ticket... the surprise for the passenger..... police are searching for a man who may have information on des moines' latest double homicide. the man and woman were found dead inside this home on center street yesterday afternoon. good evening, i'm sonya heitshusen and i'm dan winters... police say a man who lived in that home with the two victims may have some answers about the killings. authorities are also searching for a slater woman... channel 13's justin surrency has the latest details... des moines police say michael wanchanic, a resident of the same home that two people were found dead in yesterday...is a person of interest...the investigation to solve the killings has even spread to a trailer home in slater... solving des moines latest homicides could hinge on one man... "we believe he has information
motive and what happened in the house so we would like any assistance in finding him." 39 year old michael john wanchenic is believed to be a roommate of both 36 year old bryon howard and 31 year old heather belieau who were found dead monday afternoon inside a home at the 39- hundred block of center street. he may be driving a 2002 beige dodge grand caravan with the license plate of d- m-r 2-3-4 "he was a resident there also, no relation to them but obviously he knew them."also at the scene two small children... "the 2 year old was moving around when we got there , the infant was crying but none were harmed... at the des moines police department's request, the story county sheriff's office performed a wellfare check at the trailer home of peggy reed, wanchanic's ex wife in slater. she was not found and they are concerned over her whereabouts." "the thing that is unique this year is that we have had several multiple homicides that obviously will raise that number quickly." the story county sheriff's department said they'll keep checking the trailer home in slater for peggy reed's arrival...i spoke to michael wanchenic's mother roseanne who says she has not spoken to her son in over two years...she also says the day of the killings was the anniversary of his father's death just one year ago... des moines police say they're closer to finding those responsible for a deadly shooting along court avenue sunday morning. 21 year old edmanuel perez was killed. 23-year-old andrew boyd remains hospitalized.. police say they're talking to several people who witnessed the shooting and reviewing video of the incident. and polk county deputies continue looking for the person responsible for a shooting outside the evolution nightclub last month.
three others were wounded. investigators say hundreds of witnesses saw the crime but few are coming forward with information. the university of iowa is investigating hate crime, after a racist message was found on campus... the university won't tell us what was said...but it was found carved on the inside of a bathroom door in spence laboratories. university police tell me as soon as they were notified by that staff member they sent maintence to sand off the comment as well as officers to investigate. it was not long before students were notified by iowa president - bruce harreld uzair ahmed/ student "i think with what the president is doing, his reaction was very appropriate, i think it shows he does not stand for this type of negativity around campus and i think it shows this is not what the school is about this is not what the school represents. the university police are asking anyone with information on the message to give them a call... u-s senator joni ernst announced today that she has retired from the iowa army national guard. she served as a lieutenant
