and a victory in the flood fight iowa soldiers are waging in missouri... see their progress.. and when iowa will see some wet weather of its own. one person killed... another injured... after eight days of investigation... police have identified a man who may know what happened. good evening, and thank you for being with us. i'm dan winters... and i'm sonya heitshusen... we begin with the search for alf freddie clark... just a few hours ago... police issued a material witness warrant for his arrest... police think the 60-year old may have information about this shooting... 36-year old tacono conner was shot and killed on december 27th. it happened in the hallway of this apartment building on south union. 37-year old amy stolki was also shot. she is expected to survive. officers are actively searching for clark... but are not calling him a suspect. a boone man nearly got away with

leigh lepon shot and killed 20-13. during the first three months of the investigation... police considered it an accident... in february of 2014 new evidence led to murder charges... and today lepon learned how long he'll spend in towne was in the courtroom when the victim's killer. mom 14:58:57 my name is linda smith and i had a son named devlin a son she buried two christmases ago.. yet, the pain of losing him hasn't lessened with time. mom 15:01:28 i feel as though someone has torn the heart and soul out of me. i can only imagine the devastation that the children must feel. the father of three... 38 year old devlin lockman...died from a single gun shot to the head at his ames home in 20- 13. his friend, leigh lepon, was charged with pulling the trigger and a story county jury found him guilty of second degree murder. today, lockman's oldest son, his namesake, faced his father's killer. devlin 14:57:18 he was probably my

lepon has 30 days to file an appeal. his attorney declined to comment after sentencing. under iowa law, lepon must serve a minimum of 35 years of his 50 year prison sentence before being eligible for parole. the convicted killer in another murder case refused to address the family of his victims in polk county court today. ngor makuey broke into a des moines home in july of 20-14. he attacked 97-year old rupert anderson with a grilling spatula... killing him. his wife... 95- year old harriet anderson was also injured. she died in march of last year. makuey was sentenced to life in prison. president obama wants to make gun control his major focus during his final year in office. today he met with attorney general loretta lynch... the two are trying to come up with ways to restrict gun sales that don't need congressional approval. what i asked my team to do is to see what more we can do to strengthen our enforcement and prevent guns from falling into the wrong

make sure that criminals, people those who could pose a danger to themselves or others are less likely to get a gun the president's expected focus on private gun sales. the president wants to close a loophole in federal law that without a background check. in the past president obama has proposed a ban on assault-style weapons... and limits on how many bullets a magazine can hold. both of those measures would likely need congressional approval. the president's expected actions iowa... and not the way the president wants... this month alone there are at least six gun shows scheduled in iowa.... with three taking place in the metro. all of them are expected to draw large crowds because of the potential change in gun laws. filling up. steven anderson.... a former des moines police officer and current owner of training specialists in

that standoff there? kasich: i haven't heard about it. q: where the people took over federal land. you haven't heard about that? kasich: no i haven't heard about this. when did this come out? i'm not familiar with it. the standoff has also caught the attention of other presidential candidates... texas senator ted cruz addressed it today... the incident started saturday night when a group of armed protestors took over a federal building at a wildlife refuge. the building was empty when the protestors took control. the protest is in response to a five- year prison sentence for a pair of ranchers. the two were convicted of arson for setting a fire as a defensive measure to prevent another fire from destroying their property. they were charged because their actions put firefighters' lives at risk. senator ted cruz was asked about the standoff today in boone. 'every one of us has a constitutional right, to protest to speak our minds, we dont have a constitutional right to use force and violence and threaten force and violence on others, it is our hope the protesters will

confrontation our prayers are certainly with those in law enforcement.. cruz visit is the start of a 5-day swing through iowa... king's christian bookstore in boone learned of the senators planned event last week... but because of the store's small location.. weren't convinced it would happen.
