> breaking overnight, the man accused of killing a hillsborough high senior in a hit-and-run crash is out of jail. he is charged with running down after-school job. the emotional vigil to remember a life cut short is just ahead. and deputies say he kidnapped a 4-year-old polk county girl and drove her across the southeastern united states. today we will hear what the accused abductor has to say for himself. the war of words intensifies this morning. how donald trump is lashing out at hillary rodham clinton and the first lady's strong rebuke to trump's so-called locker room language.
i'm gayle guyardo. >> and i'm gene ramirez. thank you for joining us on this the friday morning. leigh spann is off but we have ed bloodsworth in the house. f0 >> good friday morning. we are starting off fairly quiet. we have been tracking light sprinkle, mainly in the inland locations. but in downtown the tampa, we are quiet this morning. and you are starting off at 74 degrees. and we have a breeze out of the northeast at 7 miles per hour. cooler for inverness and brooksville. upper 60s this morning. and low 70s for sarasota we've got this continued northeasterly flow. and we have been stuck in this for the last couple days but with added moisture, we expect a couple showers to start moving in from the east coast. the it's going to favor the inland locations but we can't rule out a stray sprinkle back towards 75 and the west coast as well. 87 today. it will be warm for this time of year. and then coming up next, we will tell you if those temperatures start trending downward which is what we are hoping as we go through october.
but look at the congestion. this is westbound i-4. you can see those middle in a stand still. the left lanes kind of moving by. we have a fatal accident right at the transition to southbound 275. so that's blocked. and let's go to eric with a live look at the scene. and you can see, just beyond that congestion, it's clear. that's because you can't get by. you have to move to the right and i can show you how to get around this. martin luther king is starting to get busy as well. so i need you to allow for extra time. if you're leaving the house, leave like 25 minutes early. if you don't do that, take the selmon expressway instead. polk county, we have lanes blocked county line road at gateway boulevard. it's taken away.
busy out there in pockets. that's a look at weather and traffic. back to gene and gayle. >> leslee lacey, thank you. and we are following breaking news. the man accused of hitting a 17- year-old girl on hillsborough avenue and leaving her to die posted bond overnight. investigators believe he was driving this hyundai when huh struck and killed the hillsborough senior. she was on her way home from an after-school job. the hood of the car. it was a tip from the insurance agent that helped troopers arrest the driver. her family is devastated, as you can imagine. they gathered along hillsborough a two-day last night to remember -- hillsborough avenue last night to remember the teen. her mom and brother broke down in tears. they say news of the arrest is little consolation. >> i'm happy that, you know,
she's not coming back. >> grief counselors were at hillsborough high school to help students. the school plans to remember her with a moment of silence today. > in your vote, it's a fight for womens' votes as donald trump responds to allegations that he made unwanted sexual advances on women for decades. >> this as first lady michelle obama criticizes trump saying en the news center. the first lady generally avoids direct attacks on candidates. it was different this time around. >> reporter: yeah, that's right. the first lady says she can't ignore comments made by donald trump more than 10 years ago. on the campaign trail for hillary rodham clinton in new hampshire, the first lady slammed trump's comments as locker room talk. and she told the crowd electing trump sends the message the to our children that everything they're seeing and hearing is okay.

voters is bringing the vice presidential candidates to our state. republican governor mike pence will campaign in pensacola and miami today. tim kaine will attend an event in palm beach county tomorrow. and happening today, the man accused of kidnapping a 4- year-old polk county girl and driving her all over the southeast is due in court in just a few hours. west wild hogs was transported back to florida after he and little becky lewis were found in memphis earlier this week. polk county sheriff's office. ryan, good morning. we are hoping to hear something from hogs in court because so far, he hasn't said anything. >> reporter: gene, good morning to you as well. yesterday, he was pressed by reporters about what happened but he did not say a word. >> mr. hogs, this 4-year-old, why would you kidnap a 4-year- old girl? >> do you have anything to say to family? >> do you want to apologize to
reporter trying to get answers from hogs but no avail. polk county sheriff judd tells us that he kidnapped becky lewis saturday morning and drove north on interstate 75. they were spotted in georgia and tennessee. a nurse at a memphis hospital noticed hogs and the girl after receiving an amber alert on her cellphone and that nurse called 911. hogs was arrested and the girl was returned to her anxious parents safe and sound. kidnapping and auto theft charges. and we're told more charges could be tacked on when he goes before a judge here in polk county around 1:00 this afternoon. gene, back to you. >> we will be watching. thank you. let's get a check on the weather with meteorologist ed bloodsworth in for leigh spann. >> yeah, a bit of a mild start here on your friday morning and we've had a few light sprinkles overnight. you may notice a couple drops on the windshield but not
your headlines. the october warmth. temperatures going to stay above average. and we've got some slim rain chances as we go through today and the weekend. and also, got red tide issues for pinellas, manatee, sarasota county beach and that will continue through the weekend. hour-by-hour, the numbers slightly above where we should be for this time of year. but long-term, those numbers will start to come down. in fact, we are a-okay by monday, tuesday and wednesday. temp should be at 85 degrees. and then they may go below average by the end of next week. and rain chances look to stay fairly slim. at least we won't have rain for the commute this morning. >> that will be nice. that's one good thing that's nice. not a nice commute. we have big issues. come over here and check out the maps with me. this is westbound i-4. we are starting to see quite a delay here as you move into the junction. i will go ahead and show you. look at that, just creeping
blocked at 275 southbound. you have to go northbound. and now it's happening, that exit ramp to martin luther king, that's really backing up because people want to exit and then come around and get back on southbound 275. so allow for a good 25 minutes for this. and that's if you're leaving the house right now. it's a fatal crash. going to be closed for a while. you can take the selmon expressway instead. and let's look closer. this is our photographer out not getting by there. you have got to go over to the right and get on to northbound 275. really it takes you out of the way. and there's a lot of people headed into the junction right now. let's go back to the maps. and we have issues going on elsewhere. as we move over to polk county, right at the county line road, possible fatal crash here at gateway boulevard where we have the lanes blocked. and also moving over now into brooksville, u.s. 41, the intersection taken away at
injuries. and that's a look at weather and traffic on the 8s. back to gene and gayle. >> thank you, leslee lacey. > a plant city man is headed to court this morning for this deadly crash. robert talent is accused of crashing a pickup truck into a home on orange valley drive in lakeland. you can see the big hole and smashed up truck. the crash killed a 76-year-old janice folds. she is the wife of retired pastor reverend wyatt folds. she was in the front bedroom when the truck came plowing through. normal morning routine and he was preparing to go to a bible study. his wife walked in to the guest bedroom. and he said, i wasn't 10 steps behind her. >> the sheriff tells us that talent failed a field sobriety test. he is facing dui manslaughter charges and due in court this afternoon. a polk county family is struggling with the loss of their little boy.
when had he was hit and killed. this happened in lakeland. investigators believe austin crawford rode into the path of a truck. neighbors are struggling to understand. >> my little grandson said, but, he's in a better place. he's five years old. >> little boy that you see all the time, that's happy and something like that happen, it's horrific. >> well, investigators tell us the driver who hit and kimed little austin --hit and killed the driver is not expected to face charges. 8 is on your side uncovering new information. the public transportation commission is in the middle of the battle to keep uber and lyft off the road. but news channel 8 has uncovered emails that reveal a close relationship between the ptc and the businesses that they're supposed to regulate.

two deer the at an educational center for hillsborough students are found dead. and wildlife investigators want to know who killed them. buckky and row -- bucky and rosey were found dead a little more than a week ago. officials are appalled. >> you saith a senseless act. >> yeah, i've been with the agency 39 years. >> authorities tell us they were in a secure pen and were used to being approached by people. across america, the man accused of driving the wrong way on a vermont interstate killing five teens will be arraigned today. he is charged with second degree murder. police claim he drove the wrong
this happened just outside burlington. he is accused of stealing a police cruiser after the deadly crash and driving that the wrong way again, slamming into at least seven other vehicles. parents in ohio are on edge this morning after a drive-by shooting outside of a school. a 12 and 15-year-old were shot as school let out for the day. they are listed in stable condition. for the shooter. parents are demanding extra security. well, an elevator tragedy in new york. a 6-week-old baby in a stroller fell down an elevator shaft. she died when she and her mother fell eight stories on to the top of an elevator car. it happened as they waited for the elevator on the 23rd floor. when the doors opened, the mom stepped forward but the car was not there. investigators claim crews were repairing the elevator but did
north carolina residents are bracing for more flooding brought on by hurricane matthew. the tar river is expected to crest today. already thousands of homes are under water. the storm is blamed for 22 deaths in north carolina and north carolina's governor fears more could die as the flooding continues. talk about a giant gator, this could be the biggest ever captured in the state of texas. would you look at this guys, trying to put up a fight there. a lake east of houston. it measures 13 feet, 8-inchs, and weighs more than 900 pounds. i guess it's true, everything is really big in texas. crews removed the alligator after complaints that it was getting aggressive with people. it will now live at an alligator theme park. >> must be eating a lot of biscuits and everything they serve in texas. >> what do they serve there?

weekend. highs stay in the mid-80s. and another check of traffic on the 8s this morning with leslee lacey. well, behind me here, we are stacked and packed now. westbound i-4, all bets are off on westbound i-4 into downtown. don't leave the house 30 minutes early, take the selmon expressway into downtown. hillsborough avenue, martin luther king is busy because the traffic here on westbound i-4 is diverted northbound on to 275. and then they're exiting at martin luther king because they want to turn around back on. look at this, in the distance, okay, this is northbound and that is people exiting off on to martin luther king so very busy there. and we've got, look at that, a 30 minute delay through ybor city. it's a mess. again, don't take westbound i-4 into downtown the tampa, take the selmon expressway instead. save yourself the hassle. all right, let's move over here, county line road at gateway boulevard, possible fatal crash and taking up part of the intersection at the polk county line. also, over in the brooksville

well, there's more to new cars than that new car smell and the shiny paint job. the 2017 models are showing off some pretty neat features. many alert you when the vehicle is drifting out of the lane and automatically adjusts cruise control speed based on distance between vehicles. and another feature becoming more and more common. it allows you to open the hatch or sliding door by waving your foot near a sensor. that comes in handy if you're carrying the little ones home from school or whatever. and talking about the little ones, you know, they can make a mess in the car. >> yes. >> check this out. it has a built-in vacuum. where does the junk go? that's a chore for the kids, to empty out. >> it's a chore for the parent, we all know it.
