our top story at six...one of three men charged in the death of a five-year-old milwaukee girl.. is expected to learn his fate in milwaukee county court today. carl barrett is charged with first degree reckless homicide.. and three counts of recklessly endangering safety... in the death of laylah petersen. investigators say he was the second gunman involved in the crime. petersen was shot in 20-14 while sitting on her grandfather's lap.it took about a ?year? before "barrett"... "arliss gordon" and "paul death. 3 new this morning... a milwaukee man is behind bars after a police chase ends in a crash.officers say they were responding to a report of shots fired around three this morning... near 89th and mill road in milwaukee.that's when they say the 24-year-old driver quickly sped away... and crashed into a tree near 95th and allyn.the driver was taken to the hospital and treated... and then taken into custody on a prior warrant. police say a gun was found in the suspect's vehicle. 3 now to a developing story... another incident at the home

and cbs 58 has learned...this is actually the ?third? crime committed there in recent weeks. the mixed martial arts champion posted this video yesterday morning... showing two young men get out of a black four-door car outside his home.you'll see them try to open the doors on one of the cars in the driveway.. then get into the white s-u-v. you'll remember last month... two cars were set on fire.. and the flames spread to a third in his driveway. alderman mark borkowski says the neighorhood is normally very quiet. he thinks someone is after the former u-f-c lightweight champi. 23:09:49-10:05 it would seem to me that this isn't random when it's 3 times at the same locaiton then the definition of considence goes out the window, so i would think that whoever's doing it has some kind of connection to mr pettis. pettis.connection to mr pettis. pettis. 3 pettis is offering a reward for information on the the identities of the two suspects. 3 looking ahead -- the presidental recount will begin at 9 o'clock this morning. green party presidential

in 3-and-a-half million dollars for the recount. recount.cbs 58's kyle aevermann joins us live with a closer look at what's happening today.kyle? we are at the milwaukee county courthouse this morning and inside sits the milwaukee county clerks office. and they have been busy over the past several days preparing for the recount. workers will begin recounting milwaukee county's ballots--at 9 am.a process county officials say will take right up to the 8 pm, december 12th deadline.milwaukee county election officials say they are re than 444-thousand ballots. municipalities are assigned a time to come and count their votes-- every day about 130 people will be working.at least 2 sheriff's deputies will guard the ballots at all times during the recount--and in the end- county officials expect to see little change in the results. joe czarnezki, milwaukee county clerk 11;31;51 that would be extremely rare. we have confidence that our voting equipment is accurate recount is open to the

down how many counties plan on using machines, and how many plan on recounting by hand. live in mke. kyle aevermann. cbs58 news. 3 stay with cbs 58 as we continue to cover this developing story... and track the results of the election recount. a city initiative takes aim at a deadly problem in milwaukee county today. with drug overdoses on the rise -- people are being asked to get rid of their unused medications through a sponsored cbs 58's julie parise..is live with the details this morning. the drug mail back program is using the post office to fight the opioid and heroin epidemic here in milwaukee countyit's an easy, free way to get rid of addictive medictions -- through the mail. postage paid envelopes will be available at 10 different cvs stores in milwaukee. people can then drop them in the mail thse drugs will go to the milwaukee and cudahy police departments for handling by the department of justice. these envelopes have been available for awhile, but they used to cost a few bucks -- now they're free. with 217

opioid overdose deaths..like julie just reported...to date... 217 people have died of heroin and opioid overdoses ... it was 176 last year. year.the medical exmainer's office says fentanyl deaths are up about 130-percent this year..with 70 o-d's. o-d's.compared to 30 all of last year.. year..and 16 in 20-14.one big problem.. many users end up mixing drugs and may not even know it. 1:51:16-29 it's far more potent than morphine than the heroin is, so when two together you don't realize the dose needs to be reduced in order to receive the same effect. 3 3 later today...milwaukee alderman michael murphy will introduce legislations to create a county wide task force to combat the problem. the u.s. department of housing and urban development says ?public housing? will be smoke free. over the next year and a half... housing authorities will have to develop a plan on the new smoking rules and how to enforce them.there are more

waukesha, racine and washington counties. people living in those homes will now have to go outside to smoke. (ken barbeau, milwaukee housing authority) "we have been preparing our residents because ever since this draft came out a year ago, we've been telling our residents that this is a possibility." possibility." the rule only involves smoking... but milwaukee may look at whether "e-cigarettes" will be added. 3 milwaukee's domestic animal shelter took center stage yesterday. riverside theatre presented the organization with a check for 32-thousand do! dollars!the money w from the recent auction of theater seats... removed from the newly-renovated riverside theater . among those to celebrate madacc's good fortune... one of the animals its bringing back to health. a dog named maddy.. who still has a loving disposition.. while recovering from severe burns. "we get in animals just like her that have been burned, shot, stabbed, starved, injured and we never have enough money to take care of those animals and get them well and get them adopted.and we struggle so much."

the chair auction was extremely popular. 60-pairs of the chairs sold in less than a week. 3 the mitchell park domes... will celebrate a re-opening today.this comes after structural concerns forced them to close earlier this year. now the question is ... what's next? a task force is in charge of reviewing three options -- repair the current domes. replace them with similar structures. or build something entirely different.roughly half of the people who took a county survey want the domes demolished and new ones built on the property. thi state representative josh zepnick. the glass and domes as they are constructed are very energy inefficient, we're burning a ton of money just paying for heat and electricity 3 both sides say cost will be a huge factor in the decision. the county is hosting a grand re-opening event from 9 until 5 today. admission is free. you can also take the future of the domes survey online... we have a link at cbs 58 dot com.click this story on our home page. 3 after the break... how one

assessing the damage left behind by severe storms and multiple tornadoes. tornadoes. more than a dozen twisters touched down in alabama, louisiana, mississippi an tennessee . .killing several people... from tuesday into wednesday... the storm system is now expected to move into the carolinas. 3 the storms tore through just as crews in eastern tennessee were containing a deadly wildfire.the fires-- which erupted in two popular resort towns monday-- charred thousands of acres and destroyed hundreds of structures. dolly parton.. who ha affected area.. plans to give one-thousand dollars a month to families who lost their homes. 3 3 looking ahead this morning .. city leaders are partnering with the state department of justice to fight the drug overdose problem in milwaukee county. starting today -- local pharmacies will offer a way to safely and discreetly get rid of unused medications. julie parise is live in milwaukee with that story. the drug mail back program asks people to pick up a free envelope from a local

this morning, hundreds of workers across the state will begin recounting election ballots.... a move requested by.. and paid for by former green party presidential candidate jill ste. stein.cbs 58's kyle aevermann joins us live with a closer look at the recounteffort. kyle? the recount starts at 9 o'clock this morning.in milwaukee county about 130 people will work each d every day until all 440,000+ ballots are counted once again.. late yesterday those ballots were moved over from county courthouse... over to the city of milwaukee's election commission warehouse. that's where milwaukee county's recount is going to happen.. according to the elections commission 47 counties will count by hand.... including kenosha, dodge, ozaukee and washington counties.10 counties will use machines and hand count. and 12 counties including milwaukee, racine, and waueksha will just use machines.at least 2 sheriff's deputies will guard the ballots at all times during
