have a great day. . live from studio 46. this is cbs 2 news this morning. it is 4:30. 31 degrees on this friday march fourth. there is some light snow in the area, and it will stay this way through the morning commute. good morning everyone i'm chris wragge. let's get right to the forecast and turn it to john elliot. good morning mary and chris, hi, everybody, @ going to be a slippery, sloppy, we may see a few school delays. over my shoulder that's light snow. temperature a key player here too, 31 degrees. wind out of the east, the dew points will be high. staten island over tobrooklyn and queens parts of the bronx in manhattan we see a little bit of a break to the north. that is the pattern to this

we're anticipating more significant total, that would be further to the south. the bulk of the storm is going to be off to our south, you see that with the heavy rain in through north carolina giving over to snow through parts of virginia, maryland, closer to our area. boy, driving down to baltimore, philly or d.c. it is contained to the social. the national weather service issuing an advisory, parts of the forks as well. an inch of a trace or two. the cool temperatures mean that roadways will be slick. so obviously we'll be watching that and you know who is watching that right now, alex dennis, what's going on alex. we already have changes as you make your way out there. a lot of green, the bridge is closed until 5:00, you'll stick to the gothels bridge as an alternate. and a 45 miles per hour speed

a man accused in a stabbing rampage, michael is charged with the murder of her and the daughter. another 2-year-old girl survived the attack. happened last month at a ramada inn hotel being used to house the homeless. sentencing for a new york serial killer, he was a clothing sales man, last month he was convicted of killing three middle eastern shopkeepers in brooklyn in 2012, claiming he was framed by business associate, he faces a maximum sentence of 75 years to life. a quick thinking new jersey man says he helped catch the suspect who broke into his home. the resident said he recognized him on the street. brian has the exclusive story. john describes his son bedroom. >> stuff all overthe place, i

his money is, it is open on the bed and the money is gone. so i'm like, oh my gosh, we've been ripped off, you know. >> surveillance video from a neighbor's house show it is suspect walking down, and the suspect was still inside when john got home. >> when i came in the guy was still in here, i scared him and he bolted out the front door. >> you can see that on the surveillance video too. the man runs off wearing a gray hoodie and gray sweatpants. >> he was driving and saw a guy walking down this sidewalk who looked an awful lot like the suspect in that video. >> it looked just like the guy wearing the same clothes and everything, i go around the block and come around and take his picture with my phone. >> john called the police and had a surprise confrontation. >> the guy approaches my car says what are you taking my picture for? i said my house was robbed and you look like the guy in the video. video? and he takes off running.

coming up don't worry. . we welcome you back snow is falling here in the tristate area here in new york city. some snow coming down john is going to have that coming up in just a moment. welcome back to cbs 2 news this morning on friday the fourth. snowy roads will make for a messy commute in parts of the area. janelle burrell is in mobile 2 with a look at the conditions on the new jersey turnpike bright and early. good morning to you chris and mary, we are headed south on the new jersey turnpike heading into the area, you can see that there are some flurries, the roads are pretty slick so you want to give yourself extra time as we always tell you. we have seen some of the salt trucks making their way around so that is some good news as they are trying to keep the roadways clear. but so far, not too, too bad just a bit slick with these

down, not really any accumulation just wet roadways this morning so you'll want to give yourself some extra time before you head out the door, reporting live from mobile 2. cbs 2 news. 4:42. let's get you to traffic and weather on the 2's. absolutely. i saw the salters out there, i was behind them and that is a great thing just watch out on the drive way and the sidewalk because that's where you could see some slipping and falling so yeah it is snowing let's look back in time. we've got 21 obviously cold enough for snow in parts of the hudson valley, you are not that close to the storm but i like what bob is reminding us of on this day in 1953 snow was reported in hawaii. now it is in hawaii quite a bit because of the elevation but rather rare. let's go closer to the city,

obviously accumulating in grassy surfaces, matt has it in 29. he would like one more big snowstorm before spring settles in. i don't think we're going to see that. i think we'll see more of that. look at that, just that range, spring river. here is what we're looking at snow in the city, cold enough temperatures for more snow throughout the morning commute. we like this camera you can see more than that. these roadways are just wet. this is 57th street, looks like another big movie shoot across the street and wet sidewalks as well. excellent parallel marking, we'll show you it is 31 degrees, wind out of the east at 9. around the area those cold temperatures to the north. 30, edison down through belmont. temperatures compared to

8 degrees warmer. and morris, staten island, into the city right through there brooklyn as they will. monmouth and ocean, you can see more in accumulation, where you have to move it whether you are using a broom or a little shovel. the bulk of the energy is well to the south. future cast between now and say 7:30, starts to push down to the south. and then we see it actually start to exit. however notice suffolk county through midday, you see snow and clearing this which is great one final little hiccup to share, that's going to be sunday morning where we see a few flurries before there is a big warm up by sunday afternoon feeling better next week flirting with records by next week, do exercise caution, as alex will say, i'm sure it is going to be a slow go out there.

and leaving right now, down to baltimore, slower and further to the south dealing with a little bit of exiting heavy rain. a snapshot of our area you can see the snow through manhattan over the east river and into queens,brooklyn as well the bronx you are seeing some there is a little bit of a break up into parts of west chester county, this is where the potential for maybe 2 or 3 inches, ocean county, you're in fact under a winter weather advisory further to the south all the way down to cape may, that's where you see maybe 3 plus inches, that you have to manage, makes it challenging as far as our area, snow right now we'll see some slick roads. morning rush, it is going to be slow but as far as a real challenge, that's south and east. that's the south shore parts of suffolk, down into the jersey shore. it is going to wrap up midday, trace to maybe 2, 2-plus would be south. then the afternoon we'll see breaks north and west we'll see sun after the morning flakes
