all lanes are back open this morning. also overnight, a car rams peabody. emergency crews had to cut the man out of his car. he was rushed to lahey clinic north in peabody. we have no word on his age or injuries. >> jadiann: a home in taunton goes up in flames. investigators heading back today to figure out what caused an neighborhood. >> christa: the woman who lived there escaped the fire but the home is a loss. let's go to jennifer eagan live neighbors. explosion. >> reporter: they did. they can't believe their neighbor got out alive. when you look at what's left, you can understand. this was a two-story house that ignited. firefighters were no match for taunton. neighbors along christine lane said at 4:00 they heard an

explosion. >> what we heard was a big boom. it sounded like a car had crashed. >> a woman was home at the time. neighbors say she ran out of the home with just seconds to spare. >> she was in a daze. she wasn't burnt but just kind of dazed and didn't know what was going on. >> gas crews dug up lines trying to figure out if that caused the explosion. >> it's being investigated as a possible gas explosion. >> jadiann: everyone in the neighborhood amazed the woman escaped without being hurt. >> i think the woman who lived here was very lucky. >> all i could say is thank you to the taunton fire department because i thought that whole neighborhood was going to go up in flames. >> reporter: the state fire official's office will be here this morning to investigate the cause. live in taunton, jennifer eagan, "7 news today in new england." >> jadiann: turning to the new hampshire race where the white house race is in full swing.

locked in a battle for the top spot among republicans. both have taken shots at each other and this morning trump is holding a town hall in at kin son, new hampshire, where we find victoria warren. >> reporter: a big morning here in new hampshire for donald trump. he'll be having a town hall meeting and a rally all before 9:00 a.m. donald trump coming off a weekend that he spent at a rally in florida. today he will hold a rally in atkinson, new hampshire and take part in an intimate town hall hosted by matt lauer and aired on the "today" show. similar to what they did for hillary clinton. this weekend, trump reacted to poll numbers in iowa that have him trailing ben carson. >> carson is lower energy than bush. i don't understand what's going on because we're going to talk

can't -- it doesn't follow schedules of primaries and caucuses and contributors and the like. it just -- everybody grieves at a different pace. >> christa: in an interview with 60 minutes, the vice president denied reports his son asked him to join the race before he died in may. biden says he decided not to run when he realized that he couldn't win. also this morning, everybody expected to be okay after a scary crash happened in canton donuts. crews removed the car from the washington street building sunday evening. the crash happened in the afternoon, though. police believe the driver accidentally hit the accelerator when she meant to hit the brake. she and the customer were taken to the hospital and they were not seriously hurt. >> thank god more people didn't get hurt. it would be a horror show. >> luckily there weren't other vehicles in the parking lot or other pedestrians walking across the sidewalk.

that's pretty much right where patrons will be sitting and waiting in line. >> the driver was not an elderly woman. officers are investigating the accident. >> jadiann: a developing story out of canada this morning. a tour boat tragedy after a whale-watching boat capsizes with 27 people aboard, killing at least five. kris anderson joins us live. >> a heartbreaking story. search and rescue crews are still looking for one person still missing. the vessel made a mayday call late saturday afternoon. this is a picture of that whale-watching boat from the company website. at least five people were killed, 21 others rescued. some of those people are being treated at a hospital but they're expected to be okay. the boat sank off the coast of a popular tourist destination known for whale watching off the coast of vancouver island. more than a dozen rescue boats,

night searching for survivors. personal belongings were scattered across the water along with an oil slick. investigators are trying to figure out how the boat overturned. weather was unlikely a factor because it was calm, clear and sunny yesterday. live in the control room, kris anderson, "7 news today in new england." >> christa: we're following more news. the woman accused of driving into a crowd and killing four people at oklahoma state university's homecoming parade will be facing a judge today. police charged 25-year-old adacia chambers with driving under the influence. her attorney doesn't believe she was drunk. instead he said she showed warning signs of a mental illness. the results of toxicology tests have yet to come back. four people were killed, including a 2-year-old boy when chambers plowed through the crowd in still water, oklahoma. dozens of other people were hurt. she faces four counts of

together. an amazing thing to watch. tomorrow we start with sun, clouds take over. middle 50s. then on wednesday, here comes the storm from the midwest. that will be an area of low pressure and it's warming cool fronts. first of warm front with a band of rain mid to late afternoon on wednesday. it's a fast-moving storm. it's going to probably throw about a half inch to inch of rain our way. since the first of september, many cities and towns between an inch and a half and two and a half inches of rain below normal. we'll have rain wednesday night and early thursday morning. it clears out thursday afternoon and that does include down at gillette for the game thursday evening then back at it thursday night, taking on the dolphins with temperatures at kickoff thursday at gillette mild. temperatures thursday evening low 60s. >> christa: we're hoping to start off your monday with a smile. compliments of jadiann. we're bringing back hooted who

whale-watching boat sinks in canada. search and rescues teams are searching for people. the vessel issued a mayday call sunday afternoon. it was a clear and sunny day so whether does not appear to be a factor. >> christa: also happening today, the woman accused of pulling the trigger and killing her uncle will be facing a judge later. police arrested her outside of a motel in peabody after a manhunt. let's go to nicole oliverio and she has the latest details for us. >> reporter: this uncle, a father of three, was apparently at the suspect's home because her parents wanted the uncle to talk with her. they believe she needed help and they say something went wrong inside the house, they just don't know what. roy lewis's heart is broken. brother-in-law is dead and his daughter accused of pulling the trigger.

motive. >> jadiann: also this morning, the mother who sparked a multistate amber alert heads back to court today to try to regain custody of her children. tiffany cherry, born and raiseddener boston says when a nurse near her home in pennsylvania told her her son needed to be admitted to the hospital she made the drive to boston. cherry says the colin called police and an amber alert was issued. boston police arrested her after she arrived at the hospital. >> my children were receiving substandard healthcare at best and i'm tired of it. i would never imagine this could happen in america in 2015. i have the right to seek the best care for my children. i have the right to that. >> jadiann: cherry has dealt with tragedy in the past. another son was stillborn back in 2009. she says that's part of the reason why she decided to go to boston children's hospital.

from bourne police custody will appear in falmouth district court today. cogger-shall turned him over to police. he was arrested friday night for outstanding misdemeanor warrants but investigators say he slipped out of the handcuffs and got out of the police cruiser before running away. cogger-shall faces charges of escape from police and destruction of property. >> christa: the ntsb is investigating the cause of a plane crash that killed a dentist from connecticut. it crashed saturday morning after takeoff. the pilot, 66-year-old gary weller, was the only person onboard and was pronounced dead at the hospital. a vigil held at the massachusetts maritime academy on sunday remembering jeffrey matthias, who once attended the afterwards school officials addressed the family and sent condolences. matthias was one of the crew

disabled train. >> christa: thank you. overnight, state police are searching for a driver who hit a man in saugus then sped away last night. investigators say the driver of a red car hit the pedestrian on route 1. and the man who was hit suffered serious injuries, was taken to melrose, wakefield hospital and all lanes of route 1 are back open. >> jadiann: overnight, a car rams into a pole on forest street and peabody leaving the driver unconscious. emergency crews had to cut the man out of the car. he was rushed to leahy clinic north in peabody. we have no word on his injuries. >> christa: overseas, a powerful earthquake between a magnitude 7.5 and 7.7 hitting northern afghanistan and cities across south asia. nbc news says at least 11 people have been killed in neighboring afghanistan. state run pakistani television says homes collapsed in a city in the eastern part of the country.
