first on thirteen... we're getting a look at the moments leading up to a des moines officer shooting an unarmed man to death... it comes after an internal investigation by the police department... clearing that officer of any wrongdoing. it all started in june... when 28 year old ryan bolinger pulled up next to a traffic stop. police say he got out of his car and started acting erratically... before speeding off... a chase ensued... before bolinger made a u turn... and came to a stop. that's when police say he charged towards officer vanessa miller's car... prompting her to shoot. ... roll over on your stomach. police chief dana wingert said miller was justified to shoot bolinger through her squad car window. a grand jury had already come to that decision in august. in an interview with the "des
moines register"... wingert said miller's actions were quote, "consistent with what a reasonable person would do in that situation." jury deliberations will resume this morning in the trial of pete polson... the 33 year old faces several charges... including three counts of attempted murder. police say polson went on a shooting spree in pleasant hill last year... hitting two people. he claims he was using drugs at the time... preventing him from knowing right from wrong. during the week long trial... 40 witnesses testified... 37 of them for the state. each of the attempted murder charges carries up to 25 years in prison. chiristina williamson took a plea deal before her trial could begin... the 29 year old pleaded guilty to two counts of child endangerment. in exchange... prosecutors dropped three other charges against her. police arrested williamson in may... after seeing video from a from a hidden camera... showing her abusing three kids at her non registered daycare in pleasant hill. williamson told the judge she's on prescription drugs for bi
polar disorder. she could face up to seven years in prison... and will be sentenced in december. people are weighing in on a plan to merge the clive and windsor heights fire departments... i think it should work out just fine. i was against it at first, but now, knowing more of the facts, ive kind of changed my mind. city leaders detailed the plan at a meeting last night... they say it will help save money... and fix staffing issues. both departments have been under staffed for the past several years... and by joining forces... leaders say they could improve response times. in fact... the goal is to have firefighters on the scene within eight minutes... 90 percent of the time. that's from the time the pager goes off to the time that we roll up on scene, so in doing that we look at a four minute drive time as an integral part of from that page to being on scene within eight minutes. the clive and windsor heights city councils will vote on the
