breaking news here at 9:00 a.m. a reported high-speed chase in mansfield end wsz a crash and driver thrown from the car. tagged, vandals boston public library hit. the mayor is saying enough is enough about the spaces in boston. good wednesday morning everybody. thanks for joining us. it's 9:00. i'm sarah french. i'm christa delcamp. it's january 27th. so officially now the last wednesday in the month of january. we are moving full speed ahead to spring with these temperature. march 20 the finish line. we look forward to spring already. the winter has been easy so far. we've dealt with a little bit of snow and cold in the month of jane. but coming off the record-breaking december warmth. you know we're bound to get a little bit of snow and cold at

41 in boston. 40 in plymouth. nothing of the sorts outside this morning. we continue to melt snow overnight with temperatures above freezing and remaining above freezing throughout the day. wind is brisk at times. around 13 to 14 miles per hour. showers across the cape at this time. mainly from hyannis to cahathem. if you look far enough to north and west you see breaks in the overcast. i expect partly sunny skies in the afternoon. a bit of the breeze throughout the day. temperatures sliding down into the low 30s after the commute home. no major shots of cold air or big storm over the next 7 days. that's 7-day forecast coming up. time now for fast track traffic. let's head outside and look at the expressway. slow drive northbound. let's go to the maps into boston. that drive still just over half an hour. south of town we have an accident in stotan.

there. the pike out to framingham no major delays. once you cross over 128 a slow drive into boston. we have another accident right at 1-a southbound heading into boston. keep that in mind if you get ready to head tout door. the expressway from the braintree split into boston 26 minutes. back to you guys. breaking news mansfield. a reported high-speed police chase ends in a crash. a person thrown from the vehicle. here's nicole oliverio. nicole? >> well, initial report said it began as a police pursuit. you can see traffic the moving through the road without any problem in mansfield. and initially against as we said this call had come in as a police pursuit.

after that crash happened at 1:00 this morning. the first flatbed truck carrying the under carriage of the car and the second truck carrying the mangled be body of the car. the person was ejected. that driver was rushed to boston hospital via med flight. he has serious injury but is still conscious after the accident. we don't know what led to police pursuit. they said they were trying to pull the car for a minor traffic violation. that's the latest live in mansfield. nicole oliverio. 7news "today in new england." we're also following breaking news out of boston. someone vandalized a boston public library in copley square. >> let's go to victoria. looks like graffiti and they are cleaning it right behind you

they have waste no time in trying to get this cleaned up. this graffiti on entire trech of the wall here. this is situation where somebody was phrase they used tagging the library. there was nothing racist or on seen. but it's occasion tensive and it will take a lot of effort to get it cleaned up. the folks we've been talking use word like discussing. they are upset over this. this is first discovered last night around 11:30 at night. and that police were called while this was in progress. by the time they got out here whoever was responsible for this had fleet the scene. one person we talked to who uses the library every single day said he's just really upset over there. i'm surprised to see that. that's a shame. i don't know see why certain

and the 66-year-old man found dead at the scene. police in peabody are investigating a murder-suicide. they found the body of man and women on a porch outside of a home on winter street last night. both had stab wounds, this morning the entire neighborhood is on edge. >> i'm really, really shocked. like this street is very, very quiet. it's all been family based. there's a whole bunch of kids that live here. i'm just i really can't -- i've seen her around the summer. she always kept to herself. 51-year-old was on the phone with family in brazil when relative heard a commotion then the line dropped out. the victim's family then called police. police are trying to figure out the relationship between the two people. also this morning, parking problems turning violent now for a second straight day. and that has the mayor of boston reigniting the debate over the

year. >> good morning. we all know that parking is difficult in the citien when there isn't any snow. there's been some troubling incident. >> this time over his van. his tirings slashed because he parked in a spot with a space saver. there's no place to park. sun sunday night in ronald's neighborhood. >> i come around and there's no parking anywhere because it's a car or there's a space saver. he found one right in front of his house. someone had already claimed it. >> there was a trash can so i pulled in. i pitched the trash can out of the way and i parked there. monday morning he returned to his van and noticed one tire was slashed. >> the towing company came and they picked up the truck and there was knife cut in the tire.

this week. in doctor chester boston police continue to search for the man who shot the owner of this car in an argument over street parking. the victim is recoffering but the shooting has mayor marty walsh rethinking how the city handle the saving of parking spaces after snowstorm. >> right now they can save spot they dig out for after 48 hours. as ronald levec the storm over the weekend didn't trigger that declaration. but there were troubling incidents anyways. >> there was 4 inch of snow. you can drive right over it. >> most of the snow has melted away at this point. the mayor is warning space savers will not be allowed if them. new england." you will be able to learn more about the case again dzhokhar tsarnaev. a federal judge has ordered the public release of hundreds of documents in the case.

exhibit will be made public including reports from expert witnesses. no word yet on exactly when they will be released. chary baker plans to unveil next year's budget. the governor will announce the specific of his 40 billion spending plan. this will happen during news conference at the statehouse this afternoon. officials say the state is facing a $635 million dollar budget gap. the governor has promised not to raise taxes or fees. and today the senate judiciary committee will talk about the heroin and opiate epidemic in the u.s. they are hoping the hearing will lead to action from congress. now to the race for white house. bernie sander will meet with president obama at the white house today. the two will meet privately in the oval office with no formal agenda plan. this will be the first formal meeting between the two.

trump is boycotting tomorrow's debate because of a feud with fox news >> he said he's not showing up to this debate because he's mad at fox news. they named megan kelly moderator. he said if she will be there he will not be. >> i'm not a fan of megan kelly. i think she's a third-rate reporter. i think she's not good at what she does. >> fox the playing games. they will make a fortune. i told fox they should give money to the wounded warriors. >> he pulled -- he polled his followers to see if he should go. when ted cruz he offered to take trump on alone. we are effectively tied in the state of iowa. if he's unwilling to stand on the debate stage with the other candidates then i would like to

we had a lot of weather going mainstream over the last couple of winters there. not onlies it that one storm that one blizzard that hit southern new england. we had multiple based storm. by the end of the fourth big storm we picked up 7 feet of snow is just three weeks in the city of boston. unreal. 41 in boston now. 41 in north. in the mean time half of foot to foot of snow we had a few days ago continues to melt. we were many meltdown mode yesterday night. wind from the west 13 miles per hour. 14 in bedford. calm down in hyannis. still a little bit of rain to taper off down through the cape and island at this point. but it will be sliding off to the east and as it does so eventually the clouds break apart a little bit. so we'll get some rays of sun in here this afternoon from northwest to southeast. and as you go through you see that breaking apart. reinforcing shot of cold air trying to come through later this afternoon. they can't rule out a passing

but overall a quiet afternoon. quiet tonight. clear skies. clear skies starting off tomorrow. but patches of clouds may build into the south tomorrow afternoon. but overall don't expect much weatherwise in the forecast in terms of really slowing you down on the roadways. temperatures in the lower lower-to-middle 40. earliest break of sun midday. north of the city of boston temperature merrimack valley running into the low 40s. there's not much change temperature wise as we go through the afternoon. upper 30s in worcester hills. lower-to-middle 40s across the cape. maybe 3:00 or 4:00 in the afternoon we will catch a few rays of sun. the snow melt on the driveway refreezing. patches of ice 18 to 28 for overnight low. above freezing again tomorrow. this more like march pattern here where you get the refreeze at night and then you thaw out during the day. we'll thaw out again tomorrow afternoon.

we didn't have thawing out last year at this time. rekept rekept -- we kept getting hammered with cold snow and weather. what a difference a flash back. its last year this time that we picked up 26 inches of snow. between now and mid-february we picked up 84.1 inches. much different this year. as far as temperature last year we only had three days above freezing between now and the middle of february. obviously very different now. we are talking a bit of vacation. our temperature right around 10 degrees above where they should be for this time of year. we're enjoying the 40s. it's quiet across much of the country as well. we do have threat for some severe weather down toward florida today. but things looking pretty good for the rest of your forecast; kris. back to you. we've been watching the rest of the country and north and west across canada. earlier we were watching this

the coastal storm. not going to happen. the ocean storm staying well to the east of us and in its wake we get scattered flurries friday. no biggy in terms of storm system working up the coast thursday night into friday. a little bit cooler the next couple of day. just above seasonal levels then if you look for those milder testimony to surge back into new england. sunday upper 40s to near 50. mid 50s on monday. will it have staying power. the short answer is no. it gets colder by the end of

gravity of how bad this problem is becomes very, very apparent. >> you're looking at the only software program in the world that can track child predators live online. it was developed by a group known as the child rescue coalition. who invited me to boca raton, florida to get a rare look how they use this powerful program. >> here's a computer in boston we've seen it online as recently as about 15 minutes ago. very clear indication of what type of victims this particular individual is interested in. here's an # 8 or 9-year-old. investigators are able to see the same computer in boston has more than 5,000 files of child pornography in its library. it's absolutely an epidemic. the problem is gotten to be huge. that's why we want to get as many investigators as possible using this system. because it really is an indicator of who the people are.

viewing films but likely to be a hands on abuser. they provide all of the software and technology free to law enforcement. they say they are already working with police in all 50 states and they are also in 57 countries. and here's how the software works. police from around the country give the coalition information on computer files they've uncovered that show children under 12 being sexually abused. the coalition then tracks those files to specific networks on what's called the dark web. a part of the internet that requires special routers that aluser to remain anonymous and has been a haven for illegal activity. one on those network the software identifies the computers ip address. armed with that information police are able to get search warrants, track down the computer's location and arrest whoever was using it. the internet is private hunting ground. john walsh founded the center for missing and exploited

all right rain tapering off through the cape. that's the case the next half hour or so. we've had some breaks in the overcast and sunshine trying to show back up across western mass. i do expect partly sunny skies late morning into the afternoon. take a look at the forecast model not much going on later today through tomorrow. all and all it does look like it's a quiet couple of day ahead of us with temperature really not going anywhere throughout the day. holding in the low 40s this afternoon. guys? >> let's go to breaking news. it's out of mansfield where this scene remains. this is car that was reportedly involved in high-speed chase with police and someone insides thrown from that vehicle. let's send it out to nicole oliverio live in mansfield with the latest now. nicole? >> this crash happening after 1:00 this morning. you can see police just arrived back on the scene as they continue to investigate exactly what went wrong.

and crushed this cars once towed from the scene on the first flat bed you see just the metal. and the undercarriage of the car. the second flatbed came out bringing the fresh crumbled body of the car away from the scene. again this all happening just after 1:00 in the morning. one man telling us he could hear the car racing down the street. described it sounding like rocket and he heard the siren and crash. what we don't know what led to this police chase. muchly reports came as police pursuit. we know 25-year-old driver crashed into the concrete bridge abuttment and smashed car. the 25-year-old driver was eject from the car. despite being conscious he had to be med flighted for serious injury. we don't know what the injuries were. we don't know exactly what led to the pursuit. but sources say that it began as a simple traffic stop. for now that's the latest live

nicole oliverio, 7news "today in new england." we continue to follow breaking news dorchester. a man is dead after he was not in head overnight. happenedment at the intersection of washington and dunbar avenue. there's no word yet if any arrest have been made. >> manchester police detective recovering from serious injuries after this car. he was unmarked police suv. it hit a poll which brought down some live wires. no word if anyone was hurt or if there were other cars involved. >> state police trying to figure out what caused a truck to lose its tire. it wound up killing a man on 128. a freak accident here. the tire flew over a barrier bounced off another car and then hit the victim's vehicle tuesday afternoon. first responders say 26-year-old charles who died at the scene. no charges have been file instead

the person robbed blue hills gas on washington street around 11:30 sunday night. the suspect told the clerk they had a weapon but never showed one. if you have any information take a look at this video you are asked to call police. >> two city councilors in boston calling for a public hearing after a recent change sparked concern at northeastern university. the university recently decided to provide 20 of its officers with tactical rifles. the city councilor said the resident in the neighborhood deserved to have a say in this decision. the university said they didn't previously consider public opinion because the weapons would only be used in high-level threat situation on the campus. hundreds of people lining the street in hingham to show their support of family of local marine declared dead following an accident earlier this month. relatives of christopher orlando returned from hawaii last night. people held american flags as a police escort drive to the family's home.

protestor occupying a federal wildlife reserve earlier this month. last night bundy and several of his follower were driving to community meeting when they were pulled over. during that traffic stop they got into shootout with police. militant leader bundy his brother and several others were arrested. 55-year-old arizona rancher was killed. it's unclear who shot first. authorities are offering a $200,000 reward for those three inmates who escaped from a maximum security prison out in california. the men are aa cued of murder. attempted murder and torturing. the sheriff called their escape sophisticated. en wondered if they had help. guards didn't realize they were disappear. police in seattle look for shooter that opened fire at homeless camp. it happened last night at long-standing encampment known

police believe it was a targeted attack and don't believe other homeless people are at risk. >> one man dead after a house exploded last night in hawaii. you can see the home completely devowered by flames. the victim was inside at the time of the blast. the texas teenager who used afluenz as team. he expected to return to texas from mexico sometime in the next week. couch and his mother fled to mexico last month after video surfaced of the teen drinking alcohol. that video would violate the probation sentence he agreed to after killing four people in drunken driving accident in 2013. the spreading concern over the zeeka virus has the president calling for action. it's possible the virus could spread to the u.s. when the weather gets warmer. health officials believe the

in, in babies who mother were infected recovering after taking part in what's being called the duct tape challenge. this 14-year-old skier. his head had 48. he fell on concrete taking part in the challenge. the goal is try to escape after you're tied up with duct tape. he wants to warn other people about the danger of trying this viral challenge. >> teach other kids not the do. when i think about it i've become sad. and like really happy because i'm happy because i survived it. i almost died. this is unbelievable. he said he doesn't really remember much from tense kent. you can see how badly injured he is. he will not be able to see out of one of his eyes again.

think this time last year. you're right. this is when the snow blitz began last year. this time between this week and the end of the week we got 26 inch between now and and mid-february 84 inch. much different this year. as far as temperature last year we only had three days above freezing between this time and the middle of february. we're enjoying the 40s now. we're getting a little break from winter. our temperatures are about ten degrees above where they should. around the country quiet as well. we have the threat for severe weather across florida today. it's pretty quiet other than that. for more on your forecast, back to you. >> we've been watching what's going on across the country. the area combining with another area of will create an ocean symptom symptom. it's to far to the east to give us in snow. it didn't refreeze overnight.

>> ring broke again. >> same spot? >> same spot. >> frustrated he took his wring back and got it fixed again in when it broke the third time he said he had, had enough. >> my father passed away about wedding ring. he wanted zales take the diamond and sit him father ring so he wouldn't deal with this problem. he said the manager agreed to do it. >> i was told it was going to be taken care of. they printed out a reseat. the reseat showed zero cost. a couple of weeks later chuck called to check on his ring. >> i asked them. where the ring. he explained we're awaiting the estimate. he said what he thought was a free service to fix his ongoing problem was now going to cost him about $200. frankie paid the money because he wanted chuck to have his ring back in time for christmas.
