announcer: local, live, late-breaking. this is wesh 2 news at 5:00 in high definition. >> tonight, i am suspending my campaign. angela: breaking tonight, a south carolina shakeup for republicans. former florida governor jeb bush gets teary eyed as he gives up his dreams of going to the white house. >> and with that dream gone for one floridian, florida senator is looking to make it into the white house. we have a full day of south carolina primary coverage coming straight ahead. angela: but we start with breaking news in orlando. police just confirmed four people have been shot. good evening, i' m angela taylor. it is all unfolding in parramore. wesh 2' s matt lupoli is working this story and joins us live with these breaking developments.
street and the avenue. -- long street and lee avenue. police are not looking for a suspect at this time. we will continue to watch this story for you and bring you matt lupoli live in a few moments. now to that big development in commitment 2016. not long after it became apparent donald trump would win the south carolina primary, jeb bush announced he' s giving up. looking at tonight' s results, it seems the race is between trump, ted cruz, and florida senator marco rubio. right now i both have 22%, it is so close -- they both have 22%, it is so close. wesh 2' s adrian whitsett joins us live from the rubio campaign in columbia. how has it been? adrian: it has been fun. even of the percentage wise it shows ted cruz and marco rubio
his campaign was full of life, they were extremely excited to see how much momentum he has gained even since new hampshire. he could be right in second place even though donald clearly won the state of south carolina. you' ll hear from donald trump, ted cruz, as well as jeb bush, who decided to suspend his campaign. there was a huge cheer inside the rubio campaign party when that happened. folks that i was talking to say they do believe jeb bush' s voters will go to marco rubio. this will be a big boost to going forward. we also did hear from carson for we got to hear and to the candidates read ben carson, who had the same vote tally as jeb bush who is now dropping out, said he is here to stay. let' s look at the rest of the candidates. trump: when you win, it is beautiful. we are going to start winning for our country.
bush: the people of iowa and new hampshire and south carolina has spoken. tonight i am suspending my campaign. rubio: he was the greatest governor in the history of florida. [applause] [laughter] and i believe and i pray that his service to our country has not yet ended. adrian: so you can hear there is a lot of commendation for jeb bush. you will be to see more on wesh 2 news sunrise or it more than 700,000 people voted in this thing so far, which is more than 100,000 more than what they had in the 2012 the gop primary here in south carolina, which broke the record back then. you can see how much interested there is on the republican side in south carolina tonight. angela: when you are out there, was in a to rubio surprised at all how close he and ted cruz
adrian: really, it did not seem so. when he took the stage and got in front of his supporters, he looked very presidential more than i have seen over the last few weeks covering iowa and new hampshire. he really commanded it. he seems like he should have been in first. i know he knows the numbers were for donald, but it doesn' t come across that he believes that he should -- it does come across that he believes he should be in second. rubio' s campaign all of his supporters, not surprised at all. i think the momentum is going to keep going, and they think it is going to shift. i the time we reach our primary in florida, march 15, where 99 delegates are on the line, a winner take all, they think rubio has a shot. angela: i would say confidence is what i saw out of marco rubio
adrian whitsett life for us for the republican presidential primary. on the democratic side, hillary clinton came out with a win in nevada' s democratic presidential caucuses. she beat senator bernie sanders 52% to 48%. [applause] hillary clinton: you know i am so, so thrilled and so grateful to all of my supporters out there. some may have doubted us but we never doubted each other. [applause] bernie sanders: in a short while, i' ll be on a plane to south carolina, and then we' re going to be competing in 11 states all across this country on super tuesday. and i believe i believe that on , super tuesday, we' ve got an excellent chance to win many of those states.
angela: just a reminder the , south carolina democratic primary is next saturday. we have a complete section dedicated to commitment 2016 inside wesh.com. there, you can read about the turnouts for today' s primary and caucuses. just click on the news tab inside wesh.com. more breaking news tonight for the first time we are hearing from the orange county deputy injured in the hit and run while on duty. in the last 30 minutes, the sheriff' s office released this video from sergeant marcy pierce. >> i have a fractured left foot. i have four stitches in my eye over here, and quite a bit of swelling around my eye and into my head. angela: pierce went on to thank those supporting her after yesterdays crash. she was injured while trying to arrest jonc arlos ortiz near 436 and colonial drive.
he remains on the loose tonight. we want to get back to breaking news out of parramore or police confirmed for people have been shot. matt lupoli is working this story. he joins us live. matt: this is where a crash connected to that shooting took place. you can see the damaged silver suv in the intersection of lee and long behind crime scene tape. this shows the investigation near anderson and parramore near a food store. police officers tell us four people were shot in this area. all four were rushed to a hospital, three were seriously hurt. this started about 9:00. woman slater, a brief chase ensued, and that ended with a crash at lee and long.

t even walk out the door no more. we got to pray. we got to pray every day. angela: witnesses tell wesh 2 that two men on dirt bikes were doing tricks and racing along the sidewalk right before the accident. troopers aren' t confirming that. new tonight for the first time , we' re hearing the calls for help from the el faro ship before it sank. at times the captain can be heard pleading for help. >> the clock is ticking. can i please speak with a qi? angela: the recordings were played during a coast guard hearing in jacksonville. the ship sank during hurricane joaquin back in october, killing all 33 members on board. some family members have filed a lawsuit against the ship' s owners. the coast guard will determine if misconduct or negligence caused the sinking. first alert meteorologist eric burris is here. it is shaping up to be a beautiful weekend, and as we go to the daytona 500, fans will
