good morning. welcome to news channel 8. i'm gene ramirez. >> and i'm gayle guyardo. let's get right to breaking news. >> yeah, terrifying moments in the middle of the night. take a look here. a truck crashes into the carport and lands on top of two other cars and just look at the damage left behind at this home. this is over in gibsonton. and now investigators are working to figure out what happened. news channel 8s lindsey mastis is live if the scene this morning. in the riverfront community. we're told one person is in custody, lindsey. >> reporter: yes, gayle, that is right.
it's been a scary start to this friday morning and behind me, you can see where they just pulled out this vehicle from the carport. notice that it is completely crushed. you can't even see the top of it very well. that's because a pickup truck landed on top of it this morning. that pickup truck is right over here. take a look at that. you can see some damage to that truck as well. and now the car behind it was also involved and there's a fourth vehicle way over here. and you can see a little bit, that the windshield there is all cracked up as well. and now what happened is around 1:50 a.m., that's when the call came in. the pickup truck ended up landing on top of a vehicle in the carport. it also hit that white vehicle you saw earlier and pushed that vehicle into that black suv. that's why there's so many vehicles involved this morning. and now incredibly, no one hurt. not even the driver of that vehicle. and the family this morning,
what happened. i mean, they were woken up in devastation. and i wanted to show you again around here where the vehicle is. you will see a lot of debris on the ground but also this family's belongs, they had a lot of items in the carport and all of it looks completely destroyed. we're told the suspect is under arrest on suspicion of dui. of course, they are still working out those charges this morning and as soon as we get you know. but just an awful start to this friday morning for this family. >> horrible. all right, lindsey mastis coming toes from the gibsonton area. and you can stay on top of breaking news like this all day every day, just download the news channel 8 breaking news app to your smart phone. it's 4:32. let's get a check on the weekend weather. >> not looking too bad either. this morning, we are obviously warmer than yesterday but there's still a chill to the air. it's just that we're well above
41 in lakeland. again, that's certainly jacket weather but above freezing. i don't think we will see frost pictures today. 48 fish hawk. look what a difference, lakeland, five degrees warmer. but inverness, 22 degrees warmer. hah a difference. just absolutely great to be outside by the afternoon. we make it to 70, mild with light winds and sunshine. and in weather and traffic on the 8s at 4:38, i have the eight-day temperature trend to see how long it stays this comfortable. andless is here to let you know about the friday commute. overall, we're looking nice this morning. we have a few problems. paul buchman highway, an accident involving a hit-and- run at taller road. it's south of the zephyrhills area. as we move north, on the edge of pasco county, not quite into hernando county, at bellamy brothers boulevard, we have a

saturday, just a little breezy. and for the evening saturday, a starry night to take a stroll. temperatures fall to 55 degrees during the evening. and valentine's day itself looking lovely, a cool morning, 68 in the afternoon. and in fact, check out the eight-day temperature trend. on monday, we go above average of 73 degrees. and then staying in up ther 60s into 70 into the end of next week. checking on traffic on the 8s this morning. at least i can handle the decent temperatures. these are good. >> yeah, they're very comfortable. >> i'm all right. and traffic is all right too. we have a good drive. not perfect. we have some issues. but overall, state road 54 from u.s. 19 to the sun coast parkway, a 16 minute commute. the only reason it's yellow is because red lights to go through. great drive u.s. 19 through paul harbor, state road 54 to tampa road, roughly 12 minutes. either direction, most of the traffic heads south though on u.s. 19.

project back in 2014. the officer claims he did not know anyone was in the stairway. he says he fired the drawn gun when a noise startled him. it's 4:45. happening today, the florida department of health in pasco county is offering free children's dental cleanings. kids can get dental work today from 8:00 to 11:00 this morning on little road at the clinic. children from 1 to age 18 can get free screening, cleanings and prizes. parents must be there but you don't need an appointment. just show up. and speaking of smiles, we have heard that smiles are contagious but now the there's research on the theory. >> laugh, smiles and cries are contagious. it only takes a split second to know when it's time to laugh or cry with each other. people have an instinct for copying other faces without even realizing it. it then triggers the brain to feel similar emotions. and valentine's day is all about love.

thanks to this area of high yesterday. as it moves to the east, the clockwise winds give us more of a south wind. that's why it's near 70 today. cold front comes through tomorrow, just a few clouds and mild in the morning. breezy and sunny saturday afternoon and chilly for valentine's morning in the 40s. afternoon. the 8s? well, we're moving at good speeds on the bay area interstates. we want to hop over to u.s. 19 through palm harbor, state road 54 to the tampa road, 12 minute commute here. if you're using u.s. 41, looks good through the land o'lakes area. and state road 52 to state road 54, roughly 11 minutes. we have an accident that's a hit-and-run off to the shoulder at the paul buchman highway at taller road south of the zephyrhills area. and bellamy brothers boulevard is blocked at bayhead road just south of the pasco county line. keep that in mind.
