clear skies back in town this morning. what a great way to start the weekend. meteorologist shiri spear says we have got a nice stretch of weather heading into saturday and sunday, but some chilly temps as well. >> that's what we are dealing with this morning, right. temperatures running in the 30s. 34 in worcester. freezing in nashua, new hampshire. 38 beverly down to plymouth. 48 in boston and 40s for the cape. your hour-by-hour forecast does have a decent warm-up that doesn't take off until 8:00 this morning. 7 a.m., melrose. a.m. 42. 46 on tap for 11:00 this morning and highs that will track close to 50 degrees with a cup of scattered clouds popping up and gusty conditions especially day and island. how the winds impacting those wind chills and what to plan around today when i am back in 10. julie grauert up with drive drive time traffic north of the pike. >> julie: looking good route 1 from the north shore. no issues on 93 south through

somerville. expressway speed limit ride from the braintree split to naponset. 23 minutes on the pike eastbound. an easy 7 minutes on the expressway. 20 minutes on 93 south from 495 to the leverett connector. back to you. we begin this hour with breaking news. two college campuses, a police cruiser involved in an overnight crash. >> sara: all happened near wentworth technology and northeastern university. our catherine parrotta is live wher wentworth police officer, catherine. >> reporter: it happened just in this area that you see behind me. ruggles street that runs behind my. parker street that runs up and down. you can see this was the intersection where this occurred. tampa has been cleared right now and that is a good sign; however, the investigation does continue at this time. we don't have many details about what happened, but this what we know. the crash happened at the area parker and ruggles street overnight. our crew on the scene said an officer was in that cruiser.

minor injuries. take a look at this video, pause there was a second scene on mcgreevey way near parker street. several vehicles with their windows shot out. at this point we are working to learn how or if those incidents may be connected. as we mentioned where the cruiser was hit is right near wentworth, the campus here and near northeastern and right up the street from boston police department. so near a lot of different things here, and so we are still trying to peace together i checked for information from boston police department. i haven't seen anything just yet and we will continue to work on this for you. live in roxbury, catherine parrotta, back to you. new this morning, boston police are also investigating a shooting in dorchester. we are told that a male victim was shot in the face and chest at the corner of devon and normandy streets and a short time later a suspect was taken into custody. the officer on scene tells us that the victim is expected to survive.

under the knife for season-ending back surgery. the latest injury for the pats star, but the team and gronk's family say this is for the best. our michael henrich is live. patriots are thinking longen-term here. >> reporter: that is how fans are going to have to think of it as well. because the short term picture is not good for the patriots. the patriots and the gronkowski family released this statement detailing his -- the history of this particular injury a little bit and then continuing by saying this, and i quote, with the health patriots medical staff along account consultation of several medical experts, it has been determined it is in rob's best long-term have to undergo surgery to address his lower back injury. rob is expected to have surgery friday. we do not expect that he will be able to play for the remainder of the 2016 season, but will await the results of friday's surgery before making a final determination. now fwroj's quarterback, tom

"dawn of dynasty" starts at 10:00 sunday morning. developing news in lawrence, police are working to identify a headless body found along a river bank, and one local family are concerned it may be a teenaged boy missing for weeks. our jessica reyes is live in lawrence with some surrounding this body, jess. >> reporter: the body was found not too far along the banks of the merrimack river and the investigation is well under way this morning. the essex da's office said a woman was walking her dog when she found a decapitated body along the river bank and called lawrence police. friends and family members a team missing from lawrence since november are praying the body is not his. he has been missing since last

his cell phone, credit cards and social media. >> i just want to make sure that it is not him. because we want to from closure with this. he -- he has been gone and no word of him. and i am really worried. and concerned. >> reporter: and the medical examiner is now working to identify the body. police say that this does appear to be an isolated incident and they don't think there is any danger to the public, but, of course, the investigation does continue here this morning. sara, back to you. >> sara: will check back with you in the next hour. meanwhile a 18-year-old from brockton is being held without bail in the stabbing death of his own mother. franz polynice hid from cameras outside of his arraignment. they found him covered with blood and shaking uncontrollably. inside they found the body of his 44-year-old mother. neighbors told us they did not see any signs of trouble with this family before this hand. >> i would never think that he would kill his mother.

he didn't -- >> sara: polynice is due back in court later this month. a 13-year-old boy facing charges on raping a child. he was arrested at leary middle school in lynn where he is a student. parents there tell fox25 that nobody at the school told them about the boy's arrest. >> oh, my god, that's terrible. i never heard about that. my daughter is 14 and she comes here, you know what i mean. the principal and she declined comment. investigators and school officials are not providing more information on the case because it involved minors. donald trump will be back at trump tower conducting interviews for his administration, but last night the president-elect was in ohio for the first stop on his thank you tour. >> we are a very divided nation, but we won't be divided for long. i always brought people together. i know you find that hard to believe.

they believe those gunmen waited for an opportunity to pounce. >> daniel: frightening situation for the night clerk behind the counselor. clerk said he worked at the store for five years, and this was the first time he has been robbed. the robbery happened wednesday night at belvedere's liquors on concord street. the clerk was behind the counselor when one man in a scream mask and another wearing a ski mask burst in. one man had a handgun and they threatened him and told him to give them all the money in the register and took off with the cash and the bottle of hennesee. he told our ted daniel that the pair didn't seem to know what they were doing pop. >> reporter: did it seem like they were pros at this. >> no, seemed like they were pretty nervous. they both tried to come in behind the counter both at once, which that is a

surveillance camera captured the men hiding behind a car casing the store minutes before this robbery. police suspect the liquor store may not have been the robbers' original target. an hour before, a gas station clerk reported seeing two masked men hiding outside his it store in the centerville section of lowell. massachusetts state police are going high-tech when it comes to accident reconstruction. the state got a drone to help with those investigations. the state will show off t capability at gillette stadium. the drone will provide better evidence and help police clear accident scene faster. good morning, everyone. it is 5:15. we track traffic and weather together every ten minutes. a lot of green on the map. things moving along nicely on the expressway. 128, no issue there as you head from dedham through needham and up to the pike. north of the pike route 1, 93 south are clear. if anything happens, i will be hour to let you know.

is hit by a car. this happened in the area of parker and ruggles street overnight. this is right near the wentworth institute of technology. our crew on the scene says the officer who was in the car was taken away in an ambulance with what appears to be minor injuries. a couple of blocks from that scene, there were cars with their windows shot off on mcgreevey way. we are working to get more information from police of how the two incidents are connected and if there were patriots tight end rob gronkowski go under the knife for season-ending back surgery >> the latest injury for the pats star and the team and gronk's family say the treatment is for the best. our michael henrich live in foxborough, and michael, the pats have always insisted the next man up in these situations. >> reporter: we will have to see how bennett fairs with the sole responsibility as the starting tight end, but, again, a big situation for gronk in the short term and

success in any field. >> reporter: all eyes are on how the pats now respond on sunday and on gronk's long-term health and future with the team. this will be the third time that dr. robert watkins have performed surgery on gronk's back. live in foxboro, michael henrich, fox25 news. man in his 70s is under going surgery after a violent home invasion. three men busted into the brockton home and tied the man up using his own suspenders. the men beat him and shocked repeatedly asked him where the cold was. took the man five hours to get free and call police once those men left. we spoke exclusively with the victim from his hospital bed. >> i am 72, i can't be pouncing off the damn floor. i just pulled on my suspenders as hard as i could and i finally got them off. it wasn't easy. i had a knife and found it and cut them off. >> gene: the victim will be having hip surgery this morning.

loose. a trial date has been set for the mother of a murdered toler, bella bond. rachel bond's attorney and nor a status hearing. she is scheduled it return to court next month to prepare for her february 22 trial. they believe bond was an accessory in her daughter's murder. they believe her boyfriend killed the child by punching her in the chest and stomach. bella was first known as baby doe when her body was discovered near tier island last year. investigating ain't that sent three schools into safe mode. it started yesterday morning with reports of shots fired at the econolodge on route 1. police from both towns combed the area but couldn't find any suspects. one guest tells fox25 that he opened the door of his room to find heavily armed officers on the other side >> the next thing you know, there is a ar-15 pointed at my face, pistols and all kind of junk, and i am naked, just getting out of the shower.
