raging apartment fire. the lives they saved before that building collapsed. >> this is the fox25 morning news. everybody. 6:00 on the button on this tuesday morning, october 13. hope your day is off to a i am gene lavanchy. >> and i am sara underwood. showers and downpours are on the radar. check in with meteorologist shiri spear tracking this rain. >> yeah, rain, thunderstorm, downpours. definitely going to be a messy morning over southeastern massachusetts. now the rain showers just south of you guys. i mean, we got a steady rain that formed over, say, the vineyard, nantucket, up toward the cape and plymouth. kind of patchy and lighter now. you can see how much more intense it is on the water and that stuff is all traveling in order ward. 62 in plymouth. very mild, very muggy, very foggy across southeastern massachusetts. 58 in boston right now. 45 in nashua, new hampshire. clouds are thinner as you go north and will thicken up through the morning commute and these showers all get
transplanted over southeastern massachusetts. by 8 a.m., showers potentially reaching up into boston and we will keep an eye on the entire coastline through the morning commute. and downpours, temperatures kind of staying steady for the next couple of hours. by noontime, mid- to upper 60s. of sunshine. second half of the day. 68 to 74, but we have that round number two of showers to talk about when we come back. now julie grauert with live drive time traffic. julie, you have closures because of an accident? >> yes, i do, shiri. we sent out an alert through the fox25 news app about this closure on 93 southbound in wyndham. road is closed near route 111 because of a tractor-trailer rollover. so there are some residual delays in that area. things starting to slow down a little bit near the cloverleaf but moving along at a decent pace. zakim bridge that volume picking up. live drive times.
not 130 minutes on 4, a technical issue. 19 minutes on the expressway. gene, back to you. >> julie, thank you. this morning, we have new video just in. car windshield shattered on route 1 in saugus during our 5:00 hour this morning. the driver was traveling southbound when the scrap metal fell out of a truck and hit the windshield. the driver was not hurt, but the truck kept going. we will be updating this investigation for you throughout the morning. we will also have following development out of bellingham where swat teams had to use flash bombs to take down a suspect in a stabbing overnight suspect in a stabbing overnight. >> the scene unfolding outside of a condo complex after 8:30 last night. fox25's jessica reyes joins us live at the bellingham police department where she is working to get more information this morning. jess? >>reporter: we are, sara. and we expect more information over the next couple of hours. but right now we do know one man was stabbed and rushed to a hospital in worcester. another is now in police custody this morning. take taking a look at some photos
and video from the scene. this was what we were seeing outside of the maple road condo complex shortly before midnight. there was a very large response there. the swat team also called in shortly before midnight. we have learned this morning that someone had barricaded themselves inside the condo there only coming out when the swat team use the flash bangs. that person has been taken into custody. all happened between 11 and 12:00 last night. at this hour they are working to get things confirmed. we expect more information from police over the next couple of hours, especially when the lieutenant gets in at 8:00 this morning. as soon as we learn more, we will pass that along with you here and online. live in bellingham, jessica reyes, fox25 morning news. breaking news in kansas city overnight where two fire fighters have died battling this massive apartment fire. the fire fighters were rescue the fire fighters were rescuing people from a second-floor unit
daniel miller is following the latest including condolence posted on twitter this morning from local fire departments. >> that's right, sara, good morning. local fire departments like boston and spencer sending sympathies to missouri this morning. here is what we know at this hour. fire crews were dispatched to a building on the city's northeast side around 7:30 last night. here is the incredible video from the scene. when fire fighters arrived, the apartment building was heavily damaged. fire fighters started evacuating residents immediately. the fire crew says that crews were clearing an area with the partially collapsed when partially collapsed when roof when the rest of the building came down. >> they did not die in vain. they saved two civilians, carrying them out of the second floor on ladders before the wall collapsed. >> boston's fire department tweeting out their condolences overnight saying they are thinking about their kansas city brothers and sisters as they grieve the loss. none of the fire fighters have been identified as this hour. kansas city fire department
in about a couple of hours from now 8:00 and of course we will bring you those details. in the newsroom this morning, daniel miller, fox25 news. new this morning, police in hudson, massachusetts, searching for the driver responsible for a deadly hit-and-run. witnesses say a driver struck a man on a bike and left the scene. fox25's catherine parrotta is live at the police department where officers are in charge of the investigation this morning. good morning to you, catherine. >>reporter: good morning, gene. officials so far have been tight lipped of where this investigation stands. in fact the victim in all of this has been identified in the metro west daily news as being a 54-year-old from hudson. now i did go into the police department early this morning when we first arrived, and they told me they really couldn't give me any information at this time. i do want to show you this video. take a look. because it shows you the intersection where this crash happened. you can see memorial there on the sidewalk there at the scene. at central and apley street. and according to a tip from a fox25 viewer and report in the
daily news, this crash happened early sunday evening. the victim was reportedly riding his bike when he was hit by a pickup truck. the truck reportedly left the scene. in addition to talking with police fox25 reached out to the da's office but they are not identifying the victim or saying if there have been any arrests made in connection with this crash. the metro west daily news is reporting that police sent out a broadcast to look for a black ford f-150 with an extended cab and damage on the passenger side. police are not confirming anything about the vehicle this morning, but one thing that police did tell me to check in a little bit later. any information that could be released will be coming from the chief, so we will check in with him as the morning goes on here. for now we will have another report coming up next hour. and i am live here in hudson, catherine parrotta, fox25 morning news. this morning, brockton police say they have a good idea who is involved in a gun fight in a local neighborhood. witnesses say nearly 15 shots were fired just before 3:00 yesterday afternoon. the bullets came from two cars that were on packard street.
one person was shot twice. he was driven to a local hospital. two of the shots hit a home where a teenager was sleeping inside. >> i was laying down on my bed sleeping. >>reporter: and then. shots. seven constant and, like, a pause and another, like, six. >> the victim is expected to survive. cooperating with investigators, but they are now searching for officers. 6:08 this morning. happening today, two suspects arrested in connection with the murder and robbery of a marsh field man will be in court. michael moscatolo and had is girlfriend, lauren, are charged in the death of robert mckenna. he and another man are charged with killing mckenna. she is charged as an accessory. police are looking for other suspects. this morning police are searching for a suspect in a violent gas station robbery in bedford. happened at the shell station on great road. police tell fox25 that the suspect walked in wearing a mask and holding a knife.
>> a little scuffle between the clerk and the suspect, and the clerk was cut in the hand. >> police say if you happen to see the suspect, use caution, he is believed to be armed and dangerous. happening today, former patriots player aaron hernandez will return to court. this is the continuation of last week's hearing when his lawyers try to get a witness intimidation charge dismissed. that wit seasons hearns that wit seasons hearns's former right hand ha man alexander brandly. lawyers are trying to get evidence dismissed before he is tried for a double murder in boston. a registered sex offender denies approaching a young girl last month at the local barnes & noble. it is still under investigation by police. fox25 spoke with the girl's father off camera to protect the girl's identity. he said he called 911 after an uncomfortable conversation about his 6-year-old daughter with a man jammed james soren with a man jammed james sorenson. >> he checked her up and down with his eyes.
he said to me you are here with the pretty girl. i said yes, i am. >> sorenson did not want to go on camera but tells fox25 that the incident cost him his job. according to the police report obtained by fox25, sorenson admitted to police he called the girl "pretty." sorenson did time for sexually a child under 13. he has not been charged in this incident. new this morning, a former medical examiner claims he was bullied by middlesex county prosecutor. the "globe" reports it involves the case of a malden infant who died in 2010. the medical examiner initially ruled the case a homicide, but last year used new evidence to change his ruling to be undetermined. according to "the globe" medical examiner peter cummings said he felt bullied by middlesex district attorney marian ryan and her office. the comment was made in his notes on the case. he also said the conduct of prosecutors were unethical and unprofessional. the da's office said it is puzzled by the claims.
also new this morning, new hampshire's governor is asking for federal help to track the health impact of contaminated water at the trade port. maggie hassan sent a letter on the issue. stayed the state needs to keep watching the children exposed to chemicals in well water and already putting a strain on the state's division of public health. hassan said she is happy with the air force's response to the contamination issue but more funding is needed for that to continue as well. the body of a missing new hampshire woman is found weeks after she disappeared. coming up, the tip that eventually led to her remains and why her family claims police didn't look hard enough. and local teenager collapse and local teenager collapses and dies during field hockey practice. the picture that is helping her grieving family this morning. and we are checking weather and traffic every ten minutes. right now a 19-minute drive time on 93 south from 495 in andover to the zakim bridge. shiri shiri? >>shiri: the morning commute, temperatures in the 50s.

dunn suffered a massive brain bleed and she had no pre-existing medical conditions pre-existing medical conditions. her brother said a picture of her sister waving the american flag moments before she collapsed showed she died doing something she loved. >> i am very happy that she went out in such a happy place surrounded by people she loved in a place she loved doing something that she did love. >>sara: services for casey dunn will be held tomorrow and thursday. this morning, two lowell men rescued on a new hampshire mountain could face a hefty bill. the men hiked up to see the fall leaves. they tried to take the railway back down and it was sold out and they started hiking down and one man twisted his ankle. took conservation officers nearly three hours to get him down. rescue officials say the ill rescue officials say the ill-prepared leaf peeper should be fined $1500.
two people on the boat were already in the life raft when help arrived. no word on the cause of that fire this morning. a woman thrown from a horse in topsfield is recovering this skyfox over the scene at bradley palmer state park yesterday. emergency crews flew the woman to the hospital. they say that she broke both of her legs. boston bruins are now off to their worst start since 1999 1999. the only bright spot, captain zdeno charo on the ice against tampa. in the second, hingham native forced a turnover and beat tuukka rask and gives tampa a 3 tuukka rask and gives tampa a 3-2 lead. the lightning double up the bruins 6-3 the final. black and gold have now lost their first three games of the new season. all of them at home. >> good morning, everyone. it is 6:16. spent the last several minutes since i last checked in with you, checking out that drive time in the triple digits for 24, and because of two different accidents, we are seeing extreme drive times. right now, 7 miles per hour on 24 starting around the brockton area and continuing up through
randolph. this is one of the accidents. one lane is blocked right before the expressway on 24 northbound. expressway -- not right before 128 128. expressway starting to slow down a little bit. pretty typical of the weekday morning commute. here are those drive times and look that the, it has gone down to 86 minutes on 24. so almost an hour and a half. that is from 123 to 128 because two lanes are blocked because of different accidents. 39 minutes on 93 south from 495 to the leverett connector. 20 minutes on the expressway from the braintree split to the pike. meanwhile, meteorologist shiri spear joining us now and the drive times are not going to be helped by the rain that is come helped by the rain that is coming into town. >> no, especially travelers coming up from the south this morning. that is where we will have the worst of the rain and fog during the morning commute. more significant rain coming to town on friday and this time around widespread. what we get this morning will favor southeastern massachusetts into the weekend, looking at -- our last day in the 70s.
by the weekend waking up in the 30s. highs barely in the 50s. its going to be so much cooler and blustery. it will feel like fall. doppler radar right now shows that we have got pretty wide widespread rain across the vineyard. in there pockets of yellows which we have those downpours, and a little bit further to the west, new bedford about to take on this particular system. and this is going to bring us some downpours and even the risk of thunder and lightning here through the morning commute. that risk is going to exist as this area of low pressure passes its off the cape this morning. and by lunchtime, we will say goodbye to the showers and we are going to have to wait for that next system coming in from the west for the second round of showers later tonight. so chance of rain, highest south of boston today. that is where we are going to downpours today. i want to show that you hour-by hour-by-hour forecast and vineyard to 66 degrees.showers in place through 10:00 this
maintaining that risk for showers as well as thunderstorms and downpours into the afternoon. we will get into the upper 60s here. but the conditions will turn drier. in boston at 58 degrees. the risk for rain is going to be there this morning. we are not going to get as many showers coming in from plymouth showers coming in from plymouth, from the cape and the islands, and boston, 8 a.m., you are at risk for taking on some of those showers and should see a little less rain again. we just have lingering clouds that we have to get through. with you but not everybody is seeing this rain this morning. areas like nashua, new hampshire at 46 degrees. we have got a couple of breaks in the clouds and what you see on and off clouds through the morning. on and off clouds through the afternoon. temperatures work their way into the lower 70s this afternoon. this is going to be one of my drier spots. take you through it hour by hour because futurecast as i said in and out by 10:00 this morning show most of that rain pulling away. i do want to notice that future i do want to notice that futurecast has been a little
albeit slighter at noontime with us through noon across eastern massachusetts. there could be still lingering showers within those thicker clouds. check out central mass, western mass, southwestern new hampshire, partly sunny by noontime today and then at 5:00, on and off clouds with dry conditions to get you home. and the second front through overnight tonight that will stir up just a spot shower. not the same downpours and thunderstorms that we are seeing now. by the time you wake up tomorrow morning, a little bit of sunshine in place. we will have another disturbance though that will really kick up the afternoon clouds and bring us the slight chance for a wednesday. most of us will stay dry during the day tomorrow. temperature-wise today though, 70s out there. not all sunshine not all sunshine but we do have 70s. 73 in boston. 72 in beverly and plymouth. 69 degrees on the plymouth. 70 in worcester and 73 in nashua, new hampshire. tonight back to the 40s and 50s and we will slowly start to clear after midnight. by the time you wake up tomorrow, a little bit of sunshine. thickest clouds north and west of boston where we have a

white house in the next few hours, cnn will have a podium for him at the debate as well. the debate starting at 9:00. the u.s. military is sending more firepower to rebel forces in syria. yesterday american cargo planes topped 50 tons of ammunition to groups fighting isis to groups in syria. the pentagon focused on new rebels groups. now it is arming those already on ground. also yesterday, iraq's military announced a new offensive against isis forces in that country. new this morning the dutch safety board is releasing its findings since the downing of that lay shan airline flight 17. and in the past ten minutes, a relative of a victim on board says family says families were, quote, quiet as a mouse when they found out that a russian-made luke missile downed the plane. the report does not say who shot the missile, but a russian missile maker is saying it does not match up with findings from instance own investigation.
the plane was shot down over ukraine in july 2014 with nearly 300 people on board. many officials have pointed the finger at russia, but the new report will not delve into that report will not delve into that. they give a birds-eye view, but lawmakers are trying to put city offer restrictions on drones in restricted areas. they proposed the safe drone act. it was introduced after hundreds of incidents where drones came too close to airplanes. the law will make flying a drone within two miles of restricted airspace a misdemeanor. lawmakers need to be careful. >> the benefits of drones now outweigh the potential pitfalls of folks using them for the wrong reasons. >> faa say the number of airline pilots have risen from 238 to 650 in the first half of this year. well, you might have seen them in your local stores. boxes with bella bond's picture posted on the side. new this morning, the charity behind this collection and what people are being asked to put

look at these. nicking wood's hole down to the cape. we have a couple of separate risk for showers today. the first batch of rain that will impact us through the morning commute, especially southeastern massachusetts. temperatures starting out in the 60s if the southeast. although we have showers the heaviest rain still offshore just moving toward new bedford, we have got the showers reaching up to about brockton, scituate, hull, milton and foxborough. this is really light and patchy stuff here. knocking on the door of boston at 58 degrees right now. 53 in worcester. 47. just updated in fitchburg. 49 in manchester, new hampshire 49 in manchester, new hampshire. clouds much thinner this direction. southwestern new hampshire, i am getting the report of clouds out there right now. fog is a whole separate issue. a problem for julie as she is watching those drive times because i have visibility under a mile for most of southeastern massachusetts. showers south of boston. at noontime, most of the
clouds, 69 degrees. 73 at 3 p.m. with breaks of showers, but then this evening, round two of the rain and i will break down the timeline coming up. two accidents? >>julie: we have two accidents on route 3, shiri. one at 95 at lowell. another near treble cove road in billerica. that is north of town. as you can see, things are slowing down pretty typically on 93 south through the cloverleaf and into medford. this is where we are seeing headache drive times on 24 because of two different accidents there and at times, one lane and two lanes have been closed. average speed of 7 miles per hour. and live look right now at the zakim bridge where that volume is stacking up quite a bit. the live drive times. thankfully dropped down to an hour and eight minutes. we were up around an hour and a half. 54 minutes and -- 54 minutes on 93 south from 495 to the leverett connector. 26 minutes on the expressway
from the braintree split to the pike. gene and sara, back to you. now 6:32. we are following developing news out of bellingham where a man was stabbed inside a condo complex. >> a swat team was called out to that scene around 8:30 and took several hours for that suspect to surrender. fox25's jessica reyes picks up the story we have been on it since it was first breaking last night. jess? >> we have, sara, and we are expecting more information from police in the next couple of hours, but this morning, we know that the victim was rushed to a worcester hospital with stab wounds, and the suspect arrested at that scene shortly before midnight. is a stabbing leads to a standoff in bellingham. one man was rushed to the hospital and another is now in police custody. it all happened outside of this condominium checks on maple brook road. along with several local police officers. this was the scene outside of the condo shortly after 11:00 last night. rolled out on a stretcher. we know that he was rushed to
umass medical center in worcester, but this morning, there is no word on his condition. police say someone had barricaded themselves inside only coming out when swat team uses flash bangs. police immediately arrested him and right now we are working to learn what charges he may be facing. so the situation is still developing this morning. we know police, they are still sorting out some of the details. so we are still working to get some things confirmed, but we from police. coming up in the 8:00 hour, ands in we get that, we will pass that right along for you. live in bellingham, jessica reyes, fox25 morning news. breaking news morning in kansas city. two fire fighters are killed when a burning apartment building cos on top of them. two other -- collapses on top of them. two other fire fighters were hurt. the crew was in the middle of an evacuation. evacuating people from inside the building. the building started to collapse and the rest of the building fell down on top of them. >> they did not die in vain.
carried them out of the second floor on ladders before the wall collapsed. >> boston's fire department tweeting out their condolences saying they are thinking of their kansas city brothers and sisters as they grieve the loss. kansas city fire department is expected to have another update at 8:00 this morning. of course we will bring you those details. happening today, an autopsy will be performed on the body of a missing new hampshire woman found behind a wall in her home. fox25 has followed the case of sue hutchinson since her disappearance last month. yesterday her body was found in a crawlspace inside of a manchester apartment. investigators say hutchinson was killed by her roommate steven andrade that took his own life at a hotel in tewksbury. >> we are looking into whether or not whether or not he had been stealing from sue as is a potential motive. >> the family wants to know why police missed the body in prior searches of the apartment. investigators have a theory about how hutchinson died, but they are going to wait for the medical examiner to release an
a woman attacked by pit bulls recovering in the hospital this morning as police continue to investigate. all this happened on saturday inside this winchendon home. denise slager called for help and when they arrived, they had to break down a door to get to her. once inside they were forced to shoot a pair of pit bulls they say was on the attack. they confronted the owners about the dogs before, worried treated. >> if i see your dog out there again tied to a tree with no water and no shelter, i am going to report you. >>reporter: what did he say? >> he didn't say anything. >> that incident is still being investigated. no word yet if the owner of the dogs will face any charges. students in new hampshire will be back in class for the first time since a disturbing death list was found at a local high school. a student found the notebook with the list in class at nashua high school. the list contains names of several students, dates and times along with gruesome
cannibalism and nail removal. the school sent a letter to parents explaining the list was apparently based on a japanese anime. we spoke to one parent whose daughter name is on the list. >> it still makes her nervous that somebody dislikes her that much that they would put her name on that kind of list of a gruesome death for her. >>reporter: the parents say they have been invited to a meeting to get more information about the list. fox25 reached out to the school district, but they have not commented of the student accused of making the list. a hazmat situation at the noovrt of new hampshire and all -- at the university of new hampshire and all triggered by a text book. the hazmat team were called when a strong odor and smoke was someone put an old textbook in the microwave and the search for who did this and why.
after a man died following a struggle with police. it happened on sunday night. 38-year-old broken into an apartment building and they found him bleeding. officers used a taser on him. he later died at the hospital. no word on his name at this point. an autopsy will determine what killed him. a police officer caught sleeping on the job has been in trouble before. this t shows patrolman jeffrey moore asleep in his cruiser. the sun reports that moore was suspended on two different occasions by the department. one of those suspensions was also falling asleep on the job. moore is on paid leave from the police force. this morning a brookline fire fighters is acue -- fire fighter is accused of beating up a homeless man. the fire fighter got angry that the victim was take the victim was taking too long to offereder at a taco restaurant. fox25's michael henrich is live outside the restaurant where this all unfolded. michael? >>reporter: good morning, sara. he holds a position of bravery,
