this is the fox25 morning news this is the fox25 morning news. >> julie: good friday morning >> julie: good friday morning. it is now 4:30 on january 22. i am julie grauert. >> daniel: i am daniel miller >> daniel: i am daniel miller. a massive winter storm is on our doorstep. millions of people are in the path of this. go to meteorologist sarah wroblewski in the fox25 storm wroblewski in the fox25 stormtracker weather center with what to expect here. sarah, this could still change. >> sarah: this storm is getting going and will continue to strengthen and develop over of the next 24 to 36 hours. so we will have to watch the path very closely because it is just a small shift, 50 miles, that we could see a significant impact or next to nothing, but, boy, is it really bearing down on parts of the southeast, as well as the mississippi valley with some snow, some ice. we have got heavy rain, even severe weather pushing through the panhandle of florida right now. the storm is about 539 miles away, so we are going to continue to track it as it gets closer, that northern edge. but what you need to know as you are stepping outside right now. it is cold, folks.
that wind is making it feel even colder. feels like the single digits. bundle up through the morning hours through the bus stop time temperatures in the teens, climbing into the 20s for your lunch hour, but, again, feeling like it is about 15 to 20 degrees, and then when the kids come home from school, a few more clouds dotting the sky and fair out there with sunshine breaking through. temperatures will be in the upper 20s to lower 30s. high temperatures across the region, low 20s the further north you go. 30s further south. we will be talking about more clouds to the south as we are going to be dealing with the clouds increasing ahead of that storm, bringing snow, wind, and coastal flooding to the region this weekend. those are our main weather threats. i will be breaking it down for you coming up in just a few minutes. but first a check of your traffic now with julie. >> julie: sarah, things nice and quiet at this early hour. pike moving along fine. framingham through newton and into boston. 93 south and route 1 also hassle-free.
connector are moving along fine. 24 minutes on the pike from 49 24 minutes on the pike from 495 to mass avenue. 9 minutes on the expressway from the braintree split to the pike. 22 minutes on 128 southbound from route 1 in peabody to the weston tolls. people in the mid-atlantic are moving fast and furiously to try to get ahead of the storm. grocery stores are sold out of bread in washington d.c. where they could have record snow. hardware stores can't keep rock salt or shovels on shelves. cities and towns are treating roadways now for what could be as much as 30 inches of snow. >> the words "cancelled" and "delayed" coming up on boards

new this morning, the wind new this morning, the windshield wipers on this jeep are swiping back and forth but it is not raining. the jeep crashed into an indoor pool. the owner had handed the car over to be parked when something went wrong behind the wheel. fox25's michael henrich is live in cambridge this morning where there is a huge hole now in a high-end building. michael? >> reporter: such a bizarre situation here on museum way in cambridge, and you can see the responders are still here. restoration crews working on this giant hole in this regatta riverview residences building. right now they are continuing to support the damage to that wall and make sure that it is secure here. but you can see what it looked like not long after the jeep did the damage around 11:30 last night. crews on scene telling fox25 that a valet driver here said the floor mat somehow messed with the gas pedal making it stuck, causing the suv to jump
condo complex's wall, into the lap pool into another wall and landing on its side in that two-lane pool. the valet driver was able to get out of the jeep on his own get out of the jeep on his own. treated at the scene by first responders at this complex -- excuse me -- that had some condos that sell for more than $600,000. this is a very high-end building with a valet and pool. all that said, we are continuing to work to find out how long these restoration workers will be out there before they give this wall the all clear and the security all clear, and, of course, we are working to learn more about the investigation into this crash as well. for now live in cambridge, michael henrich, fox25 morning news. it is now 4:36. and some developing news this morning. e-mailed bomb threats are being sent to yet another school district. there will be extra security for kids at cambridge public schools today. police say no evidence of real danger in any of the messages. just last month, police were called to cambridge schools multiple times for a series of threat against the middle
a threat in metheun is a copycat of all those e-mailed messages. administers say a 15-year-old left a note about a bomb in a high school to get out of class. the incident happened a day after the building was evacuated over one of those e-mail threats. in milford, students will be back in class following an e-mail threat there. we were on scene as police and the fire department searched the high school yesterday morning. the entire building was searched, but officials decided to cancel schools just in case. dozens of schools have been hit by those threats. the fbi is investigating. 4:37. the u.s. military says a team of marines missing off the coast of hawaii are dead. corporal christopher orlando of hingham are one of 12 marines that disappeared when two helicopters collided over the ocean last week. days searching for found. last night, the marine corps declared all 12 victims officially dead. two men are facing charges for leading police on a
started with an armed robbery at central market on washington street in norwood. two men entered the store, jumped over the counter and told the clerk she was being robbed. the clerk told fox25 they also attacked her. >> he tried to tase me, and i had a coat on, so i didn't feel anything, and when i didn't feel anything, i went at him, which i shouldn't have at him, which i shouldn't have, and that's when he punched me. >> the suspect led police on the chase that ended when they hate tree on kindle street in walpole. two other cars including a police cruiser were involved in the crash. one walpole officer was taken to the hospital for chest injuries but will be okay. mail delivery in four communities will resume after a hazmat scare. a brown substance was found on some of the mail in massachusetts. the state lab tests said it was sugar and alcohol-based glycerin. post offices took no chances when the brown goo turned up. delivery was stopped for the rest of the gay.

4:45 right now. >> julie: these little dogs are missing this morning. they were stolen right from their home in somerville. it happened on tuesday while pomeranian caesar and cleo were home alone. olga and chris believe the burglar broke in through a window making off with a few sentimental items and their precious pets. a neighbor captured this video. you can see the man appears to have the dogs tucked under his arms. >> i don't know what he wanted
feeling not knowing where they are. julie the owner thinks the thief has been watching their house and knew where the dogs lived because they play at the park across the street. they are posting signs around town and pleading on line for help. violent fights involving local teens are being post on facebook and police and school officials are trying to find the source. the videos first and on a page called worcester fights. it shows real fist fights at locations around worcester. some of the fights happened last school year. school leaders are trying to identify the fighters and investigators say some local mothers and fathers may also be involved. >> in some cases, we have parents who are taking their children to the fights because of a conflict their son and daughter might have had with another teenager. >> the facebook page was taken down for a short time after police started the investigation. it is now back online but under a different name. the time is 4:46. tonight, the boston celtics are home for the first time in a week. the chicago bulls are in town to face the cs.

i wish that could be sold off to someone. the things are nice and light. nothing slowing you down. 93 south also clear. a live look at the zakim bridge a live look at the zakim bridge, zakim bridge and leverett connector moving along without major issues. 13 minutes on route 1 from 128 to the tobin. 13 minutes from 495 to the leverett connector. 22 minutes on 128 southbound from route 1 in peabody to the weston tolls. big story we have today, though, is the storm this weekend. meteorologist sarah wroblewski in for shiri spear. sarah, a winter storm warning in effect now? >> sarah: a winter storm watch for the south coast, the cape and islands because the most likely area where we will see heavy snow develop and that will be one of our main weather threats. take a look at the conditions. sure enough, we will be talking about snow. i have it in the moderate category because there is still some uncertainty just exactly how much we will see, but it is sure that the further south you go, the higher the impact. and that's why places like
dealing with feet of snow as well as blizzard conditions. we, too, will have some winds, and in fact along the coast, that's why we have a moderate risk of winds. we could see gusts as high as 50 to 60 miles per hour. and, of course, those winds on shore going to churn up the sea shore going to churn up the seas and during the time of high tides this weekend, especially saturday night and sunday morning, we could see pockets of coastal flooding as well as beach erosion. here is our big storm system just getting going bringing ice and snow to places like little rock getting severe weather down to the florida panhandle. continue to push toward the atlantic coast, and as it does so, it will continue to strengthen as it pushes off the coast by early tomorrow. it is still over 500 miles away it is still over 500 miles away, and we are going to continue to track this northern edge, because that's what we will likely see getting brushed with just the northern edge of this system, but nonetheless, it could bring still a significant amount of snow, especially the further south you go. a winter storm watch will be
and continue through sunday morning for that heavy snow. it is just fine out there right now i want to point out. it is clear. we are talking about the calm before the storm. temperature is cold. 19 in boston with that wind out of the northwest. it feels like 5 degrees. so sure enough, bundle up this morning. feels like the single digits will be climbing from the teens to the 20s right around your lunch hour, and by the time the kids come home from school, upper 20s to low 30s with some clouds that will be blotting the sunshine but overall, it will be mostly sunny with highs in the 20s and low 30s throughout the day today. overnight, if you have plans, still looking dry. we will see clouds increasing. temperatures fall back into the teens and 20s. i want to point out as you go ahead and look at the future ahead and look at the futurecast through saturday, you will notice the snow will begin to move further north as we head through your lunch hour we head through your lunch hour. mainly get together mass pike. and this model may be a little address aggressive bringing up to the north shore by the evening hours, and the trend is, we are going to see that snow coming
overnight hours as the winds will be picking up and continue through early sunday before we finally see improvements by the mid-morning. and it is around that 11:00 high tide on sunday in the morning we could be talking about some pockets of coastal flooding. so likely snow. a coating to a couple of inches as you head to the pike. best chances higher amounts the further south you go. but we could see pockets of 3 to 5 inches, something we will have to continue to monitor because any slight shift in this storm the further north it goes will bump up the totals to the north and further south pushing them further south. the seven-day forecast with the weekend falls view. temperatures steady in the 30s. the snow arriving from south to north through the day on saturday continuing overnight and partly cloudy skies as the weekend closes. staying in the upper 30s to 40s as you head into next week. another chance of cold rain on tuesday. otherwise should stay fairly dry. i will bring you the updates coming up next hour.
