democratic dinner... the three candidates rolled into des moines over the weekend... hear from some of the iowans they were trying to impress. seasonal safeguards... des moines leaders are getting ready for the snowflakes to fall. how they're prepping city parks for the beginning of winter... motorist mess... a driver leads police on a chase through the metro... how it all came to an abrupt end this morning... it's monday, october 26th.

first on thirteen... residents of an east des moines neighborhood were kept up late last night... that's because a police pursuit ended with a vehicle... crashing into a garage. it happened at the intersection of ovid and 2nd avenues... just before ten p-m. officers were chasing a vehicle... before it hit a light pole... and struck the garage. two people were sent to the hospital. police say the vehicle was stolen... no word on any arrests in the case. authorities are investigating a death in benton county... a woman's body was found yesterday afternoon on 59th street trail.. near shellsburg. a nearby resident says he discovered the body while recovering his

he says he was surveying the damage... when he noticed blood on the truck and followed a trail of it. he says it appears there was a struggle before the woman died. the division of criminal investigation is assisting with the case. one man is behind bars after shooting two men in ankeny... 34 year old gabriel coco is charged with two counts of willful injury. it all started saturday night... outside the mcdonald's on southwest state street. police say coco was arguing with nickolas culver and justin phongsavanh about poor behavior inside the restaurant.that's when they say coco shot both of the 18 year olds. he then fled the scene... but turned himself in shortly after. culver has been released from the hospital. phongsavanh remains in serious condition. a shooting in sioux city lead to two injuries... and two arrests... police were called to the 14 hundred block of isabella

street on friday night. they say 35 year old nadia brody and 23 year old mykale johnson were fighting. during the struggle... a gun went off... hitting johnson in the hand and another woman in the chest. officers say they were both struck by the same bullet... and are expected to be okay. investigators are now working with our victims and witnesses to determine what exactly did happen. so we're really in the very early stages here. and we're just trying to make sure that we've got all the evidence we need to get, we get all the witnesses and victims accounted for. brody is charged with aggravated domestic and felon in possession of a firearm. johnson is also charged with aggravated domestic and carrying a weapon. crews will soon resume their search for a missing boater on the mississippi river... the search began saturday night... when a 50 year old man fell off a boat into the river. it happened near the town of buffalo... southwest of davenport.

officials say others were on the boat... but no one saw him fall in. today crews will continue to search on the surface on the water... but they will also use sonar technology to cover the river floor. des moines leaders are getting city parks ready for the temperatures to drop... the "parks and recreation department" took action during this weekend's warmer weather. crews want to make sure everything is done at the city's 70 parks before the first frost. officials say damage to the water pipes could mean thousands of dollars in repairs... the process usually takes about two weeks... but they say it will go a little faster this year... "well, we are making sure that all the water is turned off. we are closing down restrooms. we are cleaning out the irrigation line, so nothing freezes and damages the pipe. we are also wrapping tree so the deer don't damage them.," they expect to be done early

going to on of the cities parks try to pack water because everything will be shut off. presidential candidates will now be greeted with a message when they arrive in the metro... that's "clean energy equals healthy kids." the message is plastered on a new billboard by the des moines international airport. it's located at the intersection of fleur drive and mckinley avenue. "climate parents" came up with the idea... to urge candidates to support renewable energy policies. the group will unveil the billboard today at noon. it will be followed by a press conference. many of the republican presidential hopefuls will see that billboard this saturday... ten of them are scheduled to be in des moines for the "growth and opportunity" party. the event takes place at the iowa state fairgrounds. tickets are still available... for ten dollars each. as of right now... two big names are not taking part. the two frontrunners in iowa... doctor ben carson and donald trump... have yet to confirm. iowans got the chance to meet each of the democratic

presidential candidates... the "jefferson jackson dinner" brought hillary clinton, bernie sanders, and martin o'malley to des moines. the annual event also helped some voters decide who they'll caucus come february. but one iowa state student is still undecided.... she says she wants to find someone who is serious about latino issues... i think being able to see who has the genuine care for the latino population across the country. they are being more aware that our vote counts, and so they really need to provide stances - not just promises the candidates will again share the stage for a debate next month. it's scheduled for november 14th... at drake university. the jefferson jackson dinner didn't just bring presidential candidates to the metro... it brought pop stars...

katy perry showed her support for hillary clinton with a concert... and some bling. she took over clinton's instagram account while in des moines... and posted this photo. it shows a gold "potus" necklace. police say the vehicle was stolen... no word on any arrests in the case. one person is dead after a crash in davenport... caused by a street race... it happened around four thirty yesterday afternoon... along kimberly road. police say two vehicles were drag racing... when one of them clipped a van pulling onto the street. the van's driver died. charges against the other two drivers are pending at this time. the woman accused of driving into a crowd at oklahoma state university is facing charges... 25 year old adacia chambers is charged with four counts of second degree murder. police say she drove into a car at the university's homecoming parade on saturday. four people... three adults and a two year old child. dozens more were hurt... and four are in critical condition. a memorial for the victims has sprung up at the site of the incident.

locals say the community is rallying around the affected families. just pray for them. i mean, i feel like that's all we can do at this point and just try to remain strong and just kind of anything...if we've got to do a fundraiser, anything to just kind of help the families and just pray for them through church we can do that police say chambers was driving under the influence... but her attorney says she is suffering from a mental illness. if convicted... chambers could face life in prison. a rescue effort is underway off the coast of canada... authorities say a whale watching boat sank near vancouver island yesterday. they say 27 people were on board when it went down. five people were killed... and 21 have been rescued. one person is still missing. the transportation safety board of canada is investigation. torrential rainfall is smashing records in texas... up to 20 inches of rain fell in parts of the state over the weekend.

forecasters predict more is on the way... and it will be wide spread. in houston... flash flooding closed several exits to the downtown. officials also reported at least 50 high water locations in the city. galveston residents are dealing with up to a foot of rain in the forecast. and they're busy preparing for the rising water... we're just moving furniture around the everything. we've heard there's never been water inside any of the garage or any of these rooms except for hurricane ike. so , ha ha ha. meanwhile... mexico is cleaning up after hurricane patricia made landfall on friday. it was the most powerful storm ever recorded in the western hemisphere. the cold weather is fast approaching... and des moines leaders are almost ready... the des moines "parks and reacreation department" started its "winterizing" process over the weekend. crews are shutting off water... flushing out irrigation

lines... and wrapping trees at the city's 70 parks. the process usually takes two weeks... but officials say it will go faster this year due to warm weather. there are some things to keep in mind if you plan on visiting a park soon... she joined the democratic presidential candidate at a rally before the "jefferson jackson dinner." and nearby... were sharks! this man showed up in a shark costume... made famous by pop star's super bowl performance. he held a hillary clinton sign. there were other sharks holding bernie sanders signs. perry later attended the dinner as clinton's guest. des moines residents will get a lesson on the iowa caucuses... from an expert... legendary n-b-c anchor tom brokaw will speak to hundreds of community leaders in january. it's for the "greater des moines partnership's 127th annual dinner." brokaw has covered every presidential election since ronald reagan won back in 19-84. organizers say his visit verifies iowa's important role in picking the next president... he's arguably the most well-known, most highly-respected journalist of our time. this is a dinner that will attract about 1,200 central iowa business and community leaders. and what a great time to focus on the iowa caucuses, just one week

before the caucuses. the event will take place january 25th at the "des moines convention center." when we think about halloween... we think black and orange. but there is another color becoming popular for the holiday... residents in park view spent the weekend painting their pumpkins &teal. it's all for the "teal pumpkin project." the project encourages people to place a teal pumpkin outside their front door. it allows kids who have food allergies to know the house is passing out allergy - friendly treats... this helps raise awareness. it's family friendly, and kid friendly, so it gets people out here to talk to them about food allergies and that's its a whole lot more than not being able to eat something, its a whole lifestyle change.

the president, coach, and part owner of the n-b-a's minnesota timberwolves has died. phillip saunders... also known as "flip"... died of cancer. he took a leave of absence earlier this year to get treated for hodgkins lymphoma. saunders complised a 654 - 592 record as an n-b-a coach. he took the timberwolves to eight straight playoff appearances from 1997 to 2004. he then went on to coach the pistons and wizards... before returning to the timberwolves in 20-13. saunders was 60 years old. iowa state suffered another loss over the weekend against baylor... the cyclones got off to a bad start... falling behind 35 - zip in the first half. sam richardson struggled at quarterback... completing just 3
