room language. good morning. welcome to news channel 8 today. i'm gayle guyardo. >> and i'm gene ramirez. thank you for joining us on this the friday morning. leigh spann is off but we have ed bloodsworth in the house. >> yeah, good morning, guys. the inland locations, you may see a few light drops. we have a few light showers from the east coast throughout the night. just a few drops on otherwise, the temperatures in the 70s. 75 in tampa. 68 in zephyrhills. and getting to 87 for today. and your mornings are likely to stay mild as well. we're talking about lows in the 70s. so above average temperatures as we head into the weekend, leslee lacey. >> 70s, how exciting. seemed like yesterday when it was scorching. >> yeah. well, traffic, we are heading off to a sad today.

and westbound i-4 connecting to southbound 275 is blocked. and so what happens is you're taken northbound on 275. we've got our photographer eric live on the scene. and what you are looking at right now is westbound i-4. as he zooms in, it's completely blocked. you cannot transfer to southbound 275. everyone is diverted northbound on 275. you got to go up to rt turned around. so add an extra 10 minutes on your commute. if you're leaving the house soon. we will keep you updated on this. this accident happened about an hour ago so it's going to be closed for a while. back to gene and gayle. >> all right, leslee lacey, thank you. and we are following breaking news. the man accused of hitting a 17- year-old girl on hillsborough avenue and leaving her to die posted bond overnight. investigators believe he was

struck and killed the hillsborough senior. she was on her way home from an after-school job. you can see the impact left on the hood of the car. it was a tip from the insurance agent that helped troopers arrest the driver. her family is devastated, as you can imagine. they gathered along hillsborough a two-day last night to remember -- hillsborough avenue last night to remember the teen. her mom and brother broke down in tears. they say news of little consolation. >> i'm happy that, you know, that they got him. but still not going to bring my sister back. she's not coming back. >> grief counselors were at hillsborough high school to help students. in your vote, it's a fight for womens' votes as donald trump responds to allegations that he made unwanted sexual

west wild hogs was transported back to florida after he and little becky lewis were found in memphis earlier this week. ryan hughes is live from the polk county sheriff's office. ryan, good morning. we are hoping to hear something from hogs in court because so far, he hasn't said anything. >> reporter: gene, good morning to you as well. yesterday, he was pressed by reporters about what happened but he did not say a word. >> why would you kidnap a 4-year- old girl? >> do you have anything to say to family? >> do you want to apologize to the family? >> reporter: that was our reporter trying to get answers from hogs but no avail. polk county sheriff judd tells us that he kidnapped becky lewis saturday morning and drove north on interstate 75. they were spotted in georgia and tennessee. a nurse at a memphis hospital noticed hogs and the girl after

cellphone and that nurse called 911. hogs was arrested and the girl was returned to her anxious parents safe and sound. right now, hogs faces kidnapping and auto theft charges. and we're told more charges could be tacked on when he goes before a judge here in polk county around 1:00 this afternoon. gene, back to you. >> we will be watching. thank you. a plant city man is headed to court this morning for this deadly crash. robert talent is accused of crashing a pickup truck into a home on orange valley drive in smashed up truck. the crash killed a 76-year-old janice folds. she is the wife of retired pastor reverend wyatt folds. she was in the front bedroom when the truck came plowing through. >> they were starting their normal morning routine and he was preparing to go to a bible study. his wife walked in to the guest bedroom.

behind her. >> the sheriff tells us that talent failed a field sobriety test. he is facing dui manslaughter charges and due in court this afternoon. a polk county family is struggling with the loss of their little boy. the 5-year-old was riding his bike with his 8-year-old sister when had he was hit and killed. this happened in lakeland. investigators believe austin crawford rode into the path of a truck. neighbors are struggling to understand. >> my little grandson said, he's five years old. >> little boy that you see all the time, that's happy and something like that happen, it's horrific. >> well, investigators tell us the driver who hit and kimed little austin -- hit and killed little austin is cooperating. the driver is not expected to face charges. let's get a check on the weather. ed, how is it going? >> not too bad many thorning. we-- too bad this morning. we have a few light showers.

second. but i want to take you through the day hour by hour. we will keep it slim this morning. and for everyone, only a 10% chance of seeing a shower this afternoon. with a high of 87. in clearwater, 78. waking up to 71 in venice. and the winds are light but they are coming out of the east, northeast. the flow continues. we've been in that for the last couple days. and our scattered cloudiness and a few hit or miss showers for today. so have the umbrella just in case to get caught under one of the showers. rain chances getting better for the weekend, but overall, low around 10 to 20%. so they shouldn't affect the roads too much in terms of rain this morning but it's already a busy start. >> it is.

the camera. this is the junction, westbound i-4. connecting to southbound 275. not going to happen right now. that ramp is going to be closed for a couple hours. motorcycle accident, unfortunately a fatal crash in the heart of the junction in down the town tampa. so traveling westbound i-4 which these vehicles are doing, you can't access southbound 275. you actually have to continue to northbound 275. and that will get you turned around at martin luther king and then you make your way back. and let's take a look at the live son talking about. eric, our photographer out there. again, this is westbound i-4 to the left. you can't transition to southbound 275. so the vehicles on the right are being detoured north. you have to turn around at martin luther king the it's going to the take time off of your commute this morning. no congestion yet though. that's a look at weather and traffic on the 8s. back to gene and gayle. >> thank you, leslee lacey.

uncovering new information. the public transportation commission is in the middle of the battle to keep uber and lyft off the road. but news channel 8 has uncovered emails that reveal a close relationship between the ptc and the businesses that they're supposed to regulate. emails to ptc director include talking points about how to the argue against ride services. he claims the emails don't determine his recommendations. well the tampa bay lightning start the season with a win, beating the detroit red wings at amalie arena last night. the game started slow though with the red wings taking an early lead but the lightning powered through. in the 3rd period, steven stamkos passed to score the go ahead power play goal giving the lightning the lead.

two deer the at an educational center for hillsborough students are found dead. and wildlife investigators want to know who killed them. buckky and row -- bucky and rosey were found dead a little more than a week ago. officials are appalled. >> yo a senseless act. >> yeah, i've been with the agency 39 years. >> authorities tell us they were in a secure pen and were used to being approached by people. across america, the man accused of driving the wrong way on a vermont interstate killing five teens will be arraigned today. he is charged with second degree murder. police claim he drove the wrong

with teens. this happened just outside burlington. he is accused of stealing a police cruiser after the deadly crash and driving that the wrong way again, slamming into at least seven other vehicles. parents in ohio are on edge this morning after a drive-by shooting outside of a school. a 12 and 15-year-old were shot as school let out for the day. they are listed in stable condition. investigators are now searching for the shooter. parents are well, an elevator tragedy in new york. a 6-week-old baby in a stroller fell down an elevator shaft. she died when she and her mother fell eight stories on to the top of an elevator car. it happened as they waited for the elevator on the 23rd floor. when the doors opened, the mom stepped forward but the car was not there. investigators claim crews were repairing the elevator but did not post any signs.

are bracing for more flooding brought on by hurricane matthew. the tar river is expected to crest today. already thousands of homes are under water. the storm is blamed for 22 deaths in north carolina and north carolina's governor fears more could die as the flooding continues. talk about a giant gator, this could be the biggest ever captured in the state of texas. would you look at this guys, trying to put up a fight there. crews pulled the reptile out of a it measures 13 feet, 8-inch, and weighs more than 900 pounds. i guess it's true, everything is really big in texas. crews removed the alligator after complaints that it was getting aggressive with people. it will now live at an alligator theme park. we will keep you posted. >> what is up with the shirt around his eyes? >> i don't know, they didn't want him to see where he was going. >> poor alligator. the anti-shopping on thanksgiving day movement continues to grow.

office depot will keep its doors closed. last year, the company offered thanksgiving day sales. and office depot explains you can get still good holiday deals online. more than two dozen retailors claim they'll be closed on thanksgiving day. a lot of people pushing against that. >> office depot, i was going black friday there. >> what do you buy? >> staples. >> paper clip, woo. >> yeah, thumb tacks and whatnot. >> because they're so ex from last christmas. don't want to think about that yet. make sure you grab the umbrellas this morning, especially in polk county. we've had a couple spotty showers slide in from the east coast. we have one south and east near auburndale. it's very, very light stuff this morning. and the rain chances are going to stay slim for us today. 72 now in fish hawk. and 68 in inverness.

climbing above average again. we will get to 87 degrees. the rain chance only around 10%. as this easterly flow sticks around, and dragging in moisture off the atlantic. but with drier air aloft, again, these will be quick moving showers. and they won't have much energy to them and they'll quickly slide in and then rain themselves out. the best chances are the inland locations. that will continue into the upcoming weekend as well. rain chance up to 20% for saturday and sunday. and back down to 10%, highs in another check of traffic this morning. and let's check in with leslee lacey. well, the big problem remains in the junction of downtown tampa. here in the distance, the ramp from westbound i-4 that connects to southbound 275. you're not seeing traffic move beyond it. and that is because you cannot connect to southbound 275 from westbound i-4. you're taken off of the roadway. and you have to go north on 275. let's go to eric, our photographer live on the scene. this is a fatal accident
