deadly crash on a des moines street. it left a des moines mother dead... and created a mess of metal and sparking power lines. the crash happened yesterday morning on 35-th street... the car hit a utility poll and spun into a tree. 22-year old scalicity perez... also known as scalicty boyd was killed. the driver, troy mure, survived and is now recovering.

police are now looking into whether he was speeding or impaired... but his mother says it happened because another vehicle was chasing him. "they waved a gun. he stepped on the gas to get awy faom them. and they hit the back of the car and made him lose control of the car." his mother says the reason for that chase goes back to an unsolved nightclub murder. earlier this month a man was shot and killed outside evolution nightclub. mure told his mother people are accusing him of being involved in the murder. the polk county sheriff's department hasn't said whether mure is in fact considered a suspect in that murder. once out of the hospital a des moines man will face two counts of murder... 47-year-old barney fraaken is accused of shooting his wife, amy and daughter, amber this weekend. police say fraaken then attempted to take his own life, but survived. police think the murders stemmed

from a domestic dispute. neighbors struggle to understand it all. they're innocent, why would you do something to them. like you say, if they have a problem, deal with it yourself or get help. not take it out on someone else fraaken is in police custody at the hospital as he recovers... police expect he will be charged with two counts of first degree murder. a johnston bus driver charged with assaulting a student has resigned. video of robert scarbrough surfaced last month. it shows him pushing a 15-year-old boy while on the bus. scarbrough is charged with assault and child endangerment. he's been on administrative leave since the incident.. district leaders approved scarbrough's resignation at last night's school board meeting. waukee drivers will soon have a quicker morning commute. a new interchange is going in just west of the jordan creek parkway interchange. it's set to open next week. here's a look at the work there. it will connect grand prairie parkway from university avenue

pollard says saturday's heart- breaking loss to kansas state was not the sole reason he fired rhoads. rhoads will still be allowed to coach his final cyclone game this saturday at west virginia. this marks the 3rd time in a decade that the cyclones are looking for a new football coach. iowa state fans need look no farther than hilton coliseum for relief. the cyclone men's basketball team is now ranked fourth in the country...that's their highest ranking since 1996. they haven't been ranked higher than that since 1957! another sold out crowd as iowa state hosts a chattanooga team that has already taken down both illinois and georgia. the cyclones come on strong. good, unselfish basketball all night. inside out to georges niang. cyclones up 5. then to naz mitrou-long for three. got it! naz nets 24

dowling catholic rules class 4-a football...again. they plowed over cedar rapids kennedy 41-10 last night. that makes three state titles in a row.... which has never happened before in class 4-a. cedar rapids kennedy came in with a perfect season... but not as perfect as dowling's. the maroons haven't lost a game in three years. a tough decision is headed for the oval office this morning. french president francois hollande will visit the white house.. to ask for help battling terrorists. his visit comes less than two weeks after isis militants attacked paris, killing 130 people and leaving hundreds more injured. hollande is expected to ask president obama for more u.s. special forces to help battle isis in syria. president obama previously said that he would not change his strategy in syria. but, he is expected to ask france to get better passenger lists from europe on flights coming to the u.s.

hollande heads to moscow next to see vladimir putin. the u-s state department is warning american travelers headed abroad... an updated travel alert was issued because of increased terrorist threats overseas. the alert says groups like isis, al- qaeda, and boko haram are planning attacks in multiple regions. the state department says us- citizens should avoid large crowds or crowded places... like public transportation. the travel alert is in effect through february 24th. police are looking for three people who opened fire near a minneapolis rally last night... the rally was protesting the deadly police shooting of jamar clark earlier this month. officials say five people were shot... they are all expected to be okay. no arrests have been made. the shooters are described only as white men. there's no place like home, but an iconic dress has a new
