what federal investigators are testing from that envelope right now. good evening everybody, i'm rod carter. thank you very much for joining us this saturday night. we are tracking hurricane matthew for you tonight. matthew was brewing in the atlantic ocean. it is one of the strongest storms we have seen since 2007. now, the category 4 hurricane is headed toward jamaica. people there repairing by stocking up on all the necessary supplies. in kingston, people are buying water and flashlight forecasters say hurricane matthew will make landfall on jamaica's southern coast which is where the only oil refinery there is located. it will be hiting the island monday. let get the latest from meteorologist ian oliver. i heard you say the track had come in. >> good news there with an update from the national hurricane center. just came in moments ago. the storm maintaining its intensity at 150 miles an hour. the latest forecast track pushed slightly east. we will show you that coming up
earlier this afternoon. went out to sample the storms. winds close to 150 miles an hour. still a mammoth hurricane. it is a high end category 4 storm. 2 movement, north, northwest now at 7 miles an hour. the last update from the national hurricane center, the storm was essentially stationary so it has started that turn on off to the north now that will eventually take it up toward jamaica. d hurricane warning in effect. it is looking to move in as a category 3 hurricane. it could bring 15 to 25 inches of rain to haiti leading to flooding, storm surge five to ten feet possible with this. there is the long term forecast track. you notice the southeast coast of florida, now, out of the long term track, the cone of uncertainty there.
watch closely. rod? >> ian, thank you very much. we will check back with you in a few minutes. it could be another 48 hours or so before we learn what that suspicious substance was mailed to mosaic headquarters. this was after that sink hole opened up. jamel lanee has the latest on the investigation. >> reporter: we could learn as early as monday what the substance was in the envelope being tested at a lab. mosaic officials confirmed that their office received this threatening letter containing a suspicious substance. a hazmat team, the fbi, and the hillsborough county sheriff's office responded to the scene late friday evening. a field test was done on the substance with negative results meaning nothing dangerous was detected. following our reports that 215 million gallons of radioactive
they began testing the wells of nearby homes. we spoke with the attorney who represents three of those neighbors who are now suing mosaic for not notifying the public about the sink hole. >> it puts mosaic on notice. it puts mosaic in a position of now having to take corrective action in advance of the problem. apparently, they didn't, or we wouldn't have had this problem. so, this lawsuit, the reason we filed it, was intervention. >> reporter: as for the powdery substance, results will take 48 to 72 hours to process. while we wait for the results of the test, we are working to learn if authorities have any leads in this case. reporting in hillsborough county, jamel lanee, newschannel8. saint petersburg police tonight investigating the death of a man found floating in a lake. the 60-year-old victim was discovered at booker creek park on 13th avenue north. foul play is not suspected at

hall's main arteries when a 14- year-old opened fire on a playground there. jacob passed away this afternoon and the shooter killed his father just before he drove to the school and committed that shooting. he is now charged as a juvenile with murder. officials still do not have a motive why all this happened. the national transportation safety board still investigating that deadly train crash in new jersey. they have found a data recorder in the back of the train, however, now, they are trying to find that second one. and we are is very difficult because the site is still unsafe. these recorders should reveal how fast the train was going when it killed one victim and injured more than 100 others. new tests today suggest some mosquitoes in miami beach may still be infected with the zika virus. preliminary testing shows a new sample of mosquitoes from that area has tested positive for the disease. the tests still need to be confirmed by the cdc. if it is confirmed it would be

more information on our website, wfla.com. in saint petersburg, melissa marino, newschannel8. some folks get absolutely soaked the last few hours by slow moving thunderstorms along an old boundary. a front that dropped into the tampa bay area and stalled out along i-4 there. these are doppler estimated rainfall tallies. from the last 24 hours. and you see it right along i-4, two to three inch rainfall totals with isolated amounts higher than that. we had a flood advisory in effect for eastern hillsborough and western polk counties that expired 45 minutes ago. the heaviest of the rain has shifted south of the areas that got soaked. just light rain through most of polk county and hillsborough county. the far southern side seeing heavier rainfall. wimauma, cloud to ground lightning strikes.
where the focus is for the heaviest rain. a lot of lightning with an intense thunderstorm around. parish back toward bradenton. bay shore gardens. sarasota, too, before the rain got there, a beautiful sunset, though, michael sent this in from lido beach, sarasota. beautiful colors, clouds on the horizon. a beautiful shot. there is the old boundary lifting back off to the north. that will allow extra moisture into the tampa bay area to around 40% for the afternoon hours. we will be in a northeast flow tomorrow. storms that do form across inland spots, those will be drifting back toward the coast with time by the late afternoon in the evening, so our rain chances, 40% tomorrow. that will be primarily for the second half of the afternoon and the evening hours just like we experienced today. also, 40% for monday. we will start to throttle those rain chances back a touch thousand through the middle of the upcoming workweek.
weekend once drier air tries to make its way in here. scattered storms tomorrow afternoon. forecast high temperature of 88 degrees. another check of matthew, there's the key thing, that turn to the north, northwest has begun with a motion at 7 miles an hour. to the north, northwest, still maximum sustained winds of around 150 miles an hour. hurricane warnings up for jamaica. south western parts of haiti. a good portion of haiti. maximum winds of 125 miles an hour, category if hurricane expected to influence th and it will maintain category 3 status. you notice the cone of uncertainty doesn't indelude the florida peninsula anymore. but you don't have to be in the cone to feel the influences of the hurricane, we will track these very closely. you notice the consensus stays offshore. 13 named storms so far this year. five hurricanes, two major
