northbound side. let's take a live lookout here. looking good across the howard frankland bridge. only going to take you six minutes to cross it. and that's a look at weather and traffic. and now back to gene and gayle. >> thank you, leslee. right now a man who police say attacked a disabled veteran in front of a bay area walmart is on the loose. it happened last friday in broad daylight. news channel 8's jamel lanee' is live in suspect? >> reporter: good morning, gayle. they do. you know, they were able to pull surveillance video from walmart's parking lot camera and they were able to get a look at the attacker's vehicle. take a good look at it. detectives need your help possibly locating this vehicle and this person. and now police tell us that the attacker took off in the blue dodge. a witness said the plate began with the letters gka.

walking into the store located on 34th street north around 1:00 friday afternoon. he says this man approached him and asked him for the time and shortly afterwards, that's when he says he was beaten and choked. he says the suspect took his walker and hit him with it. he tells us he is lucky to be alive. and investigators say this person needs to be off the streets. >> lucky he didn't stab me or shoot me or something. >> my first thought, you attacking an elderly man with a walk senator get a job. >> reporter: he only has bruises and bumps and he is doing okay. police say that the suspect is between the age of 29 to 35 years old, about 6 feet tall and around 200 pounds. and investigators say that this was a random act but again they are asking anyone with information to call them. gayle-- >> with that surveillance video out, hopefully somebody comes forward. thank you.

guns are on the streets this morning and they could end up in the wrong hands. >> yeah, they sure can. and polk county investigators are scrambling to find them and the thieves who took them. news channel 8's meredyth censullo is in the tampa news center this morning. and you have information on a big reward and why investigators think these thieves are no amateurs. >> reporter: yeah, and deputies need your help because they don't have a lot to work with. this surveillance video in this case, it's pretty crummy. we want to show you it to anyway. this is exterior video at titan arms in lakeland. a brown extended pickup truck with chrome grill, chrome wheels and bumpers pulls up to the store around 2:30 a.m. sunday. four people wait 20 minutes and three men get out, smash the front window and rip out the burglar bars and take 26 hand guns and 10 long guns. polk county sheriff gracey judd says this was well planned. the men knew the store well.

one of the ferguson, missouri protest leaders was found shot to death. no word yet on a suspect who what led to the killing of 29- year-old. but police are investigating the incident as a homicide. he was an activist lead protests against police violent. a bank robbery suspect is dead, shot by police after this violent car chase. authorities were chasing the vehicle for about 45 minutes and then police in unmarked vehicles performed a pit maneuver. and they managed to stop a fleeing suspect and they shot into the vehicle multiple times. police claim they were

a minnesota man has confessed to the killing of of a 9-year-old -- killing of a 9- year-old boy. he had been missing for 27 years. the confession was part of a plea deal that calls for him to spend 20 years in federal prison. former stanford university swimmer brock turner registered as a sex offender in his home at a time of ohio. this is surveillance video showing the registration when the 21-year-old turn arrived sheriff's office. he previously spent three months in jail for sexual assaultly assaulting an unconscious woman on the stanford campus. a dispute between neighbors led one man to bulldoze john higdon's 10 home. he says his -- higdon's

parking lot at the walmart on 34th street north. and again, the victim who is 67 years old, jeffrey hardman says the attack happened in front of the store. he says he was in the parking lot on his way into the store when the suspect stopped him and asked him for the time. now he told him around 1:00 and he says he was brutally attacked. >> got on top of me and started hitting and hitting ground and takes my walker and starts hitting me with the walker. >> reporter: and the thief got away with hundreds of dollars, hardman's wallet and his walker. police say they do have a lead. detectives say they believe the suspect off in this blue dodge. a witness said the license plate began with the letters gka. now police say it was a random act. investigators say that the robber is a man between the ages of 29 and 35 and about 6

the country including the one in tampa bay are locked up tight. but hillsborough community college is helping students transfer into programs at hcc that might lead to a degree or some other type of credentialing. we spoke with one tampa student who was about to finish her nursing degree. >> whatever reason they had for closing, i just -- let the students that really want this, that really want their career finish. >> this is your heart and soul. >> e hard. you want to make a better life for yourself. and you want to reach that goal. and it's hard when somebody just takes it away from you like that. >> itt tech claims they closed because of major financial problems. in just a few months, construction will start on a rope adventure and zip line course in largo. city commissioners approved the deal with the bradenton company to build the new attraction. we flew drone 8 over the highlands recreation complex

listen to this. a scary situation for a 12-year- old in south florida when a burglar broke in while the child was still inside and the home. >> you have to take a look at this video. the crook slipped inside and through the window. and then he snatches a laptop, jewelry and passports. the boy says he was inside and his room watching tv when he heard a knock at the front door. the boy saw the burglar break in and ran to the bathroom. that's when the thief told him to stay there. when the boy felt safe, he dialed 911. >> must have been so from social media to word of mouth trying to find the owner of this flag. it was folded on the side of the road. and his mission is going viral. he was driving on u.s. 19 when he spotted a flag in a triangle fold and pulled over. he picked it you have because he believes it probably belongs to a veteran who served our country. >> for some people, it's spiritual. it's a spiritual relationship, i'm sure.
