the pool of democratic presidential candidates just got a little smaller. former rhode island governor lincoln chafee ended his white house run today. he told his staff and close supporters then made a public announcement during a women's forum put on by the democratic national committee. chafee was never a serious contender for the nomination.. he also struggled to raise money in a field that's been dominated by hillary clinton and bernie sanders. "as you know, i have been campaigning on a platform of prosperity through peace. but after much thought i have decided to end my campaign for

president today. thank you, but i would like to take this opportunity one last time to advocate for a chance be given to peace." chafee's departure comes just days after jim webb ended his campaign. vice president joe biden also announced this week that he wouldn't seek the nomination. chaffee's decision changes the line-up for the jefferson jackson dinner in des moines tomorrow... channel 13's stephanie moore takes a look at the set-up and the security inside hy-vee hall. setting up an event for 6,000 of your closest friends is no easy task... 'its a lot of work going back and forth with the iowa democratic party, working on the floor plan, how many seats we need available for each campaigns guests, how many rounds we need to put out for the dinner. set for the jefferson jackson dinner started yesterday and the staff at the iowa events center hopes to have everything ready tonight. the event is one of the

largest dinners event that requires the event staff to work directly with the secret service to make sure everything runs smoothly... 'were following the lead given to us by handle their police needs and well supplement with t-shirt security. the event is something the iowa democratic party has been preparing for, for months... 'theres been a lot of work put into this.' press secretary josh levitt says only having three candidates instead of a bigger crowd is an advantage for iowa democrats... stephanie moore, channel 13 news. the candidates will know how they stand going into tomorrow night's event... today quinnipiac university released its numbers putting clinton back on top with 51 percent... bernie sanders in second with 40 percent followed by martin o'malley with 4 percent... a des moines register-bloomberg poll echoes yesterday's quinnipiac poll showing ben carson as the republican front runner in iowa. 28-percent of those polled got behind carson. that's a 9-point lead over trump... who stands at 19-percent. but the poll also revealed that g-o-p voters believe carson has two weaknesses - a lack of foreign police experience and his use of fetal tissue for research during his medical career. ted cruz is in third place with 10- percent, marco rubio in fourth with 9-percent. jeb bush and rand paul are tied for fifth place. at the bottom of the republican

the louisiana governor confirmed to us that he is planning to take part in the third g-o-p debate on october 28th.... even though he'll be at a separate, under card debate. it will also feature rick patake and lindsey graham. jindal says debate organizers are making a mistake by basing their decisions on national polls. 11:41:03-11:41:10 i've said we'll debate any body anywhere...should pay attention to the early state polls. if you'd like to hear more from jindal...tune into "the insiders" here on channel 13 with dave price on sunday at 9-30. a des moines man called police today saying there were bullet holes in his home. the victim says he heard the gunshots around 10-30 last night at his home in the 25-hundred block of capitol. however...he didn't notice the damage until he saw it in the daylight. police say the home had been hit several times... authorities also found several rounds had hit a nearby car. crews have collected all the shell casing for the investigation...but

the iowa supreme court has ruled the plea deal in a 2012 des moines homicide is invalid. joseph ceretti pleaded guilty to attempted murder, manslaughter and willful injury in the stabbing death of 31-year-old eric naylor. ceretti was initially charged with first degree murder. the plea deal sent him to prison for 45 years. ceretti appealed the case claiming two of the charges should be merged. the supreme court ruled a defendant can't be convicted of both homicide and attempted homicide. the court says ceretti's convictions must be vacated and his case should be sent back to the district court for further action. police are trying to figure out what caused a young driver to lose control and hit a semi earlier today. the crash happened just before the noon hour... near the intersection of merle hay road and aurora avenue. authorities say an 18-year-old was heading north on merle hay road when...for an unknown reason...he crossed the center line and crashed into an on-coming semi. the teenager was taken to the hospital. his name and condition are

unknown. a community in southeast iowa is up in arms over a race at a district track meet... the winner was disqualified for what many would say was an act of good sportsmanship. channel 13's justin surrency is just back from davis county with the story...justin? senior davis county high school cross country runner zach hougland's dream of being district champion went from reality to nightmare in about five minutes at yesterday's class 2-a state qualifying meet... on thursday davis county runner zach hougland thought he'd become the first in school history to finish in first place at a district meet...after being praised by teammates and coaches for qualifying for state, zach noticed an opposing runner...garret hinson from mediapolis collapsing on the course and struggling to finish the race. zach says when no medical attention was given to the runner he ran onto the course to help him finish...the iowa high school athletic association says a national runner from assisting another and disqualified both zach and

garret from the race...while he and his coach say they fully understand the rule, zach says sportsmanship mattered far more than his individual accomplishment... "if you show good sportsmanship, if you are there because you love what you are doing and having fun, i think that's what it's all about, being a good sport like helping someone out is far better than getting 1st" the davis county mustangs did well enough despite the disqualification to finish 3rd at the district meet and qualify for state as a team... meaning zach will still get to race next saturday october 31st at the class 2a state meet in fort dodge. by the way...the mediopolis runner did require hospital

the domed, longview golf centre is celebrating it's final days... today is the official last day of business at the driving range. but it'll be open from two to six tomorrow for an open house to reunite staff and patrons. the owners announced the closing date earlier this month. they say the time was right to put it on the market so the property can change with the land around it. the facility has served golfers for 26 years in two different metro locations. there's much more to come on the channel 13's news... three central iowans are saving the lives of three strangers. what they donated...and the interactions among the group when they met for the first time. they say a picture is worth a thousand words... well the young... very young... artist behind these paintings hopes there worth enough cash to pay for the trip of a lifetime. where she wants to go... and how much money she's raised so far. and our big game takes us to pleasant hill tonight to see

disney is practically her life." ever since little eva sorensen learned how to talk. "repunsal, your moms names repunsal." she's been asking her parents for one thing. "she's asking me every single day "i want to go to disney land i want to go to disney land"" unfortunatly, the answer to that question has always been the same. mom and dad cant afford the trip. but last month when eva asked again... "this time for some reason i decided to respond to her like she was a grown up" the follow up question from mom took eva's disney desire to 'a whole new world.' "i said well, we can't afford to do that, how would you help us do that? and her first suggestion was make pictures" "it's been incredible to watch her do this." eva started selling her painting on social media, earning money for
