and we haven't seen a lot out of this so far. this is just the beginning of what we are expecting throughout the day today, a lot more to come behind it. it looks like intermittent scattered showers on again and off again throughout the afternoon. clearing out by the evening commute. current temperature close to 50 in most locations. we don't have to contend with the wind like we did yesterday this afternoon. i mentioned unsettled weather with another round of rain tomorrow looks like we have to wait until the afternoon for that wet weather to have to turn back on. we'll cover that and run through the time line coming up in just a few minutes. time for fast track traffic. we still do have some incidents to tell you about and also the road looking a little bit wet out there. let's go to the maps we've been keeping an eye on the oil spill a car leaking oil all morning long. that's in woburn. we'll get to that in a second.

slowing down into boston. route one looking pretty good. here's the truck leaking oil blocking the right lane on 128 northbound that's right at win street. the back up to route 3. the pike is fine. you are stop and go from 128 to boston. the expressway still crawling northbound from the braintree split into boston. then another accident this one in weymouth on route 3 at route 228. let's take a look at the drive times if you get ready to head out the door. split to the tunnel 20 minutes into town on the pike from 128 to 25 minute. 19 minutes for 93 southbound. 128 to zakim bridge. we have moderate delays on the orange line. two young children are safe and sound this morning and back at home with their father after police tracked down their mother at a fast food restaurant. the children's mother headed to court today accused of not returning the kids to their facilitier and then disappearing for hours.

at mcdonalds drive through. as you can imagine their father is relieved following stressful and scary situation for him. jennifer eagan live in district court with the latest. jen, good morning. >> good morning. this mother is being charged with kidnapping by a relative. she will face that and other charges here at court later today. fathers apart from children more than 24 hours. finally he got the news he had been waiting for. after more than 24 hours missing, 5-year-old steven and 7-year-old eden are back home. i'm glad they are home safe. it seemed like it lasted a week long. >> sunday was steven's birthday. i had my cake right where i wanted it. his father who has custody decided to let their mother spend time with the two kids. police say she took the children at 1:30 in the afternoon sunday promised to return them but instead turned off her cell phone.

she's arrested monday evening 26 hours later. they found them. they are safe. i'm going to pick them up now. steve found out his kirds were safe and reunited with them after a state trooper spotted them at a mcdonalds. they were smiling and well. like i said they seemed like they were just away for the day. they are both excited about going home. while he was worried about where the kids were he wasn't concerned mcgrath would hurt them. that was only one thing keeping me strong when talking to people. thinking that she still loves the kids >> police did cite actions in statements mcgrath allegedly made in past few week as reasons why they were concerned. live in wareham, 7news "today in new england." fare fight at mbta commuting

expensive. and we are also learning now that some employees are racking up big overtime pay. victoria warren at the park street station with more details. nothing set yet. we learn that t rider could be facing a 10% hike and we're learning that as we also learn that some t employees are tripling their base salaries through overtime pay and in some cases exceeding 300,000 a year. this is all coming from the mbta fiscal control board. they voted to allow hike up to 10% every two years. some state lawmakers are vowing to fight that saying the law on the books is for hikes every two years with the hike maxing out at 5%. even with the 5% hike the mbta is looking at $242 million budget gap next year. a big reason for that is all the money they are paying out in salaries and overtime.

are making 100,000 or more. rail operator make 30% more than the national average and bus operator make 50% more than a national average. and the most extreme example a maintenance foremen made 315,000 he was able to more than triple his base salary because of back pay owed him and working 2,648 overtime hour. a big reason for all of that overtime pay was the record breaking snowfall that happened last year. but now some people are asking for an audit saying the numbers seem way too high. we should know in the new year a little bit more information about the exact amount of any proposed fare hikes. in boston, victoria warren, 7news "today in new england." there's stepped up security at schools for kid headed back to class. violent e-mail threat shutdown all public schools on monday. police later determined threats

the fbi currently helping police find who sent those e-mails. new video from cruise working to remove a crane that crashed into a current home. the teenager girl was inside when that crane collapsed inside the home. nicole oliverio live with the latest. christmas lights overpowered by police light after a crane smashes through a home here. it's like a tree that falls in the forest. sounded like that. rebecca foreman was working on homework when the crane came crashing through. ist in my kitchen. i saw from the corner of my eye something fall from the ceiling. i looked outside and saw trees falling. i thought trees like the branches falling. instead what she saw was the

trimming company her family hired toppling over. we were trying to prevent trees from hitting us for the winder time. we took the precaution and hired them. but ended up backfiring. >>the crane sliced through the roof and ended up laying on top of to the second floor. crews worked overnight to remove the crane from atop the home making sure not to cause any further damage. after the accident rebecca called her dad to let him know what happened and to say she was okay. pressure. and she was great. and actually took a while to remove the crane. initial equipment here was not approved by osha the family is staying at a hotel it's still unclear exactly what happened that caused crane to tom over. in plymouth nicole oliverio

a medford family saying thank you to the police officers burning home. a mother inside with her 5 5-month-old twins and didn't know the fire had started. dad said he's grateful for the outcome. >> mom and dad say they are grateful they will be together as a family this christmas. man who gave gun to marathon bomber in court today. he pleaded guiltiy to gun charges last year. he loaned a gun to tsarnaev two months before the trial. he wanted to use the gun to roburi students.

brother used gun to kill mit police officer shawn collier a few days after the marathon bombing. dzhokhar tsarnaev was sentenced to death in june. new details on attack in afghanistan. one was a new york city police detective. he served in air national guard. he's a 15-year investigate iran and was deployed to afghanistan and iraq three times. 45-year-old leaves behind a wife and two children. a suicide bomber drove a motorcycle into a convoy of u.s. nato and afghan forces and blew himself up. this is on monday. the taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack. the explosion marked the deadliest day for troops in afghanistan in more than three years. the front-runner in the race for the white house refuses to back down. the feud between hillary clinton and donnell trump is heating up. donald trump saying controversial comments. he was in michigan and started

>> a retired police captain told mj.com that leading new organization he cleared a group of people celebrating on the roof of an apartment building. he said you couldn't see the twin towers from across the river, though. spreading concern about chipotle diner as another possible outbreak of e-coli linked to the chain. looking into this new outbreak in kansas and oklahoma. in each case the person had eaten at chipotle the week before they got sick. this comes after dozens of people who ate at chipotle in washington and oregon become sick with a rare form of the back teara earlier this year. at least 120 people become sick with norro virus after heating chipotle in boston earlier this month. so much more news to come on 7news at 9:00. a young man convicted of killing four people. we have the details. our 7news team, teaming up with number 12. we'll tell you all about it, coming up after the break.

for fitchburg and also for worcester. those temperature will get another boost again this afternoon and it looks like mid to even some upper 50s on tap for us today on tap for tomorrow mild temperatures again and also another round of rain. cloudy through today. periods of showers. today looks to be one of those day working through the time line where you do have on again off again showers all throughout the day. working through the time line you can see we get clearing overnight tonight and patchy dense fog into tomorrow morning. something we'll watch out for. into wednesday we'll wait until the afternoon toening for the second round of rain. looks to come fast and furiously works out within the span of 3-4 hours for tomorrow. how much rain are we talking. it looks like about half an inch today and then maybe doubling that amount as we work into the rain tomorrow. and the higher amounts the higher totals will be across the south coast maybe some of those areas nearing close to 2 inch of

how about the warm temperature we've been talking about this boost in the jet stream that surging that mild air in and also a bit muggy for us. record-breaking temperatures across 30 state as we work into the next couple of days. not out of the question and we'll break this record we see here for worcester december 24th was the latest first snowfall. christmas. christmas eve. record-warmth as we head into the next couple of days. for boston forecasting almost 70 degrees on christmas eve day. the old record from 199 # was 61. the same for worcester where we forecast 65. so far december has been the warmest on record. who should be around 36 for this time of year. where is winter mostly out west

fantastic cause. ryan schulteis is baking holiday cookies that are always in high demand. here's ryan's holiday helping. happy holiday and welcome to our home. today we will be making sniker-doodles. >> let's get started. first things first you want to get the wet ingredients together. >> start with two sticks of butter. now add two eggs. the last step to add the sugar. then combine all the ingredients. that bowl is now complete. you want to focus on dry ingredients including sifted flower. put that in. some cream of tarter and baking soda. you add to all wed ingredient and mix together in there. the key here is what?

here's the first arm that moved through the last hour or so. we're in for some dry periods. but we do have more rain on the way. as we head through the day. running through that time line you can see those hours of dry weather here. but there may be some sprinkles and some patchy fog that forms and then throughout the day into the afternoon we're still in for a little bit more rain before things clear outright around the time forren thing commute. that's good news there. something will be watching out for overnight tonight into tomorrow will be the potential for some dense fog to form. if you are planner aheader kind of person you want to wake up a few minutes early tomorrow just to see what the conditions are like. it may slow down the commute tomorrow. 54 to 59 for those highs today. and here's where our current temperatures are. 49 for boston. we've got a ways to go. maybe that's overreaching. we'll go mid 50s for most of us today. tomorrow onshore flow keeps those temperatures in the low 50s and we have another round of rain that's working through for
