you're watching news channel 8 today. >> good morning, i am candace mccowan. thank you for joining us. let's start by checking out the forecast, mark collins, what can we expect this weekend? >> it looks really good, in fact sunshine both days but if you are headed out the door you probably feel a little bit of a chill in the air, colder this morning compared to yesterday by some 11 degrees here in tampa. brooksville.

that came through yesterday has left us chillier this morning. 50 degrees in clearwater, 43 in inverness, but even though getting off to this cool start -- actually turning out very comfortable. by 10 am, 65, 75 for the high later this afternoon so that's right where we should be this time of year and then as we head in -- through the evening temperatures should not be quite as cool as what we're dealing with. in fact, tomorrow dealing with more mid-70 degree readings. enjoy it while it is here because we will be warming up this week. big warmup in-store in the extended forecast but for this -- attakora activities -- outdoor activities, sure looks good. a cop caught on camera . evicted violently out of the cruiser and kicking him while on the ground. officer williams was suspended for a day but now the victim, kevin mccue, watson off the streets. police arrived after mccue got into a heated argument with his date.

an investigation but the -- attorneys say this isn't the whole video. mccue and his attorneys say the paramedics simply stood by and watched. >> they were standing right there. they saw what happened. why are they lying? >> the officer admitted to using expense -- excessive force. officer williams didn't follow protocol and they said he's getting extra training. they said he was in talks -- mccue was intoxicated and not cooperating. i-75 back open after a major backup. the crash slowed traffic on i- 275 near 54th avenue south. so far we know at least two cars were involved in one person was rushed to the hospital with injuries. they tell us there's also construction going on, which contributed to be major slowdown. sarasota county detectives need help finding this man, accused of taking pictures up a woman's skirt. this man went up to a 46-year- old woman at an antique store

her and started following her the victim discovered her taking photos of her skirt while her back was turned. when she confronted him he took off. o.j. spotlight. there may be new evidence in his murder case. the los angeles police department confirmed they are examining a knife that was turned into a retired officer years ago. a construction worker claims he found the knife buried in the ground when simpson's former state was torn down. former fbi special agent and special caught -- prosecutor todd foster believes there are many problems with be fined. >> first they have to find out if if nicole simpson's blood is on the knife or if ron goldman knife. if they find that then you are off to the races. >> they could confirm whether it's connected to the case. o.j. simpson is currently in prison for a separate crime and he

choose which presidential candidates they want to represent their political parties. donald trump, marco rubio, ted cruz and john kasich will kentucky and louisiana. sanders and clinton are trying to get supporting kansas and louisiana. this saturday. today he's in florida to hold a campaign rally at the university of central florida. for about 20,000 people are speak. he will appear in west palm beach later on this evening. the gop candidate just held a rally in new orleans right before today's primary and it got rowdy. protesters from the black lives matter movement interrupted his speech inside an airplane hangar. he's expected to win the majority of louisiana's delegates today. we're down to four candidates

persons campaign is officially over. he pulled out of the debate in detroit michigan. the focus now for the republicans is to catch up to front-runner donald trump. during the debate, marco rubio, ted cruz and john kasich pledged to support the billionaire if he's nominated. what they don't want is a contested convention. my -- strategy is vote for me in florida, but everywhere else too. >> if the washington dealmakers try to steal the nomination from the american people i think it would be a disaster. >> six states and puerto rico vote today and tomorrow followed by another four on tuesday. a frightening scuba diving experience, an intake pipe sucked in a florida diver. he's suing florida power and light. christopher mccune was dining the east coast. they spotted a yellow buoy marking three massive submerged structures. they decided to dive in and check it out and that's when

there are millions of jobs available across the country but many simply don't have the skills to fill the positions. we did some digging and found that thousands of students in tampa bay are figuring out how to nab those high-paying jobs without the cost of a college education. >> the name of the game for many students is to get their knowledge now. they get paid for it and down the road is opportunity. they weld, draft, study architectural design -- all classes at tampa bay tech. >> there's a lot of fields out there i've always wanted to do like welding in learning how to mix concrete. >> reporter: thousands of students apply to this magnet high school every year, and they don't even realize probably when they get here that having this knowledge is a great earning potential. >> without a doubt.

today and tomorrow, there will be thousands of people out there at curtis and park. it's quite fun. we have the lightning taking on arena. puck drops of -- drops just after 7 pm. it will be backed up around there about an hour before an hour after the game. before the game if you want to go a little bit early, if you are heading out there to see the bolts, check out the craft beer festival. it's beer week in tampa and here at the okeechobee parks, it will be packed with people, hundreds of different types of craft beers. that's between 2:00 and 5:00 p.m. today. also, let's talk about baseball. spring training is here. you get to watch baseball outside. steinbrenner has the yankees taking on the red sox.

1:00 so expect the highway to be packed about an hour before and again about an hour after as well as heinz and also martin luther king tends to get quite busy in that area too. the phillies are taking on the blue jays and that gets underway just after one -- at the auto exchange stadium and in sarasota the tampa bay rays will be taking on the orioles. this is a 19 at the stadium -- a night game at the stadium, so keep that in mind. this is the first weekend of the strawberry festival so expect extra -- extra traffic for that. that is on lemon street, you also notice sacks it gets a little bit busy. if you're heading to the movies, zootopia is opening as well as london has fallen and also whiskey tango foxtrot with tina fey. safely some popcorn. >> protest -- protecting your pet against boarding disasters. we recently told you about a

to get a dog sitter. how do you make sure the person you hire is going to take care of your pet? we have some 8 on your side tips. >> when you hire someone to walk or board your pet while you are away, you want to make sure that person will take care of your pet properly. there's a checklist of things you need to ask for, we -- so we went out and talked to a professional to find out what you need to know. she told us about anything else they need to be insured and bonded and they also -- also you need to ask a lot of questions. references. ask them what type of work they've done with animals. any questions you can think of. >> of course we know having a pet is like having a child so we want to make sure you do everything possible to make sure your pet is taken care of when it's not you taking care of them. back to you. maybe you are taking fido out for a walk this morning, a little on the cool side

-- the straits of florida. also back through the yucatan. upper-level disturbance moving through there. that is not here so don't worry about any type of weather from that system. powerful storm out of the atlantic moving away but what will come through tomorrow is the front. this front here doesn't have much moisture. it will push through dry and just keep the humidity on the low side. with low humidity temperatures could fluctuate quickly so cool nights and warm afternoons. today we will deal with his sunshine today, the front coming through tomorrow. as the front pushes by, as we head into monday, high out over the atlantic. really starts to warm us up and we will have a land breeze out of the east to southeast not just what had -- what's happening down at the service. high pressure could set us up for well above normal temperatures as we head through the work week. much warmer than 75 here today.

threat -- rise and shine, or just sit there and relax -- it's officially the weekend. taking a live look at downtown tampa. good morning, thank you for joining us here on news channel 8. it's time to check in with mark collins, he has the latest on the forecast. good morning, mark. >> good morning. a hot cup of coffee would be inviting since it's a little bit cooler today compared to yesterday, but a lot of sunshine to share with you today, anything tomorrow. the weather is definitely on a roll. what we are seeing outside is a nice start our day, blue skies marked by just a few high, thin clouds. 53 degrees there. this is really fantastic camping weather if you are going out to the myakka river state park. temperatures down there -- 55 inbreeding team.

north gets -- 55 -- in breedlove, 52 in apollo beach. really just your typical weather that you would see during march, temperatures right where they should be. we will actually get hotter than average here. a big warm up in store and i will be back to tell you about that in a bit. a carjacking suspect seen on surveillance forcing a woman out of her car. he's now behind bars. authorities caught up to 18- year-old william bradley at a hotel. he and two other teams are accused of -- teens are accused of carjacking her outside of a walgreens. we are learning more about the associate superintendent of operations, he resigned after accusing the former superintendent of sexual harassment. we discovered that greg rivers has quite a past. he was the subject of an internal investigation back in

university of florida. school stuff say they did a background records check on rivers but some say that that wasn't enough. >> we're doing the job that folks should have been doing. that's the greatest tragedy. while working at the university of florida, he admitted to having sexual relationships with three of his employees. the civil trial between whole coven -- hulk hogan will get the $100 million he is suing for. he is suing gawker for publishing a video of him having sex with the wife of tampa bay radio personality bubba the love sponge. we've been telling you about the long frustrating lines outside the irs office in tampa. they said help was on the way but when we stopped by, nothing had changed. we saw line stretched around the building. many came at the clock in the

get into the office before it closed at 4:30. the irs claims they are sending more people to the office to help reduce the lines. cruiser women -- removing the contaminated pipes in flint, michigan. they are targeting neighbors with high numbers of citizens -- senior citizens, pregnant women, or children. the pipes leaked led into the water after the city switched from detroit water to the water from the flint river in 2014. happening today, for more than two decades, news channel 8 outdoor expo and boat show has featured the latest and greatest in boats, accessories, fishing gear and apparel. but it's also a great chance for people to stay on top of their outdoor game. mary mcguire joins us live with more on on the great seminars that are happening there today. what have you learned, mary? >>hey, good morning to you candace, it's not just about all of the really fun toys that are here and there certainly

talking big boats, fishing rods, everything that the outdoorsman in your life would love to have. there's a lot of seminars going on over the weekend, more than 50, to really keep you on top of your game. there are going to be things about flyfishing, tarpon fishing, turkey hunting and snook fishing. and indicates quarter, kids can learn to tie knots and cast that's. you can even try scuba diving in a heated pool here called the be the diver pull. it's a great way to try out the latest scuba gear. -- the event runs from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 today and 10:00 to 5:00 tomorrow. it's free for kids ages 12 and under, $8.00 for adults. i have been in the fishing section here and i want to show you some of the cool things that i have found. i am not a big fisher by any means. i did -- i used to play the

the spaghetti warehouse announced it is shutting down. the restaurant says closing was a difficult decision, and it banks its customers for all the memories over the past 25 years. spaghetti warehouse officially closes on wednesday. in school is out for several colleges and universities. warm weather welcomes people to the beach but these residents are already enjoying time away from the beach -- away from classes, hitting the beach there. beach parking is always limited that there is an alternative -- the clearwater ferry. they plan to have extra officers on duty to keep an eye on the crowds. to make sure everybody stays under control. beating the heat is about to get a lot more fun. a giant waterslide is coming to tampa. this is video from the slide the city event in west palm beach. on may 14 -- they will transform

and so excited to spread the word about this -- the new home of the plan city community garden. on the campus of hcc's plan city campus. >> i was looking for a way to this is what you call a win- win. dr. martin clay is the president of the plan city campus. up until last year this was a teaching garden, run by the university of florida's culture program -- horticulture program but when that ended they needed new partners and it so happened the plan city community garden needed space. >> we are working to get it built. we're so excited that the opportunities here are beyond what it -- what we imagined could be available to us. >> you can adopt one of the garden beds which are 6' title' and grow your own vegetables.

in tampa. should be a nice golden glow out on the horizon with limited cloud cover, 64 during that timeframe, and when we look outside right now you can see it's cool to our north. we are dealing with temperatures some 10 to 15 degrees cooler than where we were yesterday. you might need that sweater here over the next hour or two. as we head through the day. high clouds streaming in over south florida, some of those coming into the bay area. upper-level disturbance rolling through cuba, causing the light rain. we straight -- stay dry in south florida, and now el nio really taking an impact on southern california. the northern portions of the pacific northwest have been dealing with heavy rainfall all winter, seattle the wettest winter ever and here you can see the band of rain coming through here. this is a comma cloud feature

down, so unusual rains fourth -- for southern california. but not here, all derived. pc the clouds -- all drive. -- unlike some friends, this one will come through dry and temperatures to drop a great deal behind it. in fact it tries us out even further, so we will see a rapid warm-up starting on monday answer most of the way, temperatures will be in the 80s, today we stop short, mid- 70s for us here but what's ahead is a big warmup. the forecast over the next couple of days. in fact temperatures will be warming into the 80s here as we head into the upcoming days and that's about 10 degrees above normal for this time of year. looking at above normal temperatures, dry weather, really delightful for spring training, baseball going around the area, strawberry festivals
