a driver tries to lure a girl into his van. a pasco county community wants him found and want him found right now. good evening. i'm thank you for joining us this sunday night. >> pasco county sheriffs' deputies on the hunt they say for a man that they say tried to lure a 15-year-old into his van. >> newschannel 8's chip osowski joins us loud from bartlett road in holiday where the man was spotted. what are the new developments at this hour? >> reporter: authorities asked for residents along this stretch of roadway to look at any video from their surveillance cameras and that
this morning deputies released pictures of the van in question. deputies had a hunch a surveillance camera at a home on bartel road captured pictures of the van, they were right. an older model blue van with front end damage, also missing a hub cap on the left side. should be a pretty easy vehicle to spot. >> there was a 15-year-old girl who was approached by a man in a van. it was a vague description of the van. she was kind of shaken up and she didn't engage with the stranger. >> in this area? i wasn't here last but i had seen it would have done something like it. >> reporter: people like vincent are concerned. what did he want? what would he have done if the teen took him up on the offer for a ride >> should be a concern to everybody. if i catch him i'll hurt him. but i mean if i see his van, that van you showed me i will
arrested. >> take another close look at the van. if you spot it call authorities. detectives want to speak to the driver before he approaches someone else who might not do the right thing. and simply run away. >> we want to question him and if anything we want to -- it's for public safety. >> reporter: deputies are also urging parents to talk to their children. let them know it's not ok to approach a stranger or talk to a stranger. and not ok to go with a stranger. and obviously report any suspicious activity. >> this young lady did the right thing not getting into that van. chip osowski reporting live. thank you. a fiery car crash in brevard county traps a driver inside and we have new video of the first responders rushing in to save him.
>> [screaming] >> jesus christ - he's in the car! >> dramatic video. this happened on dixie highway and palm bay. several people helped pull the officers and the driver to safety. you can see them linking arms to get there. the man went to the hospital. and tonight we're hearing that he is going to be just fine. down to a story happening now -- pasco county deputies are also looking for a shooter tonight. investigators say several people were outside of a home in holiday, a car stopped and opened fire on the group. that shooting took place in the 5200 block of tammy lane. no one was injured and temperatures haven't released a description of the car. a driver is behind bars after he hate florida highway patrol cruiser in the middle of the night. investigators say kieran pitner was traveling on state road 54 in pasco county when he slammed into the cruiser. the trooper wasn't in the car at the time because he was
pitner now charged with driving under the influence and during a breath-alyzer test we're told he blew more than twice the legal limit. tonight a polk county family is out of their home after this fire torched their house. the firefighters rushed to put out the flames on 9th street in eloise, four people including two children were in the house at the time. in all this no one was hurt and the fire crews believe that braze started in the back of the home. the cause however under investigation. tonight the united states navy is investigating a possible missile attack from yemen on american warships. the u.s. defense official reports one of the ships spotted what appeared to be missiles on radar. being fired out of yemen. the vessel was not hit. one of those destroyers under u.s. command has now been targeted twice in just the past few days and as it sailed near that country. the state attorney's race in hillsborough county is turning out to be a heated one.
rape claims on the other. newschannel 8 spoke with both of the candidates. candice mccowan takes us inside the race. >> when i heard state attorney general mark ober decided to go easy on them i was scared. >> reporter: the ads all over local tv even in mailboxeses. claims of state attorney mark ober not pursuing rape cases >> i categorically deny his comments. >> reporter: the ads coming from the new face charging ober who has been state attorney in hillsborough county for 16 years. >> i've spent my career as a federal prosecutor with the u.s. department of justice. >> he's not from here. he has never stepped in a state courtroom. >> reporter: the heated race has him on defense defending the fact that hillsborough county has one of the highest rates of charging juveniles as adults. >> it's a policy that is proven counterproductive in the long run and extremely expensive. it's something i would remedy.
rate of juvenile direct files has decreased in the last several years by about 53%. >> reporter: warren making serious claims about ober's treatments of rape victims. >> he was suggesting a victim shared blame. as one national press outlet called it rape culture in a nutshell. >> he's distorting the truth. >> reporter: voters decided to go with what they know in mark obre or give chance. >> as you know the campaign trail is heating up all over the country. tim kaine made campaign history in miami today. he is now the first presidential candidate to deliver a speech entirely in spanish during a spanish language church service. >> buenos dias. >> he spoke before the congregation at numa church. senator kaine focused on his runningmate hillary clinton and

out of the roughwaters. meanwhile the firefighters there warned the surfers not to go out any more but the man claims he has 30 years of experience windsurfing and the waves were too good to not take advantage of. washington residents starting to clean up after an ef-2 tornado touched down. shop owners and volunteers are working to make repairs before the next storm hits. a construction crew traveled from a nearby town to help for free. one worker says he was just ve >> just thinking of home the whole time. i wish we can go to help. so glad the boss sent us out today. >> strong gusts of wind made it difficult for those volunteers and the homeowners to do the jobs they needed to do. animal shelt initials virginia are making room for homeless pets in the wake of hurricane matthew. they are having a real problem there trying to find homes for them. the dogs and cats are coming from parts of north carolina and south carolina. the pets moved up north to

he's hoping tonight's visit may change her mind. about our city and tampa bay. i just read we had a high of 90 degrees. it was on the paper this. in terms of our shower shower activity with max defender 8 we're picking up a few showers with da it's been the flow of the last couple of days because we're in the easterly flow. a few isolated showers remain around wesley chapel and west of the area. land o' lakes, light stuff but a few showers like this are still possible in the evening forecast so no, with the easterly flow you can still develop a few more showers. these are up and down the nature coast fairly light at the moment. farther south as well you can see south of northport a few showers, southern sections of sarasota county a few showers in and around the area.

afternoon. 87 degrees at 4:00 p.m. 80 largo. now 78 palm harbor. upper 70s and low 80s about does it to polk county, lakeland to lake placid and up to brooksville. so fairly mild evening for us. winds continue primarily out of the east. we're getting stronger gusts here. you can see 18, 20 miles per hour especially out in lakeland. closer to where the winds are stronger. a few pop-up clouds on the visible satellite imagery. drier air aloft should limit the amount of shower activity. it's taken over the southeast including most of that cloud activity well off to our east. if you're a fan of hurricane nicole and why not? it's not affecting anyone, going to stay well out to sea with 80 mile-per-hour winds, forecast to move to the northeast as you can see here. so again of no consequence but a reminder that the hurricane season is very much in place until the end of november but obviously gets res active. for the rap model for the short term. nothing doing this evening. looks quiet and quiet overnight
