well, good morning and welcome to news channel 8 today. i'm gayle guyardo. >> and i'm candace mccowan in for gene this morning. our top story, a suspected armed carjacker is on the run. police believe he tacked a mother in her car at a 24-hour walgreens. in about two minute, we will hear if the victim about what she remembers from that night. ben carson won't be at tonight's debate, stopping short of saying he is out of the race. 9 it looks like his road to the white house is coming to an end.

69 degrees at 8:00. in weather and traffic on the 8s at 4:08, i have an hour-by- hour look at your thursday. and leslee is here with the morning commute. >> that's right. love me some josh turner. i saw him last time and wonderful music. let's take a look at traffic. we have a couple issues. overnight construction, that's the name of the game. and if you're traveling southbound on 275, the exit to 54th avenue is closed. 54th avenue south from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. so here's this situation. let's take a live look out there. flip over. you have to continue. what you want to remember is exit before you get to the 54th street south. and then go to u.s. 19 and then you can get to 54th. county. look at this, the kennedy exit is blocked. tough go to the next exit as well. this is off the howard franklin northbound on 275. that's a look at weather and traffic. now back to gayle.

the search for an armed carjacker. it happened at the 24 hour walgreens in winter haven. this is surveillance video from the store. in the video, you can see a man walking back and forth. sandra hounder was in the car at the time and texting her son. she explains what happened next. -- >> i went to put my phone back into my purse to get out. and that's when my door was jacked open. it was pulled open. and he says, get out of the car. i couldn't believe it was happening. and he was waving the gun around. and he says, get out, now. >> highway patrol troopers spotted the car driving 1508 miles per hour near st. augustine. when they tried to stop it, the car crashed. they arrested 19-year-old john crist of st. augustine and a 16- year-old girl. investigators are now searching

he is considered extremely dangerous. the erin andrews trial could be headed to the jury today but not without a bombshell revelation. one of the witnesses in the case is now accused of watching the naked video of her in public with friends. neal peskin admitted he watched the video with friends but claims he did not play it. a restaurant employee claimed that he tweeted that he was going to watch the video if it was going to cost him millions. andrews is suing marriott for millions for allowing the stalker to book a room next to her's. a case management hearing is scheduled. she is facing first degree murder charges. there's also an internal affairs investigation going on in this case. records reveal investigators knew about the disappearance for nearly a month and there

8 on your side is following a frustrating situation for people already victims of identity theft. this is what they have to deal with now. long lines as they try to get things cleared up in tampa. 8 on your side's ryan hughs is following the story live from our tampa news center. ryan, some people are waiting hour, even days. >> reporter: candace, good morning. one woman was in line a couple days ago. the office closed so she had to return the next day. all these people have two things in common, stolen identities and now intense frustration. >> i had an identity theft in 2014, and i'm trying to get my income tax for this year and everything and i'm having trouble trying to get that. >> reporter: wow, what a pain. the long lines are filled with people whose identities are stole and the irs requires them to show up in person to iron out the details. this was the scene this week. and right now, there's no sign this will change before the end of tax season.

flight 370 disappeared nearly aboard. new this morning, astronaut houston. his plane landed around 2:00 this morning and he was greeted friends. kelly's return comes nearly a year after living in space. scientists will watch and monitor kelly to determine how it affected his health. already, they know that he is 2 inches taller. they expect him to return back to his normal height after a short time back on earth. and this morning, a couple is keeping a closer eye on their swimming pool after they found a gator taking a dip. we can't get enough of the video. laura and her husband discovered the gator after seeing bubbles coming up from the bottom. they saw the 300-pound gator

they can get their hands on. they left the scene and exchanged vehicles about a block away. the teen dubbed dr. love is back in jail. remember we told you about the south florida teenager accused of pretending to be a doctor? well, now he is facing five more fraud charges. he was arrested in west palm beach. investigators report the 18- year-old used a patient's bank information to pay almost $35,000 towards his auto loan and credit card debt. he was on house call when -- on a house call when he is accused of stealing the information. today judges will hear the nfl's appeal on the deflategate case. the nfl claims the new england patriot's quarterback tampered with footballs in the 2014 afc championship game.

brady could be suspend again. the verdict could take months to announce. people are keeping an eye on a volcano. people who live nearby are on stand-by, they might have to leave fast. would you pay your boss to get more vacation days? according to a new study, about half of workers would pay their company for extra days off. they would shell out $123 per day. look now for those planning to take a spring vacation. booking now might be the best time. nearly two-thirds of people will take a vacation. experts say travelers plan to book their tickets 30 to 38 days before trips which is right about now. and in fact, you can find discounts up to 29% on hotels and airfare. >> because gas is so inexpensive right now, a lot of

and look at this, it's 46 in inverness and brooksville, so yeah, i would need a light jacket for that. 52 in lakeland. 57 in sebring. 61 in st. petersburg. i checked in with my weather watcher bob in venice, cooler than yesterday too at 5 9 degrees. that's because of a cold front to the south. but this is actually average for early madge. through the day today, -- early for march. through the day today, low humidity. look at tomorrow, between now and 10:00 tomorrow, slight rain chance, about 20%. and that's going to lead to a clearing, gorgeous weekend. i mean, you can't buy better weather. mid-70s and low humidity. how about traffic on the 8s? well, traffic is looking good for the most part. good drives on the bay area -- on the bay area interstates. southern pinellas county, this is 18th avenue south right at 22nd avenue south. possible injuries involved in that crash.

it took a decade to finish and cost $4 billion to build. >> in two day, part of the facility will open. the transportation hub and shopping center was designed to honor those killed in the september 11th attacks. it will house 75,000 square feet of food and retail. the project manager claims it's like nothing else.

and then. the search is on for a teenager suspected in an armed carjacking in winter haven. police tell us that he is extremely dangerous. take a look at this surveillance video. it shows a woman pulling into the parking lot of a walgreens. we will explain what else we know about the suspect in two minutes. long lines and hours of frustration, that is what dozens of victims of identity theft are experiencing outside the irs office in tampa.
