of 27% of gop voters with ben carson at 21% followed by ted cruz, marco rubio and jeb bush. on the democratic side hilary clinton continues to lead with 46%. she's followed by bernie sanders at 27%, potential candidate joe biden comes in 3rd at 16%. the man that's trying to succeed on president obama appeared on 60 minutes last night. steve cross asked the president about a $500 foiled failed program to equip syrians in the battle against isis. >> part of what we have to do here, steve, is to try different things because we also have partners on the ground that are invested and interested in seeing some sort of resolution to this problem. >> and they wanted you to do it? >> that's not what i said. i think it is important for us to

d -- excited about this afternoon. let's check in with our early rising weather watchers and see what's going on on this holiday monday. a lot of temperatures in the 40s and 50s. as we start in new jersey this is david in boene and said it's 55 degrees where he is. this is daniel in green wood lake and he said it's 45 degrees and the stars are out and it's clear and cold. it's cold if you head to our far north and west suburbs. it's definitely cold. chilly morning with clear skies and twinkling stars above. let's see what's going on. we have just completely clear skies. there's just not much going on. 58 degrees, winds out of the west at 5 miles per hour, that humidity is at 64%. take a look at some temperatures. for the
most part we're going from 40 we are at 58 in central park. that's one of the warm spots usually. temperatures not that bad this morning especially compared to yesterday. things were cold yesterday. today not so much. your hour by hour forecast is looking better. temperatures at 2:00 when we hit our high should be around 74 degrees. that puts us well above where we should be for this time of the year. your satellite and radar pretty much telling what the weather watchers told you, clear skies, great for star gazing. there's not a lot to talk about. we will see an increase in cloud cover later today and then a chance to see rain as early as tonight. so this is sort of the set up right now. this is what it does for our future cast, turning it on today. as we head through 1:00 not a lot to talk about. mostly that sunshine. as we head into the over night hours shortly after midnight we start to see the clouds move in. we will watch a front move

we're waiting to find out if a shooter is possibly in custody. we can tell you that three women are in critical condition according to police. they were all shot here on east 21st street. we just got on scene and we'll stay here and make sure to keep you updated as we learn more. ilana gold, cbs 2 news. >> thank you. on monday watch futures are down so far this morning. last week was a winner for the dow. the index rose 583 points between monday and friday. nasdaq added 19 and s&p rose by 1.5. lyft is partnering with hertz to try to get more drivers on the road. drivers will be able to rent a car from hertz and get a discount. there's millions of drivers that could can drive for the company but can't because they don't have a vehicle. it may be coming here
next. it looks like social security checks won't be any larger next year. cost of living has barely budged due mostly to a big decline in gas prices. it's just to third time in 40 years the benefits likely won't rise for social security recipients, veterans and retirees. it effects 1/5 of all americans. in you're traveling on southwest airlines today you're going to want to get to the airport very early. the airline is saying give yourself 2 extra hours before departure. a technical issue is forcing the counter to check in passengers earlier. that's causing long lines and delays. >> they haven't told us how long the wait the yet. i don't know if we're going to make our flight. >> nobody is telling you anything. >> about an hour in the express line and it has not moved in 30
minutes. >> the problems began yesterday morning delaying at least 450 flights. southwest has not said what caused the problem. charles schumer wants to hit volkswagen with the maximum fine responsible over the emissions testing scandal. he is calling on the eps and justice department to fine them $18 million. they have come under fire of manipulating emissions tests during inspections to pass epa standards. >> the company hijacked the trust of hundreds of thousands of consumers, thousands of dealers and knew it all along. what volkswagen did is so bad, is so unprecedented that no fine is too much. >> schumer said drivers who purchased the car should receive a portion of the settlement amount as a rebate.

an intruder got more than he bargained for when he decided to break into a house. karen dolly saw the man standing in her hallway and she said she knew what she had to do. >> i could see the guy standing right about here and i came at him and started punching like this and said get out, get out, get out. >> that wasn't the only thing. she took out a japanese sword, held it to his throat until the police arrived. the woman is trained in medieval combat. the man didn't put up a fight, he apologized. >> he better apologize. he better not mess with her.
let's get to weather and traffic on the 2s. >> no medieval combat here, just some sunshine and some nice decent temperatures. this columbus day is shaping up to be the best day of this three day weekend. take a look at these current temperatures. 58 degrees in the park, 53 woodmere. your hour by hour forecast shows by noon we're close to 70 degrees which is well above where we should be. at 2:00 we're hitting our high temperature of 74. very pleasant, very mild. as we head into tomorrow we might be looking at some rain but this afternoon looking good for this columbus day. monday we're talking about temperatures for the most part the upper 60s, low 70s across the tri-state area, tons of sunshine, but all in all a very nice day. couldn't ask for a better day, especially if you have the day off. >> thank you.

a pig was found wandering around yesterday. the suffolk county spca captured the 125 pound animal after it escaped its home earlier this week. the spca said the pig was friendly and posed no danger to the public. they safely returned it to its owner. >> how about that? you don't see that kind of stuff around here. >> so we need a great forecast for today. we have the parade

shooting and we're still waiting to find out if this shooter is in custody. we've been talking to people out here for the last few minutes. they were near by at the time. they describe the scene as total chaos. >> what did you hear or see? >> i heard about six or seven loud what seemed to be -- i was in disbelief but what seemed to be gunshots at the time. when i have got closer you could hear the yelling and screaming. i was hoping it was a fight until reality hits you and you see people on the ground. it was mayhem. >> reporter: back out here live police are investigating outside of a nightclub here on east 21st street where three women were shot early this morning. we're still gathering details on this breaking story. live in the flat iron district, ilana gold, cbs 2 news.

reporting live this morning from citi field, jenelle burrell. new this morning, surveillance video released of a robbery suspect in brooklyn. he have road up to a woman on a bicycle yesterday morning on atlantic avenue and grabbed her handbag. when a man tried to stop him he pull add gun and road off. someone threw a bottle at two students. it happened around 1:30 friday morning at the corner of west 27th and 19 avenue. they were visiting local jewish owned businesses encouraging good deeds as part of their religious work. >> i expect this thing to happen in 2015 and it happened in new york city. >> the young man translating was not involved. the two students are attending a 1-year

don't have that information right now. they're still looking into the circumstances behind this triple shooting. there was a fight inside this club early this morning that spilled on to the sidewalk and the shooting happened just seconds later. we just talked to man who was down the block when this happened. he said he heard six gunshots and when he got closer he heard the chaos. >> there were people running in all p different directions and just, you know, screaming let's get out of here. you know -- >> have you ever seen anything like that in this area? >> this is crazy for 21st and broadway. it's surprising. >> reporter: so people are deft definitely alarmed by this shooting outside of the motivo nightclub. three women are in the hospital after getting shot

she was struck just before midnight along route 46 east near the valley road exit. semioli is a junior at montclair state. her car was on the school property a mile from where she was discovered. >> her car was there but she was found miles away from her car. it just doesn't make sense. you know, we know anna and we know that she wouldn't be walking at midnight on a highway. >> anna's family is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the driver. a bronx woman is sharing her story of survival as she recovers from a brutal teamed robbery in the bronx. surveillance cameras captured the attack by three men in the long wood section. it happened on tipton and east 161st street just before 3:00 a.m. the 60-year-old said she was returning home from a casino trip when she was put in a choke hold and someone tried to rip her purse from her arm. she doesn't want her identity
revealed. >> how are you feeling? >> not good. my body hurts, my feet hurt, they have broken my hands. they tried to take my purse. i said i don't have money, i don't have money and they left running. >> no arrests have been made in the case. new information in an attempted abduction. 38-year-old twiana randall of new haven is under arrest charged with sexual assaulting a teenage girl who jumped from a moving car in bridge port last month. the victim told police she was walking to school when the suspect pulled up and offered her a ride. once inside she said she was sexual assaulted before jumping from the car. ran dam was also chained with inlawful restraint and reckless endangerment. a long island mother needs your help finding a member of her family. >> she's lost here. >> their dog runs away after a frightening storm. why he plays an important role in her son's

a high school football field in washington state looked more like a lake after heavy rain over the weekend. there were two powerful storms. the first powerful rain created a water flow down the steps into the bowl. fallen leaves covered the storm drains that caused the weather to rise fast. let's get to weather and traffic on the 2s here. we have a nice day, elise. >> we do. it's shaping up to be a beautiful day. today will be better because it's ship ping up to be warmer. let's check in with weather watchers right now and see what kind of temperatures we're seeing out there. definitely warmer right now than this time yesterday.
but a lot of low 50s as well. michael on staten island said it's 50 degrees there. it is gina in yonkers and she said it's 52 there. some temperatures in the 40s, 10 degrees cooler north of that. this is adam in middle town and it's 42 degrees where he is. so temperatures all over the place. in some places it's a chilly start to the day that's for sure. however, we know that things will warm up very, very nicely. so we're at 57 degrees right now in central park, we have clear skies, things looking good out there. other temperatures around the area just to give you an idea, 37 as we head into jeffersonville, 43 middle town, 50 terry town. so temperatures kind of all over the place. upper 30s to the upper 50s. like a 20 degree swing depending on where you are. things warm up so nicely into the afternoon. we've got the clear skies. into 2:00 lots of sunshine, expecting a high of 74 degrees. that puts us well above where we should be for
this time of the year. i would say a very nice columbus day by anybody's standards. now pollen report. it's a 2.7 today. that puts in the low to immediate -- medium range. the predominant pollen is ragweed. you could have issues if you're an allergy sufferer. we have lots of sunshine, nice mild temperatures. i don't think you can have too many complaints. tomorrow temperatures remain mild but we see the return of rain drops. not a huge soaking but a chance to see rain throughout the day on tuesday and then on the backside of that system temperatures cool down for your wednesday, thursday and friday. cooler still into the weekend. so today mostly sunny and 74 degrees. warmer today than yesterdays. tonight we're at 59 degrees with that 20% chance of seeing some showers,

on the shooter who took off after opening fire. three women were shot out here at 4:00 this morning. bullets hit them in the shoulder, foot, hip and back. we just learned a 24-year-old woman has died. the other women now at bellevue hospital, win in critical condition, the other in stable condition. police tell us there was a fight in the club early this morning that spilled on to the sidewalk and then shots were fired just seconds later. earlier this morning we talked to a man who was down the block when that happened. he said he walked up to the scene and described it as complete chaos. >> what did you hear or see? >> i heard about six or seven loud what seemed to be -- i was in disbelief but what seemed to be gunshots at the time. as i got closer i was still in disbelief. we could hear the yelling and screaming. reality hit you and you see people on the ground. it was mayhem. >> reporter: police are now giving us new detail on the shooter.
he have wearing a red and black hooded sweatshirt and seconds after opening fire he jumped in a black car, possibly a bmw and took off. police have not released the woman who died at this point but we will stay on the scene and keep you updated. live in the flat iron district, ilana gold, cbs 2 news. a play from saturday's game still looms large as the mets face the dodgers in game 3 tonight. >> it led to a 2-day suspension for dodgers player, a punishment he's appealing. jenelle burrell is live. >> reporter: this was already supposed to be a big game for the mets here tonight. the first post season game ever here at citi field.

>> i think the mets will battle it out. >> it will be the first game at the citi field facility. >> reporter: the mets said they hope that the suspension is upheld but the dodgers are backing utley. they said they hope the suspension is over turned. we have to wait and see how that plays outs. game 3 is scheduled to start here at citi field just after 8:30. an investigation is underway into the death of a woman found in a queens park. he was discovered in penn park. no arrests have been made or her identity this morning surveillance video was released of a hospital who road up to a woman at atlantic avenue and grabbed her handbag. when a man tried to
stop him he pulled a gun and road off. no one was hurt. the city will be buzzing with italian american pride. about 1 million people are expected to line 5th avenue for the columbus day parade. 35,000 marchers will travel from 47th street to 77th street. the parade kicks off at 11:00 a.m. the bronx had their own italian parade yesterday beginning on white plains road and morris park avenue. mayor de blasio was in attendance. columbus day may mean a day or work off from school or work today. it's a federal, state and local holiday. all federal officers and courts are closed as are city public schools and most banks. there will be no mail delivery and all post offices are closed except for that main post office on 32nd street.

street between 5th and broadway. the shooting happened at 4:00 this morning. three women were hit with bullets, a 24-year-old just died from her injuries. two other women, ages 25 to 30 are in stable condition at bellevue hospital. police tell us there was initially a fight inside this club that spilled on to the street and shots were fired seconds later. a worker at the club said he saw everything and it was a fight between a man add another man and as soon as he saw the women were hit he called 911. that man said he watched the shooter jump in a dark car, possibly a bmw and the car took off. the suspect was wearing a red and black hooded sweatshirt. if you have any information on the shooting police want you to come forward. ilana gold, cbs 2 news.

just after 8:30. reporting live from citi field, cbs 2 news. police are searching for a hit and run driver that left a college student on the side of a highway. anna semioli is in a coma at saint joseph's hospital in paterson. police say she was struck just before midnight thursday along route 46 east near the valley road exit. semioli is a senior out montclair state. police found her car on school property. that's at least a mile from where she was discovered. >> her car was there but she was found miles away from her car. it doesn't make sense. we know anna and we know that she wouldn't be walking at midnight on a highway. >> her family is offering a $10,000 reward leading to the arrest of a driver. a bronx woman is sharing her story of survival as she survived a brutal attempted robbery. it happened on tipton
just before 3:00 a.m. the 60-year-old women said she was returning home from a casino trip when she was put in a choke hold and someone tried to rip her purse from her arm. she doesn't want her identity revealed. >> how are you feeling? >> my body is hurt. my feet hurt. they have broke n my hands. they tried to take my purse. i said i don't have any money. they left. >> no arrests have been made in the case. new information in an attempted abduction caught on camera in connecticut. 38-year-old towana randall is charged with sexual assaulting a teenage girl who jumped from a moving car. the victim told police she was walking to school in the cold when the suspect offered her a ride. once inside she said she was sexual assaulted before jumping from the car. randall was charged with unlawful restraint. senator chuck schumer said volkswagen should be fined $18
