roads are in great shape this morning...weather shouldn't impact the roads.the i-94 eb to i-41/us-45 nb system ramp is now closed long term until spring 2017 for reconstructionall part of the zoo interchange project. hwy 100 will become the main detour while this closure is in place.there will be a full closure of i-94 eb at hwy 67 for a traffic switch.heads up starting friday night through sunday i-94 eb will close at hwy 100 through the zoo for ramp work at the zoo interchange. if work goes as planned it could open sometime on saturday. 3 breaking news this morning not far from milwaukee's sherman park. two houses are on fire on the north side. cbs 58's julie parise joins us live on scene with what we know so far. julie what can you tell us? 3 it's hard to tell just how much damage this fire has caused just yet -- if we zoom in here you can see it does appear at least the first floor of this home on 33rdand

our photographer captured this shot of the flames when he first got here just after 5. the fire now does seem to be out.i can tell you the smoke is visible from blocks away, i saw it as i drove up to the scene.what we don't know just yet is if anyone was inside these homes at the time and if anyone who did live here will have a home to go back to. 3 we are waiting for more information from the fire chief.we will bring you the latest as we learn itlive on milwaukee jp cbs 58 3 more? threats are emerging... against the officer involved in saturday's shooting death of (saville) smith in milwaukee. milwaukee.the unrest has sparked anger on social media - with dozens of people posting threatening messages toward the officer.

aevermann joins us live from district 7 headquarters with that side of the story. kyle? 3 one post says the officer must pay for what he did. another - hoping he burns in the afterlife.the threats are so serious that police are watching his home. milwaukee police chief ed flynn says that officer is staying with relatives in another city because of fears for his safety.in a statement - m-p-d tells us they are aware of some general threats are investigating.criminal justice expert brian dorow says hesafety of the officer is their number one priority at this point.he also went to say most police departments have teams devoted to social media - searching - and acting - on threatening posts "35:38 "it depends on the severity. are the threats direct threats? or are they implied threats? the investigation really gets down to, is this person's well-being in jeopardy?" a big question on everyone's mind is when will the officer return to milwaukee. we'll tell you what dorow says about that coming up in our next half hour.live outside police hq, kyle aevermann. cbs58 news. the archdiocese of milwaukee is holding a ?prayer vigil? today... in response to the events over the weekend.it starts at 6:30 tonight at "all saints parish" on 25-th street near capitol.everyone is welcome. the chaos has certainly calmed down .... after the officer-involved shooting over the weeken now community members are trying to come up with ways to ?keep? the peace. adults... kids... and business owners met with police and sheriff's deputies last night at the "boys and girls club" in sherman park. one of the goals--- to help young people ?find a job?... and further their education.a 10 p-m curfew is now being enforced for anyone 17 and under in milwaukee ... and sherman park continues to close early.the president of the "sherman park neighborhood association" says... he's ?not? happy with that move. neither are teens who use the park.

newscasts. and online at cbs 58 dot com. 3 now to a developing story--- milwaukee police are still looking for the drver who ?hit and killed? a woman.. and ran o. off.police believe the car that hit 22-year-old "ty-ann bunch" tuesday night.. was stolen.authorities say... she was crossing fond du lac near oak in milwauke with a friend.. when she was hit.her mother says she hopes the driver will come foward so her family can get closure. 00-6 "they took a part of me. y'all took something a part of me that i'm going to truly miss daughter." 3 a go fund me page has been set up to cover funeral expenses. we have a link to that page on our website-- cbs 58 dot com. a woman- accused of murdering her ex-boyfriend in his kenosha home- is expected to be extradited back to wisconsin. donna matthews is still in the king county jail in washington state. she waived extradition... and bail has been denied. kenosha police say she shot michael gayan and left him for dead. his decomposed body was

when the school year starts in racine.. students will have three brand new schools. it's the first time the racine unified school district has built a ?new? school in more than forty years. olympia brown will be a science-focused elementary school. the new knapp elementary oo community school with a goal to improve student learning while also building stronger families and healthy communities. in the fall... gifford school will open its doors to students in grades 6-8... making it a k through 8 campus.voters approved the 128-million dollar referendum in 2014.

we want to get you caught up on the breaking news happening right now on milwaukee's north side.firefighters are working to put out ?two? fires... one in a house and the other in the neighboring duplex. they're right next to eh hadley.milwaukee fire was called to the scene just about an hour ago. one of the houses is starting to collapse in the back. still no reports of any injuries. but the milwaukee fire department has been busy this week. responding to multiple late night and early morning fires. we appreciate

developments. 3 making news around the nation-- - firefighters are still battling the flames of the massive "blue cut" wildfire.i just checked... and the latest reports say.. it's only four percent contained. contained.the fire is burning east of los angeles.it's ?devouring everything? in its path ... as it continues to expand.more than 80-thousand people habe leave their homes. more than 33-thousand houses and businesses are still in danger. 3 from burning trees to a burning ship!more than 500 passengers and crew members had to get off a cruise ship about a mile off puerto rico's north coast after a fire started on board. board.it happened yesterday on the "carribbean fantasy cruise and ferry ship."the coast guard says.... all passengers and crew got off okay-- no serious injuries. officials say... the fire was burning

was sounded. officials are warning people to stay away from the kalamazoo river ...after a major sewage spill.heavy rains and an incorrectly set sensor at the water treatment plant ...caused an overflow that spilled into the river.city workers estimate it was more than 572-thousand-gallons of partially treated wastewater. kalamazoo's environmental services are now testing the water for e-coli.officials say it could take several days before the water is safe again. breaking news now...we're getting a new view of the damage... after a fire on milwaukee's north side.two homes were on fire at one point this morning near 33rd and hadley. hadley. cbs 58's julie parise is live on the scene with new details. julie, what do you see? we are now taking a look at this fire from the back side of these houses.one of these houses, which i'm told was from the back as firefighters continue to fight hot spots inside. in the last few minutes i spoke with a man who says he is the owner of one of these houses and rents it to tenants.he told me a family lived upstairs and unrelated tenants lived on the bottom floor. take a look at this video from earlier.the fire call came in just after 5.smoke was visible

firefighters fought the flames. the american red milwaukee fire crews have been busy.this is the third fire this week in or sherman park neighborhood. yesterday morning a fire broke out in a vacant duplex at 50th and clarke.it spread to the neighboring home where six people lived. a man passing by is credited with getting that family out without injuries. milwaukee fire officials called the source of the fire "curious" because the vacant house had no working electricity or gas. no word on the cause. 3 3 community members and police are coming together to find solutions to keep the peace in

following a ?deadly? officer- involved shooting. shooting.community members met with police and sheriff's deputies last night... at the "boys and girls club" in sherman park.they talked about ideas... to stop the violence. the end goal--- help young people find a job... further their education... and give them ?hope?--- something to look forward to. 3 meanwhile--- the president of the sherman park ?neighborhood association? says... he's ?not? happy with the choice to close sherman park ?early.?the park is now closed from six at night.... until six in the morning.teenagers who use the for a lot of these kids sherman park is a safe haven for them.. they feel safer being in the park than they do at home. home. closing the park down aint' going to do anything but bring the kids back onto the streets, kids coming off the streets coming into the park to eat and play play 3 the sherman park neighborhood association... has meetings ?every wednesday.? the importance of those gatherings... was felt ?even more last night?... in the

the man who was shot and killed... had a handgun that was stolen from a home in "genesse" in march. investigators say... the homeowner was ?on vacation? ... and came back to find his home had been ?broken into?... and his gun was gone. police are still investigating... how smith got the gun.milwaukee mayor "tom barrett" has asked for the officer's body camera to be released---- but the d-c-i tells us... they're ?not? ready to do that just yet. mayor barrett has seen a ?picture? from the video.he says.. it clearly shows smith had a gun in his hand... when th afternoon. milwaukee police are monitoring the home of the officer involved in saturday's deadly shooting of sylville smi. smith.for safety reasons-- milwaukee police chief "ed flynn" says... that officer is staying with relatives in ?another? city. city.cbs 58's kyle aevermann joins us live from district seven headquarters.... to explain what the department is doing about the threats. kyle? we are not identifying that officer out of respect for his safety....but we do know squad cars have been parked outside

mpd tells us it's aware of threats made online against the officer - and that those are being taken seriously.one post says the officer must pay for what he did - another - hoping he burns in the afterlife.criminal justice expert brian dorow says most police departments have teams devoted to social media - searching - and acting - on threatening posts.at this point, the safety of the officer is one of the top priorities.dorow says it's common practice for a targeted officer toav some time.but for how long - remains unclear :37:58 "it really will be contingent on how long the investigation takes. what is the outcome of the investigation, and what happens from there." mpd also tells us they are aware of a "disturbing national trend" - involving threats against officers involved in uses of deadly force."they did not comment on what they do specifically - to protect their officers.

looking ahead-- a west allis man charged with ?killing his neighbor?... is due in milwaukee county court this morning for his ?preliminary he? hearing.?20-year-old "zachary hays"... faces ?160 years in prison.?he's accused of killing his neighbor on may first... then driving to ?columbia and sauk counties? and ?shooting at cars? on the interstate.one of the bullets hit an ?illinois mother?... who was driving back from the dells with her family.she was killed.a judge has found hays ?competent to stand trial.? he was a "no show" in court earlier this month. and police- that's the goal of a new school policing program in racine. racine.the school board unanimously approved the plan earlier this week. now... in addition to part-time officers who work short shifts at the schools... horlick and washington park high schools will each get a full-time resource officer. sot chief art howell, racine police dept.00;35;42 as you can see with the national narrative, there's some friction between communities of color, in particular, and police agencies. so, simply, what we wanna do is just make sure that we have a great report with the people that we

3 roads are in great shape this morning...weather shouldn't impact the roads.the i-94 eb to i-41/us-45 nb system ramp is now closed long term until spring 2017 for reconstructionall part of the zoo interchange project. hwy 100 will become the main detour while this closure is in place.there will be a full closure of i-94 eb at hwy 67 for a traffic switch.heads up starting friday night through sunday i-94 eb will close at ramp work at the zoo interchange. if work goes as planned it could open sometime on saturday.a reminder that off the freeway in wauwatosa center st. e/wb is now closed from 112-115th for bridge reconstruction until august. plan on slow conditions as you travel through the area. another reminder that the national, lincoln and greenfied ave entrance ramps to i-894 nb are now closed until fall 2016a new zipper merge is also in place between national and greenfield ave as well. drivers should use posted alternates and plan for extra time.another reminder that the i-794 nb exit ramp to

it's here's a recap of some of your morning's big stories in news on the go. firefighters are still on the scene of a house fire that spread to the house next door... on 33rd and hadley. cbs 58's julie parise is live on milwaukee's north side with the latest.julie. we are taking a look at this fire from the back side of these houses.one of these houses, which i'm told was abandoned, seems to be gutted from the back as firefighters continue to fight hot spots inside. in the last few minutes i spoke with a man who says he is the owner of one of these houses and rents it to tenants.he told me a family lived upstairs and unrelated tenants lived on the bottom floor.the fire call came in just after 5.smoke was visible from blocks away as firefighters fought the flames.
