in jail along with her live-in boyfriend.he's being held without bond for abuse. abuse.the baby's mother told police her daughter had been in the care of her live-in boyfriend-- leroy morris -- the night before she noticed swelling on her daughter's head and a black eye.police say morris admitted to dropping the baby on her head and stepping on her on christmas eve after he had been drinking and using drugs. he's charged with inflicting great bodily injury upon a child. child.just into our newsroom a short time ago-we learned the baby's mother -- whitney barnwell -- is also facing charges for unlawful conduct towards a child.our cameras were rolling in court just a few minutes ago when morris and barnwell went before a judge.the baby suffered mutliple skull fractures, a broken collarbone, a broken arm, a fractured eye socket, a fractured femur, and a spinal cord injury.the police chief spoke with us today, saying it's the worst case he's seen.

3 "it's difficult not to take it home, especially when it involves a child. i mean, for me personally, my career spans about three decades and this case tops the list at one of the most egregious." egregious."prosecutors say the baby is suffereing from brain hemmorages and swelling. police say she remains at g-h-s in critical condition. morris was denied bond moments ago and the infant's mother is being held on 75-thousand dollar bond. 3 in pickens county-clemson university police are investigating *another vandalism at tillman hall... hall...the campus building has been at the center of controversy for the past year. many have called for it to be re-named because of it's history.it's named after former governor "ben tillman" -- who was a known white surpemacist.in this latest vandalism incident...a message was spray painted on two walls of the building.they read "stop honoring tillman"...and on the adjacent wall..."rename tillman hall."maintenance workers have since covered up the graffiti while they work

3 3 3 3 there's a better way to get your message out than defacing state property it is a crime and will be handled as such 3 3 3 i dont think that was necessary i think there are better ways to show that agree with something someone has to clean that up and thats kind of a burdan on the school to do that so i think there are better ways to solve problume than that that 3 initially, clemson's board of trustees said the name would not be changed...but the school eventually launched a task force to look at the university's history and consider an official name change of tillman and other buildings on campus.that task force has yet to come to a decision on what comes next. next.officials say the vandalism happened sometime overnight or early this morning.it remains under investigation. 3 three people are now in custody in anderson county after a chase that ended in a crash! crash!the sheriff's office says the chase began with police and that deputies and troopers joined to assist just before 11 this morning.

officials say it's that this old county road...may be getting some much needed t-l-c. 3 3 3 3 3 3 natbroken glass, debris...and flowers...all reminders of what happened on 4th street in spartanburg county october 11...18:05:37"it has been very emotional for this community." boiling springs fire chief scott miller responded to the accident that left four u-s-c upstate students dead and injured a fifth...after they wrapped their vehicle around this tree.miller says the fatal wreck, and another one just a few days before it on this road...have gotten plans to fix it...some much needed attention. 3 3 3 18:06:50"a total of five fatalities in less than two days.'18:05:30"it usually takes tragedy to initiate change."the road is narrow, winding...and old. 3 3 18:26:23"it was probably a farm to market road back when horse and buggies were used...it wasn't built for
4:06 pm
today."the coroner says speed was a factor in the crash that killed the four students...and chief miller tells me the road simply can't handle current traffic patterns. 18:07:50"it really wasn't built for 4900 cars a day which is what the traffic count is showing. 18:0911"the posted speed limit is 25 miles an hour...the average speed of the cars going by us right now is 40 to 45 miles an hour."which is why the county wants to do something about it... spartanburg county engineer ron kirby showed me plans today to take some of the danger out of driving 4th street. 18:26:35"what we're looking at doing is taking out some of the very tight turns and also the vertical curves...flattening those out...so it will make it a much smoother ride..."18:26:55 "widen the road, add shoulders and flatten out the side slopes."but for 4th street residents like rex seay.. fixing the road may not stop speeders...or prevent fatal crashes. 3 3 18:36:48"speeding has always
4:07 pm
3 the plans to fix this road are still in the beginning stages...and funding will come from taxpayers...about 2 to 3 million dollars estimated.the county says this road has been a top priority for years...but now, fixing it they say, is more vital than ever...to potentially save lives. live in spartanburg county andrew reeser the four o clock news. 3 now time for weather and traffic together every 10 minutes---- 3 showers will push in late tonight into friday morning. rain won't be heavy and many areas will miss out on it completely! expect morning temps in the mid 30s to around 40. friday afternoon will bring some clearing, but clouds will be around. highs

3 3 3 3 when you talk about the clemson receivers there's really one guy that stands above anyone else...and thats charone peake. charone thanks so much for joining us...we've talked about it before down in miami 5 years you've been down here do you feel like its all been building to this moment? moment? 3 it really has if i wouldve never got hurt and got redshirted my junior year i never wouldve been in the position i'm in. when you look at the journey youve had to take battling back from knee injuries does it almost seem worth it at this point?i think it does its been an up and down career for me but i think this is one of the highs in my life. going up a team against alabama this is the 4th time youve beaten a team favored to win in a bowl game now youre the underdogs again?do you care or is this something you guys are accustomed to?we dont care we're used to being the underdogs...we're used to it. we just go out there and play ball. prepare the same.
4:11 pm
challenges do they bring i mean i obviously known around the country as being a defensive minded ball clubi think they're very physical and very fast. so the receivers are going to have to do a good job of helping the linemen out. going 15 and oh has it clicked yet? i know youve been around a long time and you're an upstate guy so i gotta imagine it means a little bit more to you. its crazy that we're in this position. it hit me after the orange bowl that we were going to the national championship. all the ties to alabama obviously coach swinney has he made a couple jokes about that yet?he's been wanting this ever since he got the position here.final question...folks that have been following you in the upstate your entire career this is really gonna be your last game this time. anything youd like to say to them and the emotions you're going through.yeah theres been a lot of emotions i just want to thank everybody for sticking with me. through my ups and downs and i'll always
