roads in northern iowa partially to mostly snow covered due to all the snow that feel in that part of the state tonight. rain and snow is winding down and lifting north for now. there still may be a few remaining rain and snow showers through the evening. weather conditions are improving... but road
north and west. are experiencing across the state... in the metro, roads are wet. but look to the northwest corner of the state conditions deteriorate... roads around spencer, emmetsburg, and west bend are fort dodge, cherokee and sioux city are not much better and are partially covered. we are following a developing side... home... police were called to 39-18 center street... just before three this afternoon... mike dasilva has been at the home ever since... he joins us live with the latest on this case...
roll to vo: when we arrived on scene earlier two people are dead following a reported shooting in des moines. police responded to a home in the 3900 block of center street shortly before 3 p.m. monday to investigate a possible shooting. upon arrival, officers found two deceased adults inside the home. officials said that two children have been removed from the home for their safety. neither had apparent injuries, according to police. des moines police detectives are investigating the incident as suspicious. they will not comment on the cause or manner of death at this time. 10:29-10:35 there were two children in the home but they are going to be fine. they are being taken up to the hospital to be check out but the
obvious injuries on them. des moines police are also investigating a weekend shooting downtown that took one life and sent another to the hospital... it's raised concerns on how safety downtown should be handled... justin surrency has more on this deadly shooting... police have yet to make an arrest in the city's 17th homicide this year but they say nearly a dozen witnesses are helping them crack the case...while this type of violence is rare on court avenue...city leaders say it will be addressed but they'll need help from everyone involved on the downtown safety effort... "i would like to see us be as aggressive as possible, the

'he was selfless he was always about family and friends if you needed anything at all he was there for you" the police department spreads the use of private funds throughout the year to staff off-duty officers during some of downtowns busy weekends during the summer, st patricks day and new year's eve but none were assigned the night perez
des moines police are also investigating an overnight shooting. officers were called to the 29 hundred block of cottage grove avenue, near the drake neighborhood. they found 41 year old charles shur with gunshot wounds to the leg and chest. shur told police two men followed him home from a store and tried to rob him. shur is expected to be okay. no suspects have been named in the case. fort dodge police are looking into a suspicious fire, after one of it's own cars was set on fire. the mobile speed camera car was found on fire saturday night
machine on highway 20. investigators are asking anyone who may have seen someone near the car saturday night to call police. a second mobile speed camera is still in service. a family is safe ... but no longer has a place to live after a house fire this morning in grinnell. one of the homeowners got himself, his son, as well as one dog out safely. two dogs did not make it out. most of the fire was contained to the basement... the red cross is helping the family recover from the fire. a public hearing starts in just in the west des moines school district. school leaders could trim up to 850-thousand dollars of next school year's 150-million dollar budget. proposals include eliminating japanese and phasing out german. eliminating three-year old general education pre-school. the public input session starts at 6- 30 inside the learning resource center on mills civic parkway.. another meeting will be held

governor branstad says there is no reason to delay the state's plan to privatize medicaid management... even with one potential provider under scrutiny... the switch is set to take place on january first... and governor branstad says that's still on track, despite concerns from iowans. four companies were selected to manage the program.. but wellcare could be dropped from the mix. an administrative law judge says the company didn't disclose it's past legal troubles when it placed it's bid. this morning governor branstad says the state will still move forward even if wellcare is dropped. 45:26-45:56 the original recommendation we would choose from two to four and so we still have three but the final decision will have to be made by janet phipps and we have every confidence that she we carefully review and make a final decision. governor branstad says he's not sure when phipps will make the decision on wellcare's contract. the evening commute for waukee

just in to the newsroom... waukee police are searching for a missing 10-year old. police say the child was last seen at eason elementary school this afternoon. the ten year old boy is of indian nationality... 4-foot-5-inches tall.. and weighs about 80-pounds. he was last seen wearing a navy winter coat with neon green sleeves, a black ski mask, and mittens. the child also had on a brown hooded zip-up sweatshirt with orange lettering and track pants. anyone with information is asked to call the waukee police

well, that didn't take long. iowa state has a new head football coach. and he's already on the job. isu introduced former toledo coach, matt campbell. campbell just turned 36, and becomes the big 12's youngest head coach. a confident, energized, campell won over administrators, players, and fans in one whirlwind weekend. campbell says this is the job he wanted,
needed an experienced head coach. campbell never won the overall mac, but did claim two co-division championships. he also coached the rockets to two bowl wins, not to mention a win over iowa state this season. kirk ferentz started the season on the hot seat, and he'll end as big ten coach of the year. the big ten network names ferentz in what had to be an easy vote. and the big ten honors parker hesse as freshman of the week. hesse made the play of the game at nebraska, breaking an early tie, and sending iowa to its unprecedented 12th win.
