first on thirteen... des moines police say two people were hit by vehicles overnight... brookethe incidents happened within a few minutes... but are not connected... the first happened just before midnight... at the intersection of southwest 9th and maxwelton drive. police say one person was hit... and the vehicle took off. no word on the condition of the victim. then about 15 minutes later... officers were called to the 54 hundred block of aurora avenue. that's near the "village at westchester" apartment complex. according to scanner traffic... officers found a woman underneath a vehicle. medics responded to the scene... but it's unclear if the victim was taken to the hospital. we'll bring you more information as it becomes available. urbandale police are asking for your help finding two suspected thieves...

police say these men are connected to an october 10th theft from the hy- vee at 86th and douglas. both were spotted leaving the store with carts full of toilet paper and kitchen appliances. the items were valued at more than 12 hundred dollars. police believe the men took off in this dark colored s-u-v. if you have any information... call polk county crime stoppers at the number on your screen. some east high school students witnessed a scary situation... i heard 2 gunshots and heard people running from the church and seen cars running away from the church and then the cops coming the school was placed on lock down as gun shots rang out across the street yesterday. witnesses told police they came from "saint paul lutheran church" on east 12th and walker. officers have found a vehicle matching the description of the one seen leaving the church. investigators are

several people... but so far... no charges are filed. waukee police are now patrolling the streets... equipped with body cameras. 18 cameras are capturing the face to face interactions of the city's officers. the officers are then responsible for uploading all of the video to a server. if the video is tagged, it's saved for 180 days... if not, it's erased after 60 days. the footage can be used in court... or when an officer's actions are called into question. our department, our officers they're excited about them. it holds them accountable, it should let the city know that everything they say is being recorded so that should put the public at ease that things are being recorded. the cameras were paid for with a 14 thousand dollar donation from "kenworth mid iowa." west des moines residents have a new place to enjoy a cold brew. a ribbon cutting this afternoon will celebrate the opening of

"fox brewery." it's just west of historic valley junction... along south 11th street. the brewery is known for using local ingredients many of its beers. the ribbon cutting takes place at 4-30 p-m. the downtown farmers market is wrapping up for the season... and its going out in style. channel 13's josh nguyen is live from court avenue with details. good morning, josh! the downtown farmers' market has on average 25,000 visitors each week. there were no rain cancellations this year. this saturday will be a big blow out festival. the winter market runs one weekend in november and december.

student to stay quiet about allegations of sexual abuse. it happened when he was a coach and teacher in illinois. hastert is accused of lying to the f-b-i about plans to pay the ex student millions in hush money. sentencing is set for february 29th. the illinois republican served as speaker of the house from 19-99 to 2007. today leaders will vote to approve paul ryan as house speaker... the wisconsin congressman was nominated by his fellow republicans yesterday. the full house of representatives will now vote on whether to make it official. ryan needs 218 votes. ryan says his party has lost its vision... and he intends to make some changes... we have an obligation here in the people's house to do the people's business to give this country a better way forward, to give this country an alternative. we are going to respect the people by representing the

people if ryan is approved as speaker of the house... he will be the youngest person to hold the position since before the civil war. the republican presidential candidates took the stage for their third debate.... hosted by c-n-b-c. and as andrew spencer reports... much of it focused on economic issues. the republican front-runner, ben carson, stayed low-key, wednesday night. when c-n-b-c moderator becky quick challenged carson on his plan for a flat tax rate, he argued it would work with spending cuts and economic stimulus. presidential candidate "we have 645 federal agencies and sub-agencies. anybody who tells me that we need every penny in every one of those is in a fantasy world." "you would have to cut government by about 40-percent to make it work with a 1.1-trillion-dollar hole." presidential candidate "it's not true." "des moines water works" approved a ten percent across - the - board rate increase. it affects all customers in polk county. but it's also expected to drive up rates in neighboring suburbs... who buy most of their water supply from the company. the c-e-o says this jump in rates is something that's happening across the country... weve had to do de-nitrify more than ever in the history of this utility so we are seeing a background that isnt good so we are going to continue to meet and exceed the public health requires to deliver a safe drinking water product the increase will go into effect

14 thousand dollar donation from "kenworth mid iowa." 30 years after jumping into the video game market... nintendo is going mobile. today the company announced its first ever mobile game. it's called "miitomo" .it's described as a social networking game... that uses avatars introduced with the "wii console" in 2006. nintendo promises "friendly conversation starters" in a secure environment. the game is coming to smart phones and tablets in march of next year. the first snow flakes of the season have started falling in the midwest... several inches of snow fell across northern minnesota yesterday... and unlike the snow in the southern part of the state... it's sticking around. northwestern wisconsin also got their first taste of winter weather. dropping temperatures switched
