have a great day. it is 4:30, 50 degrees on this monday, february 29. leap day, going to be another warm one today with a chance of a passing shower. good morning i'm chris wragge. >> and i'm mary calvi. welcome to cbs 2 news this morning we'll have traffic and weather on the 2s but first, new this morning, new evidence in a hit and run accident in brooklyn over the weekend. >> it was one of five such accidents over the weekend and there are calls to get dangerous drivers off the streets. cbs 2 janelle burrell is live janelle? >> reporter: well chris police this morning are still searching for all five drivers from those accidents all across the city over this weekend. one of the incidents happening

the driver of this late model four door nissan altima is who police in brooklyn are looking for. the car left with extensive front passenger side mirror and headlight damage after investigators say just before 5 sunday morning its driver went threw a red light hitting a 41- year-old man crossing fifth avenue at ninth street in park slope. the man died. the driver never stopped. minutes later an ozone park queens police say a speeding car slam food this black suv. sonja ramirez was walking home when it happened. >> the force killing the uber driver. investigators say the driver kept going. two hours before in jamaica queens police say a woman was critically injured in this crosswalk of guy brewer boulevard and 118th road by another hit and run driver. the same thing in soho at spring street and sixth avenue a round 3:30:00 a.m. sunday.

old man who survived and in the bronx around 1:30 sunday morning, jose contreras' son found him in the street outside of a catering hall where the birthday. according to investigators the 63 year old was killed by a black suv getting on to the cross bronx expressway at webster avenue. >> he was trying to walk back towards the hall and it happened while he was crossing the street back. >> city councilman rodriguez calling for all of the drivers to surrender. >> hitting someone with your car and driving away is cowardly. >> and the mayor released a statement yesterday saying that the nypd's aggressively pursuing all five drivers in these cases they are hoping that surveillance video will lead them to the purpose etrait ors. reporting live from park slope, brooklyn, janelle burrell, cbs 2 news. time is 4:32 time for traffic and weather on the 2s hi john. >> don't rub it in.

which is closed in both directions between stalling and mcgraw avenues due to a pedestrian accident. police are still on scene investigating and a detour has been set up so you'll want to anticipate that. also in new jersey, the off ramp from 208 north bound to plaza road is closed, there's a water main break reported in the area. as you make your way farther south in lawrence harbor the north bound local lanes of the garden state parkway are closed you can see flashing lights due to an accident at exit 117. stick with the express lanes for much smoother ride as you make your way through the area. alternate side is in effect citywide. be safe don't text and drive. thank you an off duty nypd officer died after a hit and run on the new jersey turnpike. police say 25 year old vincent harrison was run over around 3:00 a.m. yesterday morning in elizabeth. he was hit when he pulled over and got out of his car after he was involved in a minor accident. new jersey state police say they did end up apprehending that driver. a fast moving fire is under investigation in newark.

around 9:00 on a home on west runion street and a man passing by heard an elderly woman shouting for help. she said her husband was still upstairs. >> when i ran inside the whole kitchen was on fire. he was standing in the kitchen. he didn't want to leave out of the kitchen, so when i was pulling him out of the kitchen he said no, my wife. but your wife is already downstairs. she told me you were upstairs and i put him over my shoulder and brought him downstairs. >> the red cross was on the scene to help 20 people displaced. royal caribbean's anthem of the sees cutting another trip short heading back to home port in new jersey. the cruise ship made headlines earlier this month after getting caught in a severe storm off the coast of north carolina. on saturday royal caribbean tweeted anthem of the seas would return to bayonne to avoid another storm and also a norovirus outbreak involving

small percentage of our guests. a virginia mana cause in the shooting deaths of his wife and rookie police officer on her first day of pal to duty is due in court. ronald hamilton is an active duty army staff sargent assigned to the pentagon charged with saturday's murder with an officer after she responded a domestic violence call at his home. the officer had just been sworn in on friday. >> prince william county police department is in very deep mourning over the loss of ashley glindon last night. our condolences go out to ashley's mother and her extended family as well as all of her loved ones. >> two other police officers were wound . police say hamilton had already killed his wife date time officers arrived. now to campaign 2016 donald trump is back on the hot seat after receiving a controversial endorsement. the republican presidential front runner denying knowledge

city than it was yesterday. six degrees warmer in white plains most reporting stations 5-15 degrees warmer. clear skies now, here comes the rain. i mean it's a line of showers a little bit heavier into parts of central western pennsylvania and upstate new york, should likely weaken as we head into the afternoon, but you look even around lunch time you'll see this line of showers notice it's weakened quite a bit but likely holds together but then the pay off is this afternoon still ample daylight to enjoy 4:00, 5, 6:00 you've got these nice conditions and then there's a hint of cool aaron the futurecast. definitely numbers will be trending down for the week in total, we're waiting and watching for another potential system wednesday, however that looks to be wet as well. i think that it's a little bit more vigorous better chance for a little bit of heavier rain but it should be rain. 59 warmest of the week, one overnight tonight 38. remember we're going to see showers during the day and then

stocks ended the day mixed the dow dropped 57 points and the s & p lost nearly four points. a new ticket price structure has taken effect at disney theme parks. disney divided single day passes into three categories. peak, regular and value. the company says it's a way to counter overcrowding. a value ticket to the magic kingdom in orlando costs $105, a regular ticket is $5 extra and peak tickets cost you $124. the new prices took effect yesterday. a new jersey child with a rare disorder has a life changing day all thanks to a generous donation. >> now he can move around because of a local foundation and a very big surprise. cbs has the story from bergen county. >> [applause] >> reporter: a special delivery wheeled into garfield, new jersey all to surprise seven- year-old gavin cheski. this new medical stroller is now his to keep. it's something he and his parents had desperately needed. >> it's going to change gavin's life and be able to do regular

five are missing after the attacks isis claimed responsibility for the bombings the search for a robber who held up a man in a bronx deli. police released surveillance video of the suspect. they say he pulled a gun on his victim early saturday at webster gourmet. he took two cell phones, a watch and $450 in cash and fire a shot and ran off. no one was hurt. police are still looking for the suspects in a shooting on a subway platform in the crown heights section of brooklyn. the 22 year old victim told them he was waiting for three train just after midnight on sunday when two teenagers shot him for no apparent reason. he's expected to be okay. a man who was shot four times during a workplace shooting last week in cans pass forgives his attacker. cedric ford went on a shooting rampage last thursday that left three people dead and 14 others injured. miller says part of the healing process also means forgiving

>> i don't know what he was going through, but obviously he felt this was the way out and so my heart just aches for him. >> investigators believe ford became violent after being served with a protective order taken out by an ex-girlfriend. ford was shot and killed by police at the scene. if you think long island railroad was moving slower than usual last year you might be on to something. >> cbs 2 is live at the lirr train station with more. hi, dianne. >> reporter: chris and mary good morning to you. over the course of last year we talked to several long island railroad commuters who said that service seemed especially bad last year and now it turns out they had a point to new information shows 2015 was especially bad for long island railroad commuters and now the mta says it's working on it. this was the scene at penn station earlier this month. commuters packed shoulder to shoulder amid train delays and now new statistics show trains

than at any point since 2000. >> they cancel trains and the trains are overpacked. >> she's not alone after we aired a report about rider grievances using the hash tag we deserve better, more lirr riders took to twitter to complain. one commuter wrote signal problems two to three times a week during rush. where is my fare man going and another tweeted another delayed commute on the lirr. not even surprised. the mta says a lot of factors slowdown train service including derailments, east river tunnel issues and trespassers. the long list of incidents for 2015 even included a plane crash on the long island railroad tracks. >> this plane was had left the airport in suffolk county en route to moirestown, and reported to farmingdale airport but they were experiencing difficulties pintanoing altitude. >> while some of those issues are beyond the long island railroads control the mta is working on making things better saying in a new statement the lirr is undertaking extensive

will improve on time performance over the long term. >> the governor also announced plans last month for a push to add a third track along this line all the way from floral park up to hicksville, problem is the governor hasn't yet announced plans on how that plan would be fund and local residents have come out strongly opposed they don't want to lose the land they have to lose to add that third rail and say that it would just bring more rain traffic to the area. in the meantime other projects are already under way like the double track and the east but the mta says while those projects will help in the long run in the short-term they present more service challenges while still under way. dianne thanks time is 5:08 still to come wrap up from hollywoods biggest night. the last day of campaigning before super tuesday what donald trump is now saying about the endorsement from kkk leader. he had four tickets.
