falling trees and power lines still remain a big threat. >> another round of snow may be days away. let's get a check of the forecast. yesterday's storm. already talking about the next one. over a foot of snow. quincy just over 9. tewksbery 7.5, boston officially just under 7 inches of snow. what's left of the snow is now rock solid ice. if we had any slush left on the roads yesterday evening that is now thick ice. 9 degrees in bedford. things have frozen rock solid. 26 in boston. so everyone well below freezing. satellite radar all clear. yesterday's storm long gone. should be a good bit of sunshine through the morning hours. just a few passing clouds as a weak system passes off to our north. already seeing bit of cloud cover in the berkshires. temperatures warm up to the mid 30s.

cold enough that you could still get out and do some snowing, skiing maybe sledding but not so cold that it's bitter and uncomfortable. not as cold overnight tonight. next storm system arrives monday. we'll talk more about that in a few minutes. that dose of winter weather turned deadly in canton. a fallen branch killed a 6-year-old little girl. the community is trying to cope with this devastating tragedy. >> police say the girl was playing in her back yard when snow caused a large tree branch to come crashing down. family members say 6-year-old kailee has died after a large tree branch fell down on her. she was playing outside in the snow in canton when the branch fell 20 feet winning her underneath while her father and brother moved the tree. she was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but died a few hours later. early in the day police warned residents to stay inside. >> we were asking people to stay

house if you can until things at least lighten up. >> reporter: the wet heavy snow downed trees and power lines across the region. this power line was still live as it burned through the snow on 138 south. firefighters say to be aware. the hazard could be above you. >> you have to be aware when you're out shoveling your drive way, helping your neighbors, kids in the yard. you have to understand that the weight of the snow on the branchs and the wires poses significant hazard. >> many canton residents lost their power. reporting 284 customer outages in the town. police also advise residents to only call 911 in case of an emergency. winter weather wreaking havoc on last night's commute as well. downed branchs knocking out power in many neighborhoods.

take a look at our tracking poll. you see bernie sanders stopped his downward trend. clinton is still ticking up wards but now at a slower pace. on the other side look at the republicans. don'ted a trump went up to 35%. marco rubio stands at 14%. ted cruz also lost a point. he had 13 remaining in third. but here's where things are starting to get interesting. jeb bush, john kasich both gained two points and both have 10%. as for the other republicans chris christie down one to 4%, ben carson also down one with 3% and carly fiorino at 3%. tracking poll on that side. you can see donald trump remains at the top. he picked up a point. marco rubio, ted cruz both lost a point while john kasich and jeb bush gained two. our tracking poll continues up

the quake making the tremors worse. firefighters spread out on this pan cake building working hard despite multiple after shocks. the hard work paid off. this woman was rescued from high up very carefully lowered to safety then she's carried off. the 200 people who did escape happy to be alive. 8:11. a crane comes crashing down, smashing people and cars below. collapse. still cleaning up from yesterday's storm. your seven day forecast coming up. a sub plane involved in a midair collision.

really a couple of storms that will impact us monday and tuesday and even into wednesday. got 31 in p town. everywhere else well below freezing. 19 in plymouth, 12. even got some single digits on the map. winds are light if not dead calm. no real wind chill to speak of. winds coming in out of the west/southwest. normally a southwesterly wind would make for a mild day. it is notoriously tough to warm up ground that is covered in snow. that storm system is our snow maker. exiting off the top of the screen. this weak disturbance will pass by to our north. just enough to give us a cloud or two. that's about it. fairly pleasant. again, temperature wise, mid to upper 30s this afternoon. perfect for enjoying that snow. do some sledding, some skiing.

bitter and uncomfortable. fairly mild for tomorrow with highs in the 40s. quiet through the weekend. that starts to move out. that will make way for the first in a series of storm systems. first one is gonna move up the coast line developing off the carolina coast line bringing them some fairly nasty weather. looks like this will be a glancing blow, meaning most of the impacts will be felt out in the ocean. still could bring us some snow possibly as early as monday morning. could begin as a little bit of rain for parts of the cape. generally speaking, we're talking snow as we head into monday. becomes a little more widespread as we head into monday afternoon. soon as that one moves out, another one comes in. this one coming from the west. that will keep the chance of snow showers going off and on into tuesday and even early wednesday. this is going to be a period of

then a period of a couple hours of snow. audit all up and it could be a decent amount of snow. long range model, add it all up, could end up with 3, 4, maybe 5 inches. stay tuned. look at the numbers for next week. high temperatures only in the upper 20s for friday. >> thank you. more news today, officials are trying to figure out why a large construction crane came crashing down on a new york city street. this was friday. one person was killed. has been identified as a harvard graduate who worked on wall street. the camera capturing the moment. it fell crushing parked cars. also injuring several other people. this crash, understandably, left many residents stunned. >> i heard an enormous bang. the loudest bang over. the whole building shook. >> city officials say the crane

members were lowering it. a deadly discovery in arizona. authorities found a body in a sink hole yesterday. crews found the body after an hour of digging. they say the hole was located on a farming field and is about 50 feet across and 15 feet deep. it's a huge sink hole. no word of any other injuries or damaged caused by the sink hole. two planes collided midair. it happened yesterday off the coast of los angeles. the coast guard has recovered part of the plane's tail and a flight log. officials believe two men and a woman were on board those two planes. so far no survivors have been found. 8:18. ahead on today in new england, costume controversy. a middle schooler dressed up as a character from a disney movie. how it got him in trouble with his principal. also ahead a driverless atv on the move? that's never good.

mostly sunny. temperatures mid to upper 30s. fairly enjoyable temperatures. get a little bit of melting but not a whole lot. do look for that to refreeze overnight. wobt be as cold as it is this morning but well below freezing. ice in the morning hours. four buildings where evacuated because of concerns over carbon monoxide. place. everyone was evacuated. hospital. right now fire officials are investigating. here are today's other top stories. flames tearing through a home in avon overnight. smoke pouring out the back of that home. no word yet on any injuries or what may have sparked that fire.

died after a large tree branch fell down on her. this was on friday. family members say 6-year-old kailee kenya was outside playing in the snow. that's when a tree branch fell more than 20 feet on top of her. she was rushed to a hospital in critical condition but died a few hours later. a road hazard for drivers. this truck slid right off the road. if you see ice it could pose a risk. the town had 11 inches of snow in one day making it a rough time for drivers. >> i got four wheel drive. got dual rear wheels. >> reporter: these two spent several hours shoveling and were headed for a break. >> roads are good. roads are good. >> reporter: in yarmouth, two

the driver of the truck lost control. and crews and heavy machinery had to pull a pickup truck with a snow plow out of a ditch as the snow started friday, 93 slowed significantly. one car loses control. tow trucks were a common sight. on 95 south a fleet of plows were out to stay ahead of the storm. back in worcester things are clearing up. even keeping cab drivers happy. >> it's been good. >> reporter: 7 news today in new england. and you can track the snowfall in your neighborhood. also keep an eye on a possible storm next week on whdh.com and the 7 news mobile and tablet apps. the race for the white house tonight. the republicans will face off in a debate. with just three days until the primary, candidates from both parties are making a major push to pick up some votes. blame it on the snow. the winner weather stranded donald trump's jet in new york

the officer moves in for the rescue. >> i don't think i had time to think about it. i just reacted to it. >> reporter: the officer struggles with the man who makes a break for the edge of the overpass. >> there was maybe a couple seconds while we were on the side. it was pretty nerve wracking. >> that's when daniel martinez and his friend george pulled over in their work truck. >> we were driving. he was wrestling with this guy, kind of in a wrestling move. i slowed down. i remember looking back at both the driver and the passenger had this look of can we help you? yes, come help me. >> reporter: the man was taken into custody. martinez said the only reason they were able to help is because he missed an exit. >> i would have passed all that up, you know? i just think we were there at the right time. i think it was supposed to happen. >> reporter: thankful for the help this officer said answering

>> red in morning sailors take warning or some variation of that. there's some meteorology truth to that. if the skies have the reddish glow at night it means the clouds are moving out. in the morning, the clouds are moving in. if you see the reddish sky at night that means the next day will be good. we're already talking ab our next storm monday, tuesday, wednesday. not one but two. three storms that may pass over the area. problem is they may pass over us or near us. the track uncertain. on and off periods of snow over the course of 2 1/2 days. we're freezing up yesterday's slush. 36 in boston. 9 degrees the current temperature in orange. winds are light if not dead calm.

west/southwesterly wind. normally that would be a fairly warm wind that would lead to a fairly warm day. it is tough to warm up ground. obviously that's the case. that's the reason for the snow. moving out of the picture. things are quiet across most of the northeastern united states. how this one disturbance passing over the great lakes. that will move north of us today just enough for a couple of passing clouds. overall great looking weekend. if you're thinking about skiing temperatures are nearly ideal. you can still enjoy the snow but uncomfortable. get out and enjoy it. high pressure in control. high pressure usually means fairly benign weather. that gets out of the way. makes room for our first storm system to move up the coast line. this begins off the carolina coast line and could bring snow as far south as georgia as we head into sunday night into monday morning. after monday morning the leading

lead to some rain or snow along the cape and islands early monday morning. then monday afternoon that changes over to all snow and becomes a little more widespread across all of southern new england. now, this again will be primarily an ocean storm so it looks like most of the impact will be out in the ocean. just a glancing blow for us. right behind that on the heels of that got another one coming in which could bring us another round of snow showers monday night into tuesday. this will be on and off periods of snow. add it up, and that will be 3, 4, 5 inches of snow when all said and done wednesday morning. an inch or two, then a break, then another inch or two over the course of monday afternoon into wednesday. look how cold it will be. temperatures at or below normal with highs only in the upper 20s for friday. >> all right. thank you. broken i phone owners might be catching a break.

overall pretty good weekend. cold enough that it won't be so slushy but not too cold that it won't be uncomfortable out there. get out and enjoy. whatever you want to do this weekend. high pressure in control of the weather. that makes fairly quiet conditions. unfortunately that high pressure will get out of the way to make room for a coastal storm to work its way up. could bring some snow as far south as georgia as we head into sunday afternoon. for us the impacts will be felt early on monday morning right around the commute. unfortunately on monday morning we'll likely be getting some rain and snow for the cape and islands. that will become a little more widespread across all of new england as we head into monday afternoon. looks like the biggest impact will be out in the atlantic. this will be a glancing blow. right behind it that will keep the chance of snow monday night into tuesday. it's not gonna snow nonstop.
