led to an actice search all day.anderson county investigators have even brought in a spartanburg county forensic anthropologist to assist.and now there's a break in the investigation. 3 its a case that has many people in the area wondering who this person is and what happened to them. them.fox carolinas rebecca atkins has been on scene all day talking with people who work near there and we just got a major update, right rebecca? 3 cody its been a very active scene out here today. i did speak with family members of the people who found these remains that have now been identified, they did not want to talk on camera but say this is an extremely unfortunate situation.3 3 3 3 3 3 it was an active scene in piedmont as anderson county investigators combed through the wooded area where human remains were found yesterday. been here at least 6 months. greg shore the anderson county coroner says a spartanburg county forensic anthropologist has been assisting the investigation. investigation. 3 "we will use every resource that we can gather to help us, first identify, then determine the manner and cause of death." investigators say a man was riding a four wheeler with his young son when they found what they thought was a skull.and for those who live and work in this area, this has been shocking news. news. 3 "to have something like that right behind a church shows you that it's just the reality of our world today, there's no place that safe from any kind of crime or any kind of situation where you might find something like that."stephen ellis is the associate pastor of connection fellowship church that sits directly in front of the woods. nats of pastor while looking into the woods.("75 yards from here to magnelia rd.")he says hes never seen anything strange there except when a young man he was counseling had walked through the area. boots he had found out there in the woods and they were fairly new so i didn't know if somebody had maybe stolen them from wal mart and dropped them off in there."investigators say there are signs of a camp inside the woods, possibly where homeless people were living. living. 3 "it could be anything... it could be a suicide, it could be a homicide... it could be an accidental death." 3 the coroner tells us they found an implanted defriliblator near the remains and they were able to trace the serial number down.they believe the remains are that of a 47-year-old man reported missing in may who doesn't live far away from this scene. but they're still trying to determine his cause and manner of death. 3 rebecca, definitely didn't take long at all, but is there any indication as to what happened? happened? 3 absolutely cody they did say

legacy...this morning...unity sports hosted its 22-nd annual m-l-k breakfast and program at the historic sterling community center in greenville. the theme for this year's program is "love and non-violence conquer hate and violence: a tribute to mother emanuel a-m-e church."the message was centered around the the june 17th shooting inside the historic downtown charleston church...and featured guest speaker "mrs. eunice coakley-guyton" -- whose sister, reverend myra thompson, was killed. killed.thompson was one of nine victims gunned down when 21-year-old accused shooter "dylann roof" opened fire during a prayer service.at this morning's m-l-k program...her sister stressed the importance of remembering his legacy...saying she will never forget the opportunity she had to participate in a sit-in with the civil rights leader. 3 3 3 he spent time telling us and explaing to us whaa nonviolence is all about. and based on what he taught us i knew it had to be true because

monument in asheville has been vandalized. vandalized.asheville police discovered the vandalism just before midnight last night. on the base of the statue was spray painted "black lives matter"and what appeared to be a noose.right now there is no word on any suspects--but this isn't the first time the vance monument has been vandalized. last year--the same wordrdwere painted at the base of the statue.the vance monument is dedicated to civil war soldier, and former north carolina governor, congressman and senator..--zebulon vance. 3 in cherokee county...firefight ers spent much of the afternoon battling a massive house fire. fire.this is a look at the scene on hidden acres drive outside of gaffney.crews had to bring in extra help and water supplies...because the multi-story home sits at the end of the roadway.no word on what may have sparked the blaze...thankfully no one was hurt. 3 and in spartanburg county-- police are searching for the suspects accused in two separate hold-ups of restaurant delivery workers! workers!friday

a marco's delivery woman after making a pizza delivery at kensington manor.the woman told officers a man approached her with a gun and demanded she give him all the money she had.reports state he also got away with the pizzas yet to be delivered.then saturday night...police say they were called to the prince hall apartments after a man delivering chinese food was held-up at gunpoint.they say the suspect also got away with the victim's money, food and a gallon of tea.spartanburg police have not yet said if they believe the cases are connected. 3 and out of greenville county where two men are now behind bars...accused in an early morning armed robbery. robbery.police say two men--david dozier and deveon hall--were both wearing masks and hoodieswhen they entered the b-p gas station on laurens road. 3 officers say they pulled out a gun, stole cash, cigarettes, and the clerk's cell phone before fleeing in a black sedan.but they didn't get far. police say they crashed into a tractor trailer at ridge road and fairforest way.they say the duo fled again--this time

remains belonging to a missing greenville county man...after his body was found in anderson county over the weekend. weekend.the coroner has identifed the man as 46-year-old gary burton.he was reported missing by his wife back in may after he was released from the hospital. hospital.the coroner says they were able to identify burton due to the clothes he was wearing and his defribilator implant found near the scene.a man found his s remains on sunday while riding a four wheeler in a wooded area between river and leader roads in piedmont.he says burton lived just a few miles from that area.no word on his cause of death at this time. 3 family and friends of a marine missing after his helicopter crashed...say there's little hope he survived. survived.22-year-old sargeant jeffrey sempler and 11 of his comrades disappeared after two military helicopters collided off the coast of hawaii.the coast guard says they are still hopeful some survivors will be found...but sempler's family is preparing for the worst. worst.today...the mayor of woodruff organized a prayer vigil as the community begins the grieving process. dozens
