>> bye. ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? good morning i'm gene ramirez. >> and i'm stacie schaible. two polk county high school students killed this morning in a crash on u.s. >> eagle 8 hd is live over the scene. you can see that pickup truck pretty banged up. another two cars there on the roadway. and emergency responders there working that scene. this is on highway 27. it's shut down. it has been for several hours now. this did happen earlier this morning. the sheriff's office tells us the teens killed in the crash are 18-year-old jorge and his 15-year-old sister, melanie.

they were in their jeep headed north on u.s. 27. the sheriff's office says they drifted into the southbound lane and were hit by a chevy silverado. the three men in the truck are expected to survive. again, as you look at these live pictures from eagle 8 hd over the scene at u.s. 27. you can see how banged up that suv is as well as the truck. the school has a grief counselor on site this morning to talk to students and staff in need of someone to talk to about a terrible day for friends and loved ones of these young victims. u.s. 27 is closed but expected to reopen soon. we're going to head to lee span for a check on the weather. >> max defender 8 confirming what we all ready knew. it's been dry all morning long. it's been dry all week long. and that's not expected to change. look how beautiful it is now for the famous tate in brandon at the appliance and bedding

it took 60 firefighters to get the fire inside that 14,000 square foot metal structure under control. they found dozen of animals dead inside, birds, cats, dogs, and a monkey named ringo. the owner tells us he ran an animal rescue. >> i did have some animals here to give them personal care. >> they had access to fresh air and outside. we saw them everyday. and >> again, no word from authorities if it's okay to store that many animals inside of a warehouse, we'll keep you posted on the status of the investigation. new information this morning for those in need of help to clean up the mess left by hurricane hermine. fema granted an extension for national flood insurance program policyholders to file their claims. typically those with flood insurance through nfip have 60 days to file a proof of loss

loss. this 30 day extension makes it a total of 90 days to file. the florida office of insurance regulation paid out 6,776 claims out of more than 18,000 submissions. right now a warning as parents send their children to the bus stop. pasco county deputies say a man tried to lure an 11-year-old boy as he walked to the bus. it happened in wesley chapel thursday morning. now the boy ran to hi opposite direction. the man is described as being 20 to 30 years old with olive skin, dark hair, hazel eyes and wearing a brown furry winner coat. and we know the names of the victims of a fatal house fire in sarasota. officials say the victims are 68-year-old benjamin, and his 68-year-old wife cynthia. their son ian was rescued. officials tell us the family was morbidly obese and the

rescuers to get in and render aid. the cause of the fire remains under investigation. on the campaign trail this morning, trouble for both presidential candidates in the final days of this very long campaign. but we are starting this morning with a scare for donald trump's running mate, governor mike pence, he is okay, but his plane had a rough landing. tracy pots is live in washington with the latest. >> reporter: oh >> reporter: republican vice presidential nominee mike pence is fine this morning after a scare. his plane skidded off the run way landing at laguardia airport. >> the mud splashed up on the windows. that was our first confirmation that we were off the run way. >> he rallies in pennsylvania today. while donald trump hammers the clintons in new hampshire, maine, and iowa.

neither the vice president nor clinton commented publicly on that report. president obama is going to be in orlando tonight. he will speak at a hillary for america rally at the university of central florida in orlando. according to the white house, president obama will make more appearances for the democratic candidate in these final 11 days of the campaign. the clinton campaign says the president will lay out the highest stakes of the election for florida families. early voting coue unofficial turn out in hillsborough county is close to 120,000 votes by mail. and almost 70,000 early votes in pinellas countyings more than 157,000 vote by mail ballots received. and 17,000 early votes have been cast. pasco, hearty, and highland counties have early voting starting tomorrow. poles open at 7:00 a.m. for the latest on this presidential election, visit our 2016 election guide.

early voting locations and the hours of operation. head to click on if news tab. then click politics. ride sharing services, uber and lyft have been a contentious issue. the public transportation commission is under investigation right now for possibly showing favoritism to cab companies. but in pinellas county, it's a very harmonious relationship. uber lyft and united taxi have new contracts with this new program gives low cost uber, lyft or taxi rides to designated bus stops to allow more citizens access to the primary bus lines the program launches in december. for those of you in tampa or saint pete using uber eats, get ready to pay more. uber will bring surge pricing to uber eats. they charge extra if orders are made during peek demand times and drivers are scarce.

students get federal loans erased in cases where there's been fraud and misconduct by the schools. in those instances, students can have their loans erased and put the colleges on the hook for repaying the loans instead of us, the taxpayer, they also ban schools from forcing students to sign agreements saying they will not sue over misconduct. power to the consumer, that's what the fcc says, its new rules on internet usage will provide. the commission just voted on new rules requiring permission if they want to track where you go online. things like web browsing and app usage history. stuff that you use everyday. right now your internet company can keep a record of every site you visit without telling you. that seems over due, doesn't it? well, i guess distracted driving has evolved over the years. >> it's something we've heard about for a long time. but it's not the way it used to be. for a while it was about texting, perhaps talking on the phone, now it's so much more.

keith cate and jennifer lee are on your side today at 5:00. some alarming new statistics to talk about this morning. the number of traffic deaths in florida is spiking. >> and distracted driving is to blame. but as news channel 8 reports, it's not just dr your teens might be using too. >> but it's also very popular apps that are sited for distracted driving. the department of transportation says nationwide traffic deaths are all ready up by 10% this year. and florida is among the highest on the list. with a 9% jump. insurance officials say when traffic slows down due to congestion, and we have plenty of that here in the tampa bay

crash. our eagle 8 hd got an aerial view just a little earlier this morning. around 6:20 this morning the brother and sister were driving to frost proof high school in their jeep heading north on u.s. 27. the sheriff's office says they drifted into the southbound lane and were hit by a chevy silverado truck. the three men in the truck are expected to survive. >> the school has u.s. 27 is still closed but is expected to reopen soon. right now the search continues for a man wanted in a string of killings, shootings, and carjackings. >> today is the fourth day of the man hunt and it's now expanded nationwide. the last time anyone saw this man was early monday 30 miles from the texas border in western oklahoma. he's wanted on multiple charges including two counts of first-

uncle. one oklahoma sheriff describes them as rage killings. even though the search is nationwide, the folks of luther oklahoma are very on edge. >> we've just been being a little more cautious about everything. you know. because you know during the day, when you live out in the country, you're pretty lax. but you're not when something like that's going on. >> deputies believe it's possible vance may have died if treatment for a gunshot wound that he suffered sunday during a shoot out with police. across america this morning, some dramatic dash cam video to show you here that captured the exchange of gunfire between a pair of officers. suspect feet away. the officer tried to pull over the suspect on a motorized bike for several traffic violations. the manmade a run for it. when officers caught up to him he shot at them. and that officer fell after a bullet grazed the side of the head. the suspect was hit multiple times and is now in the hospital in stable condition. we have more footage by police cameras. this time a body cam captures the t home fire. the first thing we see is a woman unconscious suffering from burns and that mobile home engulfed in flames. the officer instrucked residents to move back, explosions could be heard, that only made his warnings more urgent. >> get them back.
