9:00 on december 31st, new year's eve. i'm julie grauert. >> catherine: i'm catherine parrotta in for gene. things starting to improve for new year's eve forecast. storm tracker meteorologist shiri spear here with timeline if you're going out to celebrate. >> shiri: lingering fog northern mass, southern new hampshire and drying out in a jiff here, couple remaining clouds over the cape, see those break apart as well, few freezing spots include bedford, massachusetts, nashua, new hampshire, even orange and a couple spots with potential of slippery sidewalks boston at 36 , so we are warming up, and by 11:00 this morning we are at 40 and check this out by noon time, it is lower 40s in boston and the suburbs. clouds continue to break apart so we brighten up pancreas nicely with sun and scattered clouds through the afternoon and more north you go 5:00 p.m. we have gone from highs in the 40s dropping back into the 30s in several spots, so plan 38 to 46 today turning nice and partly sunny, i will tell you

asued a bear and guessing these animals wrong, i'm truly embarrassed but i think they look great whatever they are here at copley square. first night it is the fortieth one here in boston, going to be a fantastic time. a lot of people making sure it is a safe day and evening as well. as you first heard in live studio interview on fox25 morning news yesterday, boston police commissioner evans says they are very confident in their security plan. they believe they have a good security plan, saturating "t" and stops as well as plain-clothes officers and drug sniffing dogs as you come down to the first night festivities. i spoke with the director of first night, just a couple hours ago here at copley square. he also expressed confidence in this security plan. >> security situation, boston
experienced and they get it and so we have -- we will have no problems with security this evening and i think it is going to be a nice show. >> michael: without security issues everyone can focus on good times. live stage starts at noon and 30 minutes go through the entire timeline of event a lot to look forward to. stay tuned to that. live on new year's eve on copley news. >> julie: new york city promises to be one of the safeet places to ring in 2016. official begin setting up barricades and checkpoints and thousands of people expected to see the annual ball drop alongside 5,000 police officers. julie: breaking news overseas about the paris attacks belgium prosecutors say tenth
morning. the man was borne in belgium and in his 20s. police arrested him in the same neighborhood of brussels where lived. investigators are looking at during the seven. the suspect will appear before a judge within the next few days. julie: also overseas brussels canceled fireworks display because of threats of extremist attack. the mayor of belgium's capital met with law enforcement and decided it is not worth the risk 100,000 people turned up for festivities and there's no way to check everyone. >> catherine: bill cosby is out on $1 million bail this morning, and here is mugshot after charged with assault. the comedian was arrested in pennsylvania for a crime that originally took place a decade ago. what's changed since first made. >> reporter: after years of denial and claims that the encounter was consensual. bill cosby for the first time faces criminal charges for the
pennsylvania woman. the charges coming after andrea constand, former temple university employee accused cosby of drugging web then assaulting her in 2004 when she visited the man she considered a friend and mentor at pennsylvania home. >> mr. cosby made two sexual advances at her that she rejected. on the evening in question mr. cosby urged her to take pills that he provided to her and drink wine. the effect of which rendered her unable to move, respond to his advances. >> reporter: though constand came forward in 2005, the district attorney at the time did not file charges. that same year constand sued cosby. the comedian then settling for undisclosed amount. legal documents in that case were unsealed for the first time
deposition made public. in it constand said she was given quaaludes. district attorney reinvestigating. >> victim frozen, paralyzed, unable to move. >> reporter: constand was first woman to publicly come forward and 50 women have 50 sexual assaults over a period of four decades, most involving the use of drugs. >> catherine: cosby maintains he is innocent and faces up to ten years in prison if convicted. >> julie: man that drove a car into a pond in hamilton will be in court. james chase walked out as fox25 saw him. chase was not hurt and car pulled have the pond a short time later.
when the crash happened. julie: more than 100 people on board a flight to maine woke up in rhode island this morning. the pilot of allegiance airlines plane was forced to make emergency landing at tf green airport last night. some smelled smoke in the cabin before the flight was diverted. >> my girls were sitting in the back interest and she said it was really, really hot and smelled like smoke behind their seats. >> catherine: firefighters were waiting for the plane when it touched down. the passengers have been rebooked on another flight which leaves in about two hours at 11:00 this morning. >> catherine: new this morning federal investigators say the mbta is not properly maintaining the subway and trolley tracks and becoming a big safety issue. fox25 jessica reyes is live in malden with a look at new report that isn't good news for commuters as we gear up for another winter, jess. >> jessica: no, it is not.
around maintenance. oak grief at end of orange line and a lot that we talked to and concerned about the upcoming winter. with the worst of winter still ahead, a brand-new report is out saying the "t" still has a long issue. >> i don't see any difference. the summer, last few weeks, they are always having a problem everyday. >> jessica: report was done by the federal transit administration, and they found a number of problems with the mbta specifically its maintenance plan and service providers with disabilities. riders we have spoke to say they are nervous ahead of the next few months. >> sporadic. never know if the train will come, you know. >> jessica: among the problems the agency found. they said the mbta lacks maintenance plans for subway and trolley tracks. the ride, which is the door-to-door service it uses for disabled riders and boston harbor cruises, which operates
the oak grove station in malden was mentioned by name in that report, saying it is not accessible at all for disabled drives right now. >> thin rash or space to get over to the elevator. i know they probably struggle to get over to the elevator and on and off of it. >> jessica: mbta says it will be extremely expensive to get everything up to par. coming up next hour how much they say it could cost. live in malden, i'm jessica reyes, fox25 news. >> julie: issue drivers could get pulled over tonight. drivers are only allowed to work there if they register with the city. former driver created an app that let's people request rides from unregistered drivers and pay for the ride on tip based model. officers say they will be on lookout for unregistered

braden wilcox of douglas woke up to a beeping sound yesterday morning and knew it was a the carbon monoxide alarm because of state-funded fire safety program he completed at school. his 15-year-old brother josh only person at home and ran to wake him up and get him out of the house. >> he saved my life. >> julie: he heard the beeping but half asleep and went back to bed. >> catherine: chief tells us firefighters smelled smoke and found the engine compartment on fire. they quickly moved the truck outside so the station wasn't damaged. >> bad time of year for one thing and we have -- we wanted to make sure didn't lose the station. guy awesome job putting fire out.

otherwise we are clearing out in favor of 30s on new year's eve and friday night, friday night, tomorrow night, i see some flurries, and possibly a snow squall or two in our forecast. nothing worthy of a snow map but just putting you on alert to the fact that we could see a couple of those snowflakes. a little bit of lingering drizzle down across the cape but as we lose the clouds we will lose that as well, clouds breaking apart, looking nice and dry at this point forward, 36 in boston right now, take a little bit of closer look there and as i said this fog has lifted, we are in great shape, you can see incoming sunshine this afternoon, at 11:00 a.m. about 40 , 43 at 1:00 p.m. and then by 3:00 p.m. we are up to about 43 still. expected to be in the 30s again after 5:00 p.m. tonight if you're going to be out there, it will be a little cool. cool spot, speaking of cool, worcester at 38 right now, look at where we get trapped today, upper 30s. that's basically it for the warm-up, losing heat here this
between seven and 9:00 p.m. we will be back at the freezing point in worcester itself. plymouth 38 if you're looking for a little more warmth, i suggest going south, that's where we have the warmest temperature readings today, 38 still comes with lingering clouds out across plymouth temperaturewise, how about 46 at partly sunny skies. take you through noon time and you could see clearing expands and continues, on and off clouds this afternoon, a little more cloud cover as you goat northward but at midnight we are dry, new england is looking picture perfect, you have to go all the way into northern new england see anything popping on radar. for the day tomorrow i expect we will have partly sunny skies, cloud cover a little underdone here with future cast, so let's count on on and off clouds through friday and here at 8:00 p.m. we have got a little bit of snow on the map between worcester and boston and that's denoting the chance for a snow squall as i said.
thing impacting only a couple communities and could bring you burst of snow, kind of tough thing to forecast and ingredients looking at friday night forecast with the tools. this afternoon 43 in boston and beverly, 46 in plymouth. 34 in boston but back to freezing point in beverly, portsmouth and lawrence, plymouth at 33, hyannis at 37 and we are even below freezing in bedford, touchdown, worcester 30 . tomorrow we will warm it back up to about 30 with on and off clouds and slight chance for a flurry or snow squall and then over the weekend both days close to 40 , going to be breezy and partly sunny, a little bit brighter here into your sunday but i know some of you looking forward to hockey here, winter classic tomorrow afternoon at gillette, it will be chilly and partly cloudy but yes, it will be dry.

his probation would be revoked. they were found after thisy ordered a pizza from a cell phone. >> julie: crash that nearly killed secret service agents. they were driving to wakefield, new hampshire on monday and with one car slammed into them. police believe the drive of the car, 45-year-old bruce dan ford, passed another car on the crash. police say he should not have been lend the wheel. >> mr. dan forth did not possess a valid driver's license at the time of the accident. mr. dan forth known to us and has extensive criminal history. >> julie: they are waiting for toxicology report. two police officers were seriously hurt and looking for the car that passed or what may have caused the crash. >> catherine: local mom shaken
her home while she was inside wealth her little boy. she says the man tried to get in while he was trying to bust through the ac unit when she was getting two-year-old ready for bed. when she heard the man trying to get in through the window, she fought back. >> i looked out the shade, and i saw a guy screaming and at this point he is pushing in ac at the same time i'm pushing out toward him. >> catherine: she says the man walked away and police have someone in custody this morning. >> julie: new report says mbta putting safety at risk by failing to maintain trains and tracks. fox25 jessica reyes live at oak grove station in maldonadoen. that's one of the "t" stops mentioned in this report. jess? >> jessica: it is, julie. and this new report says there are a number of issues with the mbta, namely with maintenance issue on its trains. now, the report was done by the federal transit administration
mbta, specifically maintenance plan and service providers with sixties -- disabilities. we have been talking it the riders at oak grove station and many of them say they are pretty concerned about the next few months after last winter. >> don't see any summer -- difference. >> jessica: boston harbor cruises which is the company that operates the mbta ferry boats. over the next couple of hours we have been talking to many customers here at oak grove and biggest issues they have here is lack of access for disabled riders. i'm jessica reyes, fox25 news.

heading to dinner on board the carnival ecstasy sunday night when they saw blood dripping from an elevator. the cruise ship couple says the crew member died while doing electrical work on the elevator. davis and family were horrified. >> to look and see the blood coming down from a sheet and not stopping. it was a real life scene of the shining. >> catherine: crew member's death is under investigation and carnival has offered to pay for counseling services for davis and family. >> catherine: strong turbulence caused plane to make emergency landing. air canada flight was on way to shanghai to toronto when the turbulents hit. the whole ordeal was terrifying 21 people got hurt, including three children. many suffered neck and back injuries. the plane was able to land safely.

here and seeing substantial brightening and last hour and boston looking real good as we head toward lunchtime today in favor of mostly sunny skies, off to the north and west i could see a little more cloud cover, especially along the mass, new hampshire border and overall keeping it partly sunny today out around keene we will have to watch for couple flurries and hit midnight tonight we have nothing going on. and quietest new year's eve you can probably remember. temperatures right around freezing, we don't have significant cold or wind chills or any kind of rain or snow accumulation. 36 right now in boston been there's a tiny wind chill, that's not enough wind for me to be concerned about later this evening. 11:00 a.m. 39 , how about lower 40s into the early afternoon where we start could go down around 3:00 p.m. so that means if you are going to be out there at 5:00 dress for 40 , 7:00 we have the 30s back in town.
i will see some of the coolest spots lingering here out across western massachusetts, central massachusetts, we got gardner, athol, rutland, worcester, westboro stuck in the upper 30s this afternoon, versus some spots from southeastern massachusetts which are going to be well into the 40s, bridgewater at 45, braintree 45, this is actually going to be pretty mild, above average temperatures for the last day of the year. boston gets up to 43 , 42 in framingham, 41 lawrence up to portsmouth, new hampshire. keene, you get stuck in the 30s out there, but nantucket about 50 . we got a decent spread in temps, this is what dressing for in midnight, 34 in boston, all the suburbs dropping down to freezing though from norwood 30, same in manchester, new hampshire, 29 degree reading in keene. and then we will be a little
