so i am going to thicken those clouds by lunchtime today, upper 40s to the north and west of boston. lower 50s by lunchtime to the south and east and that is the time the winds will really start to crank down from the south shore to the cape and islands. 4 p.m. temperatures still teetering right around that 50 50-degree mark. highs today ranging from 48 to 56. breezy today. i am going to highlight some of those winds coming up in just a few. now let's send you over to jewel yule with live drive time traffic. -- julie grauert with live drive time traffic. where are things picking up? >> julie: things are picking up 93 south around the cloverleaf. as we shift south expressway, average speeds have dropped down to 18 miles per hour. you can see that slowing reflected in the brake lights that are bumper-to-bumper as you pass freeport street and the gas tank. live drive times. 13 minutes on route 1 from 128 to the tobin. 18 minutes on the expressway from the braintree split to the pike. 24 minutes on 93 south from 495 to the leverett connector. gene and catherine, back to

breaking news this morning. one person is dead. several others critically hurt in a crash on the las vegas friendship is. a woman drove her car into a crowd of people near the paris hotel and the planet hollywood resort. 37 people were hurt and the strip was closed as dozens of fire trucks and ambulances arrived on scene. police say they are treating this accident as an intentional act, but not an act of terror. witnesses say the driver made no effort to avoid the crowd. >> it looked like she wasn't trying to stop the car. she had both of her hands on the wheel and looking straightforward and men running after her trying to stop the vehicle. >> gene: the crash happened while the miss universe pageant was taking place. the driver just moved to the las vegas area. a 3-year-old child was in her car and was not hurt. we will have more on this breaking story throughout the morning. developing this morning in new hampshire, all public schools are closed in nashua after a violent threat is e-mailed in. >> gene: fox25 first breaking

stephanie coueignoux live at nashua north high school where this threat is being investigated by the fbi. good morning, stephanie. >> reporter: and, gene, that e-mail that was sent to the school administrator specifically mentioned nashua north high school which is where we are. and also mentioned nashua south high school. and just want to let you know in the last ten minutes, we actually saw a police car driving around the perimeter of this high school. meantime from what video we took last night, we spotted new hampshire state mruvrs and dogs -- police officers and dogs sweeping the school at that time. a threat was e-mailed in. they didn't say what specific threat of violence was in that e-mail, but they did that the e-mail said students and staff at both schools would be harmed today and as a precaution

to close all 17 schools. parents learned through a reverse 911 call and some parents we spoke with say this is understandably very scary. >> so many things going on -- sending my son to school and having that text is scary. i love my kids to death, and i can never -- i could never see myself put my kids. i will die with them. >> reporter: the fbi working with state agencies to determine the credibility of the threat and who sent this e-mail. the superintendent telling us that he hopes to resume classes tomorrow. coming up in 30 minutes, as well more details on who specifically received that e-mail and alerted police. in nashua, stephanie coueignoux in nashua, stephanie coueignoux, fox25 news. happening today a third person is expected to be charged in the theft of military weapons from a worcester armory. fox25 has obtained court documents identifying tyrone

federal prosecutors say he lied to investigators and was also weapons. the dorchester man is already in custody on unrelated charges charges. prosecutors suspect he may have sold some of the stolen weapons weapons. and former army reserve and former army reservist james morales is charged with stealing ten pistols and rifles from the armory. bigsby is accused of helping morales sell the weapon. tyrone james and bigsby lived new hampshire's governor is calling for a full investigation into the carbon monoxide scare in keene. six people were charged with gas exposure after a mixing issue at a plant. the cell phone video capture fire fighters going door to door to 1,000 homes making sure no one else was in danger. the man that took that video tell fox25 he is thankful the fire fighters acted quickly. >> that is pretty scary. i mean you think of everything that is happening and a lot more could have happened to these people. it wasn't more -- if it took more time for them to find out.

investigation, the governor urged all residents to buy carbon monoxide detectors. this morning federal work this morning federal workplace investigators are trying to figure out why a tire exploded at a local sears auto garage. it happened in salem, new hampshire. worker justin almond was killed when a tire exploded -- a truck tire exploded and hit him in the head. a customer was also hurt. sears sent fox25 a staimentd on the incident saying the company is working closely with investigators. there were no prior safety concerns at that location. a police chase crossed the state lines and ends in a crash. the scene in seabrook, new hampshire last night. police have covered the driver's side of the suv from view. this all started before 7:00 with a traffic stop on 95 south in danvers. mass state police say the driver took off across the driveway heading north into new hampshire. within 30 minutes that car crashed and no word on the driver's condition. the driver accused of cause

causing this head-on collision. ronald jarosz is accused of fleeing the scene and turned himself into police saturday morning. three people were hurt in that crash, two critically. a pepperell man is getting a mental health evaluation after he is accused of charging at a police officer with a machete. it happened at his home saturday night. a look at that large weapon. the suspect was holding that night threatening to commit suicide by cop. police used a taser to stop him police used a taser to stop him. the suspect's name has not been released but police say charges are pending. 6:07 this morning. the new england patriots now have 12 wins this season and they have earned a first-round bye in the playoffs. themates were in the holiday spirit and fans had plenty to cheer about. tom brady hits rob gronkowski in the end zone. we have seen this before. pats up 7-0 and never trailed in this one. second quarter, chandler jones with a strip sack forcing a

the ball bounces around and haki m hicks. the pats cruise to the victory. 33-16. the patriots hit the road and will face the jets on sunday. a presidential candidate now claims that some debates rivals. vermont senator bernie sanders say they put a debate on the saturday night before christmas to protect front runner hillary clinton. sanders said the timing to ensure there would be low view. he complained of a previous debate on a saturday night during college football season. last week, the dnc punished the sanders camp for breaking party rules for use of a voter database. two republican candidates will be in new hampshire today. former governor jeb bush is hosting a town hall in alton and tomorrow bush will appear at events in berlin and littleton. ohio governor john kasich will be from new hampshire today. the governor will be holding several events across the

he is attending a women for kasich event at the country club and hold town halls in rochester and concord. republican ben carson, chris christie and marco rube rubio will be appearing. all leading to the primary in february. new hampshire police could be the first in the commonwealth to wear body cameras on duty. the city council will vote to approve. council has approved a pilot program for the body cameras earlier this year. the officers used them for three months and responded positively to the cameras. >> we noticed when we go out and ma'am. knowing that you are being audio and video recorded. those few people on the initial stop hostile change their tune to be nice. >> gene: opponents of the body camera approval feel the cost of that, $300,000 could be better spent elsewhere. boston police have approved the use of body cameras. a south boston family who

from worcester where the homeowner says that suspect stole that box right after it was delivered and michael, you couldn't ask for a more picture of a suspect. >> reporter: pretty unbelievable surveillance system they have. that picture is crystal clear and this woman said she simply wants her christmas gifts back just days before the holidays. >> reporter: an e-mail alert let marcy barkowitz let her know that her package was delivered on time. but when she looked outside, package was not there. >> we looked it up on surveillance, there was the guy walking in, took my package, and walked out. >> reporter: the surveillance video show the entire grinch video show the entire grinchlike situation unfold. ups drops off the package. then a man with a cell phone on his ear passes marcy's house multiple times before walking up in broad daylight, looking right in the camera at one point, and walking away with a pack damage did not belong to

marcy tells fox25 the man seen in this green grab stole about $100 worth of christmas gifts with the holidays right around the corner. >> the fact that someone came their property to take. so whether it is $5,000 or $1,000. there should be something done. >> marcy told her if the person is caught, they would only face a low fine and misdemeanor charge. worcester police tell us they are investigating. live in worcester, i am michael henrich, fox25 news. the fbi now believes a foreign government is behind a massive security breach at a major tech firm. hackers infiltrated computers at juniper networks that allowed them to spy on secure communication. juniper supplies to the department of defense, the justice department and several big companies. the fbi says the hack is so sophisticated there has to be a foreign government involved. tonight a private space company will attempt to resume its rocket program.

massachusetts, it's stronger massachusetts, it's strongest for you with gusts up around 45 miles per hour this afternoon. winter soltice 11:48. finally officially the first day of winter that doesn't start until tonight, but absolutely no hope of a white christmas. i got no snow? the forecast but plenty of chances for rain. today that chance will be very low, but as we head into tuesday, i have got a lot of middle of the day rain. rain. i even have showers into christmas eve on thursday, so like i said, let's make the most of this dry weather while we can. if you have some last holiday shopping to do and if you have today off, this is probably the best day to do that. 38 degrees right now in boston. so that is the cool temperatures that we are starting out with this morning. 15-mile-per-hour winds will make it feel like only 29. so there is a wind chill that you have to factor in this morning at 8 a.m. actual temperature reading about 41 degrees. 45 by 10 a.m. noon, 49 and we make it into

clouds will thicken up. winds will increase this afternoon. hey, quite a bit cooler tomorrow. worcester at 33. you actually woke up to some freezing temperatures. so temperatures already on the rise. clouds are thin enough that you sure get a little bit of sunshine through them once that sun comes up with an hour but feels like 22 degrees right now. that is your wind chill. 36 degrees at 8 a.m. in worcester. by lunchtime, 45. and this afternoon, you stall out right there. that will be one of my cooler spots even for the second half of the day. breezy and warm weather sums it up beautifully here. a lot of those on and off clouds that we will see, but not very much in the way of any kind of green shading. i really don't have very much rain popping up. if there is a lonely shower, your best chance will be here in western massachusetts and southern vermont or southeastern massachusetts, because winds are coming up from the south and west. otherwise let's plan around cloudy skies developing this evening. by the time you wake up tomorrow morning, a couple of

this is not going to be very heavy tuesday morning rain, and it does turn heavier during the afternoon. future cast at noontime tomorrow. we have a pretty steady light rain but within there embedded pockets of heavier rain this go through. coming to an end around 7 p.m., that means the evening commute will be impacted by those rain showers here tomorrow. high temperatures today, 54 in boston. 56 norwood over to plymouth. 5 53 in beverly and lawrence. and worcester only at 49 degrees. and then tonight, we have near steady temperatures in the 40s. clouds really thicken up here. don't be surprised to find a little drizzle come and a much steadier, heavier rain during the afternoon and early evening the afternoon and early evening, but again we will make our way into the 50s. we have got this really warm stretch. the seven-day forecast with the weekend in view. more 40s on wednesday with a high of 56 degrees. that is night rain that will form.

with a high of 57 degrees. that will be record breaking warmth. and then on christmas at 59. it is not going to break records, but that is just as warm as it was last year, expecting partly sunny skies here on christmas itself. then as we head into the weekend. wake-up temperatures in the 30s wake-up temperatures in the 30s. highs around 50 degrees with a slight chance of a saturday shower giving you 20% chance of rain and a better chance we will see some of those sunday showers form. again high temperature around 50 degrees. so we have lots and lots of chances for rain here. as for those thursday temperatures, i know we are all looking at that and re-- our mind is a little bit blown and could possibly be december but until this forecast, the record high on thursday for christmas eve is about 61 degrees. we will have to see if we can beat it. back to you guys. >> shiri, thank you. >> a three sport athlete's life cut short in a car crash. new at 6:00, how friends and family are looking to preserve her memory forever.

things moving along fine on the allston/brighton tolls. 24 minutes on the expressway from the braintree split to the pike but up to 45 minutes on 93 south because of that accident, but i just showed you pictures of from skyfox. back to you. >> catherine: we continue to follow breaking news in las vegas this morning where a driver plowed into a crowd of people on the strip killing one person. dozens of others were injured in that chaotic scene. fox25's daniel miller joins us with the investigation under way and why police think this crash was intentional. daniel. >> daniel: catherine, good morning. police don't know why that woman drove into the crowd of pedestrians, but witnesses say it looked like she meant to do it. it happened on the las vegas strip near the paris hotel and the planet hollywood resort. 37 people were hurt. the trip was -- the strip was closed as dozens of emergency vehicles on the scene. you can see them here. the area -- they are treating this as an intentional act. witnesses say the driver made

>> he rode the sidewalk. came to a stop here at the paris intersection and she like -- people were punching the windows trying get the child out of the back seat. she accelerated again and kept mowing everyone down. >> reporter: the crash happened child the miss universe pageant was taking place. police are telling us that the drive just moved to the las vegas area. a 3-year-old child was in the car but wasn't hurt. the driver is being held at the clark county jail. they are awaiting results of blood test to see if she was under the influence of alcohol and drugs. we will follow this continuing story throughout the morning. in the newsroom, daniel miller, fox25 morning news. we are following developing news out of nashua, new hampshire this morning as all public schools are closed because of thefts. >> catherine: fox25 >> catherine: fox25 first broke this story out of new hampshire on our news app. stephanie coueignoux is live at nashua north high school where this threat is being investigated by the fbi.

>> reporter: catherine, on a typical day, school would start in just about an hour but no one in the parking lot in take one in the parking lot in taking a look behind me, you can see the doors are locked here at nashua north high school, and will remain locked today. all 17 schools in fact here in nashua are closed today because of that threat. right now as you next mentioned the fbi working with state agencies to determine the credibility of that threat and also who sent that e-mail. now we did ask if a student may have sent that e-mail. police told us at this point, they do not have any information that it was a student. and they are looking at all angles. and meantime, nashua police say a good administrator received that e-mail yesterday immediately calling police. police didn't say what that specific threat of violence was, but did tell us the e-mail stated that students at staff and narcolepsy and nashua north middle and high school would be harmed today. alermented parents through an automated call.

investigation. jess, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, gene. we know it happened inside this home on mount pleasant street in westport. the little 4-year-old boy was apparently trapped on the second floor and this morning the fire department is trying to figure out how that happened to figure out how that happened. >> he was such a sweet little boy. >> reporter: the unimaginable loss of his 4-year-old great grandson just five days before christmas. >> you never know from one minute to the next about your children and what will happen to them. >> reporter: his great grandson was killed in fire at his home in mount pleasant street in westport sunday night. a fast moving fire caught everyone offguard. his mother and sister were able to get out okay but caleb was trapped on the second floor. >> i was praying the entire time he was in that house that someone go and get him. please let him be alive. >> a neighbor ran in to save

>> he was heartbroken because he was so close probably, and toad get out, and he had to jump. >> reporter: and caleb's mother and sister remain at a boston hospital this morning. a fund has been set up for them and you will find a link on our web site at myfoxboston.com. live in westport, jessica reyes live in westport, jessica reyes, fox25 morning news. firefighters brockton say a 68-year-old man is the victim of a deadly fire. robert samuels was killed in a fire in a third-floor apartment fire in a third-floor apartment. samuels was a double amputee. the fire was contained to his apartment in no word on a cause and investigators stay appears to be accidental. a sturbridge man is recovering after his home caught fire. fire officials say a smoke detector likely saved the homeowner. the fire broke out around 1:30 at the snell street home. and crews arrived they found the man collapsed outside. taken to the fire department for smoke inhalation. the fire chief tells fox25 that

the house was under construction. >> you have dry wall on the outside. behind it are studs and channels that go from floor to floor. went dry wall is missing it has the ability for the fire to get into the channels and travel throughout the entire structure and that is exactly what we were encountering. >> a fire chief tells fox25 that the fire was likely an accident but the cause is still being investigated. more unusual items in the home of a man who stole human remains. police originally found shrines with human bones in the apartment of amador medina. police also found a pig's head, a dead snake and turtles in distinctive spots. medina said he was a santoria priest and used the human bones priest and used the human bones. the man that sold a gun for one of the bombers. was convicted on drug and weapons charges. during the trial of dzhokhar

tsarnaev borrow a handgun before the terror attack. prosecutors say that handgun was used to kill mit officer sean collier days after the marathon bombing. edward snowden is going to use video to give a speech to the new hampshire free state project convention in february. the group is trying to recruit liberty loving people to move to the granite state. snowden has spent the last two years living in roush shah on asylum. in 2008 he leaked millions of documents to a uk paper. a 9-year-old girl in weymouth is making a big gesture to children in need. giving them her own birthday gift. they posted her story and said she donated her gifts to toys for tots and this morning her story has gone viral. her mom said savana was brought up on a way that focuses on selfless acts. we track traffic and weather every tense minute.
